    A new #1

A little over four years ago the Vigilance Committee was formed. I formed it with an in game buddy, Cole Preston, at the suggestion of a couple of other players in the game who were in another super group. My goal for this group was to emulate the great hero teams of The Avengers and the J.L.A. While the members of these teams were great solo characters they became something bigger than themselves when they banded together. My goal with the Vigilance Committee was to emulate that in game. To create an environment that encouraged unity and focus by offering promotions based on participation and daily teaming events.

With the aid of a fantastic player base including Fearse, The Judge, Night Juice, Meow Master(gratz again on the new baby M.M.) and many other awesome people who still play the game we were able to lay the foundation for a great group. Because we are a friendly and inclusive group our numbers grew fairly quickly and we started our rise up the s.g. server ranks quickly. Over the years we’ve seen players come and go. I want to take this opportunity to thank the folks who have stuck with us through the drama, losses (we still miss you Bluesman R.I.P. 2/09), and joys that have made this group what it is in both past and present.

Our charter went unwritten but always clearly understood by all for the first two years as a group. We don’t power level and we are first and foremost family friendly. We all enjoyed playing the game too much to p.l. past the content. Though we discovered that many players suffer from alt-it is and many had toons that had never seen higher level game content. We rectified that by creating 50’s Friday where folks with level 50 toons would mentor the poor alt-it is sufferers so that they could experience and be enticed by ‘end game content’.

As we entered the top ten rankings I put our charter to print (reprinted at the end of this post). We had heard from many that to get into the top ten you had to buy influence or farm or p.l. or snipe other sg’s players. I can assure you now, none of those means were employed by the V.C. as a group ever. Anyone who has ever been a member of the V.C. will tell you it’s not our way. We play a hero game and in that world we work to emulate that morality. I am both pleased and proud to say that we got to be number one the old fashioned way-by taking down Tyrant.

We’ve had some great coalition members-including but not limited to Paragons Elite, C.O.R.E., Warriors of Oz, and Paragon City Protectors who have all aided the V.C. in some way or another.

Our current players Elee, Bully the Clown, Hals, Mr Dinsmore and his lovely wife Connie, Chance, The Mighty Eightball, Gator, Gardenya, Helio Trope, Fearse, Los, Crash, Leaf, Rockstar, Bliss, Erich, Zandi, Cole, Liloo make this great game way more fun than the Devs intended and I thank them for their blood, sweat, tears, laughter, patience, and loyalty.
And to the Chairmen/officers who make things happen and keep me keeping on – I call them Funi, B.K., and Meow Master, I further thank you for your willingness to lead and make sure the fun stays number one in the group.

    The Vigilance Committee Charter:

What the Vigilance Committee brings its members:
Influence for enhancements on the 2's & 7's all the way to level 50
as long as members stay in sg mode.
Funds for IO's on lvls 22,32, and 42 as long as members stay in sg
    mode.
We will provide Committee members with a full base including
teleports to all zones and full inspiration machines.
We will provide Committee members with weekly events and in-game
    opportunities.
Our Chairman ranked players are here to help you whenever you need
    it.
We will provide you with a way to communicate outside the game world
so that you can keep up on game and sg events via a mailing list.
We will provide committee members with access to Ventrilo on a
    dedicated server.

    What we expect in return:

That you stay in sg mode at ALL times.
That you represent the group in a mature(this means language as well
    as behavior) and positive manner,
displaying sportsmanship and tact even when not in a sg team.
Players who do not conform to those two simple things can expect to
    be expelled from the group.
If you participate in sg sponsored events you must use a sg toon.

    Promotion/rank:

Observer-The introductory rank for the sg. You can team to your
hearts content and have base access to the teleporters and medical
bays. Watchers also have the ability to recruit for the V.C.

Watcher-The second rank in the sg is obtained by joining the mailing
list. This is the first step to obtaining full base access.

Vigilant-To obtain this rank and full base access you must obtain
the sg uniform This rank allows you full base access.

Board Member-This is a prestige rank. Upon obtaining this rank you
have earned the right to have your character featured on the
website. You gain it by staying with the sg for no fewer than four
months of regular play. You stay in sg mode and are generally
    helpful to your sg mates.
You possess a positive attitude and work for the overall well being
    of the group.

Chairman-This is an elite position. This rank can only be achieved
when there is an opening in the limited number of positions.
Chairmen go out of their way to help all members of the sg and are
    responsible for doling out influence,
Enforcing sg rules, recruiting, Base Maintenance, creating and
hosting sg events, and maintaining morale within the group.

To achieve this rank players must repeatedly put the needs of the
group ahead of themselves and play daily (or near daily).

To those who have made it to the end of this post and all those on Justice the Vigilance Committee thinks you are awesome and we will continue to enjoy teaming and lolling with you in game. Thanks for your patience and perseverance in making it this far.
  3. This thread is full of links to inactive sites. This is too bad...now if only we had a moderator to clean it up..
  4. Thank you for the post explaining the situation and coming solution. I'm sure it will help alleviate a lot of frustration for players/creators.
  5. Ok, I get why this was done. But there has to be a better way to do it. Say after the fifth or sixth ally the nerfs start or something.

The first arc I created has players working with three of the games signature characters against an AV that solo no one could defeat.

Further, if the devs can create arcs with an army of allies(Mender Silos) without punishing players for rescuing allies why can't players?

I just think there must a way to address the exploit aspect without nerfing those who use allies as an aspect of storytelling.
  6. I'd love to see some arcs by current, and past comic book creators(especially John Ostrander), or some the folks involved in the animation industry (Come on Christopher McCulloch), or actors and film writers associated with the comics genre(Yay Ben Edlund or Simon Pegg as long as we're shooting for the moon).

    Thanks for asking.
  7. War Witch Task Force!-bring out your undead!
I never realised W.W. was from someplace so close to home.
  8. IMO*and probably only imo =)*- between the word search and the picture puzzle something’s seriously wrong. I think it's great that there is a way for us euro and non-wealthy players to have access to these various codes. And I further believe that the win one-wait 30 days to win another rule is fair. I believe they are great ideas but executed in a way that makes them most un-fun.
When they were first introduced I would race to enter the code form the puzzle. When the first couple word puzzles were introduced I gave it a shot. Now these things require a lot more attention and time than I have to give. Never mind the fact that they seem to be un-winnable.

I think these puzzles are salvageable if made more accessible/easier.

Thank goodness the in game puzzles are easier.
  9. I totally agree with Sam Tow's assessment of the C.O. creator.

But these are some awesome variants:

    http://home.comcast.net/~uberrod/cohcostumes.htm
I especially like the energy bodies:
    http://home.comcast.net/~uberrod/images/nrgbodies.jpg

if Jay could make some of these happen he would be the sexiest guy in history.
  10. Not to be nit-picky(which of course means I am going to be exactly that) but perhaps some info on who these folks are and why players should care/be impressed that we are blessed with their arcs would be a good idea perhaps.
  11. Hey all,

I went to work on one of my arcs only to find it missing from my local folder. In re-checking my computer it was indeed not there in my missions folder.

I have six published arcs only four appear on my local tab. All six appear published but I am unable to edit acrs from the search page appearantly. There is one file on my hard drive in the missions folder titled autosave.storyarc. However, neither the arc I'd like to edit nor my latest creation(titled Arch-Nemesis Inc.) appear there. But my new arc does appear in game under the 'my local stories' tab.

As complicated as that may all sound...I'm just trying to find my missing arc(Universal Evil).

Does anyone have some constructive advice to aid in recovery?

Thanks in advance and for taking the time to read all this

  14. *As a base editor I would love to see various fitness equipment-from a pool to treadmills and weight sets.

*Windows with various themes for what you see through them would be cool-space, jungle, city skyline, etc...

    *Beds

*Kitchen gear-refrigerators, ovens, stack o dirty dishes, etc...

    *Medical beds and equipment

*Material we'd find in Paragon City PPD precincts-cells, weapons racks, doors, posters.

*New wall art-PLEASE. Maybe finish the CoH comic book cover set and add the novel cover, or generic wanted posters of CoT or Arachnos, Malta, etc...

*New cased -and more easily (or labeled) items in glass cases for trophy rooms-perhaps pieces we could earn. Like a piece of the Kronos Titan, or a seed from Eochai.

I'm just about full up (barring buying more) on my server of choice, and GR is certainly likely to prompt more character creation. We got more slots with COV, so I would expect it with GR.
We could also use more slots in the sg roster limit.
After over five years and the ability to have over 30 characters on one account and tons of new ATs since inception I would like to see the sg roster limit raised. As leader of a very active sg with around 25-30 daily players we could really use more space in the roster. After adding in our casual players we are always tight on space.
  16. In Founders Falls on Justice:

    Get the Superadigm Seed(34)
If those witnesses were correct, the results of the Superadigm Seed in the hands of the Arachnos could be bad for the whole city. This might be a good case to investigate yourself. Leaving the Superadigm Seed in the hands of the Arachnos is a recipe for disaster.

Definitely not. Calling Eochai the mystic aspect was confusing. When the Seek the Mystic Aspect message came up I was looking for something I hadn't seen before.
Even with Ghost Falcon calling out which zones to hit what to do once there was vague. Unless someone told you to hit the spawns around the banners it was unclear that they had to be defeated before the banner could be attacked. Perhaps a different message in the nav window along the lines of defeat banner protectors instead of banners vulnerable?

  18. Hi there,

First, thanks to any who have ideas as to how to fix this issue.

It's a strange problem. I made an arc, #130465, with custom villains and it runs fine.
However, it's tougher than I intended in parts and I wanted to tweak the underlings backgrounds as well.

When i initially went in and couldnt find any of my custom groups/characters. After several emails w/ customer support most were recovered.

Unfortunately the minions in the group for this arc didn't appear. So I remade them. Now when I look at the arc it's waaaaay oversized-it wasn't before-and the new minions do not appear in the arc at any point-nor do any edits to e.b.'s or avs. In fact no edits seem to stick.
Further, when I run the arc the minions are listed as belonging to the "all custom characters" group-which Ive never named as a group. The original group, that they were built in -the Time Wardens-seems to only exist for the e.b.'s or avs.

Under 'my custom groups' I do have a batch called 'all custom characters' but Im not sure if everyone has that or not. Nor am I sure if deleting it will delete all my characters.

    Any constructive help appreciated.

Yes, I know it was an MA panel but I thought SOMEWHERE over the weekend they could have discussed their boxed expansion. A timeframe for release, some more feature news...anything. GR is going to make or break this game for me so if it's just going to be more of the same old then I am happy to go out today and get CO. I would prefer to stay here but, lately, most of the issue updates have been just fluff.
Any dev I spoke with was happy to talk Going Rogue if you just asked questions. I recieved info I'm very happy to have gotten. However, since it hasn't been made public-and I don't want anyone to get in trouble at work, I'm not discussing it, posting it, nor coloring it on the subway walls until there is an announcement w/ more details about G.R.
I didn't attend saturday as the topic didn't really intrest me.
i16 and Going Rogue are big game changers IMO-and for the better.
If you want to play an unfinished game aimed at console players then C.O. is for you and have fun. Otherwise I'll see ya in game.
  20. It's not bugged. It's also very do-able if you go for stealth or bulldog it and not fight.
Just don't panic and go for it! usually the follow up mish is close by-in my experience.

    Good luck!

    Pax 2009?

To quickly answer part of my own question, this is from the newly posted Pax schedule:

    "Saturday 2:30pm - 3:30pm Raven Theatre
Mission Architect: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Story
City of Heroes Mission Architect lets users generate their own content. It launched in April and over 250,000 stories have been created by players. The Paragon Studios developers are back to share their experiences with you, thePAXers ! What went well? What problems arose? How has this affected the way customers play City of Heroes? We'll look at the good, the bad, the ugly, and the future of City of Heroes Mission Architect."

It does not however address the question as to whether or not Paragon will have a booth representin' w/ swag.
  22. Kohei

    Pax 2009?

    Hey all,

Anyone know if Paragon Studios will have a presence at Pax this year? Will there be a game code handout like last year? Will it be different from Comic-Con's or the Hero Con codes?

Reg time for Pax is coming up and this is a deciding factor as to whether or not I'm going.

    Thanks for your time.
  23. They didn't give much more information about GR othere than that and it will be bigger and better.
Also to clarify on the notes a little:
-The nodes are for customization, that means every costume detail is a node, so once the final 2 nodes are used they would need to rewrite code to get more. So ask yourself if rollerskates are really necessary.
-The database expansion is for storage of enhancments, salvage, recipes... Etc

taking away bridging? Does this mean moving the auto SK into the regular content? Does this mean removing the sidekick option?

Removing the sidekick option is a HORRIBLE IDEA! Bridging is no big deal except for the RPers annoyed with invites to bridge... which never happens now with MA/AE.

    I dont get this one????

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you look at the i16 announcement you will see that there will be a difficulty slider for spawn sizes-this eliminates the need for fills.
M.A. has already eliminated the need for bridges because you can set missions to auto ex toons to 45.
Now the PLers can PL themselves quietly without spamming for fillers and bridges.
That's just how I see this going-not how i'd use it.
Personally I think the slider option is awesome becasue with most toons I don't find lvl 5 dif too demanding on toons past lvl 27 or so.-just IMO
  25. I asked one of my sg mates attending Comic Con to ask about what we could expect concerning seeing Brutes on a Manticre tf or MMs in Atlas Park and whether or not they'd be allowed to join sgs. This was his reply after todays panel:

For those who couldn't make it to the con, here's a mini recap, no pics sorry. There weren't any good photo opportunities. The question I asked was in regards to Going Rogue. I asked if heroes/villians would have free run of Paragon City and the Rogue Iles and what of
    their SG affiliation?
Positron said, once a player had completed their conversion to light or dark that is the plan to let them have full playability of either territory. Whether it will be a portal to a nuetral zone like pocket D or a direct teleporter like misson teleporter is unknown. Regarding affiliations once a changeover is made, he was unable to comment. Now here are the responses to other questions of the panel:

-They want to take away bridging
    -Cross server pvp-working on it
-20 nodes to work with 18 used
    -Enhancing database- working on it
    -Quicker spawns on respec trial
    -Accolade for completing all ouroboros-no
    -More base options
    -MM custization-working on it
    -Finishing up hanging story arcs-yes
    -Electrical control for Doms-maybe
    -MM whips-yes

    ...and there you have it.
