If the radeon 1200 series is lightyears ahead of what you were using before then you must have been using a vga card. The 1200 series is the absolute rock bottom of gaming viable chipsets. It should play less visually demanding games well enough but odds are that CoX is way beyond it's capabilities.
The specs given for compatibility with the game are very very seriously outdated. I think marketing just doesn't update the specs because they don't want to discourage people with low end systems from trying the game.
A couple of questions. Have you tried playing in safe mode?
And just out of curiosity what was the video card or chipset you had before? -
-
Almost certainly the two video cards in conflict. Get rid of the 8400gs. Or if you are using it so you can run dual monitors (though that is an odd way to do it) disable it while playing since CoX has problems with dual monitor setups.

I'm stuck being me. I want to be Positron instead.
Hmmmmm... I wonder what happens if a dev is first on the list. -
My two inf on the topic.
Personally I hate when people post in multiple colors because the great majority of the time it slows dowm my reading speed by a huge margin. I go from reading a sentence at a glance to reading each word individually. It does however give me great insite into why people who are slow readers generally hate reading. It's like watching a slidshow instead of a movie. I just generally skip past those messages.
Let's put it this way. You might think colors are cool and easy to read because you are the one who typed in the words in the first place so you know exactly what they say. However some people like me will experience a slow down when reading them. Other people won't be able to read them at all because due to differing levels of color blindness.
Second, on to grammar. People who are capable of using proper grammar and spelling and yet refuse to do so are annoying. Have you ever spoken with a person who mumbles? Yes they are usually understandable but when they say "I went to kmr yesay an ba sm nuw shs." don't you want to say to them "Speak up. Did you go to Kmart yesterday and buy new shoes or did you go to the Kmer Rouge and bah Sams Nishes?" Poor grammer and spelling are the text equivalent of mumbling. I will read those messages and don't really care that much personally unless the poster of those scrambled musings starts defending themselves by saying "So wut. If you no wut I ment then it dosnt make no difference." I tend to ignore them from that point on.
((Disclaimer: If a person has learning difficulties or the language being posted in is not their native one then it's a different matter entirely. In those cases it's like a speech defect or an accent and is usually quite recognizable.)) -
I have gotten virtually no reputation tags. However of those I have recieved the only minus ones were because I was being negative. Apparently the negativity police miss the irony that they are being negative themselves.

My guess is that the random number generator was getting it's seed from the numerical value of the character's name, or creation date and time, or something else unique to that character. For some characters this resulted in an extremely low drop rate. Since the same seed number was used each time the characters who got low drop rates would get them every time they relogged while those who got high or normal drop rates would get those.
Of course I realise the odds of this being the case are probably pretty close to zero but as long as folks are making random guesses I might as well too. Who knows, maybe I've got a good seed number. -
Quote:It's not a defeat all. You just have to defeat enough of the Fir Bolg that they can't complete their mission. This can be done solo either by roaming the area and killing any spawns you see or else guarding the gate. If you choose the roam and kill option you have to be fast as in a scrapper or blaster with no down time. If you guard the gate you have to have some area effect that can slow or damage the groups as a whole. If you don't damage them they will ignore you completely. Also if you stop them too close to the gate they count as escaped even if you manage to defeat them. It's not a defeat all, at least it wasn't the times I did it. Just make sure less than 30 Fir Bolg get to the henge.
I actually enjoyed that mission, because it was very different and required some creative strategy. And while I can see where some players might get confused, I think the mission briefing does give you a pretty good idea what you need to do.
It can be difficult to solo, though, if you don't have any holds. For once, the enemies don't want to fight, just run. First time I soloed that mission I thought my tank could stop them with taunt, but not much luck there. I failed and had to come back later with my ice blaster--much easier with holds and AOE damage and slows. I recall someone on this board boasting that they could solo it with any AT and complete with zero escapes, so I imagine it can be done. -
That's a problem with Hijackthis and 64 bit operating systems. Most likely nothing wrong with the install any virus involved.

Well that pretty much explains everything about AC. Those particular years in a persons life are the point where they suddenly realize that they know far more than their parents or for that matter almost everybody older than them. Where they realize that they are mature and wise far beyond their years and that if others can't see their wisdom then that ignorance needs to be browbeaten until enlightenment is achieved. In other words the teen years.
Next come the years where the person suddenly realizes that they don't know anything and that the casual effort that carried them through highschool will result in complete failure at college. Fortunately it looks like AC is already aware that distraction and approaching college courses as if they were no big deal could easily result in failure.
And of course the next step beyond that involves the realization that no matter how good you did in college it won't mean a thing in an interview unless you can charm the pants of the interviewer. And also that most executives really are like the pointy haired boss in Dilbert. -
I have a standard response when anybody tries to read my thoughts. And I apologize in advance because if you read this it's going to do the same thing to you that it does to them.
"My humps. My humps my humps my humps My lovely lady aaaaaargh, why won't you get out of my head you stupid song. Have to think of something else. Ummmmm badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger mushroom mushroom... NO! Not that either. It's a small world after all, it's a small world after all.... Somebody please kill me." -
I have 3 of the codes so far and I would still pay to have the others. Somewhat of a completionist in this department at least.
Now if anybody feels like giving me a Freak Tank, KOA, or Praetorian Clockwork code I would be more than happy to accept. -
The interesting thing is that criticism is in the eye of the beholder. Let's try the following. I'm going to make a suggestion that has shown up here before, show the typical responses, and comment on how the suggestors have responded.
Suggestion: I think we should be able to do a complete respec including changing your power sets. Say I play a stone tanker to level 20 and decide that it's just not for me. I think I should be able to respec it as an invuln tanker. I've already put a lot of time into the character so I don't want to just delete it and reroll.
Response 1: No. That idea would ruin the game.
Response 2: No because there is too much potential for abuse. There are many power sets that are weak in the beginning but overpowered in the end levels. Your example of stone tanker is one of these. A player could take advantage of this by playing another type of power set until they had worked their way past all the levels where a stone tank would struggle, and then respec into the stone. Or possibly even respec into fire in order to turn their damage absorbing tank into a damage dealing farming tank.
Response 3: I think this is a great idea. I just got MoG on my regen scrapper and it sucks. If I had known it was such a terrible power I would have rolled him as a SR instead.
I have seen people respond to comments that are exactly like the one above in multiple forms. Some will look at suggestion 1 and dismiss it (which they should because it contains no explanation). Then look at number 2 and respond "Oh, I hadn't thought of that. I guess it does open some sets up to abuse."
I've also seen people react to such responses by calling numbers 1 and 2 trolls who only get fun out of shooting down others ideas. And then state that responder number 3 is the only reasonable comment in the thread because it points out another problem that the suggestion could help with.
So like I said. Criticism is in the eye of the beholder. And I have yet to see a suggestion thread where more than one or two people are trolling or being negative just to be negative. Most often the outcry of abuse comes simply because some people are only looking for positive responses. If you can find a suggestion thread, any suggestion thread, where people dogpiled on the poster and were overtly hostile I would like to see it.
I'll admit that some suggestions will get an overwhelming negative response to an idea but that's often because it's an idea that nobody likes, not just because people like being negative. The /duel suggestion is one of these as pretty much any open pvp variation. It doesn't mean the forum base is attacking the poster. It's just that open pvp tends to be about as popular as removing all attacks except brawl so that nobody can have a better powerset than anybody else. -
Actually most of the problems I saw were with the suggesters rather than the suggestees. As was said before a few people regarded their suggestions as inviolate. They also seemed to believe that only the devs themselves had the right to point out any potential flaws in the suggestion. Their response to criticism was to immediately rail against the person who said they didn't like the it followed by stating at the top of their virtual lungs that only devs were allowed to comment on idea. Then they would report all messages in the thread that were against their idea.
Jranger was particularly good at getting these types riled with his one word reply of "no".
Now as to why a person should quote a message that was posted immediately before their response. Suppose this post is the last one you read in this thread today. Tomorrow you want to see why the thread has gone on for another 10 pages so you click the little triangle. The first message you see says "Yeah, that pretty much sums it up as I remember." or maybe "You are a complete and udder nincompoop and I can't believe are capable of forming a sentence and breating at the same time without that miniscule clump of nerve tissue you call a brain being overtaxed." Do you remember what that reply is to? If not then you have to scroll back. And if you do remember the last post (and likely you would since my posts are awe inspiring as I'm sure you've realized) then do you assume that the reply was to me or to somebody five posts up who was talking about something else?
Ok done rambling... I think. Let me check...
Yep, done for now. -
If it's resting on a lap there isn't enough air flow. Most of the heat is radiated through the sides and bottom. If it's resting on a table there still might not be enough air flow. Laptops are designed to dissipate heat from standard usage. CoX stresses the cpu and gpu far more than any other program I've seen. Yes more than Crysis and the other high end graphics games. Don't ask me why because I don't know. I just know that it does.
Get yourself a laptop cooling pad. They are generally around $25 or so. Even if the problem isn't overheating, a laptop cooling pad can add a couple years of life to a system. -
I'll be moving all my red siders to blue side. Not because of a morality disparity. Not because of feeling like a second class villain. Not because of lack of teams. But because Redside is just plain ugly. Nothing but shades of brown and grey with continually overcast skies. Clouds do not equal ominous. Muted colors do not equal evil. They both just equal bland and boring.

I figured it was something like that because of the way the W looked in mine. They use a really bad font for the codes.

Quote:I'll mention them. First you used to travel from zone to zone through the gates because you didn't realize that there were trains. When you tried to leave Atlas you couldn't understand why there were no intermediate zones but you went immediately from zones too low for you into zones way to high for you.Okay, you're a moron.
I'm kidding, it's an easy mistake to make, but you said I could, so I did. It's not very obvious that the newspaper Drea gave you IS your new contact. The previous two posters answered it pretty well though, so I don't have much to add.
Don't feel bad about not realizing it. I made some DUMB mistakes when I first started that I'm not even going to mention here (they'd pick on me if I did)
Then there were the times when you went into the exit side of the train and got mad because no matter how many times you clicked on the doors it wouldn't work.
And there was the time back when you absolutely first began and couldn't figure out where your mission was because you didn't know you had to click on a door to enter the mission (or building or train or whatever)
Just guessing but those are the three most common absolute beginner CoH mistakes. -
Words can't be trademarked. So a word like wolverine or archangel or hulk can not be trademarked. However if that same word is used as a name (IE Wolverine, Archangel, or Hulk) it can then be trademarked. Historical names can not be trademarked which is why CoX can get away with using Atlas. I'm still not sure why they can use Valkyrie since I believe Marvel was the first to use that as a comic book character name.
And although it is legal to create characters with names like Thor and Hercules it is trademark infringment if they are given both the name and the appearance of the comic book character. Since there is the possibility at any time for a person to change their costume and bio to resemble that of a trademarked character the GMs mostly prefer to err on the side of caution and generic based solely on the basis of a duplication or near duplication of name. -
Ok, even though this is basic beyond belief I'm going to walk through the steps just to make sure you've actually done each of them.
On the cityofheroes.com site log into your master account. Then click on Use a Serial code. There is also a link to the use a serial code function under specific game account upgrade options but I entered mine at the first use a serial code link and it worked.
Turn on your capslock key. The serial number shouldn't be case sensitive but I always turn on my capslock anyway just because it's easier to confirm the code if it exactly resembles the one on the card.
Enter the 20 character code into the serial number box. No spaces, no -, nothing but the continuous string of letters and numbers.
Click on continue and it should give you the option of what accounts it can be applied to.
I'm not trying to insult your intelligence here. I'm just telling you the exact steps I went through to activate my code. There are a lot of possible minor changes in the method that should make no difference like having capslock on or putting in the - character or applying the code through your specific game account. But since it worked for me and not for you it's possible that "should make no difference" is actually "does make a difference".
If you try to apply the code with exactly the method that I suggested and it doesn't work then there are two other possible things to try. One, you can send me a picture of the code and I can tell you if it looks like mine did. Or two you can PM Niviene or Posi or Pohsyb or whoever it was at the booth when you got your code and explain the problem and what steps you had to take to get the code when you visited the booth. Odds are you'll either have a new code PMed to you or just activated on your account. -
I'm concerned that none of the big MMOs will be able to keep their customers though. The Hello Kitty MMO was being handed out for free. And who wouldn't leave for a chance at playing Hello Kitty?
I hear that it's even being ported to the X-Box by Bungie. They are going to call it Halo Kitty. -

Quote:Just tried applying my own code and it worked fine. One thing that might be giving you a problem is that the letter W looks like a V with the bottom filled in. So if you think you have a V in your code try W. Also, when inputting the code don't put in the - between the groups. Just make it one long string of letters and numbers.I got my code today at the PAX booth, no matter what transmutation i try the serial code on the card I got for the PAX 2009 exclusive In-game Item isn't working.
... please help, and thank you!
FYI NCSoft's booth area was the best, seems like everyone else cut way back, there really wasn't as much to look at this year and WAY more people attended.
