You could have not responded to his post. On the internet, the more you say something isn't a big deal and to not worry about it, the more everyone thinks they need to make a big deal about it and worry about it (because you drew attention to it). The way you actually accomplish that, is to simply move on and don't acknowledge it.

But sometimes drawing attention to it is more fun! Esepcially when you don't have a dog in the horse race

What model did you have that could manage that? Primarily, what GPU?

That was also pretty much the only use of Statesman in a long time. Unless you count his evil alternate reality versions (which I don't, although both you can fight had much more character development than States...). Statesman has barely ever been in the game, only very rarely ever actually having any involvement in the game. Superman actually appeared in his comics.

    Quote:
Honestly, it was only sad in the fact that the devs threw him away like a chump. He didn't fight anything. He just gave up. He walked into the world's most obvious trap, lured into a smoldering crater in an exotic location by a man with no ability to actually fight Statesman. He didn't even show up at all previously in the arc, so there's no chance to actually establish any sort of emotional connection.
His daughter had just been murdered by aforementioned powerless guy in cold blood. As for the giving up part? He already had his powers stripped, and one thing you learn in the Villain version (not sure if the hero version goes into this), the entire reason Wade killed him was to absorb his (Zeus's) incredible will power.

Of course, this discussion has already been had a hundred times since SSA first appeared, and no one's budged on their position one bit, and likely no one ever will.
  5. For some reason, I have a strong suspicious that whatever deal NCSoft had with Transgaming was transferred over to ArenaNet & GW2 when they axed CoH. I have absolutely zero evidence, but it's just a gut feeling

I'd be curious to see a comparison of the cider-wrapped version of GW2 pitted against a Wine/CX version (also on OSX) version of GW2. Any performance difference? Battery? Stability? Hell, I just checked out CodeWeaver's site (developers of CrossOver, and major Wine contributors), and they have an entire sub-section of their forum setup dedicated to GW2, and the top sticky says that they (CX) are working on improving the stability.

ArenaNet might be better off making a deal with CodeWeavers and have them handle the "porting". They can't do a worse job than Transgaming, from the sound of things.

NCSoft did negotiate with the developers of one of their previous games (I can't recall which) to sell the IP back to them, but they never reached an agreement (maybe they wanted too much... or the developer wanted it for nothing... or the meetings were interrupted repeatedly by godzilla attacks- we don't know why). Tabula Rasa was also quite a different situation, with how things went down with Richard Garriott and losing a massive lawsuit against him... that was a game they had a reason to want to bury.
  8. Just because you have something under copyright, doesn't mean you're entitled to be able to 'use' it (copyright really doesn't even cover use!). Take for example if you wrote a piece of software that included a library (which is fundamental to the working of the application) written by another entity, which you had licensed to be able to use for 5 years. You release the software you wrote (which is tightly coupled to said library) and it's used for many years by many people. You most certainly own the copyright to the part of the software you wrote, even if the copyright to the library is owned by another entity.

Once the 5 years is up, for some reason you or the other entity decide to not renew the license (why is unimportant)... what happens? You still own the copyright to the code you wrote, but, you can no longer use that library... which means your application is completely and totally non-functional. Just because you own the copyright to your code, and your code doesn't work without their library, that does not mean you're in any way, shape, or form entitled to continue using their library (nor are you entitled to any form of compensation/recompense).

That's the situation AE/costumes are in. The options in this case are basically the same as my hypothetical situation: either convince the other entity to return to the old setup (or something akin), or reimplement the missing functionality (write an engine for hosting AE / showing your costumes). The latter part, though is still potentially messy, as your AE/costumes might be considered derived work of NCSoft's copyrights, which gets you into extremely expensive lawyer territory.
  9. Freedom was my original home, and I spent years playing pretty much exclusively there.

Over the last year or so, I've largely moved off Freedom to Virtue, finding the population wasn't that weird mix as you ran into on Freedom, as I prefer to PUG, not run with a closed group. I originally moved over more so because I was out of space on Freedom, but it was back during the Shark Week event I returned for a period where the strong culture difference was quite evident. Virtue now feels much more like Freedom used to feel, possibly at least in part due to many of the well known (at least to me ) Freedomites moving there back during the period of free server transfers we had a few years ago.

And the account website is down for "maintenance."
I can log in to my NCSoft Master account just fine. I'd suggest contacting NCSoft support... and failing that, send a PM to Zwill with as much information as you can.

FYI, it was announced that they're giving us cash refunds. Check out Zwill's post for the details.

I've installed Windows 7 on a 6 GB disk, so you can certainly fit in a rather cramped space.

Yep, the same as always (I just double checked myself on a fresh virtual machine that's never had CoH/the launcher installed and did it fine). There was a thread a week or so ago about the Launcher no longer being able to update CoH, but that was actually just because the machine they tested it on was so far out of date that it couldn't do a fast-update, and the install had to be 'repaired' (at which point it worked fine).

They had never tried to give us credit on another game and call it a day. In prior closing, it took them around 3 weeks to announce what they were going to do, which were refunds (plus several free trials). You know, pretty much exactly what happened here (that was before everything started going F2P, so a trial actually meant something).

Sorry (and yes, I still wish it wasn't true but it is; time to move on).
Wait, people actually thought NCSoft would un-cancel the game and rehire Paragon? I'm pretty sure none of the Titan people were even trying to work towards that.

People are unhappy with them not reinstating ViP to Premiums.
CoH was 2% of their overall revenue. You think that the amount of income from Bio Armor is that significant that they'd actually care? That seems extremely doubtful to me.

Also, why do you assume the decision about VIPs was done by NCSoft? How do you know the community reps or Paragon didn't axe that plan (like they did with making everything in the store free)? Hell, they might not even be able to set everyone to VIP easily. I'm a bit skeptical that NCSoft management said NO VIP FOR YOU!, overruling the remains of Paragon (Paragon is only effectively dead).

An interesting thing is that the items in the 'cash shop' can actually be had without spending any money, since the in-game currency can be converted to the cash shop currency. (not that that changes your point or anything )
  20. I'd much rather MMOs go in that direction, than what seems to already be happening, where what traditionally were offline single player games (with or without an online component) move that direction (i.e. Diablo 3, where a net connection is required at all times to play, or the EA games that require a net connection but don't actually have online modes).

It doesn't use the Mac version of the NCSoft Launcher, so that right there means it'll be a better experience than CoH was.
  23. The Guild Wars 2 OS X client, just like the City of Heroes OS X client, runs on top of Transgaming's Cider. Not native... but it seems Blizzard is the only one that actually makes a native OS X MMO.
