Challenge: Make Flurry Useful

I know, I know, it's not easy. But where would the fun be if it was? I hereby challenge the forums to come up with a slotting for Flurry that makes it useful in some situation! You've heard players ridicule the power for years, now it's time to prove them wrong!

Dark melee can use it for the attack chain for the gods. Shadow Maul>Flurry>Sands of Mu complete attack chain that requires 0 recharge, is end efficient, and looks cool.

It can take a kinetic combat IO set and at the same time unlock burnout for you if you usually take hasten. It can take an assortment of proclaimer IOs aswell if you are so inclined to use it as an attack.

I don't know if it will give you good damage but it could cause a bunch of weird effects XD

Let's see...

Something that lacks melee attacks, but wants them,
absolutely wants hasten,
and doesn't really want the flying pool.

A Cold/Kin/Mace Controller might get use out of Flurry.

It's decent for any controller who wants Burnout. Any random pool melee attack is a decent soloing aid, you probably don't have a full attack chain without needlessly spamming controls that aren't even slotted for damage (and maybe not even then), so its lowish DPA doesn't matter, and since you're punching statues you don't care too much about its lack of knockup.

So you can skip superspeed and go flurry/hasten/burnout.

This. Due to the akward choice of rebalancing PvP attacks around steady DPS mechanics, slow animating attacks with low recharge rates are insanely powerful there.

Cant think of anything that would make that power useful in pve, though, other than a touch from a developer's hand.

Best possible way to make Flurry useful would be to change the power from being an All-or-Nothing attack into something which rapid fires multiple attacks in a row, each of which gets an independent chance to hit. Of course, doing that might do ... interesting ... things to the power's Proc-ability, which in and of itself might not be a Bad Thing™ considering the power's current reputation.


It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

Make it do a huge pbaoe buff to teammates (and leaguemates); like +tohit, +dmg, +end. recovery, +hp regen....seeing a teammate use that power inspires everyone to be just as awesome as that person.

Same recharge, same everything; just adding the buff.


Oh wait, you mean make it useful without OP'ed? meh...what's the sense?

the only way i would change it is to make it a cone like sands of mu, of course its dmg is already sub par so making it a cone wouldnt hurt anything

If I was going to change it in any way, it would just be cutting down on the cast time. Somehow leave the visual FX (the one with the yellow hand shadows) last as long as it does now, same with the DOT.

Idea being, this is a Super Speed attack. You are so fast, to the point you can hit from two directions at once.

Make the chance to stun higher and stacking, with itself. So, the first two blows cause a mag 2 stun, then the next blows make a mag 4 (2+2 that is). Have the stun effect appearing as the power goes on, not at the end of the animation.
This way, melees could use the stun in conjunction with other stunning attacks, as well as to semi reliably stun a boss, at the cost of a long animation where his mates can hit you. And squishys get a melee that can actually stop the bad guy in their face hitting back, long enough to put some distance between them.

I'd be pleased if they kept the same damage, recharge and chance to stun but changed it to a 7 ft cone with the same arc as Shadow Maul/Sands of mu. It would be nice for stalkers and other low AoE sets to have a modicum of aoe.

This is a nice idea, but so far there's only a few suggestions for making the power useful as it currently is, which was the original challenge.

Perhaps making it fast because it's in the superspeed pool instead of what actually boils down to being a very, very slow attack.

Put any 6 procs into it. Laugh as it does decent damage and either: knocks the target back/gives extra disorient/immobilizes them/ or gives -tohit.

It does quite a bit of damage in PvP but it's still a piece of poop since planting for that long is just asking to die. If youre in lolfiteclub melee vs melee matches it's ok at best (Still better dmg to take really fast activating attacks and proc them out)

Flurry doesn't do the DPA that Boxing does. If it did then it would do more damage. If it did do that much more damage then it should cost the right amount of endurance so that Boxing and Flurry had the same DPE. Then we have to take into account Flurry's higher chance to disorient, give it equal chance. Now Flurry would have the same DPA and DPE going for it that Boxing does except the good thing about using Flurry is that you can recover more end through powers like stamina over its longer cast time making it better than boxing in that sense but worse in the sense that your positionally fixed for a lengthier time. But atleast then they're somewhere equal.

I may take it to represent the signature attack of Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star on a tribute character I'm planning on making (with Street Justice)

I kinda like the wapwapwapwapwapwapwapwap of the power. I've used it just for kicks before.

Remember, it doesn't always have to be about dealing as much damage as efficiently as possible. It's okay to use a power just because it makes you laugh. Really, it is.
