Several questions from a returning player

Greetings.

I am a returning player to CoX. I decided to re-up when they sent me an email about double XP weekend. Since then, I've been enjoying the game again, but have accumulated a few questions. I'm hoping you good people can answer them.

SG QUESTIONS

Myself and two friends formed a SG a couple years ago (my character was the SG leader). The SG was just for the three of us, but we used it for all of our toons. Over time, all of us eventually let our accounts lapse. When I returned, I paid the outstanding base fees, and the SG still seems to be intact. However, neither of them are playing right now - it's just me - and I'm having trouble figuring out how to do some of the functions by myself.

S1. How can I invite new toons I create into the SG?

S2. How can I change ranks for toons already in the SG? Some of them are due for promotion, but it won't let me change their rank unless they are logged in?

S3. Is there any base item I can buy to allow community storage of recipes?

MISSION QUESTIONS

M1. If I outlevel a story arc, will I still get the XPs for it if I go to Oro and 'flashback' it?

M2. Where the heck is Jane Halloway (contact for 24 respec trial)? I checked vidiotmaps website and found where she should be in IP, but I couldn't find her in-game.

M3. Is the level 24 respec trial soloable? Are there multiple bombs to defuse that must be done simultaneously? How do trials scale for level/# of players?

M4. What task forces are soloable?

OTHER

O1. How often do they have double XP weekend? When's the next one?

O2. How is the best way to find a group? I've put my LFG flag on but haven't rec'd any invites except during a Rikti raid.

O3. Why are the hazard zones always empty? Don't people ever group to clear them for fast leveling anymore?

Can't help with the SG ones (not an active SG'er), or those specific Mission questions (don't Oro much, haven't done that Respec before), but for the Other questions:

O1. Double XP weekends have been coming around every 4 months or so... last one was just a week or two ago, so another probably won't be along for a while. They haven't announced the next one, as far as I know.

O2. The best way to find a Team is to form your own, Here's how.

O3. There's now bonus xp and reduced debt during missions, plus an aggro cap (no more "dumpster-diving" Tanks herding an entire zone), so you don't see as much street-sweeping these days. Most of the action is going on inside instanced missions.

I can direct you to the CoH wiki for help on those other questions.

Welcome back to the game and the forums!

Thank you for the answers RL.

One more Q:

O4. What are Patrol XP (shown when you mouseover the XP bar)? Does that having something to do with the reduced debt in missions?

I really want to know the answer to S1 if anyone knows. I couldn't find anything about it on the wiki. I want to start a new hero, but if I can't invite my own toon into the SG without getting a 2nd account I probably won't.

S1: You need two players (or one player with two accounts) to invite people to an SG
S2: They do indeed have to be logged on, sorry
S3: No

M1: Yes. You always got full drop, inf and merit rewards for Flashbacking. I16 introduced SSK which means you also get XP.
M2: She is on the bridge in IP right where it turns the corner.
M3: Yes and no. A sufficiently well built character probably could solo the Trial, it's not that hard. However it still requires four people to start.

Q4: Yes and no. Patrol XP is basically reverse Debt. While you have it you gain 150% XP with the extra 50% coming out of your patrol XP. Additionally if you die with Patrol XP then the debt is subtracted from that rather than applying standard debt. Additionally debt was substantially reduced some time ago and is halved inside instances.

M4: This depends entirely on your powersets/build and what you can take on... If you can take out archvillains solo (with or without help from shivans/warburg nukes) the list is rather large. If you can't; positron is an easily solo'd TF, I believe...

S1. Ask in broadcast, local, global or help channel for assistance inviting toons to your SG. Basically, some nice person will jon your SG for a short time so that you can log in with your toons and get that person to invite them. After that, you thank the person profusely and kick them form your private SG if they haven't already quit themselves.

S2. Currently only SG members that are logged in may be promoted. There have been many requests for this to be changed so maybe in the future it will happen. Now, SG rank doesn't mean anything for game play so don't sweat it.

S3. There is no SG storage for recipes but you can craft them and store any enhancements you want in a storage table. I don't mess with the base editor much so I don't know the requirements to build these storage tables. You can set permission privileges for the storage table to remove or add enhancements. So, craft with one toon, store it, then pick it up with the toon you want to have it.

O2. Join the global channel(s) for the servers you play the most on. They will have tf forming, mish team, monster fighting, help for a particular mission requests, and just general chatter. Check out the specific server forums for the names of these channels. Most are open for all to join. Some may require that you ask to be unsilenced by a channel moderator before you can talk to the other members.

Joining your server's global channels is also an excellent way to increase your teaming opportunities.

Mr_Body has given a good summary, but I'd like to expand on these points.

SG2. You will notice that there is a shiny new red star in the rankings. This is the top dog, the head honcho, el heffe, the one with the power over all. However, the red star CAN FALL TO ANOTHER toon in the next rank down if the Leader does not log in before the set demotion time period. The star will go to the toon with the most seniority who has logged in within the demotion time frame. If nobody in the second rank fits those criteria, it will go down to the next rank, etc., until it falls to someone that does. This was done to prevent an SG from becoming completely leaderless if the "Leader" went on hiatus for an extended time.

SG3. To set storage unit permissions: You need to be on a toon that has edit privileges. You do not need to be in edit mode to edit permissions (actually, I think it only works OUT of edit mode). Open a storage unit's window like normal, and click on the new permissions button at the top. Set permissions to give and take according to ranks. You will need to do this for each storage unit individually (inspies, enhancies, salvage). If you are planning to share your stuff with your other toons, make sure they have the correct rank to take, or set up a special unit with looser permissions to accommodate them.

Speaking of storage: You may have noticed that the salvage racks now hold regular invention salvage (base salvage is obsolete), and have a limit of 30 items. If you have a salvage rack that is loaded with old base salvage, there is a way to convert it to invention salvage. It goes something like this: base salvage --> brainstorms --> invention salvage. Check the conversion recipes on the small enhancement crafting table. READ THEM CAREFULLY. You will get different results for each recipe, so you will need to decide which ones are the most cost effective and suit your needs.

Most folks have left their legacy racks loaded and only convert on an "as needed" basis, since you will be able to take from the rack, but you will not be able to add back into it until the load falls below the 30 item limit.

I apologize if this is all redundant information, but if you weren't the one managing the base before, then hopefully it's helpful now.

You cannot. I believe it is this way to prevent malicious demoting, or absconding or SG's.

Not in base. The best you can do is place them on the market, but DO NOT POST them.

Yes. If you do not wish to, you can disable XP--or disable it just for exemping--under Options.

She's on the North end of the Bridge. She'll have a colored circle at her feet(as all contacts now do).

Not really, there are just too many enemies to deal with in the reactor. (Still, I haven't heard all anecdotes, so it might be possible)

Quote:
M4. What task forces are soloable?
Most of the Ouroboros Tfs can be started solo. The fall of the 5th Column I have soloed. The one with Manticore going Rogue? Not a chance. The current Posi, yes; but that might change with i17(having not seem the new one)

They do not seem to announce these as far ahead as they used to. They announce them in the Dev/Community Digests.

Makes friends, and be social. The best way, I've found. Also, make sure you are not hidden(/unhide_all)!

Not so much since Mission Architect became available. I still see Sewer teams form in Atlas sometimes. I believe the Hollows gets more love since War Witch revamped it. Cimerora and especially the Rikti War Zone attract players.

ForumSniper, what server are you on?

I'd be willing to help you get your SG invites straightened out. Got some critters on most servers.

In game @Cyyan.

Travel Suppression is this game's worst feature, well that and MetaHumans riding mass transit like tourists at DisneyLand.

I'm on Victory.

Thanks, I'll try to message you in a day or two, once I decide what new toons I want to make and get them created.

You should join the "Victory Forum" and "Victory Badges 2009" global channels when you get a chance. Between those channels (and Victory Badges channel, which is full, so you can't join it) you should be able to get into a lot of team situations of various sorts, not to mention being able to participate in some random chatter if you are into that sort of thing.
