Quote:As far as I know, they didn't actually do any NEW special effects. But they did/do have to go back to the original film and re-edit all 26-thousand-some cuts back together to make these HD transfers, as the only complete and fully edited versions they had were on VHS which were stuck at standard def. So.. it's still a lot of work. My guess is they'll avoid doing any new FX, possibly just doing some cleanup work if needed. On the Nerdist podcast they were talking about these... they had to go through and "remake" all the show pretty much because there was something wrong with SD versions. Like they were degraded or something. So all the footage is not "up-converted" it is taken from the original film and and re-edited together with the new special effects to create the HD resolution.

I'm tempted, but unsure. I got TOS on Blu Ray and enjoyed it... I'd want to see some more scenes in HD before making up my mind. I suppose that's what the "sampler" is for.

If you're DVRing something, you likely have some kind of cable service that you're paying for in order to get the channels that you record. Part of that payment goes toward the content providers. Even if you're DVRing and skipping commercials, you're still paying them somehow.
The same goes for streaming from Hulu/Netflix. You're paying Netflix, and Netflix has deals with the providers to bring you the content you're streaming. With Hulu, you're still watching commercials which you can't skip, even if you're using the premium subscription version. In fact you're probably watching more commercials in viewing a show on Hulu than you are just DVRing it.
If you're downloading a movie/TV show, you're not paying the content providers at all. Commercials are completely cut out, and you're not paying anyone for access rights. (And no, paying for your internet doesn't count here, the money you pay for internet access doesn't in any way go toward the providers of the content in question here.)
So anyway, no, I'm not against DVRs, I have one and use it religiously every single day, for everything I watch. And yes, I enjoy that I don't have to sit through 20 minutes of commercials for a 40 minute show. But I'm still paying for both the DVR and the cable service to it. The only time I download shows is when my DVR glitches and doesn't record correctly, and I can't find it for streaming on any legal sites. Then I'll download the episode I missed, watch it, and continue to DVR the rest of the series. -
Based on his replies in this thread, I'd say this ended up as a win for COH. In clarifying parts of his review, he's said he enjoyed the game, and doesn't usually go on to play the games he reviews. But, apparently based solely on in-game experiences had during the making of his review, he's decided to continue playing COH as time allows. He's also seen what we have to offer as far as community goes, both on the forums and in-game, both good and bad, and still wants to continue playing. He even went as far as giving out his global to us all here.
... I don't really know what my point is here, just that it kinda gives me warm fuzzies inside to know we (used in general here cuz I didn't do crap) hooked another one in. -
The "slow combat" thing might stem from the fact that he didn't really get to a very high level. Yeah, combat in low levels is slow because you don't have a lot of powers. It's not really until your 30s when you have all the powers you're gonna have and can have a smooth, non-stop attack chain, which is when combat is.. not-slow. And being sidekicked up to level 49 isn't a good indicator of how your character is actually gonna play at 49, and I kind of wonder if he thought it was.
Also, he played a stalker. Not commenting here on the "right way" or "wrong way" to play, but I know when I first played a stalker, it WAS slow, because I didn't really realize how the mechanics worked, and that I could just scrap it out after using AS.
He could have been a little more thorough with the cash shop, maybe even mentioning what just a 5 dollar investment will get you above a purely F2P account, or even going into a little bit more detail with what subscribing will unlock. But it seemed like this was a very F2P-focused piece, and so it's understandable why he didn't linger on pay-for options.
The rest of the review was fine, with just a few small errors here and there that weren't a big deal. I would say however that this is less a "review" and more a "first impressions" based on the amount he played. Getting a character up to (what appeared to be) level 15 or so makes for a fine enough review of the low-level game, but without experiencing how the game truly plays at the higher end, I just can't accept it as a full review. At the same time though, I realize that the low-level game is what new players will be experiencing first and a positive review of it can help a lot. I think that this piece was mostly positive, and I hope it'll attract more players. -
The idea of changing snipes to be like the upcoming Assassin's Strike redo sounds quite good to me. Increased damage with interrupt while out of combat, decreased damage, shorter cast/no interrupt while in combat. Makes it a viable power to use while in combat.
Trip Mine I have no real problem with at the moment; the long cast time is a bit annoying, but I do enjoy toe-bombing groups while solo. I wouldn't be against a change though, might make it more interesting if I could use it for some other purpose. -
I would pay points for a perma-version of the power the elf sells. I.E. the same power with unlimited charges. I was really hoping it would be included in the winter pack, I love the power so much.
Of course a toggle would be fine, too. Any version of this power I can get that's permanent would be awesome. -
I'm slightly disappointed in the Instant Snowstorm power only in that it has just 1 charge. Even if it is a "cheat" I love the snowing effect, and I'm very much hoping for a permanent (as in unlimited charges) version of this power to come with whatever winter holiday packstravaganza they have in store for the market.

I'd pay 400 points if they took all the various items used in [Propel] and the alakazamreact emote and made them available for bases.
I would also consider paying PP for NPCs, but only if I could:
- Edit their costume
- Edit their name
- Edit their default stance
- Edit what they say when clicked on, including being able to choose from stuff civvie NPCs say such as the current time and total time played.
-
Grimm did Red Riding Hood in the first episode. It was the little girl. When the guy opened the closet to put her jacket away, it and all the other jackets were red. Also, the "good" big bad wolf mentioned them going wacky when seeing the color red.
I somewhat enjoyed both, but they're two very different shows. I'll watch the next few episodes of each before I make any final decision. -
Very excellent. Now if we could just get more items to use this newfangled control on. Like, say, all the items from [Propel] or /e alakazamreact for instance...

Quote:... I can has Freak Tank costume in market plz? For Festivus maybe? Here's the rub,
Conventions are special. Fan Gatherings are special. They're special to you guys, and they're special to us. We also want to offer incentive to attend these events.
You know, aside from getting to spend time with me.
(No, not seriously).
While we do wish to maintain a certain amount of exclusivity to these items, we also believe that everyone should, eventually, have an opportunity to share in the fun. We're going to remain very watchful as to how soon is too soon to offer these costume powers outside of events, but I would expect to see any future Convention/M&G/Player Summit codes offered in the market...eventually. -
Think I found the RWZ mailbox Easter Egg.
SPOILERZ!!
At 772.0 42.0 124.9 there is a clickable mailbox. It says "Needless to say, these letters probably didn't make it to their destination." -
Just want to update this post to say that this particular bug WAS NOT FIXED with today's patch(10/19). As a Beam/Traps/Mace Corruptor I still can't change my costume without first switching to a lower-level build.
Hoping for an actual fix next patch. -
I thought that, at least in the TNG era, Ferengi were supposed to be about on par with the Federation technology-wise. But the big difference was that the Federation mostly made and developed their own stuff, while the Ferengi mostly bought their way into theirs.
There exists in other forms of media a semi-official timeline running through up to 30 years past Nemesis. I say semi-official because it was something that had to be approved by CBS, but obviously any new TV show or movie could ignore all of that and do their own thing.
In it, the Ferengi are described as pretty much neutral during the conflict taking place, dealing with both sides and making loads of money in the process. Were this line of events used in the background of a new show, one could see the advantage to stepping back and letting two major powers duke it out while making a profit all the while. It might leave them in a position to take advantage of the weakened factions, or at least become a real threat to them.
Which kind of sounds like something a Ferengi would do. -
It seems to be a problem centered on Beam Rifle characters. I just checked my Dual Pistols/Energy Manip blaster and my TA/A defender, both of whom have Mace Mastery, and their costumes are unlocked and work fine.
So it seems to be a Beam Rifle/Mace Mastery conflict here.
Quote:All my costumes still showed as locked after I switched builds. I had to go into each one and edit at least one part of them and accept the changes before they showed as unlocked. Now when I switch to my main build they all show as locked, and when I'm in my level 1 secondary build, they're not locked.I'll have to try that again... However, do you have as well the Mace weapon on your 2nd build ? I'm pretty sure it didn't work for me, though i'll try changing only the rifle. Did you pick a locked costume or one with no lock symbol ?
And I could still click over to the Arachnos Mace option under weapons when I was using my level 1 build, but adjusting it didn't seem to affect anything. -
So I finally found a workaround, or at least one that works for me. But it's NOT a good solution and this needs to be actually fixed soon.
This is what I did:
- Go to trainer and switch to second, unused build.
- Choose costume to edit.
- Change something. (In my case I changed the Celestial Rifle to the "Beam Rifle" option.)
- Accept changes.
- Works!
So at least for me there's a way to finally change my costumes, even if I have to wait 10-15 minutes for build switching whenever I do it. At least the advantage to having to use my second build at level 1 is all the tailor costs are also cut down to level 1 values. -
Quote:As much as I wanted this to be true for me, it was not. I have spent around 2.5 mil just changing things to see if I could get ANY costume changes to work, and I have not had success at all. I'm Beam/Traps/Mace. I've tried changing the beam rifle, tried changing the mace, tried changing to costume set Bare, tried changing goggles. I've tried everything listed in this thread, and I still can't change any of my costumes. This was the issue! The character I was editing uses the Mace Mastery PPP, and unless I changed the mace I was unable to make any costume changes. Something in the latest patch must have messed with custom weapons, so you have to select that weapon again in the costume creator. Once you do, you should be able to change the rest of your costume.

Something I don't understand is.. Are they shooting bullets or what? I mean I know they have the big sonic-turrets around the compound. And I know they gave the main dude a tranq gun in that first episode, but his gun's sounds were different from the big Colonial Marine equipment the other guys were using.
And I'm wondering this because, like... They totally unloaded those big assault rifles into those dinosaurs, and basically did nothing. Even accounting for bad aim, their spraying and praying should have come up with SOME visible results. It's like these dinosaurs are bulletproof! I can sort of understand not shooting at a big "carnosaur," though I think realistically if you used up an AK's clip on an elephant, Dumbo isn't gonna be flying anymore. But those other ones from the first episode were more big cat or horse sized. They should have been ripped to pieces by those guns!
Otherwise, I'm enjoying the show so far. As long as I don't think too hard about... stuff. Like bulletproof dinosaurs. -
I watched through TOS on BluRay earlier this year, and DVRd my way through TNG thanks to a local station running episodes every weekday. Of course I grew up with TNG myself, but I really wanted to make sure I had seen every episode. Now I definitely have. And I'll probably watch through TNG again when it comes out on BluRay next year.
And now with DS9 on Netflix, I can continue on! I'm very sure I couldn't have seen more than half of the episodes in this series, and I'm looking forward to catching up on what I've missed.
And of course I'll do with DS9 what I did with TOS and TNG -- after every episode, I'll go to Memory Alpha and look up the background info and trivia on that episode. Almost always interesting stuff to be found in there. -
.. I think I get way too into some cartoons. When I was watching Ben10 I was totally all "OSHI is that...?!" And of course it was.
Also did the same thing with YJ for the villain. Nice reference to Mayor Hill. When they were all "Captain Marvel is just here because they don't trust us!" I was all "Uh, no, Captain Marvel really does just want to hang with you guys. He's CAPTAIN MARVEL." And finally, when they were dropping off in the jungle via Ms Martian's cloaked ship, I uh.. Got bad thoughts about the shape of the opening in the bottom of the ship. I dunno, am I crazy? -

While I can appreciate the "protest" they're trying here, it can only lead to bad things for their bottom line. These are the some of the most popular TPBs in DC's catalogue. As far as comic books go, this would be like pulling Stephen King, John Grisham, and Stephanie Meyer(I know, but she's popular!) books from their shelves. These titles are what people desiring to read a comic book are going into the store to buy and read.
And if they can't find it in the store? Amazon.com has them. Probably get free shipping, too. Hell, they can just use B&N's free wireless to order it right there from their phone or laptop! This just seems like a real asinine move on B&N's part, especially when these brick and mortar stores are already on their last legs. -
Quote:In this context, it would mean that talking about games such as Batman: Arkham City, X-Men Destiny, or Spiderman: Edge of Time would be OK, since they're all directly based off of comic book characters. But as far as I know, it's still not OK to discuss these games.4. Non-MMO games: Mention in passing, but no discussion threads about them unless they are related to the comic-world. This would be part of the rule of keeping Comic Culture forum related to comic culture. [E.g., discussion of the Marvel table-top RPG would be OK, discussion of Magic:The Gathering would not.]
The same goes for any older games, like X-Men Legends, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Marvel vs Capcom, etc. And what of games that are not comic book-based, but have comic book tie-ins? Mass Effect springs to mind, and many game series such as Metal Gear Solid, Legend of Zelda, and Halo all have comic book adaptations or tie-ins. Do these count enough as being connected to comics to allow discussion? Is it only OK to talk about just the comics, or can we talk about the games as well?
And what about series like Sonic the Hedgehog, whose comic book has been going for well over a decade now? The publication spun off in its own direction years ago and aside from having a well-known video game character as its lead, has almost nothing to do with the games themselves. But is it OK to talk about it? It's still loosely based on a video game.
I guess what I'm getting at is I just don't understand why we're not allowed to have discussions about any other video game. Not being allowed to discuss other MMOs is understandable, really. Other MMOs are in direct competition with this one, and even though I disagree that limiting those types of discussions is necessary, I can understand the reasoning. But limiting discussion of games as a whole just doesn't make sense to me. They're a form of entertainment very closely linked to the namesake of this very forum: Comic Book and Hero/Villain Culture. If they are considered to be competing for your precious COH playtime, why aren't discussions about things like movies and television also banned? They compete for time just as much as, if not moreso, than other games.
My suggestion to Zwil and the community team is to ease up on the game discussion ban. Again, I can understand if not agree with the banishment of MMO discussion. But can't do the same for other games.
Realistically, this is the only rule on the subject I think we should have:
- Talk of other massively multiplayer online(MMO) games is prohibited, except those published by NCSoft (Guild Wars 2, Aion, Wildstar, etc.).
