  1. Just adding my own comments here for posterity. I'm not likely to read this thread at all again.

GW2 is a fun game. I prepurchased (not preordered, prepurchased as in full price) the collector's edition because I loved GW1. In some ways, I find it to be inferior to GW1. There are fewer skills, and traits aren't as easily changed as attributes were. Moreover, there seems to be only one or two viable high end builds for each class. That will change with time as more skills and possibly traits are added or revised. I preferred the old system of story delivery, despite the added depth in GW2. But I can adapt. Will I play it? Yes, partly because I paid for it a long time ago anyway. But also because many of my RL friends play it and it's a genuinely fun game.

I don't want to give up CoH though, and in no way will GW2 ever replace CoH for me. There's no superheroes. No supervillains. There's just undead and dragons and slightly modified elves that happen to be made of plants. If CoH dies, it will be Plan Z that eventually replaces it for me. In the meantime, Champions Online might serve as a temporary outlet for some super powered shenanigans.

And you don't see any contradiction there, and refuse to even discuss it. Just "The studio must have exactly the same employees that it had on August 31, 2012 - not 50%, not 80%, not 99%, 100% the same - otherwise it's a completely different studio", and that's that.

Okay, then. But refusing to discuss it doesn't make you right.
That, and Tankers still need a damage buff
  3. The OP likely meant the link where questions were being organized into a Google doc.

As others said, there's no answers yet. That's a good thing. It means there's still a reason for them to not release the answers.
  4. It occurred to me that I never really played much in as a Gold or Red character, so I'm going to start a new character later today to get through some of that content over the next couple months. My hope is the game will be saved and the character will continue, but that may not be the case. To account for both possibilities, this character needs to be fun from levels 1-50. So I've done some thinking and have established a few choices I think would work. My question is what's the best choice?

    1.) Dark Melee/Invulnerability Scrapper
    2.) Dark Melee/Willpower Scrapper
    3.) Dark Melee/Invulnerability Brute
    4.) Dark Melee/Willpower Brute

I'm not particularly sure whether Invuln or WP is the better secondary for Dark. Both have their advantages. Similarly, I'm not sure whether a Brute or Scrapper would be better. The Scrapper benefits more from Soul Drain, but the Brute has higher hit points and more capacity for improvement from team buffs and IO sets if the game is saved and I get to take the time to create an IO build.

    Which would you pick?
  5. From my knowledge, some or all of your wishlist has been in the works since Black Friday.
  6. How to get more players: tell literally anyone that this game exists. I'm pretty sure NCSoft hasn't done that since CoV launched.

Being surprised by a market reaction because you really plan for all the risks, shows real poor program management over there and that does not instill investor confidence.

Right now, they are still working out how to solve it. It takes time.

    Don't give up.

I love that Captain America post. And the OP. And the other ones.

Keep it up guys, I know these have been a long two weeks but that's ultimately not all that long in the realm of corporate negotiations. We have to stay strong.

Check the date. It's those numbers at the bottom right of your screen.

You can talk all you want about how unimportant games are and how unlikely we are to save this one. The fact is we are making noise. What don't people understand about this? The point isn't necessarily to win. If we win that's great. The point is to fight. To not go quietly. To demonstrate to NCSoft and the rest of the industry that this is bull and we refuse to be treated this way.

When November 30th comes along, you can say "I told you so" if you want. Nobody will care.

The reason we don't listen to your viewpoints and whatever else you said (see how much I'm not listening) is because you are directly insulting what we are doing and insulting our personal feelings about the situation. To a great many people this game is more than just a game. There are people that play CoH that can't leave their home due to disability. People that have no family in RL and found one as a part of this community. People that met on CoH and got married. Blow smoke all you want about paying for 3 VIP accounts and introducing your girlfriend to the game and whatever else. If you can truly say that this is just a game then you don't understand.

In the end, I recognize that the odds are against us. I always did. But doing something is better than doing nothing at all. What are you accomplishing by sitting there and telling us all how it isn't going to work? Does bringing others down make you feel better?

The silence is because of talks with Paragon Studios, not with an outside company. It's not likely that those talks will last until November 30th. They'll be decided one way or the other by then. Also keep in mind that rumor indicates, and I'm inclined to believe it, that NCSoft is the reason why a CoH 2.0 upgrade never happened. If Paragon gets the game, I imagine they would go forward with that plan - which supposedly was going to allow CoH characters to be transferred over to the upgraded version. That would draw in a lot of new and old players, as would the success story of an MMO being saved by its community.

I fail to see how others think the best thing that can happen is a single server being left open but no further development occurring or having another company buy the game. What would keep another company from shutting us down next year? For that matter, how would another company handle the game? Would development be the same? Would we even want to play it, or would the new company just remind us every day how much we miss Paragon Studios?

And for the people that bother posting here to tell us there's no chance any of this is going to happen and move on and CoH had a good run and blah, blah, blah: Why are you posting here? Isn't it a waste of your time?

I'm glad I'm not the only person that thinks this is more important than just CoH. As much as I love this game, the industry in general needs to learn they can't treat customers like this. NCSoft being the biggest offender.
  12. I understand why some people don't agree with this decision, but I also understand why Tony made it.

More to the point, every troll that read this post already sent some very angry sounding emails. Maybe several.

If you want our community to be well represented, the good emails have to outnumber the troll emails. Even if you would not have made the decision Tony did, it's important that you still send an email.
  13. I understand your anger. I feel the same. But we can't yet go on the offensive. Not until we know that talks with Paragon have ended.

It'd be akin to nuking the city while your troops were still in it.

So instead we wait, and we fire up the press even more and try to break into mainstream news and business journals. If we aren't getting their attention, if they insist on silence, perhaps we just aren't loud enough yet. It's time to be louder.

  15. Are they related to the Lore AMA? Or something that was posted separately?
  16. What now? I was unaware of these documents. What are they?

    Sad.... again!

Nah, leave them up. People will need those again soon.

Tried Mann vs. Machine on TF2? It's not single player, but at least it's co-op. It's actually pretty fun.

I again want to stress that this is by fans, for fans, and we're not looking to profit off of the CoH IP.
In that case, I can't wait for the game and I look forward to watching your progress
  20. I'm getting sick of it yes. But it's not so much the money stuff. Despite the complaints, I don't see many games putting anything in that's pay to win. Besides, I don't mind paying for games that I like. Developers are people too you know. Everyone needs to make money.

My problem with the industry is that story is disappearing. Casual games are the fotm, and those don't even have to pretend to have a story. Then you have MMOs that claim to have story, but the story is "I'm having a hard time with these undead. Can you kill 5 of them? That'd make things a lot better." GW2 said they wouldn't be like that. They're worse. Their "revolutionary" no-quest system is just grinding that tells you where the enemies are. It's not even remotely story driven. CoH was one of the most story driven online games out there, was getting more story driven, and allowed me to make my own stories to my heart's content. And now NCSoft is closing it down so they can put out more junk

I'm really, really glad that some of the old RPGs are being remade. Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition comes out this month. I preordered it. It's been far too long since I've played a game with a decent story, and BG is right up there with the best of them. I highly suggest anyone with similar feelings try it out.

You just gave me a reason to start playing a new character. I can't even remember the last time I played content that old. I guess that controller will see at least a brief life after all!
  22. The future of this game was more exciting now that it had ever been. I was contemplating purchasing my first ever 12 month sub when the news hit. That's why I'm so passionate about keeping this game alive. It never got stale, it just got better and better.

"Jumping the shark" is a term normally associated with some event that was so exciting that the show/game could not possibly compete with its own past and therefore was cancelled. That's not what happened here. I don't think it could have happened here. This dev team always had awesome new ideas up their sleeves. And no matter what happens, I will follow them to their new projects - that's something I don't generally do in any medium. I don't read books written by a specific author (I read them because they are next in a series or world setting, they may or may not be the same author), I don't watch movies because of who directed them, and until now I didn't play video games because of who developed them. But now I will, because I know how talented this team was.

    Old News

My first thought when I read that article? "I remember when all those other games were things!" Then I got sad.
  24. I've found that until this situation plays out I can't quite bring myself to make a new character (who brings a new life into a world that's on the brink?) but at the same time I'm not yet ready to stop thinking about characters I might make. Actually, I'm not sure I'll ever be ready to stop making characters. Pen and paper will fill the void if virtual representation is cut off from me. Regardless, what was/is the next project you had planned?

For me, I was getting ready to try a new Controller. I was thinking about an Illusion/Trick Arrow. Seemed like a good combination mechanically, and I managed to make the concept work for me (technology, like the one generic hero that pops up in redside missions).
