    2. Tiered difficulty in that some are for nOObs and some are for 1337 players. (never works out as experienced PvPers love the challenge of making the meanest possible character in the weakest possible tier)
    3. Fast start (you enter the game and fighting starts immediately or very swiftly)
    4. Short/fixed duration with an actual end point and a clear winner/loser
    5. Game creates teams of equal size on both sides so you are not thrown to the sharks all by yourself (though premades tend to obliterate pugs when they end up against each other in those games that make it possible).

CoH PvP has none of these advantages. I've tried to PvP, but I actually can't figure out how the Arena works (this is very bad from an encouraging people to try standpoint), and most of the time in the zones you run around doing PvE looking for anyone else. When you find them, they often aren't interested in PvP and are just there for the badges, or Shivans, or Nukes, etc. to be used in PvE elsewhere.

    What CoH has:
    1. Hard to understand, & totally different rules from PvE
    2. Tiered in the sense of having level breaks, but uber-sets give dedicated PvPers far more power than experimenters
    3. No "start" just wander in, wander around and hope you find someone else who may or may not exist in the zone
    4. No "end point" you just go until you are done. No "winner" no "loser" except for a specific round/bout.
    5. Teams happily hunt down and gank loners. No balance or assisted team making.

Runescape has its castle war, with a very cool mechanic with "law vs chaos" as the two sides, and people can sign up as "balance" who will be used to ensure both sides have equal numbers and thus ensure the game starts faster. Virtually every MMO with PvP has a variation of "capture the flag", Conan has city sieges, Lineage had castle sieges, WoW has the different battlegrounds plus it's Arena which works quite well for idiots etc. PvP minigames are the standard, and they work for a lot of different MMOs.

In my opinion, the least work to make this happen would seem to be taking Recluse's Victory out of the world as a free-for-all zone and make it into a minigame only accessible during PvP matches. Copy the signup scenarios from other MMOs and from the CoH Arena. Click interested and go back to playing. When enough people on both sides are up for a match, boom it starts and you teleport onto the map. Fist side to spawn and drop Statesman/Recluse wins, everyone on the winning side gets merits and is returned to the portals in Peregrine or Grandville, or the arena of "choice" (including Monkey Bar in Pocket D). Choice marked off because villains don't have any =). Make it cross server. Once Going Rogue comes out let the "middle of the road" style characters who can access both Paragon and Rogue Isles sign up not for Good or Evil, but rather a mish-mash to ensure there are equal numbers on each side. Some form of balance ala the Runescape model. This will speed up the queues and ensure some randomness.

No amount of "carrot on a stick" will work with the current "show up in the zone and hope something happens" scenario. Even with broken PvP mechanics, people will play a fun game. With "perfect" mechanics not many people will do CoH PvP in the form it currently exists.

A lot of posters are looking at the bad side of our PvP and what the devs have done. That's ok but to be fair, there have been many ups to the changes applied in i13. For example:

    -removed Toggle drops when mezzed.
    -removal of break free dependence.
-dmg scaling with in ATs (a variety of corr, troller, defender, blaster and dom sets are viable now)
-lowered the disparity between range and melee with in smaller skirmishes.
    -removal of double phasing/hiber
    -removed perma caging.
    -phased can attack phased
-buffed hover adds a new dimension to PvP that other games don't have (albiet n00bish to a hardcore CoH pvper)
    -taunt's -range
    -dom dmg scaling and buffs
-squishie resistance armors now have res to all
    -squishie def armors have elusivity.
-and aside from all the downside of suppression, suppression does allow runners to get killed by a large team as they should (stalkers are a good example) but at the same time escape is still possible vs. smaller groups or bad groups.

Other than giving us more options in arena that we can turn on and off and certain tweeks to certain powers, PvP doesn't need a complete system overhaul anymore. What it needs is CONTENT!!!!

    -New PvP Zones!!
-PvP tokens or usable Rep (what am i supposed to do with 400 rep all the time?)
-A WoW like Battlegrounds type places that's cross server and offers PvE tokens or PvP tokens.
-New Arena Maps and server schedualed and announced tournements that offer PvP tickets/tokens to use toward PvP IOs.
-PvP objective based missions (mayhem missions had huge potential for this) for example sieging an area, capture VIP/item, capturing areas/territories, defeating AVs/Heros, etc.
-Base raiding that gives winners temp buffs/powers.
-536 badges that can only be gained in PvP (yeah im exagerating)

This games PvP has so much potential. so Plz devs we need more PvP CONTENT!!! and yes again some more PvP CONTENT!!!

    Sudden Death

hiber or phase invis and run far away at sudden death talk about the weather and baseball GG afterwards. And if you don't have phase or hiber ur prolly not a pvper and should stick to fight clubbing in zones.
  4. Your problem is probably not your build it's probably your PvE playstyle. In PvE you simply run in and attack till the mob or you face plant. But you know what? i play PvE the same way as i PvP so i never die in PvE because If im about to die i run away. wouldn't you do this in RL if someone shoots a shot gun in a bank? do you attack the robber with "Crippling axe kick?" hellzz no. you freakin' run dude and be out the door or get behind a counter before he can pump the next shell into the chamber.

So if i were you i'd only attack those attacking other players. If they attack you run, phase and run, webnade them and run, taunt them and run, if they talk smack run even further.

    Thanks!
its meh... maybe somewhat usefull vs melee who dont have tactics shiver and a couple cold debuffs will cap most anyones -recharge. but Earth grav ice and ill all have good percs with therm tho

yeah lets all do that and see what happens.
  7. make a WP or Ice tank get as many def and haste IOs and accolades cap ur def and HP make hoarfrost perma. Get tough and weave ok ur good to go GoD mode.
  8. seems like you already have a spines/regen keep working with that get weapons mastery and throw spine, impale, webnades, and ninja stars.
  9. this threat ******' sux!! >: (
  10. pure support is not the way to go on a grav/FF. Why even pick grav if your not going to use it right? if you like FF and want to only disrupt the other team go with illusion.
  11. tons of dmg procs around 2 slotted per attack.

    Aid self, and tough

    learn how to joust

alot of +regen and alot of S/L res

    PvP and Procs

This was in i11 but back then Gausan's was thought to be buggy as it would proc in powers like tactics or FA but unlike a normal BU that lasted 10 sec, it would last maybe 2 sec at most. Sometimes it would proc during a 2+ sec animation and your next attack would have normal +dmg to it. Last time i checked it, it would go off 1-3 times every 100 sec because every 10 seconds it has a 10% chance of going off. might be different now, but if its still like how it was when i tested it, it's not really worth the 5th or 6th slot. Might as well move that slot to another power.

i dont think its just marginal. it makes a big difference to good players. getting away from toggle debuffs from an earlier distance w/o having to pop on a toggle that stops you from healing ur team, placing more targts on the map for the other team to toggle through, confusing their disruption/buffing, and even going as far as placing a terror while you buff and heal at no animation cost to u is a big diff. I've only seen a few emps that can multi-task that well so your right kinda right. it makes only make a small difference to ur average player but back in i6-i9 there were a few emps that can pull of heal/buff/and disrution all at once. B4 the tk nerf mind was almost as good. If i were the OP i'd reroll into ill/ff fire/ff grav/ff or even earth/ff.
  17. I should be giving you some advanced advice but ur asking too many questions at once

The message here: whenever a company have a team meeting to define priorities is the walk power on the top of it?
There is not more bugs or things to fix, more urgent and important than this?

    /sarcasm over
Although i agree with divine's sentiment, the devs have to keep this game afloat. The walk emote can be used in videos and in other forms of marketing to make the hero in the video look 'so kool' cuz he's so buff and stuff. It Gives time for the audience and to really stare at the codpiece and his strut and therefore increasing revenew by new players even for a month. 97% of Exsisting RP players will use the emote a few times in Atlas so that noobs can glare at their codpiece. This inturn makes them feel GOOOOOOD. Instead of costume contests there'll be fashion shows. This inturn makes them feel GOOOOOOD. Feel GOOOOOD players pay for a longer time. (not being sarcastic here)

    Red side ranged

currently doms have the best ranged DPS on redside but a corr is a much more rounded toon. I'd go with corrs because it can handle more situations rather than being only second best AT at running down your target fast. spines/shark only works well on noobs btw.
  20. Regen like many things that help ur toon is limited to suppression. When you attack or get attacked, etc. your regen gets supressed. But end does not get the same treatment. As far as a claws/SR vs. DB/regen, the regen will win 8 out of 10 times. The only way to win on a consistant basis vs a regen when ur SR is using elude when u have 25-50% HP left. This gives you a psychological advantage because he will start to chase after you and if you have enough dmg you'll prolly win. A smart or experienced player will toy with you for a bit and really start attacking when elude crashes. SR isn't the greatest in the fight club sort of duels. It is better on a team though, so your better off using taunt, webnades, elude, focus, and phase to help your team in PvP.

Well even at that, there aren't a lot of tollers can disrupt high end builds, pump out dmg, and survive a 6 man spike. My troller is dedicated to doing just that and im already with u guys. So I'd ask for tanks, scrappers, and rads on hero side if your looking to round off the edges (cept for the rad, those 2 are quite easy to play moderately well). And like you said, With the "good" players gone, You're not gonna find those real disruption players anymore when players can just say "hey if i make a dmg toon, I can own on a team, look like the MVP, and still pwn bishes in duels"
  22. Ive been in this game's pvp even longer than mac and i believe longer than con
