  1. It's only on the person using the power. The recipient doesn't get the benefit.

  3. Eh.

I've still got a ton of costume salvage from the past few years. It'll be nice being able to turn it in in Praetoria, though. Can't say I'm overly enthused - though maybe the DA events will get played through instead of ignored as they are the rest of the year. Curious about the tip mission, though.

The devs are a bit busy this year, understandably, with GR, I19 and 20 in the pipe. Can I ask now for something new next year? (Actually, what I'd like is the chance to get a perma-temp costume power of the ones collected... that, I'd work for.)
  4. I'm against just reducing/getting rid of things without regard to what's going on in the TF (or story arc) itself.

    Quarterfield reference, if needed.

For instance, clicking two computers at once to shut down the portal? Makes sense to me as a security measure, and it's not that tedious to do. More than two, though, gets to be a bit of overkill (and tedious on a large map.) Doing it repeatedly... has to have good reason.

Some of the running about (into Paragon) can be done as an instance - you're going to a location, after all. That would speed it up some. And some of the hunts could be combined.

An AV... that's another thing I'm "eh" about. I don't like adding AVs for the sake of an AV. If there's good reason to be dealing with one? Great.

Would love to see this trimmed down to needing just 4 to start, quite honestly - for all the high-team-requirements (other than, say, COP which is designed for it.)

Agreed. The SOA arcs *severely* colored my opinion on VEATs... to where I just didn't want to play them. My Crab, when I do play her, is countering that a bit - but I'm ignoring the SOA arcs on her.

SOA - Sad Old Arcs. Ended up AEing a two parter for my Banes. Still needs some tweaking, but... eh.

especially in comparison to the TWO distinct plots the Khelds get, where as SoAs get just the one. Or possibly a half, since that more accuratley represents my opinion of it.
... note, the Khelds only get unique arcs per type for the first couple (to 15?) and then join the same arc path the rest of the way to 50 (from Shadow Science on up.) They're still far better than the SOA arcs.

Personally, I think the SOA's arcs should have been unified from 1-20, then split off by branch - see how the Banes react to one going off on his/her own, see the Crab making it on their own, etc. The little bit in Westin Phipps' arc gives more info than the SOA arcs do.

Frankly, they feel rushed - sure, the booster pack let them get out early, but the arcs suffered greatly for it.
  6. I usually take care of any pool customization when I first talk to the contractor. It's just a pain to get it done afterward, other than little things like landscaping.

    Change Origin

There are four things we cannot / will not be allowed to change on a character:
    AT
    Origin
    Primary
    Secondary.

Three of those make mechanical/balance sense. Origin, I suspect, is a holdover from the early, early (alpha) version of the game, where Origin actually tied into how (and how much) you could advance. I'm thinking it's so deeply buried in the foundation of the character definition that altering things to allow you to change it would break... well, more than we'd expect. (That's aside from suddenly being full of DOs/SOs of the "wrong" type, etc.)

For now, just type something up in your bio.

(I won't argue if we ever DO get to change it - I don't see myself doing so, really, but still. I just don't expect it'll become doable.)
  8. <qr>
The majority of the game is soloable. That's fine. I don't want to see the TFs soloable on the way up. I don't agree that they need to be.

    HOWEVER.

If, as a "reward" for hitting 50 - since you should, in theory, be able to kit yourself out well enough to deal with higher challenges - they were unlocked in Ouro, with warnings, so that you could attempt to do them solo or with smaller teams? I'm fine with that.

(And yes, some of the "require 6-8 people" TFs should have that requirement lowered. For most, 4 people max as a limit.)
  9. The "playerbase" that does that is consisted of idiots. No AT/powerset, AFAIC, is "undesirable." Give me a halfway competent player - or at least one willing to listen and go with the rest of the team - and we're good.

Oh, and Carnie Illusionist Phantasms Decoy Phantasm. The fact that thing can stick around, do damage and is unkillable? Sheesh...
My main gripe with stuff that sticks around? If you have to rescue someone, they *won't move* until it all desummons.

Waiting for a hostage to move because the Knives tossed Caltrops somewhere over... thataway... is annoying.
  11. Hmmmm...

One for the first Stalker I had in mind - when they were announced on COV's Release. Pared down to its essence for the bio-

    Quote:
She was a quiet child. Her parents felt proud of it. Must have been their strict discipline.
    "Ring around the rosy...."
The thought the pets were dead because the gangs in the area were harassing them. She acted upset... but not for the reasons they thought.
    "Sheath is nice and cozy..."
She started drawing flowers... odd flowers. They found they were based on crime scene photos. Gunshots. Blood spatters.
    "Knife in, knife out,"
They took her to a psychiatrist. He asked her to make him a flower. She obliged, with a pencil through the throat, another in the chest. Pretty... as she started to sketch, they came to take her away.
    "All Fall down."
And for Linnurata, an energy/energy blaster/psuedo-Peacebringer:

    Quote:
Saved as a young girl from the midst of a 5th Column attack on the Council by a monitoring Peacebringer, Linnurata became fascinated with the aliens. Hero worship grew to such an extent that she came to believe she WAS a Peacebringer, unawakened or in hiding, she didn't know.
Then, one day - she flew. (OK, fell from the roof, but if you ask her, she flew.) From then, she concentrated on her 'training.' So much so that - in some way the doctors had yet to explain, having found no latent mutation they could identify- she actually found she could manipulate energy. And so she went on to "do her duty."
    She became a hero.
She refuses to listen to the doctors looking for a mutation or some environmental factor to explain her powers. To her, they're just part of who she thinks she is - a lost Kheldian, defending her world and making it a better place - and making some of the true Khelds proud enough of her to adopt her into their ranks.
... honestly, most of my bios/backstories tend to be done out-of-game with the SGs. So finding what I've tucked into those limits, well...

/this. Why is Ghost Widow going to act as patron and train a hero currently fighting against Arachnos?

Rather see a heroic equivalent (with arcs/badges - I'm more interested in the arcs, really) introduced.
  13. Epic ATs are there with a storyline tied to them. Given the four possible paths they already put you through, 1-20, I can't really see either of those being EATs. Costume set options and/or power customization options, sure - perhaps after finishing the appropriate side's arcs - but it doesn't really call out "EAT" to me.

Besides, still waiting on Coralax and Blood of the Black Stream. We know Castle still brings the second one up in meetings, and there are enough hints at interesting storyline that, yeah, I want to see it too. Let Praetoria fill out (or fill in?) a bit more before dealing with a Praetorian EAT.

    Problem solved.

I'd be perfectly happy if Illusion completely disappeared. With two invisibilities, I don't know what's taking it so long. Can't stand that set. Yes, I've run it to nearly 40. Still don't like it one bit.

    I19 confusion

It sounds like it's a "pool" that's not counting toward the four pool limit, and that you'll be able to - say - snag Stamina right away instead of having to take swift/hurdle/health in some combination first. So you do actually have to *pick* the power.

    Waiting on some clarification.

Edit: Thanks for the link. Much better - that's odd wording in the announcement.
  17. Yeah. The sounds aren't exactly consistent, and if they're coming from a female character they're just ridiculous. We know there are gender-specific sound files (see male vs female tank "taunt.") Howl, to me, doesn't fit at *all.*

I'd love to see (hear) alternate sounds, different ones for female characters, and perhaps an alternate animation... like, say, using the Goldbrickers or Council Force gun (and appropriate sounds.)

(Yes, I do have sonic characters, including a sonic/sonic at 41. It's still annoying.)
  18. Inherent Fitness will be like Brawl and Sprint. They will be slottable. You will still have four other pools you can pick (plus one APP/PPP at 41.) If you already HAVE a character with Fitness, you will not get inherent fitness until that character respecs (no double fitness.) And IIRC it'll be available by level 2.

Also, the thing that always gets me looking at stuff like this - all you're seeing is a moment. What about someone like me, who plays both (well, all three) sides? You can't *tell* that from looking at the numbers you snagged that way.

There is a market in Praetoria.
  21. Yeah, second story says it's only with Best Buy and only specific cards. If it *stays* limited to that, there's a lot of room for other manufacturers still (the cards they don't direct-sell, the factory-overclocks, etc.)
  22. Just as a side note, there are multiple ways of getting the Ouro portal. Anything that "exposes you to time travel" will give you the portal - the Science store unlock mission (level 30,) the midnighter arcs (not Origin of Power, though - Mercedes Sheldon's The Magic Man will do it at 20-25) - here, there's a list at the Wiki.

    Need Help badly

As far as the status window - see my signature, combat attributes monitor.
  24. Since I don't know what his schedule's like, just thought I'd let everyone know I sent comments off to naz - as well as just wanted to thank everyone for their ideas!
  25. 1. Are you male or female?

Yes. Male, if you want specifics.

    2. What ATs do you mostly play, and for what reason(s)?

    All of them.

    3. Redside, blueside, purpleside, or any combination of the above?

    All of them.

    4. What are your favorite story arcs?

    Freakylimpics. It's just amusing.
The Television. For much the same reason.
    Vernon von Grunn's arcs.
The whole Kheld set of arcs, 1-50.
Wheel of Destruction. Why, I'm not 100% sure, but I like it.

    5. What makes you like this game?

Friends, RP, customization, AE. Character creator. Lack of real grind. Lack of having to have 'uber-leet gear" to do things. Not needing to have a team to do most things. No real brick walls to progress. No "must have" ATs.

    6. What other games do you play?

Hmmm.... MMOs, none tend to keep me, though I enjoyed Aion for a bit until the grind really hit. Games in general, Left4Dead 1 and 2, Command and Conquer (except 4. 4 is awful and should be erased from existance. Same with the last Red Alert.) WH40K. Myth/Myth II. IL-2 Sturmovik. Airfix Dogfighter. Missionforce: Cyberstorm. Mechwarrior 3 (and a bit of 4.) World of Goo.

    7. How long have you been playing?

*points to left* Since a week before my forum reg date.

    8. How many alts do you have, what is the average level range, and how many are level 50?

200+ alts. All level ranges. At least 20 at 50. (One of each AT at 50, several ATs - Defenders, Controllers, Tanks, Peacebringers, Dom coming up - have multiples.)

    9. Do you bother with softcaps, set bonuses, and all that numerical stuff? What difficulty settings to you normally use?

Nope. I'll peek at bonuses but rarely really build towards them, and the only soft cap I have intentionally is on my head. Settings are "Where I feel fine with this character." Sometimes higher levels, sometimes larger mobs, sometimes dropping it to -1/0, and sometimes changing between them on the same character depending on what I'm doing.
