All of my new concept alts with the exception of two, who are using non-revealing classic tights type costumes, or set pieces that can have tights used to cover all the bare skin, are male for just this reason.
I adore the male versions of the concept packs, but the female version... can't do it. I don't do the over-sexualized concepts. Not even just cleavage. I mean, c'mon, seriously. With all the jumping around and bounding superheroes do, there is nothing short of superglue and duct tape that's keeping the female bits and bobs inside some of what passes for costumes in this game and comics in general.
Common sense, there should be some. Many women love wearing the revealing stuff. I'm not one of 'em. (In another MMO, I'm the person that passes on a nice upgrade because I refuse to wear the plate bikini/garter style armor that it comes in for a female. Bah. I kid not. I'll roll all male alts before I ruin my idea of who my character is with stuff they wouldn't be caught dead in.)
If females are gonna get saddled with overtly sexualized versions, where are the corsets and hotpants for males versions?Eh?

Quote:I didn't know this at all. I don't even recall being given the option to get an Astral merit the 2 times I've run the SSA arc on my 50. Most likely, I didn't even realize what they were and probably took the hero merits. =/you do realize you can spend 5 astral merits to get a certificate that lets you unlock the Alpha slot and completely skip the Mender Remiel arc on other characters, right? And it might take a bit, but if you don't want to run trials, you can run the SSAs and get Astral merits.
If I ever run the SSA again, I'll be sure to look more closely, thanks. -
Quote:This is what worries me, to be honest. My scrapper is only partially IO'd out. I had left the game before I finished and now don't even remember where I was going with the build now and she feels a bit broken and taking more damage and missing more than I remember.I think that the AT issue is going to be the biggy. There's just so much variation that making something to challenge an IO'd Scrapper but that is also doable with an SO'd Defender. The general solution is to make things that challenge the player without increasing the numerical challenge but that is tricky to do without making it either gimmicky or trivial (the BM fight in Apex is a good example, the blue spots force you to move and think about positioning).
Honoree wiped the floor with her several times in the Ramiel arc until I just said Screw It and popped a bunch of purples and oranges and straight out dps'd him down. Even then, it was touch and go. And he was only EB level. =/
I'm not even bothering unlocking the Incarnate stuff with my other Heroes. They're only using generic IO's or SO's for the most part and if my scrapper had so many problems, there's likely no way my other alts can do it solo.
If the solo Incarnate stuff starts out at a much higher level difficulty than that, ie making us deal with AV level mobs, that's pretty much beyond my woefully lacking theorycrafting attempts. -
Quote:This, this, this.QFT. It's bad enough that we're limited to only two colors for many costume pieces (hats w/ hair comes to mind), so why limit us even further by having only one color selection?
I went to use the Witches hat from the Arcane set and realized... I can't even have the hair color I want if I want a two toned hat.WHY?
Does putting on said hat give me a magical hair dye job? Was the hat dye still wet?
I've actually started dreading making new alts for such reasons. It seems more and more pieces simply don't color properly to match anything else. By the time I've fiddled around for an hour or longer, I'm simply too beyond making the new alt and went back to play one of my existing ones. Half my alts have all their default slots unlocked, but are still in their default costumes on them.
Don't get me wrong, I adore the new sets and don't regret getting them in the least, but the limitations on customization vs. the old school tights and patterns options is disheartening. -
Gotta agree here. Especially when a MM (or MMs) has all the demon pets out and is crowded around an NPC for long periods. Makes AH'ing a real annoyance and sometimes even clicking on the NPC's period is an adventure.
And the caves... yeah, the caves. Nothing more need be said there. -
Wish there were more options time-card wise. None of the computer stores here where I live even carry the cards anymore and spending hundreds of dollars in gas to make the 4 hour round trip to the city to look for one is so not gonna happen.
Sell them at 7-11. They have cards for everything else. -
I have to agree with all of the above. My last visit to the store resulted in my having to alt-tab out to do research on the forums and 3rd party sites to confirm that the items I wanted to get were indeed included in the Costume Pack I was considering.
Why on earth can we not get an itemized listing of what's in a pack -before- purchase? I shouldn't have to hit the forum and try to find a player created thread listing it, nor should I have to use Paragonwiki or the like.
I've seen items on there that seemed interesting, but without knowing what's in them, I'm not going to purchase.
One good example is the Magic Bolero cap. My kiddo bought this single item and we know how expensive it is to buy this item by itself. I just cringed when I found out she could have gotten that cape inside a costume pack for half the price. Makes me wonder if the lack of clarity is more a deliberate marketing strategy and not an oversight or poor coding.
Really a poor show there, if that's the case. -
@CrazyNJ --
You are very welcome to your opinion of my statements, but they aren't made lightly. No offense was intended either. Coming as a player in the 'big game' and as someone who spends quite a lot of time on their forum helping new players and answering questions, I see faaar too many people coming for help because their account has been hacked and their game associated email accounts stolen because of a trojan/keylogger.
Many of those also report that their payment methods have also been compromised, including PayPal and the like.
Credit card fraud is rampant in the game because the hackers use the card numbers they've bought or stolen to pay for account services, which they in turn sell to people who turn a blind eye to it all. Because buying a level 85 fully kitted out with Epics is less work than actually playing the game and earning it.
When the unfortunate victim of the fraud finally realizes what's happening, their card is dinged, they may have their account locked or banned for fraud, and the person who bought the illegal services gets what they bought taken away literally, or their account is banned outright, or both.
The game has to eat the cost of the services that were fraudulently purchased, the person who got their card number stolen may have to pay, or have their credit cleared up, and the person who purchased the illegal services? They're out money as well, but they set in motion a chain of events that harms other parties in the long run.
(Remember the Sony hackings where secure info was lost? Yeah... quite a few people used their MMO game logins on the Sony server. Care to guess what happened to that info and what happened to their game accounts and characters?)
I've seen those that buy gold claim it's cool because it's a victimless crime. No one gets hurt, right? I think my bro-in-law would argue differently since his account was compromised, all his raid gear sharded and sold off, gold all gone. It was only observant people who noticed he was online when he shouldn't be that got it locked down preventing these jerks from cleaning out several hundred thousand worth of gold and items from our guild bank. He had to have his credit cards canceled and reissued because he had zero way of knowing if his CC number was safe anymore. Yep, victimless crime alright.
Gold farmers don't 'farm' much anymore. They rarely generate currency within the game because the time to do so isn't commiserate with the demand for the product. Buying lists of credit card numbers and stolen login/passwords is far more profitable and easy. There is just too much low hanging fruit sitting on accounts, both inactive and active. All it takes is trading the gold away to the customer and you're done. What happens to the account after that isn't their problem. There will always be more accounts to create or steal.
I'll leave it at that. Those claiming hyperbole and exaggeration likely are only seeing it from the perspective of someone who has never been affected in any way. -
And this is the attitude that keeps this illegal industry going. And it is illegal in all senses of the word, backed by organized crime rings. Scroll back and find that posted link that shows the horrible working conditions associated with this industry. It's indentured servitude at the worst.
They aren't just selling you influence you know. If they can get their hands on an account, via keylogging or phishing, with a lot of Inf on it, they'll gladly strip that account bare and sell that Inf to you. Keep that in mind. Someone elses account suffers so you can cheat your way to fast IO sets.
I doubt you'll feel it's not that bad if it were your account stripped clean and all your hard earned gains sold to the next guy that doesn't think it's a big deal. -
Have to say, gotta agree about the Rikti pieces. The way they glow in the dark is just awesome. (Also, not opposed to the idea of being able to play a Traditionalist/Restructurist Rikti as a hero class either, hint hint.
)
Ditto Nemesis. I tried making an Ex-Nemmie soldier in the costume maker. Couldn't really quite manage it. -
Quote:You do as another game has done and add a check box indicating that you're willing to lead and that person becomes leader when the group forms. (Lead can also be passed to another player later if desired.)So, what, exactly, do you think happens when a bunch of non-leaders form a team via the LFG queue? They start looking for a leader. Yeah, sure, they can end up deciding what to do by committee. How much longer is that going to take?
When two (or more) people who have ideas about running both end up in the queue together, who gets to be in charge?
I believe it's big practice versus theory gaps like that which are a big part of why so few people use the LFG queue as a truly random team/league formation tool. People form a league and then (maybe) let other people join it. Which greatly cuts down on how many people who might be in queue can actually be serviced by it, which is incentive to ignore the queue and just go broadcast for a team wherever people normally form them. -
Justice is getting hit pretty good by the Help channel spam at times, as is Virtue. I've even gotten a couple of emails on alts from RMT'ers, though that was a couple of weeks ago. Probably an account that was hi-jacked via a phish or trojan.
No tells yet, thank goodness. -
That pug pet being released actually made me run PuG heroics where nothing else short of being chained and bodily dragged into the instance screaming would have.
I'm a cat person, but just look at that face! What's not to love? Pugs for everyone!

After reading the entire thread, I do have to say this doesn't affect me in the least. If I run into an arc with enemies that are so rough I'd have to pre-buff to deal with them, that's when I'd exit the mission, drop the arc, and not look back.
That's just me though and I don't farm.
I have zero against people that use the AE for farming. On one hand, it seems these nerfs are a tad on the heavy handed side, but on the other, I can see that it's likely the easiest way for the devs.
All that aside, my issues with the system as it stands revolves around the lack of a robust search feature and the lack of any way to seriously filter out content you don't want to wade through. I adore the AE for an alternative way to level an alt when I reach those awkward levels when there's not much else but Newspaper missions.
Give us, those that like to run story arcs, the ability to 'turn off' missions that we don't want to run so that they don't appear in the listings anymore. Make them 'invisible' via a check box with an option somewhere to toggle them back into visibility again if we so desire. That could apply to farms, or to any arc that we've run across that's bugged/broken, or arcs that are too difficult, etc. Then no one is being singled out wholesale and players have the power to choose/decide.
Nerfing for the sake of stopping one group seems akin to putting one of those little circle bandages on a leaky dam because I just don't see farmers packing it in and disappearing. -
Quote:Slightly inaccurate. Those particular $25 pets came with a matching stuffed animal, so you're getting a RL item for that money.yeah but the German Shepherd is a vanity pet, that means it does nothing. At least in that other game the $25 was going toward something mildly useful (though the price was still to high even for it).
The purchaseable pets that compare to the German Shephard are $10 and are bound to account, meaning all characters on that account get one at the moment of creation for the life of the account.
The newest pet is also $10, but unlike the other pets above, it is not account bound and can be sold or traded to other players. -
Quote:I'll second that caution against Ad-Aware. After reading the link, I decided to uninstall the program entirely for my own piece of mind and found something installed on my computer that I did -not- authorize being there. A program called Conduit Engine, which appears to be some sort of Rogue-ware toolbar that installs browser addons without permission.Microsoft Security Essentials + Malwarebytes.
I'd caution against Ad-Aware, as apparently they were purchased earlier this year by a shady company:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/11...as_new_owners/
It just happened to be installed on the exact same day that I updated to the latest version of Ad-aware. Coincidence? Could be, but I'm not taking any further chances. >_> -
Quote:Yep, other games do have long downtimes. The production servers are down for maintenance for 6 hours which is annoying. Are other online games down for maintenance for such long periods of time? Also, the US being the bulk of game players why don't they do the maintenance like around 3 am Eastern time or something. Thanks
The Big MMO has maintenance every Tuesday morning, usually starting from 4am PST to 11am PST.
Extended Maintenance days, which usually indicates a patch, or they're adding a new server, hardware issues, etc., maintenance may start around 2am PST instead.
Other Tuesdays, maintenance may be rolling server restarts, which last anywhere from 5 to 20 mins usually.
And then, there are those wonderful Tuesdays when maintenance is not needed and we get uninterrupted service.
Of course, this inconveniences Aussie and NZ players during prime time, but according to the data-mining, Tuesday at those hours is the time when fewest players are online. EU servers have their own maintenance hours.
Someone will always be inconvenienced, somewhere in the world. -
Quote:I did read through the entire thread, for what it's worth, and I don't feel that way. I can see points on both sides, but I have to agree with someone else that I think people are perhaps reading far too much into this death at this early point. That's not a bad idea. I have a better one, though. How about I play none of them at all? That will solve pretty much everything. Well, except for First Ward and the new low-level content, but I can simply not play that, either. I'm starting to wonder at which point I will "not play" the vast majority of the game. Because it's getting there.
*edit*
And I'm the only one who feels this way? Have you read the thread you replied in?
I never once had any thought of misogyny or WiR when it was revealed. One big assumption people are making is that it's designed to grab Manticore and/or Statesman and make them react. Sure, that's the most likely/logical assumption given everything (I thought the same of States,) but when one stands back and keeps in mind the constant amount of plot twists we've seen in the content recently, it's just as possible that it will result in Ms. Liberty springing to action while Statesman avoids being rash (it could happen!) That is her mother, after all. Her namesake.
I do agree that Miss Liberty seems an odd choice given her lack of representation in the game outside a single task force, but the SSA is far from finished, so I won't go so far as to make huge leaps in assuming why they chose her, or if it was a cheesy plot twist. I'd rather wait and see what they have in store for the rest of the arc. -
Perhaps I did misunderstand the intent of the warning, but as the pop up box is worded, it sounds like it's going to revert me back to Villain if I proceed. Nowhere on there does it state that proceeding will kick me from a co-op group. I wasn't teamed up at all either time, so that never even occurred to me at any point.
@Ironblade - Thank ya.I figured as much, but I hesitated to click that yes button just in case.
Someone needs to take a look at the wording of that warning for the future, heh. -
I just wanted to touch base on why this is happening.
Twice now, on 2 different alts that I've taken on the Rogue path, I've tried to use my Pocket D teleporter to get quickly back to a city. I get a popup box warning me that porting into the VIP lounge will reset my alignment to the baseline and was I OK with that, Yes or No.
Are the VIP rooms labeled as strictly Hero/Villain only? If so that seems odd since using the Ouro Portal puts Rogues and Vigilantes in their respective Villain/Hero versions. Shouldn't the VIP lounge work in the same fashion? Or are they truly that exclusive? -
Just a few thoughts from someone who just came back after being gone all during the time the Incarnate system was added.
For the new player, there is very little consolidated information out there on how to get started.
I managed to finally get through the Alpha unlock arc on my Scrapper, but then it was "What now?" I went to various wiki sites via google, the City of site, the forums here, etc., and found much good info, but all too often, the information was scattered too widely and became a frustrating jumble of flipping back and forth between tabs, having to click links to other pages to look up salvage, "What does THAT part mean?", and so on.
The game itself leaves you on your own, to try and make sense of things and that's off-putting for new players and those just returning.
Add in all the various Merit types out there and suddenly you're facing a literal morass of information. "What do I use this for again? Why is this important? Is this linked to the Incarnate system or not? Do I spend these Merits for this to do this or make this, or am I making a mistake?"
I was so excited to learn that I could use up all those Vanguard merits that I don't need anymore to buy something for the Incarnate system until much further digging revealed the only thing I can buy with them is useless for my Scrapper.
This system is way too complicated and confusing, IMO, and could seriously stand for some streamlining to make it more user friendly. Especially given that there is no one resource out there that truly breaks down the system into a 'new player' friendly format from Step 1 onward.
I'm certainly not opposed to having to dig around for the info on outside resource sites. I do that all the time. But when I can't even get the most basic of 'how to get started' all gathered in one spot, then we have a problem. The more time I have to spend making charts, spreadsheets and lists, the less appealing the game becomes. I don't think I'm alone in this. -
Quote:I can't agree with this more. Even developers of MMO's everywhere are finally getting the idea that a significant portion of their gaming populations enjoy soloing more than teaming much of the time. This is so wrong that it's laughable.
"Massive Multiplayer" does not equate teaming. It means that I'm online playing and you're online playing, it does NOT mean that people have to join up to get things done.
Yes, things can be easier in a team, but requiring teaming is the antithesis of any game company that wants to make money. Some of us don't like teaming. Some of us only want to play when our friends are on. Some of work weird schedules and are only on when no one else is.
I work with the public 40+ hours a week, on the weekends. I get off work at 7am EST/EDT. After dealing with those people all night, the last thing I want to do is deal with more people, especially in something I'm paying for that I want to enjoy.
I respect and enjoy reading your opinions, Celestial Lord, but this comment is way off base in thinking MMO= team. MMORPG just means, there's a bunch of people online. I it does not mean "Team or lose!"
Solo comics sell as good, if not better than group comics. Why? Because solo heroes have just as much fun, if not more, than groups.
That's why Spiderman can team up with The Avengers for a few issues, yet still go back to being Spidey. Because teaming does not always mean fun.
Having real people behind characters around you rather than AI controlled random npc's makes for a far more dynamic world. That's to head off any 'then go play a console or single person game' comment. People in the game make the world alive around you, but that does not mean you're bound by rule or law to spend time doing things with them.
Kinda like... real life. Other than perhaps work environments, you're not required to spend your free time interacting with, or doing things with, anyone. Period. What you do with your time is your choice.
A game, Massively Multiple Player or not, should be the same.
There are plenty of people who want to group up to do the content, so there's no shortage of teams to be had. The main point is that the new content coming out in CoX is more and more designed to funnel all players into huge teams, leaving those players who prefer to solo behind. -
Woo, wondered what was up with the Hero skin. Sanku for the update.
And yes, to add to the others, I get logged out when I close out the browser, then come back later. Doesn't matter how long later either. I've got Remember Me checked, but I'm just too forgettable. -
Quote:Yeah, my mistake was in completing the mission. Once I did that, they couldn't help me out. Lesson learned and all that. You could try petitioning for it (although this late might be unlikely).
If it ever happens again, just petition and don't turn the mission in. -
Hover Fortunata is a ton of fun.
I really enjoy my Fort. Haven't tried a hover Crab though. I opted for Super Jump on her instead.
