So, if you plan to exemplar a lot, it's probably best to make an all around decent build with no holes, as opposed to making a build that pushes absolute max performance at 50, but is crippled by being way under-slotted for something (end usually, but also recharge, and damage happen a lot, too).
However, many caveats and exceptions to this rule, though.
And, just in case in needs to be said, keep in mind levels of IO sets and the set bonuses they give when building an 'exemplar' build. -

Quote:Actually, those are Global Effect IOs, which is a bit different than a Proc.Probably a question most of you guys understand already but I'm a bit lost...
I am trying to figure out how the Procs work in general. I mean if I have the 20% slow resistance in SJ for instance, will it only apply if I'm using super jump currently? Or does it just apply all the time? Same with like LoTG 7.5% recharge, if it's in a toggle is it only going to apply while the toggle is on? Or in a click, will it only apply when the power is used? They are a bit confusing to me. I just want to make sure I'm slotting these things in the right spot to make use of the bonus's.
Thanks for being patient with me.
It is always on, regardless of if the power is on. Unless you exempt more than three levels below the level of the IO. I will even work (assuming the IO is low enough) if you exempt below the level where you even have access to the power.
For example... You take SJ late in your build, say at lvl 49, and slot it with a lvl 49 slow resistance. It works fine at lvl 49, and at lvl 50, with SJ on or not. If you exempt to lvl 45, you lose you slow resistance (more than the unde the lvl 49 IO) but can still SJ, as you keep powers up to 5 levels under while exempted. YOu later decide that losing slow resistance is a pain, so you put in a lvl 12 IO in SJ. Now you can exempt to lvl 9, and while you would have lose SJ the power, you'd still have the slow resistance. At lvl 8 and under, you'd have neither.
Procs are IOs that have a certain chance to fire when the power is activated. That chance can occasionally be 100%, though, which leads to some of the confusion between procs and globals. So, for a proc to work, the power has to be available, and active (via an always on power or a toggle power toggled 'on' or the power has to be clicked and it'll last for a given time after the click). Obviously, if you exempt below the level of the power, you lose the benefit of the proc, too. But, procs levels don't matter. If you put a lvl 50 proc in a power you selected at lvl 8, it'll work the same at lvl 50, and it would exempted to lvl 5. AS long as you still have the power, the proc works the same. -
Quote:Very glad to hear it was resolved. And extra happy to hear that it was, all-in-all, a positive experience, and not a great big PITA.Thanks for the help guys.
I called the phone number, and it is apparently only being used for disputed charges.
So, I logged into the Live Chat.
After a little explaining (Lucy!), the GM escalated me to the next level.
Someone ahead of me must've had a doozie of a problem, 'cause it was a considerable wait.
But it was worth it.
After I explained that they had simply beat me to the punch on the charge, he graciously waited online for me to re-sub, and added the extra month manually.
Kudos to both reps who helped me today.

Dang. Almost sorry I missed the fireworks. And I sorta wonder what got him so worked up.
Back OT: I know nothing about the glowing eyes... -
While Brutes do have the same Resit Cap as tanks, I'm pretty sure that isn't true for Scrappers or Stalkers.
Not that that makes any difference. The point that a tank will have an easier time with survivability that the brute in some situtions based on his different numbers is still correct, regardless. It won't come up often, but it is still true. -
Very tough build. In general it looks very good. I do have a few nitpicks, tho.
1) Several attacks with a pretty low acc. Not horrible low, but low enough that you'll be unhappy vs +level enemies, or vs incarnate enemies, or if you ever get tohit debuffed.
It might be not too bad, but you have only a +7% Acc from your one Crushing Impact set. That's not going to be a big help, and it won't be any at lvl 46 and under. You even skipped Focused Chi, of you can't even occasionally push your odds all the way up. However, Vigor makes this problem go away except when exempting, and it's hard to go wrong with Vigor on a WP alt. But you went Musculature (not a bad choice at all, really, if you solve your acc issue somehow).
2) You have 3 slots spend in RttC to up the tohit debuff. I think that's to much. It net's ya about an extra 1.5% deduffing. You are right ont eh edge of capped anyone, so the extra 1.5% above the 3.75% base is not doing anything most of the time. And when you might need it most, vs some AVs, they'll likely ignore it anyhow.. I'd use the slots elsewhere.
3) I'd skip Spring Attack unless you just want it for the theme of it. It does about 2/3 the damage of Dragon's Tail, and yet takes about 7 times as long to recharge. You'd be served in damage output but dropping it, and taking Assault, to push more damage out via the 6 or 7 Dragon's Tail Attacks that come between Springs, and use all those slots elsewhere.
That said, theme-wise, spring attack suits this combo, so if that's why it's there, it's certainly not breaking the build.
Only those 3 things stand out to me as being worth commenting on, and only the first one is any real concern. I think #2 and #3 are areaou could improve on, but it was my build, I'd not bother respecing just to change either of those. -
I agree with typed working better for WP almost across the board, but for BS, not as much. You can ignore S/L a lot more.
I think I'd build a good base defense, then try to push E/N and Ranged with the sets. Energy is often also ranged, and most Ranged S/L happens to be Lethal more than Smashing. Parry Pushes Melee and Lethal. So, if you get a decent base, and only cap lethal and melee you're going to be good a lot of times. If sets also push e/n and Ranged, you'll be even better.
Smart play fixes most of the rest. Close with the few ranged based smashers, putting them into melee (or just kill em 1st). Most AOE won't be too bad, as it's oftenweaker damage wise, and you'll be regenning like mad if you're in a crowd. If you're not in a crowd, close with the AOEers. And a lot of the most scary AOE for most folks is the Psy AoE, which WP laughs at.
Couldn't find my build, but I threw something together fairly quick. It's expensive, but certainly not as expensive as a lot of builds you'll see on the forums...
But, as ElDorado has said, and I'm paraphrasing here, there are many viable builds. A more traditional s/l/e/n is also very doable. I just prefer not to because that loses a lot of the benefit of parry.
This is jsut an example of how you could build that way. I'm sure it can be improved, and I KNOW you can make a very viable WP using serveral other build strategies.
The basics are, for any WP Build, lots of regen and +Max HP, and then also other stuff on defense. And that usually mean 'Defense' much more than Resistance. Do those things, and you'll be solid.

Even though he's got a Kismet +6% accuracy?
I like to run at higher difficulties, and I've therefore become a big fan of Body Mastery and Focused Accuracy on my scrappers, with a Gaussian's set for the defense bonuses, and a Perf Shifter proc in Physical Perfection to ensure that I've got enough endurance to leave FA running all the time. Unfortunately, that's not going to work for MindfulFool's fire concept and Blaze Mastery. *shrug*
Quote:Yeah, a couple slots here or there is one thing -- six slots IS a bit excessive in my book, too. The great thing about this game is that there's a LOT of ways to build a really good mousetrap, and it just seems to me that there's often a way to avoid wasting those slots and still achieving the same goals.
Totally agree on Body Mastery for FA (which also provides tohit debuff protection or top of the other good stuff), on the Gaussians, on Phys Per, and the extra Perf Shifter Proc. But, I can see wanting to do a different concept, too, so.
And I totally agree about there being a lot of differnt avenues you can go down and end up with a great build. But regardless, I think he's gonna want to do something to get that extra Accuracy. Maybe change some sets to a few more IO sets that also provide Acc bonuses would work, if you don't want to exemplar much. Or Nerve, but that also has the problem with exemplaring. Maybe those extra slots from the on set mule can be added into some of those attacks. For the PBAOE attacks a Acc/End from Multi-Stike or the Acc/Recharge from Cleaving Blow might be nice. Or a Nuc Hami-O. Nuc Hamis would also be my choice for the melee sets with Kin Combats in them.
Well, as has been said, lots of ways you can go with it. -
I did. She rocks. Definitely a favorite of mine. I'll try and see if I can find her build and post it for you..
But, the basics are.... Parry. Use it, master it, love it. Then push your regen and max HP as far as you can. Get solid base def all around, and you'll be stupid tough. -
I think with that build, you will want to go Nerve Alpha. You'll desperately need the added accuracy. Especially if you ever run at above even con diff, or if you plan to try to use the combos ever, or if you hope to do incarnate content.
I didn't look at Eldorado's build, but I'd agree with all of his suggestions and points, though.
Edit: Well, except for the set mule thing bothers me a bit less then it does him. However, I think I wouldn't push it as far as you have by using Boxing AND Brawl. Now you're talking 6 slots used up on powers you will never use. That's getting a bit excessive. -
Dark/ for trollers is pretty low on the damage scale, from what I've seen from y experience, and what I've heard others say when they've related their experience, too. That said, mostly, ALL troller primaries are pretty low in damage, especially pre-pets, so.... Either way, a heavy damage secondary like storm is usually a great choice to help offset low damage.
I'm looking at mid's and don't see and -KB in the hold, and can't tell about the hold field, but the immobilizes do have some nice -kb.
This can be good and bad, but is something you should be aware of with storm. Anything immobiled will be gale pointless, but I find gale mostly pointless anyhow. If you make a storm troller, tho (or a Corr) you're stuck with it, sadly.
The -KB will lose ya the falling down mitigation that Freezing Rain provides, but it also locks them in the debuff patch, and Lightning Storm won't blast them off the debuffs, either. And that's nice.
Other than that, and the Thunderclap/Heart of Darkness ability to stack, I don't see a lot of synergy between Dark/ and /Storm for trollers. And I don't think I'd personally want two PBAOE Stuns.
If you're leaning troller, and you're aware of and willing to work around some endurance issues, I'd strongly lean Fire/Storm myself. -
Quote:For most sets it makes it very close except vs AVs, GMs, and some strong Bosses, where scourge really comes into it's own.I dont know how the #s play out against each other, but Defs get that +30% damage buff when solo now as well.
Does it compete with Scourge? Im not sure...
That said, the OP asked which will be more durable for this specific combo. The defender. By a fair margin. Bigger values in all Def and Resistance powers (CJ, Weave, Tough, and any Epics, too). Pus the -dam debuffs in kinetics are all bigger values for a defender. And, you'll have access to the defensive powers in Kinetics sooner (not Kinetics is the best solo defensive set, but what it has a defender will get sooner).
But, since elec is a fairly under performing offensive set, I'd lean to making this one as Corr, you'll need all the help you can get, because killing will be slow solo, especially early.
In truth, though, I'd avoid this combo as a Corr or a Def for solo play. Kin is a weaker defensive set, but makes up for it by being a great force multiplier. But elec brings the smallest starting value to multiply. And solo, you don't get extra benefit of teammates to also enjoy the multiplier, so..... *shrug*
I love support sets in general, and love to try new things or to defy conventional wisdom, probably more than most people, but I can't imagine wanting to ever play this combo. I'd say maybe go elec/rad or Rad/Elec and colour rad differently, and you'll pick up AMs damage buff to help pre FS, and get a good solo defensive sets of debuffs early to help with survival. Or maybe make some form of elec blaster. I hate blasters, and would almost never suggest a blaster over a def and a corr, but in this case....
Actually, not sure your exact concept, but maybe an Elec/Elec or an Elec/Energy or an Elec/Psi Dom might be your best bet.
If you do go with this combo, though....
1) Good luck..
2) Everything EnigmaBlack said..... -
Quote:I am trying to avoid bagging on NR, as this thread isn't about that. I felt it best to just say that I (and other people) don't like the animations, and acknowledge that some people do like them, and some people don't have much preference either way, or dislike it a bit, but not enough to give it's it's obviously great performance. Therefore a set of alternative animations, or a separately available (for sale even) clone that has more natural animations would be the ideal solution. The NR fans are happy. The people that dislike it are happy. People that don't care much that already have bought NR keep it and don't have to spend more money, the people that haven't can pick the one that they find most aesthetically pleasing, and CoX makes more money to support the game due to people like Socorro and myself.NR fits perfectly with Stalkers, and I don't know what you guys hate, but the animations are great, especially if your character has weapon-based power sets. By far, the best travel animations in the game, IMO. Super Speed looks so damn plain, doesn't even feel like you're actually moving at super speeds. Maybe if they added the shadow effect like in Dual Pistols, it might look cooler.
As for SJ, maybe a idle crouched position might make more sense, as in having a character that is always ready for the next leap everytime he/she lands.
Hmmm.....
If someone wanted to create a new thread about NRs animations, I might weigh in there with my opinion on everything I feel about NR, but here isn't the place for debating it, in my opinion.
Edit: Actually, no, on second thought, I wouldn't. It's a matter of aesthetics. To paraphrase Synesence, I don't know what you guys could possibly like, but the animations are really bad. In my opinion. This is clearly a topic that can't really be debated. Those that like it, seem to do so genuinely, but can't possibly explain why. Those that don't, apparently can't explain why to those that like it either. I think it seems obvious why it looks silly (to me), and I'm sure those that like it think that the appeal is obvious (at least to them it is). Seriously, it really can't be logically. No evidence can be presented to support either sides position, so I'd not want to get into it.
The only thing on this topic that can be discussed is if there is any value to an alternative set of animations, either built into the same power, or (my preference) a separate power with identical mechanical benefits but a different, more natural looking, set of animations. This can at least be debated. And I'd say there are advantages to it, and no serious drawbacks to having an alternative, so this seems a no-brainer to me. -
Grav/Storm was also a lot of fun, and that was before Grav got it's recent buffs.
If you want to stay with a corr, Archery/Storm is a very fun combo. FR and RoA is a fun combo...
And, truthfully, Ice is very nice, too, after it develops some. If it's the feel/animation, though that makes it a deal breaker for ya tho, I'd look at a weapon set. Archery would be my first choice. -
Quote:Well, not guaranteed, but if you've run into Council much before the Moonfire, it is the safer way to bet.Moonfire's TF is guaranteed to give you the Silver Bullet (for warwolves) and Slayer (for vampires) badges, usually by the end of the second mission. Both of those are requirements for the Atlas Medallion.
You can speed up visiting plaques for the history badges by binding the /loc command to a key (I usually bind it to my L key, because it makes sense and it's out of the way). Having it bound lets you frequently check your location on the map's grid coordinates as you travel, letting you zero in on each plaque location quickly.
What seem to be the most time-consuming badges to earn are Unveiler (for Fake Nemesis) and Illusionist (for Master Illusionist decoys). Peregrine Island is a great choice to farm both, the Fakers along the docks close to Ghost Falcon and the MI decoys along the little park/beach a bit more north/northeast.
And Moonfire is SO fun! I'd fully endorse this TF.
I find tip missions usually supply plenty of MI Decoys now. And prefer to get my Fakes in the shadow shards 'Zulu' (where you can also hunt PPs and Overseers at the same time). That said, I wonder if the redside versions of these accolades might not be an easier route, though. -
Quote:I'm very sorry. I didn't explain myself very well, it seems.lol... It wouldn't do me any good to try and address it through M/C, since I'm not exactly disputing a charge, but am rather inquiring what I will be getting for the next charge.
In other words, "Here! I have money! But please tell me what I'll be getting for it."
Really, it's that simple.
.
In order for any company to be able to process a credit card, they must have a vendor account with that credit card company. It's fairly critical for most businesses that do a large percentage of their business via cards that the credit card companies be able to contact them if there is any problems. This is not limited to customer's disputing a charge. The business that takes the cards will want to ensure than things go smoothly on this front, as failure to do so may mean a lot more than missing one payment, it might mean missing ALL payments from that card company. IE, if VISA wanted to call 'Small Business X' and say that there is some weird problem with business X's account, and business X didn't answer the phone, they might not get hundreds of billings processed in a timely manner.
Now, Biz X might not hand out phone numbers to customers, but the credit card companies they deal with almost guaranteed have a way to reach someone in Biz X's billing department.
The upshot of this is, if you can't get a company you do credit card business with on the phone for some reason, the credit cards companies, who work for you, too, are often willing to use their contact options for you (they might not give out their numbers, but then again, they might) but at the very least they are usually quite willing to help 2 of their customers that they can verify already have business dealings with each other by acting as an intermediary for the purposes of putting these two groups in touch with each other. If you are honest with the card company, and tell them that you are not disputing anything, but have a billing related question, but can't seem to get someone on the phone, then there should be no problem.
I'm not saying that you will have to resort to this with NCSoft since Texas has provided a number for them.. I'm certainly not suggesting it as a first step. But if you can't get emails answered, and can't get a live person on the phone who deals with billing issues, at ANY company, and you have done credit card business with them, going to the card company is an option, and does not require a dispute to make use of this resource.
Hope that clarifies things a bit. -
I think you are very correct, _eeek_ and that many people forget that. Playstyle will drive a lot of choices as much as anything else. And subtle differences in slotting that you might have made to accommodate your play style that I'd not have done, etc, etc can further drive a different choice.
I'd say your final choice is the right one. Get your build IOed and collect shards while you do. Once your IOing is mostly finished, see what you really wish you had more of. Alpha for that. Then your choice will fit your build and style. If you still have needs/wants, get that through the other Incarnate Abilities.
That said however, some things are easier to get with some slots than others. Interface can help with damage or survivability, but outside of ending fights faster, can't help much with end management, for example. You can fill a lot of holes with Destiny, but usually not many at once. So it might behoove you to look at the other Incarnate slots and abilities and think about what you'll take there, too, before you settle on a final alpha choice.
Quote:Thank you all so much for your responses!
Honestly, I am relieved to see that there are a wide variety of preferences going on. I think a lot more of the game is about playstyles than it is about builds, even though we tend to talk about builds alone. I know I have a few characters (whom I think are rather effective) who are not played at all as others having the same powerset, and near-identical power selections - I bet you guys do, too.
I took notes on all the feedback, and am going to let it all simmer in the back of my mind until I have enough shards to actually take the plunge - I figure by that time, having the information you so kindly supplied, the best choice for each will be obvious (Though Spiritual may well win out for most of them).
Thank you again for taking the time to post, it is really, really appreciated! -
Fair enough. I don't think it as likely, personally, as being struck by lightning. But I can't show ya numbers, obviously.
But...
One thing people in billing in all companies tend to have in common, throughout the world, is that getting money trumps telling people we never want you money again. And one thing talking to a rep from a company that controls a good deal of your revenue stream tends to do is focus your attention a bit more than it might be focused when dealing with an 'ordinary' customer. These two factors combined to make think this was good advice for the OP, and I still do. Assuming a direct phone call doesn't do the trick, or can't be achieved for some reason, like I said before.
That said, I guess it is, at least a very slim chance, if nothing else, and the OP has to weigh their perceived risks vs. rewards and make their own call. -
Quote:I don't think I ever stated anywhere for it to be tried during hours when they were closed. I considered it pretty obvious that you should try to contact them during hours when they have people in the office. I'll admit, though, that I didn't spell that out directly. Perhaps foolish of me, but I generally give people some benefit of the doubt on the common sense front.Since billing and account support are only available during the times I listed above, it would be rather useless to contact the credit card company to try to have them conference in NCSoft account support. Also, they may flag it as a dispute and cause the account to get perma-banned or the NCSoft people they contact may mistakenly assume it's being handled as a disputed charge and perma-ban the account. We don't want that happening here. We've already lost one hottie on Justice due to that.
And, again, perhaps foolish of me, but I've had generally good experience with NCSoft, so I'd not assume that they flag it as a dispute, unless you actually told the card company you were disputing the charge, or something of that nature. Which again isn't what I advised, or even implied. I just implied that you utilize them as a resource. I'd give NCSoft the benefit of the doubt that they'd not go all irrational and tell someone trying to give them money that their business isn't welcome anymore for no good reason. And I also was giving the OP the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn't take my advice and then add liberal amounts of embellishments.
It's sad that people think so little of their fellow forumites common sense, and of NCSofts business practices that this is the default position of some people.
@OP, regardless, I hope you get it resolved. -
Much shorter time to use in regular combat, but not as much damage as a full assassination attack from hidden. But still very respectable damage. It's a great attack for in melee now, on top of being the best sneak attack option.
-
Edit: Well, the below is largely irrelevant if the number Texas has still works. I hope it does, but in case it doesn't I'll leave up what I started typing before he totally scooped me with better info than I had.
Double Edit: I doubt I'd try hitting up via PMs the Devs, and Brand Managers, and PR types, and Programmers, and Story Writers, etc for a billing issue, but I could be wrong. Also, one of the folks Texas mentioned might actually be a billing type person, but I don't think so.
I don't recall ever seeing a number. That said, I haven't really ever looked for one.
As I can see, you have 2 options if you want to talk to them directly, as opposed to via email, and can't find a number.
1) Send in a ticket int he normal fashion, with your contact info (and best time) and the info that you with to discuss in live, real time, a credit card/billing issue. Make sure to give a little lead time, as it'll have to bounce around a bit between GM and techs before it ends up in the laps of a billing type, most likely.
2) Call your credit card company, and have them contact NCSoft, or whomever the billing shows up through. VISA or whomever has to have contact info from any company running their cards so that they can inform the companies in cases of a dispute of some sort (and probably for other reasons, too, but disputes happened to spring to mind, first). Not saying NCSoft is one of them, but many companies may not want to have to talk to their costumers, but they don't dare ignore VISA or MASTERCARD, or any of the other biggie credit card groups for fear of losing the ability to accept payment via that vector. It's very possible that whomever you speak with at your CC company will be able to 3way call in NCSoft with you on the line so that you can discuss your issue with a witness/moderator right there.
Personally, I'd do #1 first, then #2. I'd always give a company a chance to provide the proper type of service a billing issue demands. -
I'd do scrapper then on this combo.. No need to ramp up fury, so full damage from the get go. More damage from the shield aura. Crits are good. Shield doesn't have a damage aura thus one big advantage of Fury isn't there for this combo.
Just my opinion. -

I love the theme, so I'm almost certainly going to give this set a try. That said, for it to be what sounds like mostly healing doesn't have me very excited.
Several sets do healing plenty well as is.
But, I guess it depends on the other buffs and the debuffs available.
I'll for sure play it, so it'll get a fair shake, but I'd be a LOT more excited if it was a mostly debuff set with some heals and buffs chucked in. Sorta like time. I don't want a time clone, but that sort of mix to me makes the most fun and interesting powerset.
