You need to do enough tip missions to become a villain, be level 40 or higher, and start one of the patron arcs. You have to do the first set of missions. It will give you a badge and a free respec.

start heroside -> run tips between lvl 20-40+ and become a full villain. complete the first arc of your chosen patron.
OR
start yellowside -> become a villain at lvl 20. complete the first arc of your chosen patron at lvl 40+.
either way should unlock all 4 patron pools.
50: Ill/Kin(A+,R,J)-1047 badges RE/Dark(A) Fire/Elec Warshade BS/Regen Necro/Poison Ice/Fiery(A+) Son/Son Bane(A) FM/DA(A) DM/Nin Grav/Icy
lvling: Inv/EM DM/Sheild Arch/MM Bane NW Elec/Earth Grav/Elec Elec/FA Rad/Ice

You sure about that?
I thought it was treated the same as a trial respec.
You know the kind you have to earn.
I had to go to the Arbiter in nerva to use mine. Just typing /respec in the chat window wouldn't work...

What steps do I need to take to be able to choose from the villan Patron Powers if I am building a defender?
