Sonic Attack Sounds

So...

I really like the concept, effect, and animations of the Sonic attack set (defender, corruptor... does blaster get? I think blaster too) but the actual sound effects are somewhat irritating sometimes. Particularly Shriek. It sounds like some 90-year-old is wheezing in my ear. The 'wreaw' and echo-y part is just fine - pretty nice really - but that breath part. Ick! Does anyone else agree with me?

Yes, I hate the sonic sounds too. Particularly Howl. I still refer to the set as Silly Noise Blast at times.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

I get irritated by it too, but the set does use sound to cause damage. It probably shouldn't have the most pleasant of effects, right? Tough to strike a balance between annoyance and appropriateness there.

I think the current sounds(noises) are probably appropriate, however they grate my nerves so bad that I have to turn the sound off to play my sonic toons, or to team with someone that is staying in close. Just don't ask me to find that hidden glowie if I am on my sonic because I won't hear it.

I always felt it a trivial thing, but I honestly do not play my sonic anymore primarily because the noise it makes drives me insane and turning off the sound is less enjoyable play.

I generally like the sounds for both the Sonic sets. In fact, to me, they're a big draw of playing the sets. Though, I sort of wonder if the alternate animation system can be used to incorporate alternate sounds, though. It just seems...I dunno, appropriate. If Martial Arts gets a variety of fancy moves, shouldn't a "sonic" set give some options on noise?

I'm not sure that's something that can even be done, but it'd be a neat idea, perhaps.

Hmm, now I'm curious if any of the alternate animations we have right now have different sounds than the normal power. If so, they could theoretically just make alternates for all the sonic blast powers with the same animations, but different SFX.

That'd be really, really cool.

Why not just turn down the sfx?

Scarf_Girl: ever since I six slotted my Rp with cyber/emo Hami-O enhancements they haven't been able to touch me

After 50 levels and gods know how many hours of playing my Sonic Blaster, I still can't see what people are complaining about. Maybe I'm just lucky but the sound fx are appropriate to the set and have never bothered me one bit.

I think the OP was referring mainly to the tier 1 attack power as annoying. Personally, I like the sound effects for the rest of the set, but that first attack does, indeed, sound like someone purposefully sighing loudly in my ear. That's the only one I dislike hearing. The rest of the attacks are loud, sure, but you're a Sonic character! What happens when Banshee let's loose a scream in a marvel comic book? People cover their ears! I agree with streetlight here, it's hard to find a balance.

@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.

I found Shout to be the worse offender, which was cool as I skipped it on both my Sonic Blast characters.
Scream and Shriek sound fine to me, but then again I'm over 40 and don't hear all the high notes. I can't remember hearing a sigh noise in Shriek, so maybe I'm just the right kind of selective deaf for this set?

+infinity and I know it's animation time is balanced, but it still feels slow. I pick other sets outside of the times I have already gone Sonic just because of that power.

Yeah. The sounds aren't exactly consistent, and if they're coming from a female character they're just ridiculous. We know there are gender-specific sound files (see male vs female tank "taunt.") Howl, to me, doesn't fit at *all.*

I'd love to see (hear) alternate sounds, different ones for female characters, and perhaps an alternate animation... like, say, using the Goldbrickers or Council Force gun (and appropriate sounds.)

(Yes, I do have sonic characters, including a sonic/sonic at 41. It's still annoying.)

Well, while I currently like the sonic sounds, I would like to see options to allow a little more consistency on a character.

Not just gender, but allowing the player to pick how exactly their "sonic" powers are generated. Currently, some sound vocal (Scream, Howl, Dreadful Wail), while others just sound like... sound effects (Shriek, Shout, Screech, Siren's Song, Shockwave).

A character whose sonic powers come from their vocal chords wouldn't necessarily make the sounds you hear from Shout or Shockwave, and a character whose sonic powers are generated any other way might not make the sounds you hear in Scream or Howl.

I cant stand the howl sound. I wish there were alternate sounds.. maybe with the new aminations we will get new sounds..

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

Yeah. First time I used it I was ready for a respec. Instead I 'silenced' the second half of it - the part that just goes on and on and on - and its much better now.
