Curse of SHAZAM announced.
Veeeeery interesting.
I shall keep an eye out.
It should be Miracleman. <.<
'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.
Interested as well. I watched him all the time on TV when I was a kid (that and Isis; It was the "POWER HOUR"!!) Though I'm fond of the character, I never kept up with the comics, but enjoyed the Superman/Shazam! Return of Black Adam DvD they made not too long ago.
Currently the only books of the new 52 I'm purchasing is the Batman and Dark Knight titles. I might have to check this one out though.
"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.
I dread the horrible things they might do in redesigning a great costume. As well as whatever annoying name change they might be doing.
Goodbye may seem forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my heart's the memory
And there you'll always be
-- The Fox and the Hound
This was the only reboot title I was remotely interested in until I saw this:
"I absolutely love Mark's take on the character, even though we really only see the true Billy Batson for a second or two before he dies," Frank said. |
No thanks.
Antigonus,
You realize the quote you took was from Mr. Frank's description of the character as used in Kingdom Come?
Frank said he became a fan of the Shazam character when he read Kingdom Come, the 1996 comic series by writer Mark Waid and painter Alex Ross. "I absolutely love Mark's take on the character, even though we really only see the true Billy Batson for a second or two before he dies," Frank said. "But on every page you can feel him and his history. It's all there in the way he is perceived. I love the fact that there is an unease among the other heroes to be in the presence of that much power. "There are superheroes," the artist said, "and then there are Billy and Clark [Kent]." |
Thank you for the time...
Ah, ok missed that. Thank you for the clarification. I guess I let my skepticism get the best of me.
The way DC runs things, it'll end up like every other Captain Marvel title, canceled and probably late.
I'm wary of the changes alluded to by the "curse" tag, but who am I kidding? It's not like I'm buying any of this New 52 crap anyway.

Someone play my AE arc! "The Heart of Statesman" ID: 343405
While I'm not sure what could be done in a modernizing of Captain Marvel, I like the approach taken by the writers of the Young Justice animated. Basically a young kid in a adult body. I like that. |
This created conflict within the JSA when the old guard members noticed that Captain Marvel had developed an "unseemly" relationship with the Star Spangled Kid. Billy could have said "SHAZAM!" and shown them that he and Courtney were actually the same age, but the Wisdom of Solomon wouldn't let him do it. He realized that if he were to show them that he was a teenaged boy, it would undermine his effectiveness as a superhero. He did the noble thing, and broke off the budding relationship with Courtney (he did explain why), and left the team to remove himself from temptation.
This subplot always stuck out to me as proof of why the Wisdom of Solomon is the first of his powers, before the Strength of Hercules.
I hope they manage to keep the core of the character in this new incarnation.
New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Billy Batson says SHAZAM! and turns into a female superhero version of Captain Marvel? Stranger things have happened. "Holey Moley! What are these!"

This character has always been interesting to me and I feel underutilized. Maybe there has been a placement issue b/c hes partially a Supes clone, but his backstory is really different enough to flesh him out. And yeah, I enjoy the concept that has been used in the Young Justice cartoon recently to portray him...seems right on the money.

"when a stalker goes blue side, assassination strike should be renamed "bunny hugs", and a rainbow should fly out" -Harbinger-
Interesting tidbit from today's Justice League.
Apparently a mysterious Wizard has been kidnapping people and testing if they are worthy to be a champion.
Not much more detail then that but it looks like they are already laying threats for Captain Marvel to be in JL.
The real curse of Shazam:
Some of us can't hear it in anything but Gomer Pyle's voice.
