    This is bad

Ouroborus flashback arc for Tina Mac or ask around if someone has the mish for him especially in your server's global's main channels.

    Fiery Aura

If you want to see a recharge reduction for Consume, then it either has to do less damage or none at all. I would like to see it dropped down to 60 sec base recharge, do no damage at all, be auto-hit for end recovery, and add a small slow component that requires a to-hit check. Consume can slow your foes then drop Burn for more toasty critters.

But I don't think any chages are gonna come to Fiery Aura for a whille.
  3. Well, I did figure out what was going on.... WinXP was running CoH/V in compatibility mode for Win98. DOH!!

  6. Yeah, the armor toggles I usually just 3 slot but with max level which puts them closer to the ED cap than the Gift of the Ancients can get you. Its a trade off that if you really want to use a lower than max set, then definitely put an extra slot if you have them.

And I saw the 2 slots in Wet Ice. I just overlooked mentioning it. And I was just looking at set bonuses instead of enh values in some powers.
  7. So let me tell you about an experience on recent ITF with a Kin on the team . I was playing my dominator, just hover blasting/controlling away. Not too high mind you-- still in range of speed boost......

Leader sends me a tell: "kill faster." Now this is not seriously said. I know him in RL and he was just joking around but....

I responsed, to my horror, in team chat instead of a tell, "I could if this Kin was doing a better job." And quickly added, "though it might help if I descended a bit."

Leader sent me a tell, "LOL."
No one on team said anything else.
A couple of minutes later, the Kin has dropped from the team and the leader says in team chat, "Guess he didn't like your comment." But, lo and behold! The person's computer had crashed and logged in soon again.

Oh, I had SB the rest of the tf.
  8. Yeah Hoarfrost does need some end reduction in it. Key word: some.
Arctic Mastery is a good thematic choice. I've personally done Ice/Fire/Pyre, Ice/Elec/Earth, and Ice/Axe/none. Personally, I hate Shiver though, even on a blaster/ dominator/ what-have-you. My Ice/Axe, I took fighting pool instead of an epic. He is basically retired though as I have other tanks on that server but nothing is quite as satisfying as the crunch of that Axe.

EA needs max recharge. I would still go with less end mod. One application in the middle of a mob will put you at cap with the build I (will) post. 2nd app will completely drain all the rest of their endurance (except Ebs and Avs).

For melee damage sets, Smashing Haymaker and Kinetic Combat are a typed defense-based toon's best friends for softcapping defense. Smashing Haymaker is the more abundant thus less expensive but gives the lesser bonus. I suggest to frankenslot the other 2 slots with what is cheapest or whatever drops for you, looking for acc, recharge, end, damage (imo, roughly in that order).

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the toon.

  9. Not a lot of influence? Frankenslot

Energy Absorption: I slot for recharge, defense and end reduction-- in that order. And always 6-slot it as early as possible. Fire it off with 3 or more foes around you and it will always fill your end bar. Jump in a spawn and fire it off for that +def, with max recharge it will be back up before your end bar empties.

Hoarfrost: Recharge, Heal, end red, and off the wall.. Steadfast +3% def. 6 slot it early

Hibernation: good at a single slot unless you want set bonuses. It recharges for a tank in 2 mins with a 2 min cooldown period. So slot for bonuses or just a single Heal or End mod for flavor.

    Swift-- 1 slot period
Combat Jumping-- slot for defense. 2 slots at least, more if you want set bonuses.

Armor toggles: they really are overslotted. Go with 3 each: 1 def/end IO and 2 def IO.

Focused Acc? such an end hog but of all tank primaries, Ice and WP both can easily handle the burden best so if ya want it go for it but...

Energy Epic with Conserve Power and PP is really almost useless for an Ice tank. Between EA and Hoarfrost and Hibernate-- endurance and HP wont be problems.

Go for set bonuses for defense as soon as possible. Prioritize Smashing/Lethal and Energy/Neg. Hasten is also helpful. Those are my thoughts looking at an Ice/Axe.
  10. Nope. Have all the updates- even installed optional ones. Still same issue. Maybe I'll just reinstall- no big deal really.
  11. OK I just got a new(er) mobo and cpu. I have had a few versions of XP in use in my house and just decided to use XP instead of getting a new OS (Win7).

A problem occurs when I completely exit the game then try to run the game again. The Updater runs. Then I would click next to start running the game and nothing happens. I finally found what is happening: upon exiting the game, the game is still taking up resources as if it is still running in the background (but it isn't). Pushing ctrl + alt + del brings up the Task Manager and lo and behold, there it lists CoH as still running, usually upwards of 900k MB mem usage. I can end task or end process from the Task Manager screen but does anyone know a way to stop this from happening?

I've heard from a family friend that is an IT guy that this happens fairly often with XP but this is the first time I have heard of it. And I have installed and reinstalled Xp numerous times on numerous motherboards. Any chance anyone knows a quick or easy fix?

  14. This is in no means a yea/ nay to your idea Bio, but your numbers for the passive resists are too high really. Power Pool choices should not be better than Primary or Secondary set choices. Energy Aura has 2 passive resist powers with base stats of 7.5 to smashing/ lethal and 9.38 to E/N/F/C. Therefore passives in Fighting would have to have base stats of half or less of those numbers then the variable AT modifiers can be taken into account.

Still I wouldn't mind seeing a reworking of Power pools to include a 5th power and a new tier system for power selection.

    Aggro Bug?

My typical tactics for solo farming with my tanks on __ / equivolent to 8 man team:

    Aggro mob #1.
Aggro mob #2. Watch some of mob #1 return to their original spawn point.
Herd to a position near a mob #3. Note: this mob will not take notice of you unless you damage some of them.
Use AOE's to defeat members of mobs #1 & #2. Some of mob #3 will now see you and will begin to attack. The stragglers from #1 & #2 & #3 will start to filter in as you defeat their buddies.

This will not work if you have any teammates even close to you but it will allow you to mimic herding of multiple spawns at one time even though aggro cap is 17.
  16. I think something has been left out of this "discussion" so far. It's great that you can see the intricacies of different build possibilities with this Vet reward. You may not be able to see what incredible harm this could mean to brand spanking new players. As any player who's been around for awhile can attest to, we have all seen some really bad builds. Now think of the horrible build a new player could make taking Fly, SS, SJ and /or TP by lvl 12. I mean taking all 4 at the expense of primary/ secomdary powers and while being able to travel thinking you're all cool but not able to survive let alone defeat anything. This is a problem with your suggestion. New players need time to learn the ropes in any game. Experience makes a world of difference.

Now, you may have been playing since IOs came out. You may think that you know as much as those players that have been playing significantly longer than you. And you might. I don't know you personally so I cannot make an opinion about you as a player. But even those people that never played all 60 months but still payed (stuck it on a CC and forgot about the sub maybe?) and don't know anything about the game have payed their dues.

Pay your dues Grasshopper-- simple as that is why this is a bad idea. This is why making Vet powers as purchaseable options is a bad idea. New players haven't paid their dues- don't have the knowledge or experience to use them/ appreciate them. Now who can determine when new players have paid their dues-- the Devs, and they have given us Vet rewards NOT purchaseable rewards at given time frames.
  17. I would second trying to turn off a firewall or virus program. A few years ago after a game update, Norton went bonkers on my system and really screwed with the game. And as with the recent troubles with McAfee, sometimes an update can really screw with a computer even though other programs were running fine before.

WAIT!! You mean that as a 60+ month vet I get to skip pre-req powers and take fly, SS, SJ or Teleport immediately at lvl 6??
    /unsarcasm

Well, truth be told, I've made quite a few toons in the months since reaching 60 month vet and I have yet to take a travel power at lvl 6. As others have said, it's not that big a deal. But don't step on us Vets that have been around this long. It's not our fault you didn't realize how good this game is years ago like we did. Or for those others that for reasons beyond their control (for example: they were too young or without computer/ internet access), good things come to those who wait.

Just did a search on Amazon: CoV Collector's Ed--- $4 and change for a brand new unopened retail box. And it includes the Prestige slide power, a badge and the Heroclix figurines (and a month of game time). If you doubt the veracity of the unopened staus, I bought 2 of these and they were both as advertised.
  21. All Scrapper STF has been done multiple times already. Basically bring your best built toon and everyone goes ball-to-the-walls all out.

As for LR, throw a softcapped Shielder at him with lots of defense and resist inspires. You want to get to 75% defense and cap resists to energy and lethal/smashing. For added padding, if the shielder has Broadsword or Katana and the team has lots of Tactics, use the +defense attack and stand somewhat close to the team.

For the Towers, lots of aoes to kill those repairmen quickly.

For Ghost Widow, only have the best defense rated toons with their aggro auras on. Multiple Grant Cover + Maneuvers will floor the chance for her to hit with that hold and her heal.
  22. S1. Ask in broadcast, local, global or help channel for assistance inviting toons to your SG. Basically, some nice person will jon your SG for a short time so that you can log in with your toons and get that person to invite them. After that, you thank the person profusely and kick them form your private SG if they haven't already quit themselves.

S2. Currently only SG members that are logged in may be promoted. There have been many requests for this to be changed so maybe in the future it will happen. Now, SG rank doesn't mean anything for game play so don't sweat it.

S3. There is no SG storage for recipes but you can craft them and store any enhancements you want in a storage table. I don't mess with the base editor much so I don't know the requirements to build these storage tables. You can set permission privileges for the storage table to remove or add enhancements. So, craft with one toon, store it, then pick it up with the toon you want to have it.

O2. Join the global channel(s) for the servers you play the most on. They will have tf forming, mish team, monster fighting, help for a particular mission requests, and just general chatter. Check out the specific server forums for the names of these channels. Most are open for all to join. Some may require that you ask to be unsilenced by a channel moderator before you can talk to the other members.

I tried the Entropic Chaos set and found that the Chance for Heal proc never affected me. It might have gone off but I think it healed the Mortar instead of me. I like the Devastation: chance for hold proc. Really, this is a good power choice for many procs. I would flesh out the rest of your build and then go for the combo of procs and set bonuses that thrill you the most.

    fun brutes

Make one and try it. If it aint fun, make another. Just that simple. Since we don't know what you think is fun or what your playstyle is, we cannot tell you what you will find fun.
You get a lot of character slots scattered on all the servers. With free server transfers extended to the end of Feb, don't worry about which server you make one on.

But my most fun brute to play is my SS/Fire or SS/SD. Nothing like extreme smash numbers.
