  1. Voted for CoH. Another +1 for the heroes.

Will vote again from work (different IP address). Another +1 for the villains.

What can I say? I'm a vigilante at heart.

I have no idea if this will help or not, but I got curious and started looking into the cookies that are set.

I have six cookies assigned to boards.cityofheroes.com, with two different expiration dates among them.

PHPSESSID, bbpassword, and bbuserid are set to expire (this time around) on 11/8/2012.

TS32e4e1, bbsessionhash, and bbthread_lastview are set to expire on 12/31/1969.

I'm wondering if those set to expire in '69 are supposed to be set like that.

Perhaps, but he's OUR dick. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't, right?

Pinn was my 2nd server (started on Champion for the 1st year), but I've been on the drunk server for six years and I'm not going anywhere else. I mean... all my stuff is here, right? I don't want to leave my stuff! Plus, I like the drunkards. I'm one myself on occasion, and no one makes fun of me here (well, not for being drunk at least).

Fortunately, I'm all done with my degree work, I finished my doctorate "officially" in March of 2010. The documentary is an independent project that started at the Pinnacle Meet-and-Greet at Sexy Sultan's place a few Summers ago.

QoD was one of eight people I interviewed at the M&G, and I use a lot of her clips, so I need her in-game appearance too (I have them for everyone else I interviewed).
  5. Hola Pinnaclites!

Some of you may know, I'm working on a documentary on MMOs and gamers, and I'm in the close-to-final editing stages now. Today, I realized that I'm lacking one bit of in-game footage, and as far as I know, the person whose footage I need doesn't play anymore.

So, I'm wondering if anyone A) remembers @Queen of Diamonds, and B) if anyone might have a screenshot with her in it? I can re-create her costume and do a demo-edit, but I can't for the life of me remember what her in-game costume looked like.

I know this is a long-shot, but I'm hoping someone might have an old screenshot lying around somewhere that they could send to me. If you have one (or know how to get in touch with QoD), *please* let me know asap! Thanks!
  6. *applauds* Bravo! I'll be murmuring the Enriche song under my breath all day, I think.
  7. That's ALL the other servers need... a bunch of drunk Pinnaclites weaving through traffic and knocking over garbage cans on their way to other servers.

Best if we all just stay put here, where the authorities are understanding and there's always someone to drink with. Who knows... Exalted could be some sort of tightass tea-totaling server! *horrified gasp*

I'm staying put. Most of the folks I hang with are staying put. I think we're good here on our beloved drunk server.
  8. I joined in late August, 2004. Since then...

    * Moved to the middle of Michigan to continue my career as a college professor.
    * Bought my first-ever piece of new (as in "no one has owned this before me") furniture.
    * Became truly self-sufficient for the first time.
    * Re-connected with an old friend from undergraduate days and got back into Radio (which I continue to do every Summer).
    * Saw the group of friends who got me into CoH in the first place move away to other games.
    * Found streaming radio and did a stint as an "on-air" DJ for a couple years (fond memories of w00t Radio)
    * Survived as a true "loner hero" until I made new friends, thanks to one very sympathetic Tree.
    * Helped my Father through prostate cancer, helped my Mother through a "Death Episode" and major heart surgery.
    * Became a tenure-track faculty member.
    * Hung out with new friends online, went to my first M&G in Ohio, and the hung out with them even more online (2nd family).
    * Helped two of those friends celebrate their wedding in Chicago.
    * Became a Doctor of Telecommunications.
    * Watched my wife start her dream business, a local bakery that will be a year old in October.
    * Paid off my student loans.
    * Became an Uncle six times (three nieces from my sister, two nephews and a niece from my brother-in-law).
    * Decided that being the "cool Uncle" for my two oldest nieces is the best gig on the planet.

All this time, this has been *the* game. I've dabbled with others here and there, but CoH has ruined me for any other game so far.

So turn down the in-game music, and get ready for some hard-rockin' retaliation from radio, Radio, RADIOOOOOOOOOOOO FREE... hey! Wait for me, I just have to pack up the microphones and the computer..."
  10. Unfortunately, yes. Yes I do. I just unpacked my new keyboard and monitor last week. Damn you Steelclaw...

    This.

I also like Sanctum and Ascension, although they don't quite fit the naming scheme established by the other servers.

Love is out there. And City of Heroes can help you find it. And immobilize and confuse it. And Assassin's Strike it if it gets too needy.
I admit it. I laughed out loud. It was the last two lines that got me. Bravo.

    Thanks, Devs!

As a long-time Hellraiser fan, I heartily approve! Nicely done.

Not to nitpick, but you're only half right on this one.

And in Timecrash, he specifically says "You were my doctor" when addressing Peter Davison, so... I'm guessing that it's a bit more Davison than Baker.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying...

  17. Whoa... I experienced a green-sky storm one summer in high school. We were without power for a week afterwards. But in that instance, the sky was just slightly green-tinted.

This looks near-apocalyptic in strength! Batten down the hatches, and stay safe!

This is really, REALLY good idea! The software's already there, they'd just need to update it. I'm not sure, however, if they should include the purchasable costume packs or not. On the upside, it would really expand the Independent Costume Creator's options, but I fear people might feel cheated if they then went in-game and couldn't make what they saw.

    So Firefly...

Welcome to your new Browncoat life.

It was too different ("A sci-fi show where they ride horses? Huh?") and on the wrong network. Imagine, for a moment, what Firefly would have been like had Joss been making the show on HBO... Yeah.

  21. We tried a BAF last night and, as it was my 3rd of the day, I decided to time the lag. On average, with all powers recharged and ready to go, I was getting 10-second power lag between the first power firing the the second power firing, when the second power was clicked as soon as the first activated. The lag was as short as 2-seconds and as long as 15-seconds, depending on what part of the trial we were in.

To paraphrase Bill Murray: Something is seriously wrong with it!
  22. Thank you so much for linking this... I didn't find out they'd be doing it until after I'd left town and couldn't set up a recording myself.
  23. She was "my companion" in the same way that Peter Davison was David Tennant's Doctor. I began my Dr. Who experience with John Pertwee, so she was the first companion I really connected with.

Someone else mentioned this earlier, but her death hit me like the loss of a friend. She was part of my life, and had been for many, many years, although she'd never have known it.

Rest in Peace, Miss Sladen. You will always be my companion.
  24. Everyone's thinking it, so I'll be the first to say it:

This is unfortunately true in some cases. The joke I heard over and over as I went through my Ph.D. program was "What do you call a Ph.D with bad grades?" The answer: "Doctor."

I've experienced some incredibly bad instructors in my schooling. But, on the other side, I've had the pleasure of learning from some of the most amazing Doctors I've ever met, and still call some of them friends.

It's like any other career... there will be good examples and bad examples.
