Kin/Elec Def vs. Elec/Kin Corr for mostly soloing

Pretty much what the title says. I mostly play solo, so I'm wondering which will be more durable (less likely to faceplant often). I played a kin/elec def to mid-20s a long time ago, and I seem to recall that the -end effect can be a semi-effective means of control. Is the extra damage from Scourge worth the reduced -end on a corruptor, or will it mean faceplanting more often? How do the ATs compare with the same powersets?

I've got a character concept that goes with these powersets, so I'm looking for opinions from people who have played them before to help me decide which way to go.

Thanks!

My opinion for soloing would be to stay away from Elec, but since you want a Elec and Kin I'd suggest going Corruptor.

Endurance drain in PvE is overrated IMO. I have a 50 Kin/Elec defender built around endurance drain. I found out the hard way that bad guys don't really need much Endurance to attack and they also recover endurance pretty quickly.

If I had the patience to redo that toon I'd either make him a Corruptor or keep him as a defender but slot him mostly for damage and focus my bonuses on defense. I'd also get rid of all the endurance enhancements except for the 10% chance for disorient.

Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

I'd go cor. Scourge with the end drains +siphon power and once you get FS things will be that much better. I ran a Kin/Elec def a bit ago (before the changes to vigilance) and other than his concept, costume with tech wings, he was a bit of a bore to solo.

I dont know how the #s play out against each other, but Defs get that +30% damage buff when solo now as well.
Does it compete with Scourge? Im not sure...

For most sets it makes it very close except vs AVs, GMs, and some strong Bosses, where scourge really comes into it's own.

That said, the OP asked which will be more durable for this specific combo. The defender. By a fair margin. Bigger values in all Def and Resistance powers (CJ, Weave, Tough, and any Epics, too). Pus the -dam debuffs in kinetics are all bigger values for a defender. And, you'll have access to the defensive powers in Kinetics sooner (not Kinetics is the best solo defensive set, but what it has a defender will get sooner).

But, since elec is a fairly under performing offensive set, I'd lean to making this one as Corr, you'll need all the help you can get, because killing will be slow solo, especially early.

In truth, though, I'd avoid this combo as a Corr or a Def for solo play. Kin is a weaker defensive set, but makes up for it by being a great force multiplier. But elec brings the smallest starting value to multiply. And solo, you don't get extra benefit of teammates to also enjoy the multiplier, so..... *shrug*

I love support sets in general, and love to try new things or to defy conventional wisdom, probably more than most people, but I can't imagine wanting to ever play this combo. I'd say maybe go elec/rad or Rad/Elec and colour rad differently, and you'll pick up AMs damage buff to help pre FS, and get a good solo defensive sets of debuffs early to help with survival. Or maybe make some form of elec blaster. I hate blasters, and would almost never suggest a blaster over a def and a corr, but in this case....

Actually, not sure your exact concept, but maybe an Elec/Elec or an Elec/Energy or an Elec/Psi Dom might be your best bet.

If you do go with this combo, though....
1) Good luck..
2) Everything EnigmaBlack said.....

Thanks for the feedback!

I've been re-evaluating this character concept. I definitely want Kinetics (I'm going to fill in the "holes" with pool powers; fighting and the +dmg from leadership), but I might switch to rad for the blast set, or something similar. It's definitely got to be a blast set that can be passed off as some sort of energy projectiles, although I'm not sure about energy blast because Kins tend to like to be at closer range IIRC.

Suggestions will be appreciated.

I really like Kin/Elec. Unless you choose Fire, Ice, or Psi the loss of a tier 3 blast is not very meaningful, since the other tier 3s have longer animation times. Since you will be switching between Kinetics and blasts frequently, Lightning Bolt, Charged Bolts, and Ball Lightning are not any worse a chain than most other sets can muster. Short Circuit hurts the damage output, but allows you to lock whole spawns down. For both defenders and corruptors, many enemies will live long enough for the end drain to be meaningful.

If you can handle the resummon, Voltaic Sentinel is a good power (but very annoying to use, IMO).

Rad is a nice set, but I prefer the control Electric brings plus I like getting the AoEs early. Fire is great damage, but I prefer the control Electric brings. Sonic is always good, especially on a defender, but I prefer the AoEs of Electric for Kin.

I prefer the defender; getting Transference at 26 instead of 35 matters to me on top of the better values you can get from personal shields. That said, scourge is a very strong ability vs. the hard targets and the defender damage buff from Vigilance is decent early, but post Fulcrum Shift it will be much less useful and the higher base damage of a corruptor will be much more useful.

Neither AT has the fastest kill speed in the game (the slowest as a matter of fact, although Kin helps).

I do not know if you like to turn your difficulty up or play at base, but you should be able to use the following two videos as a reference. Smaller spawns would be easier to manage and go faster.

Level 26 with mostly level 15 Common IOs

Level 50 Incarnate, IO defense build
