More Base Options

I've been thinking, it has been a while since the base editor has been updated. We could really use some new features.

For starters BRING BACK BASE RAIDS+ITEMS OF POWER

New Ideas:

1- NPC's - Would be cool to have NPC's in the base, such as Roaming guards, Black market agent, Enhancment vendors, Tailor, or even a Managment agent to pay upkeep charges to.. etc

2- Doors - Lets face it, the "hallways" are nice and all, but nothing beats a good ol' door on your rooms.

3- More storage unit choices - Things like lockers, chests, foot lockers, crates, etc

4- REAL WATER - Ok the slow field does work, but it would be nice to have actual water features like ponds, waterfalls, fountains.. etc

5- customizable entrance - Would be a real bonus to personalize your entrance, change the portal color, or maybe add a platform, who knows..

6- Enviroment effects - Lets spice things up.. add some fog, or maybe some fire, sparks. liven things up a bit

7- In base message board - Leave notes and notices for your Group.. Upcoming events or changes.

these are just a few things off the top of my head.

Before the trolls show up...

You'll find a much warmer reception here.

Honestly, bases have been in serious need of major love, but the devs have had them pretty low on the priority list for a long time, mostly because it's easier to sell the game on original things like the costume creator, AE, and all the new GR/incarnate content. I feel your pain, but it's been a long wait so far and there's no visible light at the end of the tunnel.

Then again, Duke Nukem Forever is coming out soon.

Hey Cap !! Great ideas. Sailor is right though, and you will find alot more people who

are enthusiastic about bases and base improvements in the base building forums. There

are alot of posts with the suggestions that you mentioned there. However, I am glad

you posted in the suggestions forum. It shows me that there are more people outside

the base building community that are ready to see improvements in the base system.

As for the OP:

I wouldn't hold my breath as far as bringing back base raids or IoPs. Base raids pretty much require a decent population with an interest in PVP, and PVP itself being *fixed.* The former hasn't ever been big in this game, unfortunately, and much *less* interest seems to be here now. The latter... well, I think it's somewhere on the Devs list below "Scrub toilets with tongue."

As for the rest? Quite a bit that's been asked for repeatedly. As well as just a flat-out new editor with things like "holding areas," shared walls (I really *don't* need a hallway between two rooms, thanks) and the like.

I've gotten rather pessimistic about ever seeing improvements to bases/the editor, but that doesn't mean I don't *want* to, or that it isn't needed. Maybe if it can be tied into the endgame fetish the devs are under at the moment...

Many roaming NPC's currently run on predefined paths, which would be tough to implement in bases where we can place anything anywhere and where desks may be used as floors, lights as stairs, and bookcases may create artifical walls everywhere.

You *might* be able to add very limited-movement NPC's... or (much tougher to implement) let you draw a path to be walked, but that'd be a huge development effort. Free-standing NPC's (NPC's manning a computer terminal, for example) would be much simpler.

Agreed. Unfortunately, bases were generated with the "large hall" structure specifically to reduce the risk of unfair choke points in base raids. Granted, now that they reduced the object-placement restrictions, that's less important. The genie's already out of the bottle.

Yep... though I dread editing my botanical gardens.

Not bad ideas overall.

How about:

1. More options for Art work-- allow some of the nice landscapes etc. from Praetorian buildings to be in bases. The number and style of the base wall decorations is a bit limited.

2. Take off the storage limits on the smaller bases. Let people stack up as much storage as they like up to the room's limitations. The same goes for energy and control. Let people cram as much as they want into spaces if they have the room.

3. Recipe files--store unused recipes in the files. (Sometimes I don't have enough cash to make up a recipe, I don't want to carry it around, and I don't want it cluttering up my Wentworths account until I can actually afford to make it... also sometimes I can't use that recipe, and I want to store it for another character who can use it).

4. There needs to be more useful items you can make with the workshop work benches. Like temporary powers: grenades, healing kits, inspirations, etc.

5. The bases are somewhat restricted architecturally: Give them more vertical space. Let bases have several levels, give us the tools to make galleries, arcades, balconies, stairwells, etc. Give each size of base a certain number of blocks, allow the designer to place those blocks in a number of configurations: squaty rectangular, long and thin, tall retangular, L shaped, etc.

6. Allow us to put decor & defense in hallways.

7. Give us the tools to put doorways at the end of halls so you can enter a room through a door.

8. Allow us to up-grade base healing pods to heal 100% just like a hospital.

9. Allow us to make big rooms with multiple zones: Medical, Workshop, Control, Energy. Give us the tools to divide up big rooms with walls and platforms. That would also posit the need for more stair and ramp options.

Ok, if the devs are more interested in AE and end game content here are a few sudgestions that will hopefully bring bases into the picture.

1: AE access in the base - Allow Leaders and other "allowed" ranks to create custom AE type raids and trials for the SG. Instead of the usual tickets special SG points could be awarded. They could be used to puchase special SG trophies, scematics, buffs, or even items of power.

2: Sparing rooms - Allow the construction of a training type room where players can test out the latest builds one on one.. Or even against target dummies

3: Give Recipe storage usnits so SG members could store and share their collection of purple recipes collected from strike forces.

4: Teleporters to the various PVP zones so SG's can plan group raids into these zones

Come on.. You can't have an element of the game that brings so many so much joy and just abandon it..

Oh, don't worry. The bleak reality that bases have actually been abandoned will soon send you into the numb, mildly depressed feeling that the rest of us share.

Since their introduction in Issue 6 (Back in 2005!), only once has there been a change to bases. And that change was made entirely due to the PvP changes in Issue 13.

Outside of those two events the only acknowledgement that the game even has bases has been to grant a prestige bonus, which they've done all of twice in six years.

There was a brief ray of hope when there was a redname (I think Synapse?) who was actually assigned to work on bases, but it turned out that whatever he did actually made the interface worse. And so because it's hard Synapse no longer has that as part of his job and nobody else wants it.

Oh, I don't know, they've added base item vet rewards and... um... new badges to get teleporters in some new zones... Oh, and the cost reduction...

... yeah.

Don't forget the shiny new beaker rack. That was cool, and everyone has been wanting that for years. I'm glad the devs listened to us on that one, I was ready to quit.

Yes, anything. Please do something with bases.
