Quote:Focusing on this specifically, I can "deny" his MOG several ways -My suggestion does not make things a cakewalk, it only removes the time sink component. My example of the Paragon Protector, he was already beat, his going into MoG is nothing but a time comsuming annoyance.
- The aforementioned hold
- Any knockback
- Knockup/down.
These are available to multiple ATs - all of them, considering knockdown is available via Air Superiority.
As they try to recover, I have time to continue and remove the last bit of health they have. And so, for your earlier comment:
How is denying the "time sink" not making the action easier?Quote:The denial of an effect such as Invincibility, is not really making the action easier, it is only denying a time sink
The time sink, in this instance, can be - well, anything. The aforementioned MOG. The reichsman fight (which you get tools to overcome anyway.) A running boss. If I stop the boss from running, I defeat him sooner, thus taking less time. If I stop the PP from mogging, I defeat him sooner... again, taking less time.
Prior planning reduces time sinks. (Select PP, get info, see which one's Energy vs Spines, make sure to concentrate on keeping them un-moggable.) -
I'll say part of it's luck, too. I've gone for a month or two without seeing any, and had (at one point) three drop within two missions. I'll see them less frequently, of course, because I'm all over the place level-wise - if I spent all that time on one or two of my 50s, I'd see more purples just because I'm fighting more stuff that drops them.
-
For most of them, there's only one way - the NC store.
However, for some (Valkyrie, for instance,) buying the edition is a better bet. They normally run $20 but provide a free month of game time (so, $20 for what would cost you $25.) That would be the Mac Pack and the Good vs Evil edition - assuming you don't already have one of them (you can only apply a code once.)
The Magic, Cyborg, and Wedding packs are just packs, with no associated edition other than Architect (which gives you one free.) -

And one that had to get done when it popped into mind. My oh-so-fun plant/thorn Dom, Carolina Jessamine, biding her time 'til she gets the information she needs.

Yeah, mentioned it in the east coast thread - very sluggish and slow since last night or this morning sometime.
-
Note that this is true just for *renaming* builds, as well. I wouldn't mind being able to rename them in the same way - I understand the need to wait to switch and use different builds, but to train/enhance/name them is a bit tedious.

Server Pinnacle
Provider Suddenlink
Location Pflugerville, TX
I have ZERO lag spikes on the test server. The lag spikes started for me on Pinnacle at around 10PM CST and have been persistant since then.
Please yell at the appropriate ISP in the morning.
Rubberbanding badly on Pinnacle, and it's a quiet time on Monday morning. Netgraph looks like a bed of nails with all the red spikes.
(As mentioend earlier - Pinnacle, Comcast, central FL.) The forums have been wonky for a while, too. -
Just a quick breeze through the posts, and I wanted to throw a thought or two in.
1. Take advantage of dual builds. Start as a triformer, since Nova *does* make life at lower levels less painful (and a lot of fun - head to Perez and self-PL for a while.)
2. Don't look at Essence Drain as "another heal." Look at it as an attack that happens to heal you. (And take advantage of Theft of Essence if youc an - the Accurate Heal set - just to get a mix of Acc and healing if needed.) Balance to your own needs.
3. Don't worry about "needed" IO sets - because, really, none of them are. If you want to tackle a specific area that you really want to see if you can boost up, *then* go after them. (Alternately, they can give a whole new challenge to play - with even more tradeoffs to consider in slotting.)
4. Carry a blue. -
"Forum Games," last one in this section.
-
I've looked (and presented) similar ideas in the past, with various limitations. Even with all the sets we have right now, yeah, some could use one-off combo-IOs. Still like to see it.
-
Some of these are potentially useful in what may be a longer, drawn-out fight. Part of the question, as well, is "Are you going to prefer melee or range?"
Wish I could say precisely what I did on my Fire/Fire - I don't believe I took burn. Some of my power choices, as well, were considering the teaming I normally had. Teaming with a Kin regularly? For best effect, you're going to be in melee *anyway,* so Hot Feet, Consume, Blazing Aura, etc. are going to be worth more. (They should, of course, be dropping ID on you if they have it.)
Of course, you're not on a regular team, as you said. FSC is still quite useful (IMHO,) Hot Feet to slow and scare things away, but the rest in your situation I'd call purely optional.
Then again, we do have dual builds if you decide to try a different form of melting faces.

Quote:As you proved with your "masterminds are weak and underpowered" comments, among other things, your powers of observation leave MUCH to be desired. If you were a jailhouse guard, all the cells would be empty. What? =P You obviously DID take it personally. It's not so much an assumption as it is an observation.
As the person you're making this "observation" about, I can say with absolute certainty that no, I did NOT take it personally. Your idea is just so poorly thought out it deserves all the tearing apart it gets. And your idea of what's "easy" is so out of touch with any portion of reality it's laughable.
Not my way of life either, kid. And you must really have issues to think that just because you didn't mention it by name, it wasn't *painfully* obvious you were talking about CO. Here:Quote:Haha... when did I ONCE mention CO? You act like speaking against CoV is blasphemy. Seriously, you need to take a breather--go outside a bit, that's what I do when people insult MY way of life.
That was you, sparky. "Other superhero brands?" The only one that's popped up is CO. It's not WoW. LOTRO isn't about superheroes. Neither is KOTOR, or SG, or STO. DCUO is still over a year off and well within the timeframe to be killed.Quote:The problem with this game is, while OTHER superhero brands pop up...
"I didnt' mention it by name" is not the same as "I didn't mention it."
Your lack of understanding of *everything this would entail* is the only thing eclipsing your poor observational skills.Quote:Ahh, but that's the simple part--they don't add POWERS, they add EFFECTS (aside from Build up and all the obvious ones like that). Attacks would be chosen by the user (animation, secondary effect, etc)--all the devs would have to do is create the foundation, and then new powersets would be as easy as moving a new 'effect' into the list. MAYBE with requirements, to stop overpowering.
You want them to scrap (er, "create new") ATs. You want them to have to balance *every power individually against every other individual power* - and guess what, sparky. That includes secondary effects. That includes animation time. That includes everything you're calling "easy." Now go ahead and balance *every single power in the game* against each other, multiplied by *all* those options. Still think it's "easy?"
Now take those "same" powers and balance them around, oh, let's say how often a Scrapper crits. Or how it works with a Stalker's inherent. Or a Brute's fury.
Simply put, you have no idea what you're going on about when you say "it's easy." No, I'm not a dev, but over the past four and a half years of being told *by* them what goes into their balance decisions - because they get called into question almost every single time - I at least have developed some idea about it. -
Quote:Check out test server.Whoa, whoa, whoa! Stop right there! What on earth are you talking about?!?!?! I have not heard anything about this before (or the pets zoning thing, for that matter!)
Does Conserve Power for Elec Armor now include a self heal?!?!?! My god... my elec brute is gonna mow down so many freakshow if this is true (BU + Fury + Lightning Rod = BEAUTIFUL ONE SHOTS!)!
Both coming in I16. (Conserve power is now Energize. At 50, with 3rech/3heal SOs, it gives - numbers, of course, subject to change pre-release - a 30 second 59.6% energy cost discount, 194.99% 30 sec Regen rate boost, and a 913 HP heal every 1m1sec.)
-
First you make (bad) assumptions and declarations about ATs and powersets, now you do so about me. I sense a pattern.
Really? So pointing out how "wonderful" CO is, and how giving people *what they've asked for for years* is a "waste of time" wasn't a major part of your thread?Quote:You missed the entire point of the thread--CO has nothing to do with it, and niether does what people 'want' (Regardless of how long people have been asking for colours, they're still only interesting until you've grown accustomed to them).
*looks again*
Yes, actually, it was, just before the poorly thought out idea.
Pardon me while I laugh heartily at this.Quote:This is an idea pitch for an entirely new set of archeatypes, without forcing the devs into actually doing any work! It would bring in players--new and old--and even give existing players hundreds, THOUSANDS of new character combinations. It's not a complaint - it's a way for an outdated game to completely thrash the competition.
First, it's not making new archetypes - but now it is? And the devs "don't have to do any work?" Oh, that's right, they just have these magic wands they wave around before lunch! What, they don't? They'd actually have to go in, alter the UI (for starters,) set up the templates and try to balance *just the templates themselves,* then go through *each and every power* and probably water it down so it wouldn't end up with an overpowered mess...
Your idea would be *horrendous* to even *try* to balance, and if you're complaining about "all these nerfs" (without bothering to acknowledge all the BUFFS we get) NOW, you'd REALLY be wailing if they got trashed enough to even try this.
I'd say this "outdated" *cough* game will do *just* fine against the competition, thanks, having seen, played, and discarded it. -
Nope.
Really? Examples? There's the occasional skippable POWER (see also Mastermind - Poison - Poison Trap) but "select few powers that make the entire set look useless?" Not that I've seen.Quote:I know I do--There's always these few select powers that just seem to make the entire set look useless.
If you're looking at things like team-centric powersets, the counter is already there - dual builds. You can make a nice teaming build, and use the stuff you won't take (say, in FF or Empathy) on a solo build to take other interesting powers (Leadership, stealth, whatever.)
No, really, it's personal preference. Since I have yet to run into an AT that didn't seem worth playing.Quote:Either that, or the Archeatypes themselves just don't seem worth playing. Most people chalk it up to personal preference. Me? I call it shoddy work.
You're losing credibility here - well, losing it faster, I have to say. Weak, lacking, and utterly reliant on patron powers? My Thug/Poison is the only AT I've *accidentally* soloed AVs with. As in, no preparation and forgetting to alter rep while solo - and no ducking out for more inspirations or to grab a teammate.Quote:MMs were revolutionary--there's VERY little like them. If they had been built in a way that allowed them to feel like the army they were supposed to be, everyone would want to play em. But, instead, they were made weak, lacking, and completely and utterly reliant on patron powers to stand on par with the other villain archeatypes.
Perhaps you should do more research into the individual ATs.
How DARE they take advantage of their new, larger team size and funding to give players what they've asked for for years upon years! Such horrid business decisions! Oh, wait...Quote:I've played this game on and off for a couple years. Through it all, I've noticed one little fact... just one nagging desire at the back of my brain...
These recent updates have been TERRIBLE!
Instead of getting content, powers, or just really cool toys, we've gotten small 'perks'. Costume pieces, power colours, power animations, very close-ended mission editers
No content? (See 5th column TFs, last issue,) powers (Claw brute, Broadsword stalker, ElA Tank, Rad blasters and for never-before-had new, Earth Assault for Doms)... hmm. Perhaps you'd like to look at that supposition again.
Ahh, a thinly veiled "CO iz hawt" thread. Sorry, they're already nerfing the hell out of things. CO was (here's that personal preference again) ugly, lacking customization (hey, look, I'm stretch armstrong... but so are you... and you... and you...,) boring (spam one attack so you can do anything else - where's the action again?)Quote:The problem with this game is, while OTHER superhero brands pop up with exciting new features, graphics, abilities and outright potential, this trashy, old, outdated game stays the same: same code, same powers, same costumes, same graphics, same zones, same PLAYSTYLE. The only major differences appear to be how much worse powers seem to get every month, due to nerfs. All this does is make people who might've once wanted to use those powers... ignore them. From there, they can either create a new character using a powerset they still like, play an old character, or... quit.
Oh, and ask doms about "nerfs" and how much "worse powers seem to get." They've gotten a global buff to all damage. I16, anything with pets will have them zone with the owner. Blasters - see new Defiance. (Admittedly a little old now.) Ask an ElA brute how they like their new heal (as opposed to *just* an END discount - which they still get.) Or EA brutes about THAT heal. Or... wait, all those are buffs. Hmmm...
Sorry, but at this point I have to look and say "you have no idea what you're talking about and/or just a bad player, and/or have done no actual research before spewing complaints." With this exceptionally weak foundation, I can't take the rest of the idea seriously.
Last, click the link in my sig to the various guides, and check out the "guide to the original COH trailer." Watch, read the dev diaries, and find out why they went to the system they have now and *dumped* a more freeform layout. (Yeah, sure, before you say it CO has a "more freeform" layout... if you want to be a blaster or scrapper analog. Want control right off the bat? Sorry, no go. Team support? Nope. Seems a bit more restrictive to me.) -
:P
I'd actually forgotten to check 'til earlier. Worst performance is on Virtue, but those go to maintain a base and SG as well as play, so they're on, pay rent, then I go join friends elsewhere...
Pinnacle:
Therra Paladina - 50 PB - 623hr, 366 patrols. (50 in I5-I6.)
Sunhaven - 21 Warshade - 26 hr, 34 patrols (LPacted)
Victory:
Voidbane: 50 PB - 181 hours, 151 patrols
Violet Flame - 50 WS - 522 hours, 432 patrols
Virtue:
Voidbane (original) - 24 PB - 70 hr, 88 patrols
Gregor Malkov - 23 WS - 75 hours on 75 patrols.
Didn't check since they're low:
Aria hightalon, 6 PB. (Need to do something with her costume. It bugs me.)
Umbral Flare - 9 WS.
1495 hr total, 1110 patrols.
The difference between my first 50 PB (Therra, up top) and my newest is... interesting. No PL'ing, though Voidbane was part of a duo (and vi part of a trio.) The first 50 still took a lot longer to *get* there. As far as Voidbane - yes, she's on two servers, since that's (personally) where her storyline went. She also replaced an earlier PB there (pre-extra slots/rename, IIRC - though I'd have started over anyway) in the ... eh, late teens or early 20s.
All that said, they'll probably get more play once my "one of everything to 50" is done with. Need to get the bane up there (slog, slog, slog, bored) and a Corruptor as well (38 or 39 now.. but another duo.) And get my friends to stop dragging me into new projects or theme teams
-
Sounds like (if I recall my AVs right) Siege or Nightstar, then. Potentially Black Scorpion. At least for the first ones that come to mind.
-
IIRC, they're handled like NPCs. Currently they don't do a LOT of damage, typically, but I seem to recall if they do a decent chunk, you're out some percentage of XP already.
Been a little while though. -

What's the difference between a Peacebringer and a Warshade?
This has been getting asked often enough from new (or soon to be) 50s to merit a quick-reply cut and paste from me. Welcome to the world of Khelds! Enjoy your stay?
Basic reading
These guides will help you a lot:
Iscariot's guide to the triform Warshade by Justaris. Yes, it's warshade specific.
Plasma's ultimate guide to Kheldians for a very thorough overview. Really. It's long-ish, but read it.
And for the backstory, there's my own backstory guide. More "in game lore" than powers.
A quick overview
Khelds in general - Can be built around one (human) form or multiple forms, known as biform or triform. The other forms act like a blaster and a sort of "pocket tank." Human form buffs carry over - if you hit Hasten, you get it for the full length of Hasten. it doesn't cut off when you switch forms. Toggles, however, do at this time.
That said, the two are different in many fundamental ways.
Peacebringer - the old reliable.
Peacebringers are completely "self contained" Khelds. What this means is that all of their buffs and heals are going to act exactly the same, given the same level and slotting, every time. If you're level 40 and hit your self-heal for, say, 200 HP (making up a number) one time, and you hit it again without levelling, you'll get 200 HP again.
Peacebringers are more melee-oriented. They're more "in your face" than a Warshade. The example I used one other time was, if you insult a Peacebringer in a bar, they'll punch you in the mouth. A Warshade will go outside, slit your tires and fill your gas tank with sugar.
Peacebringers get Fly as an inherent travel power, and are locked out of any form of Teleport (other than the Dwarf form teleport, if you take that form.) And all Peacebringer attacks do a -defense debuff to whatever they hit.
Peacebringer Dwarf form gets an AOE knockdown and a click self heal that, again, is completely self contained.
Warshades - the wild, unpredictable ride.
Warshades have higher highs and lower lows in their performance. Where Peacebringers are completely self contained, Warshades rely on living or defeated foes for their buffs. Self heals - especially Stygian Circle - perform better with more defeated enemies around. Self buffs - such as Sunless Mire and Ecliipse - will give greater benefit with more live foes around. (This is part of why they also get some self-stealth, an oppressive Gloom clone, and I'm pretty sure part of the reason behind Teleport.)
Warshades are very control heavy. Every attack does some -slow and -recharge if it hits. They get an option of self stealth in shadow cloak, an Oppressive Gloom (PBAOE stun) clone, Gravity Well as a hold and other immobilizes and stuns.
Warshades also get somewhat longer lasting pets (and, generally, more useful) in Extracted Essence, which adds to your firepower, but requires a freshly defeated enemy to extract. It's also pretty much impossible to get them from ghost-type enemies and machines that explode. You can, with enough recharge, have up to three of them out for a short time, but they will expire. The plus side is that they do stick around once you're defeated. A Warshade in Nova with two "koosh balls" next to them spitting out damage is loads of fun.
Warshade Dwarf form gets another Mire (recently buffed!) and their self heal is a single-target attack which must hit - it's a copy of Siphon Life from Dark Melee.
Warshades, of course, also start with Teleport and are locked out of Fly (except in Nova form.) that said, TP Foe (Starless Step) and Gravity Well (your hold) are an excellent way to take care of pesky Void hunters before they get a shot off at you. You also get Shadow Recall at level 10, which pre-travel-power teammates (and later, those who want to stealth missions) will greatly appreciate.
Which is better?
They're both good, but they shine in different situations. If I'm clearing out a map, a Warshade's going to have lots of groups to play with, siphon from, get essences and the like. If I'm facing a long, one on one fight versus, say, an AV or EB, the Peacebringer's going to have an easier time with it, as the Warshade will only have the one target to buff from and will, over time, lose the essences.
I *generally* suggest a first time Kheld start with a Peacebringer to get a feel for everything. That said, they're both a lot of fun - and yes, I have multiples of them at 50, and don't regreat any of them. -
Eh, I don't worry about it. Stack holds on them and they don't MOG anyway. >.>
-
Nope, sorry, it's weird. Says so on page 89. *points* See?
