The devs find enough things to nerf ridiculously without adding more suggestions to the pile.
-
Wasn't it ridiculously useful in PVP all of a sudden? Or was that changed?
-
Quote:CEBR ("Claws/Electric Brutes Rule") - check the thread, if it still exists, in the brute forum. Are ambushes that much of a problem that they needed to do this? I'm not being sarcastic. I honestly would like to know. What IS the source of the ills in AE? Do the farms rely on ambushes?
Formerly:
Get your AOEs (damage aura and spin)
Load on insps
Trigger ambushes on bosses
Go to town on ambushes and rezzers.
The rezzing got hit a patch or two ago. The bosses (I don't think minions/lts did anything) would spawn ambushes - I *believe* at each quarter-health increment. (I've honestly not looked.) There would also be destructable items that spawned ambushes. (Or it's an either/or thing.)
So, yeah. They did rely on the mechanic, just to get a horde of enemies in range for AOEs.
What I find sadly amusing about this is, as I write that description, I think of Praetorian ambushes (and, recently, one in SSA #2 heroside) that piled several ambushes worth of enemies on me at once, when I was at a level and on an AT that certainly couldn't handle it.
I'd *really* love to see some patch notes about things actually fixed in AE. Or see some old arc cleanup. Or UI updates. Something other than nerfs. -
I'm not against it in the least, but (a) the demorecord feature isn't really *supported,* and (b) the only argument I can think of *against* this is that it might break or otherwise cause problems with cut scenes.
Frankly, I'd like to see more tools in general given for the folks who like to play around with demos. But I'm not holding my breath. -
Quote:It's part of it - that's what sparked the comment during discussion with my friend. I mean, pick a power and say "Nobody takes it," and you can almost always add "... except MB" to the end of it.Was this question prompted by the fact it got an update in I21 - so that its now useable on any League-mate instead of just team-mates?
Except in Sonic Repulsion's case.
I mean, I can't really see that change as a *buff* to the power, y'know?
But yeah. I *am* curious to see if someone actually has a (non-griefing, non-set-mule) use for it. -
So, talking with a friend... I tend to take, and use, powers (and effects) generally not highly *praised.* I use knockback. I use cages and intangibilities. Maybe not every group, or even every play session with those powers, but I find them situationally useful.
And then there's Sonic Repulsion, which even I don't take.
So, what I'm wondering, is... does *anyone* take and actually use this power? And how? Now, by use I do mean use *usefully* (IE, not "I put it on brutes I don't like.") And actually use (not set-mule for Kinetic Crash's KB protection.) Because I really have a hard time finding a use for this.
Now, if it were centered on *me,* I could definitely find uses for it. But sticking it on an ally... not so much. Even pets, thanks to their AI, I can't see it being useful for.
Anyone?
(Yes, this is idle curiosity more than anything.) -

Quote:.... But I know that I'll be coming back some dayGood interview here where he admits that he's said it before but "they wouldn't take 'no' for an answer." They also told him they might get a sound-alike and he'd have to explain to fans why he didn't want to do it.
I'll be playing this part 'till I'm old and gray
The long-term contract I had to sign
Says I'll be making these movies till the end of time
Oh with my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda...
(OK, so no yoda, but still, first thing that came to mind on reading that.) -
I've got to admit, my impression of precognition defense would be the person going "Hell, no, I'm not going in there - they'd try to shoot me!"

Quote:That would work for me.I don't have a problem with the fact the devs want us to prove our alignment before we can receive an AM.
My issue is with the fact that I have several characters that I don't want to change alignment. Having to run 11 missions to prove that is silly.
If this has been brought up before, I missed it and sorry to re-propose it. I think they need to have a single "loyalty" mission that you could get from a trainer or even a SF/TF contact. You can run it once and it proves your loyalty/alignment.
It could be something as easy as a contact in Pocket D who gives out the mission.. the "same" mission for both heroes and villains, just a different outcome. e.g. Save people from a burning building/set said building on fire.
You wouldn't get an AM or anything special from it, it would just confirm your alignment. However, if you run a tip mission that's not of your alignment, the confirmation is lost and you have to do a full set of tips+ morality to get it back.
95% (or more) of my characters are never changing alignment. They started hero (or villain) and are staying that way. A few that had Rogue/Vig fit them (I can think of... hmm... two? Three?) have done that. Two or three have done a complete change. The rest? I'd do exactly the above to "maintain" my alignment with no other reward and be perfectly happy with it. -
Quote:It's not the "benefit," it's the fact I'm locked out of it if I don't have the time or am not available when my server does the "Right, let's get 24 people together for this and waste a bunch of time doing so before we can start."Right. If there wasn't a *benefit*, people wouldn't be complaining about the lack of a solo path.
With a solo path, I can make progress even if everyone's concentrating on the new-shiny (say, the holiday event) or is burned out on the latest trial, or I only have X amount of time and want to go through it at my own pace (as opposed to "OK, everyone, rush around and hope you know what you're doing.")
Quote:Personally, I don't understand the solo path argument at all. It's an MMORPG. You play with other people.
Besides, the *majority* of content in this game is soloable. Or they can be done with *small* teams - note how the old TFs tend to be ignored, and the new (or redone) ones have smaller requirements, no more "Must have 8 people (and keep them throughout - hello, Cavern)" for the most part. No other system locks you out of it completely if you don't have 30 people with you. (And no, shard conversion is not in the *slightest* bit a 'realistic' alternative.) AE? Find something soloable. Inventions? Can get them solo. There's no "need to team" to get from 40-50, for instance... and then we hit the Incarnate system, the Puddle of Annoyance, and the "Must team, must grind raids" design.
Besides, this is supposed to be your character reaching their ultimate power. I SHOULD be facing off against gods and such solo. It just seems a bit *ridiculous* to say "Yes, you've soloed archvillains, you've fought against the worst odds and come out ahead, you're now going to be even more powerful - but you can't do jack without at least 15 other people as powerful as you are." Eh? Sure, there are a few threats I could see taking that sort of power ("Defeat Ruularu, once and for all" for instance,) but not "That's the only way you have open to you." -
Hmm. Could've sworn they said that was part of the pack. Ne'rmind then.

Quote:/thisI managed to snag 3 CoH DVDs from Big Lots for ten bucks each a few years ago (I bought all of them they had!). It's unlikely they'll show up there again, but possible. I keep looking anytime I go that way, even if I am not actually going *TO* Big Lots.
Last time I went looking, admittedly a few years back now, they had several at $10 - snagged what I could for some of my friends (as well as a second account.) -
They may have been in the middle of their own "thing" and just ignored you. *shrug* Virtue's been "The RP server" long enough that they can get fairly set in their ways.
I'd either have sent them a tell ahead of time, asking if you can join in (as opposed to just walking up,) or went down to the virtue forum to find a SG. Don't think RP only happens on virtue, though. -
Already have it, depending on the building.
Just hop from ledge to ledge. -
The real curse of Shazam:
Some of us can't hear it in anything but Gomer Pyle's voice.
"Sha-Zayam!" -
So, in the ustream today, we have our new(ish) guy, ThinkTank.
And we have an abandoned theme that sounds like it could be right up his alley.
While the Blood of the Black Stream are dead as an EAT, the (very) broad-brush theme of them is still something haven't really run across - a techno/magic group. Given the long life of the group (from ancient egypt,) there's a lot of potential tie-ins with other groups:
- Midnighters (obviously)
- Pretty much *all* the magic groups. Given we have no real background, there's some potential to also expand in a conflict (or alliance...) with the Banished Pantheon.
- Croatoa-era. You've got the assets, work with 'em.
- Nictus. If this is a techno/magic group, these science-based aliens may have had some interest in them and what they could do.
... just off the top of my head.
What I'm getting at is this:
- We've got info, 'hooks' and assets in the game. Don't waste them.
- And we've got a new world dev that sounds like he'd love to mix ancient, modern and 'techy' stuff. This would be a great place for him to show off.
Pare the BOTBS down to the absolute essence and let him run with it and make it his own. -
Quote:There are some like that in the game. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing ambushes that run to where you pulled that lever, maybe start looking for you from there, with a chance of NOT finding you when they don't see you now and then.
SOME home in on you. And *Some* go to where whatever the trigger was. (Stepping down a side corridor to watch an ambush run past was not unusual.) -
But trainers and tailors are the same thing now... they're.... trailors.
(No argument with having one there.) -
... which, again. 300 characters. I don't have that in the tray on all the ones I have run it on. I don't run the tip missions on all my characters - especially older ones that started and are staying an alignment.
-
Quote:/seconded. I've got 300-odd characters. Got that same message on one I was fairly sure I *had* run the alignment mission on to begin with. So... dig through your badges/powers, I guess, before running it if you want the merit. It was in the patch notes.
It looks like you have to be reinforced as a hero/villain to claim alignment merits now.
IE- run the hero or villain morality mission on characters prior to being able to claim A-merits.
Kinda sucks...
(Seriously, can't we just keep it as a default - you started a hero, you're staying that way, you're good?) -
Which somewhat sucks, as I don't know *until* then if I've actually run that on any specific character without digging through badges or powers. Just got that on one I was fairly sure I *had* run the morality missions on.
