Stamina can be skipped on any build, most veterans understand the combat flow and correct attack chains in order to stay in battle. Obviously taking insps is a must with no stam, but it's not impossible. I would only recommend it on end heavy builds like SR. Having three toggles running is very taxing even with IO's. Also anything that tanks takes it, but thats been the Golden Age rule since beta.
Lastly, for long tf runs it might be annoying but Scrappers never really have problems on that end. Of course without stam your dps will drop. I would say its only needed for very long battles....like this one ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDeiiX_ODpE -
It's safe to say both are late bloomers, though one requires only different teammates, while the other requires the same AT as itself, redundancy fail?....no Veats in big teams, yield the best damage output.
On the other eye, Khelds have the ability to tank and blast with ease . Also PB's can heal other Tmates (I've seen it). A small semantical note, but every little bit counts.
Best advice; Get passed L24 (seriously it gets better)
Worst advice; delete your Veat and ignore the class forever.
MMORPG advice; Play a Celestial? (see Champions Online) -
A "gung ho" Defender, sounds more like a scrapper with heal other. Honestly, the mechanic, rather the strategy for most (exlcuding bubblers and Rads) Def's is to hide behind the "big guy" (be it Tank or Scrap) and heal/buff/debuff/blast. If you wish to play like a scrapper or tank, then make one...
Or heres a wild suggestion, play as if you are the squishy class that you happened to create, I know weird right?. I mean, can you really expect me to not be snarky when you brush aside the two valid suggestions at the very beginning of this thread?.
Carry Insps, if you don't have a contact who sells you any by now, theres no saving you. But honestly, break frees have never failed my, troller and blasters.
Conclusion: Take some Inspiration <----best advice for a defender.
Don't describe your defender as, "gung-ho", unless said defender is a Bubbler or Rad. If so, see above advice. <----Best advice from a veteran. -
For me, I enjoy the now floor punch animation in what was foot stomp. Adds more to the Herculean feel. Is it synergy 5000?, nah, but it feels good, the set feels ever so powerful. I'm not a min/maxer, so I'm usually listened to second. But honestly, I feel very powerful when thundering fists with my elec shield on. Theres just something so awe inspiring in the build.
Besides that, its like a fire/SS build, spam KO blow, and foot stomp. I love it regardless(I'm so biased). -
lol I've missed Aett, as much as we both battle each other like decepticon and Autobot, the guy is alright. It's that Dawn lady you have to watch out for...
-
Thats why shes on my list of Superhoneys to take to the D. Warwitch sees through my charm every time...I don't hate her for it.

Besides trying my hand at asking SilentZoe for a date , I too have used Flight in my builds, mostly because like many, I' am a Superman Supporter, plus I enjoy it on theme builds. Of course my first flyer was an Invul/Enrg, so nothing really stopped me from doing every move while hovering.
I miss Sarrate. -
Dsorrow pretty much nailed it....oooooooh kitty!
-
I'll ask Kruuunch if he ever gets off Champions...seeing how he is already in RP mode, expect a late response....really late.
From my perspective, I live more with my EA/Fire tank (taunt included) in the later levels, than I do with my Fire/Stone. I just hate being wrong about an armor I always hated, but it survives harder than my fire (No IO's). I miss Dersk... -
Take taunt, the ladies will love you for it, and the men will envy you're glow of after battle. Seriously, if you don't get some numbers taunting you either need to work out more, or hit the D and buy some Super Honeys some drinks.

I actually have a Pain/Elec corr designed for healing, of course with dual builds it isn't an issue of should I be healing, but rather, if the team needs a healer. Everything redside is offensive, so it's actually rare to see an all heal Corr. Again, I understand that the guy was fishing for compliments, but it's no different than a tank or Brute boasting about their durability.
To each his own and all that, really if bothers you that much, just kick him, or tell him to leave. -
Take taunt, you chose a tank for a reason. I'm sure you could have made a scrapper but you didn't. Many will chime in with the infamous "we don't need it, my aura does..." and so on and so on. But honestly, an insta taunt every 4-6 seconds is extremely valuable. I'm all for auras (have a lvl 50 fire/fire) but even then I took taunt.
I'm not a min/maxer I don't enjoy skipping powers just to either do more dmg or act like everyone else because of minor details. I also took unstopp on my lvl 50 invul and use it whenever needed. The crash is easily monitored with either a stop watch (the days before hero planner) or Hero Planner ( which adds CD timer to the upper right corner).
If you still can't manage Unstopp then you either need more practice or switch to another safer tier 9. (Strength of Will). I take taunt as early as possible(lvl10) as I'm more of a dmg sponge than a dmg outlet, so I build mostly around defending and taking damage. I also like tight mobs of death balls.
Plus women are naturally attracted to the taunting voice, a mating call, so to speak. -
Take it from a guy who has rolled an Invul/Enrg since issue 3, I've never had a hard time tanking or dealing out damage. Then again you're taking advice from a person (Heraclea) who said that any attack that takes more than 3 seconds is gimped. To which she was corrected by the simple fact that every attack in the Enrg set is 3 seconds or less.
Clearly; he who lacks experience will always say foolish things, as so often is the case. Regardless, you could run with me on any TF and I could show you how easy it is for me to tank and attack with EM.
Two things to remember ; "Your attacks aren't end heavy, you're end heavy", and "Any set can tank"
Your strength is in the slotting, as usual take tough and weave, and slot accordingly. Also the player guides should help. -
Ninjutsu is pretty much SR with a heal, so the idea would be redundant, then again WP is Invul with a mixture of Regen. Each of course grabbing onto certain moves from other familiar sets. Maybe a Steel primary for tanks.
-
When it comes to durability, my invul is easy to step up to the plate, but my Stone/SS would easily take over with but one toggle...with just SO's. In an age where everyone is IO crazed, I would go with a Stone (full IO set of preference). WP is for those who don't wish to look like a Golem. I myself don't mind, but if you prefer style over substance ( I use that loosely) go with WP, or even Invul . Keep in mind that with both, tough and weave combo is usually required for capping Dmg res.
-
Quote:Less survivability than Fire?(SO). Energize helped with absorbing most of the alpha's I received in every group. The regen rate also helped with longer battles. With hasten and Lightning Reflexes, I had Energize coming up about , every minute or so. With Tough and charged armor(slotted) I had my lethal and smashing res at 75%, not bad with just SO's. I don't know about squishy, but I had no problem running mine on a 7 person team.I found Electric Armor to be pretty squishy during closed beta operating on SO enhancements; it had considerably lower survivability than any other tanker primary I've played. I was toying with a build to punch S/L defense into the 40% range in Mids but on SO's it definitely had at best scrapper level durability. That was with all resist powers slotted to ED cap and Tough.
My level-bumped tank was Elec/SS... the KD in SS helped some but it wasn't enough to survive more than about 5 seconds against an 8 man spawn of +2 carnies. It was some better against 8 man/+2 Council but still went down in about 15 seconds. With enough IO defense bonuses I can see it being fairly potent but out of the box I wasn't impressed.
I was hoping it would have decent survivability because there's a lot of nice stuff in the primary and lots of utility but it's just too squishy to be a main tank on a big team.
Secondly, on my brute I usually have to grab heal self, but with energize I noticed life as an Elec tank becomes very comfortable. -
Quote:Simple? Invulnerability. Like Willpower and Shields, it prefers being in the middle of massive mobs, but unlike WP, it bulks up on S/L res to make getting there easier.
I will further recommend /Stone, or /DM as a secondary. Stone Melee is very smashy and offers great mitigation. Dark Melee, paired with Inv, is nothing short of spectacular.
Simple? maybe, but no more simple than Granite, One toggle = maximum res and def. Kinda respresents the simplest tanking possible. -
Quote:As much as I love invul (I even have it in CO) , the survival king, would be Granite, you need tough and weave to maximize the res and def on an invul. So without tough or weave needed, Granite would be the easiest tank to run to 50 with. What is the best simple tank?
I generally play Scrappers (or defenders, controllers & blasters) in melee, but have wanted a good tank for a while. Especially recently when the quality of tanks seems to have dropped through the floor. "No really a tank is supposed to hold agro and not work like an underpowered scrapper."
I'm looking for a tank that doesn't need expensive sets to be good, has good survivability in most situations, I won't be tanking Hami ever, would be a good tank for the high level TFs (especially STF, ITF & 5TF).
Less bothered about secondary as I'll either pick something that synergises well or SS which I quite like.
I already have a DA/DM tank (at ~level 25) but now I read that they aren't actually very good as tanks...
No Io's = Granite -
Quote:My friend has a 44 golem with pom poms, he does well in tanking , that much is easy with whirling hands and mud pots combo. Besides the obvious, what do you define as "effective", doing the most dmg isn't exactly top priority for a Golem tanker. My best advice for exemping down would be; to take Rock Armor, Stone Skin and use a tough and weave combo, it's easily done know with Dual builds. But it's the best for exemping down to the low levels.Hey all. I recently made a stone tanker and am about to respec him at 39. My brother leveled him for me while I was gone and says with a good respec he should be ready to play.
Thing is, I cant' find any good guides for Stone/NRG that aren't all based on the super IO combo sets that I can't afford unless I want to buy influence from Gogara or whatever they are.
Is there a recent stone/nrg guide that could give me a better idea of how to go about this?
I want to be able to Exemp down with him, or Uro with him and not die, but I also want to be an effective tank. Can anyone offer a good solid build that doesn't rely utterly on IO bonuses to offset how poorly engineered the powerset is?
I greatly greatly appreciate any help you guys could offer.
Energy is strong all by itself without the -Dmg from Granite. Besides using the typical build at low levels (Stam, Aoe Taunt, Heal) it's all pretty much straight forward. -
It has knockdown, which is convenient; One Thousand Cuts, Power Slice, Typhoon's Edge, make the sweep combo. The only annoying bit would be waiting till lvl 38(OTC) in order to start sweeping foes. Besides that it's all pretty straight foward.

Quote:I feel that the biggest mistake was giving them the pseudo Leadership power(I use pseudo loosely) which are pretty much the main dish till lvl 24, and even then you're going to grab one of them. The Stamina inherent is nice, but it isn't felt. Especially when you start off running atleast three toggles.Okay yeah I know a lot of people like these new SoA's but I find them a little boring.
I expected something a little more... interesting, you know with like different powers and stuff.
On the blue side theres two freakin completely new types of powers to play with and a whole mess of stuff to choose from, but then you come to the red side, work all night and day to get to 50, make a Crab, Bane or Huntsman or whatever and you start to see you're handling the same weapons and pretty much the same powers you did with other toons.
I understand that the archetypes follow a story and the damage and stuffs alright, but still the backpack shouldn't use the same weapons that a Wolf Spider would use and it shouldn't use bullets... at all. It should be strictly limited to energy attacks and the grenades should be changed slightly. And the omega maneuvers power... well thats just... a toy thats fun for the first... 3 seconds and then its boring and does poor dmg for the recharge it has.
I'm not bashing the epics or anything. I get the whole feel for them since I do play one, but still the main powers and heck even the secondary powers could use a bit of rethinking. That goes for both widows and spiders.
Everything is just... too much like everything else in the game... it makes the content stale... very stale. More well thought out powers, better animations and some new features for the SoA's would just make things fresher.
The big difference here is the hero counter part. Which comes with two forms (human being the default). A tanking and an all out blasting form. Now while SoA can tank, they do so with several requirements. Night widows have Elude and Soldiers use a mixture of spiderlings and Frenzy. This is not to say that they are bad, just that they lack that certain strength that PB's amnd WS's get.
Having the ability to change into a tank(taunt included) is always going to be the very power that sets these epics apart. Both do tremendous damage but SoA focus on each other being on the same team for the Leadership stack, while Khelds merely need any other type of AT to add to the inherent. -
Quote:Try a fire/fire if you want high damage output. Sure its a bit vexing geting Acro and tough and weave. But my Brute has survived many an occasion on Healing Flames alone. Wp has treated me well, SD is nice for dmg, but the res and def problem is fixed purely by IO's.When it comes to playing brutes, I'm Meh! Maybe it's my play style, maybe it's my power choices, but I have yet to find a brute I like, and I've played a couple up to at least 35. Of all the villains, I really like my Bots/Dark MM the best so far. Solo, you're an unstoppable killing machine. Teamed up, you're nice to have around (although the bots can make life difficult on a brute with their knock-back).
Stone/Stone - Real nice defenses once you get Granite. But the -speed really sucks! And granite has a -damage mod to it also! I played a Stone/Stone tank up to around 30, it was fun but the brute needs Fury and /Stone is a great way not to build it.
Dark/Willpower - Nice on Endurance, but I can't take an alpha strike. I haven't figured out how to get Tough into my build (everything in /WP seems great, and I need attacks, although I do have Haste/SS). And now that I'm 35+, I'm starting to run into problems - An endurance sucking boss from the Carnival of Shadows had me running to rest (a blue won't help when everything detoggles), and a Fire/Fire tank boss at the end of a bank mission almost took me out (if not for the greens). I've also found that some things can de-toggle my Rise to the Challenge. I don't know what or why, but it's annoying to find it off.
I've thought about making a /SuperReflexes, but I hate status protection that isn't a toggle. Even if I put it on auto-fire, I frequently have powers ready as soon as the current power finishes so it might not get activated when I need it.
Any suggestions? -
Quote:Invul/WM, for survivability (without IO's). Shield for more damage (survivability+ with IO's).hello, im lookin at trying out a tanker and i think iver narrowed my choices down to the following, sd/wm or inv/wm. i plan on grouping as much as possible. are these decent choices? whats the strengths and weaknesses of each? thanks in advance. i looked around and didnt really see other posts.
When it comes to me, I'm always going to say Invul.....unless Granite comes into play, then I'm torn like Rip. -
Quote:MMO's, specifically CoX does not need "healers". If there is damage on a team I am going to add more. I am not going to stand in the corner waiting for people to take damage to play health bar whack-a-mole. That is not my job.
My job is to have fun. Fun in a game that is not rocket surgery and does not require any special AT to accomplish just about everything in the game outside of a Hami raid.
What about TA? It is neither a "healer" or "buffer"
As I posted before, Defenders are a SUPPORT class, vague as it is, it applies more than Defender.
