How to get PVP drops?

Do I get them from defeating players, NPCs outside, or in missions?
I am a complete newb to PvP, and looking to try.

What happens is the same thing that happens now:

Those that have figured out how to afk farm for PvP drops get rich.

Be well, people of CoH.

You *can* get banned for just about anything. But they aren't banning those that are afk farming. I haven't personally started doing it yet, but have been planning to get around to it.

Which is the cornerstone of exactly why PvP sucks.

It ain't about how well a player does in PvP -> it's how good someone farms, which is totally 'GEE AY WHY'.

I get a PvP IO drop about once every week or two it seems.

I have two PvP IO recipes sitting on my blaster that I'm too lazy to leave RV to make as my blaster has 69 million just sitting there on that toon doing nothing.

I have two more PvP IO recipes sitting on my tank and a purple I haven't made either.

I don't use PvP IOs or purples myself...I sell em for the money.

I like my 5 slotted Crushing Imacts on melee, 4 thunderstrikes or 5 devastations on ranged, 5 Positron's Blast on Targetted AOEs, and 5 Manticore's on snipes, 5 trap of the hunters on immobs, and 5 lockdowns on holds. Sprinkle in some procs and hammios to round out the toon...and it's all good.

I think they should up the drop rate of PvP IOs by a huge amount. They may give good bonuses to feed the DR monster, but I think PvP IO drop rate is GEE AY WHY. PvP IOs are real expensive compared to the number of players in the game that actually do pvp. Flood the market and kill the price.

Why?

You get a FOTM that is all IO'ed out.
You get another player that has SOs.
Over the long haul, the FOTM will defeat the SO player more often, thus, the SO player will 'give up' more PvP IO drops to the FOTM.
Then the FOTM slots his PvP IOs, and starts to get more powerful than the SO player. Now, the SO player will cough up MORE PvP IOs.
In other words, the rich get richer, and the newer players get the shaft...not a real friendly way to increase the PvP population.
So the SO pvp'er has two choices: keep fighting behind the curve, or, start FARMING...oh boy, what fun...time to run the same mish over and over, just to get enough money to buy the PvP IOs to help them catch up.

My solution at the present time: the cheapest way for the SO player to compete is to get a buddy that can buff them. A buff from another player is still more powerful of a bonus than PvP IO sets can give.

My brain hurt just reading this post.

Welcome to the nature of pvp post-i12. It isn't about PvP, it's about farming people like the pinatas they are.

I tend to go to RV or warburg with a few friends and we just kinda stand in a circle wacking each other untill something drops.

Now, pinata's should talk less. Give me ur lootz.

Long post about nothing makes my head hurt.

It hasn't been about skill since i13 hit, it has been pretty much dUmbed down to straight up button mashing, slow, PvP on training wheels. Sure you can remove Travel Supression and Heal Decay in arena matches which is a huge plus but until the global resists can be removed or altered you have to leave DR on which will always make it crap.

Plus the mez changes which make setting up a damage spike, where the target can do literally nothing, ridiculously easy; removal of unresisted damage outside of the crit portion of AS, and removal of unresisted debuffs. Even if you somehow get an option to remove base resists and run matches with no TS/no HD/no DR/no base resists you'll still end up with a half-***** version that's neither I12 nor I13 PvP. On the plus side, it'd make Sonics useful again (assuming cages get un-****** at some point)...

Side note, I've gotten equal number of drops whether I was teamed or not in zone pvp. My best drop was when I was teamed.

Pushing the topic back on to a steady path...

I know that pvpIO's drop only from kills that yield a rep. And I heard that if you receive one, you will be on a 10 min timer until you are able for another one to drop.. which might be about 10 weeks but I dunno...

Anyway, since the drops are centered around kills that yield rep, does that mean you have to wait for the rep you received from killing a target to reset before a chance to get an IO?

ie - you killed said target, and if you killed said target with the message "you receive no rep from so-and-so for defeating them earlier", do you have to wait until that timer diminishes before getting an IO reward?
