  1. The tradition seems to be Luck of the Gambler +7.5% recharge. It seemed to me last time I browsed that the L25 recipe sold for more than the L50 recipe, but that may have been a brief and transient thing. Or an open secret of the market. Who knows? Certainly not me.

The question is... Would anyone ever willingly play with a character whose character concept was that the was "helping" in a woefully inefficient way? Would the humor value make up for the inconvenience?

And if so, what is the most inconvenient build you can think of? Emphasis on something that a sufficiently exuberant child might think was "helping".
I love knockaround powers. Viscerally, they are my favorite thing in any game, period. They just are. I normally restrain myself from making massive use of them in CoX because that seems to be etiquette around here, but I would team with this character in a heartbeat and bring the knocky myself.

My war mace brute (blueside) with hurdle and combat jumping disagrees. Given that she's /shield, hopping around after the scattering mobs and playing whack-a-mole is certainly not optimal play, but it's exciting play. Besides, the mobs would bunch on her anytime they're not being sent flying, and when they're flying, they're not fighting.

Well, I could make a post whining about how all the white salvage I need for badge-grinding seems stuck in high five digits these days and blame flippers, but if I could be arsed to put the orders in advance it wouldn't be an issue. And it seems the thread has trundled on toward the mark anyway.
  6. Did my first 'pricing out' on a character build... 200M is my pessimistic estimate of cost. Though it'd be closer to 1B if I weren't factoring in 4-16 days of A-Merit gathering, which makes that choice a no-brainer...

No purples, but perma everything I want perma, all the procs I wanted... and as both a newb and a player who isn't particularly concerned about optimizing income, based on my earnings so far it'll be trivial acquiring it.

So... not really seeing what people are all whiny about. If the apex gear was superior in proportion to its cost, maybe, but the cost/benefit isn't even close. *shrug*
  7. I'm not sure Siren's Song is really useful, since the toggles make enemies' attacks close to meaningless anyway and sleep is going to be broken left and right by all but the tightest teams.

However, yes. Rad/Sonic is beyond awesome.
  8. Well, I haven't gotten any character past 36 yet, but I'd probably push my Sonic/Rad defender there... she's been my most consistently fun solo character and a good group contributor too.

Not sure what Incarnate slotting to go with though... Not sure if I should aim toward Spiritual Core Paragon and try and get perma-AM (if it's possible... I've not dived into the maths) along with the benefit of extended Sonic stun and a better heal AoE, or the Musculature Radial Paragon and cheese out debuffs plus a sweet general damage boost. I should look up if perma-AM is possible right now and if it's doable without purples before deciding, probably...
  9. Another problem is that, for some reason, companies think they can get away with being not merely content-light but system-light, only including the bare skeletons of promised features, while hyping them up as if they're in and completed, and then basically abandoning further work on them.

Edit: Checked in game, slot 10 does actually refer to farthest right and 9 to the slot to its left.

With numerical issues straigtened out, bind works perfectly.

Did the way that macros work change since this post? This worked with my warshade just fine until she got Black Dwarf, at which point it would only work while in dwarf form.

    Thoughts are tingly.

Anyway, on topic, I guess in the proper speak my suggestions would be:
    • Don't go (pseudo)f2p.
    • If you feel you must go f2p, examine the marketplace of hybrid f2p games and don't come up with a model that looks like an inferior value on its face.
    • Also don't actually give inferior value. But do keep being clever like charging $5 a month as an idiot tax for the jetpack. I mean, you probably don't sell a whole lot of those, but that's basically pure profit on something people can get trivially easily in the game anyway (good thing only a fraction of players read the forums, too). Frankly, its presence on the store increases CoH's relative entertainment value for me, knowing there are people silly enough to use it - including a friend of mine who I thusly rib mercilessly (yet he still does).
    • Um, stuff. Something something... oh! Assuming any f2p move would involve heavily leaning on an item shop, as they seem to, include an item shop stipend in your subscription model. For various reasons, mostly involving consumers tending to exhibit behaviors that work against themselves, that would seem to have a good chance of increasing your store revenue. Then I can delude myself into thinking I'll be just fine as a savvy consumer.

I feel the need to second this. Especially when the context is basically, "Hey Paragon! See what this game is doing? They're being stupid, please don't do this!" and then y'all can say "Duh, it's stupid, we're not gonna do that" and look like big damn heroes for no effort at all or try for the more challenging "Well, we've been thinking about doing something like that, but would do it differently to try and better accomplish stuff" or just the ever-popular "no comment".

Comparisons and contrasts with competing and/or similar products are feedback, and having to beat around the bush makes it harder to convey that feedback and focus on doing so in a constructive manner.

Obviously, outright advertising other companies' products and services in your house is an entirely reasonable no-no, but this thread has basically been the opposite of that...

Considering how hard the F2P model is being pushed lately I am sure we will see a few epic failures, I expect in a year or so we'll have a counterexample much closer to home.

    Hurdle, Yum!

Will it even apply in Dwarf form? Right now, the only Inherent power that doesn't get removed for the forms is the base Kheldian inherent.
  17. Thanks for this guide! All my friends told me "No Jax, you do not want to try and level up a kheldian!" but the nova form totally made me want to try - yay flying squid of doom! And this guide really dras out the active-play synergies that are part of the power and potential of Warshades, so thanks for showing me how to make a good kheld.

Some people want to be able to outright imitate NPCs, but I'd wager that individual bits people are picking out are mostly items that they'd want to have available to mix generally into their visions.

    Exactly my point.

The specific design that acts as an identifier makes sense to be an unlock, but for the people who want sashes etc. available as generic costume bits, there should be generic costume bits of that type.

The problem is that if a costume bit is related to someone's vision of a character, it kinda sucks to spend most of that character's lifespan without it until they finally get access to it.

Having more showy versions of existing things as unlockables is good, but anything that is a basic kind of thing like 'toga' should have at least something at base creation.

I generally feel the same way about 'cape', but that unlock is integrated into the cultural mileu of the setting so as an RPer I'm more forgiving of that.

    I find b preferable to a.

d, selling things that are not powers, would be my absolute preferred choice. Well, no, b would personally be my preferred choice, but d would probably be a big deal to fewer people.

At least Paragon/NCsoft never said outright "we will not sell anything that has an effect on gameplay" (to my knowledge) and then put the boosters out, unlike Cryptic in STO.

Pretty much. I do appreciate that the boosters so far have all been pretty much niche things or elaboration on stuff that's already there, though Ninja Run as part of the MA booster makes me frown sometimes if I think too hard.

The 'jetpack for an extra $5 a month" would almost be crossing the line for me if the temp powers in the game didn't make it just a tax on extreme laziness, so it's hilarious instead.
