Quote:What ice damage aura?Yeah fire/ice is burn->Ice patch and both the fire and ice damage aura is pretty good. Clean up the stragglers with ice swords. And it seems like peacebringers wouldn't be so bad. Now I'm just trying to figure out if it should be spine/dark,elec,or fire. hmm
And yeah fire/ice is good if you don't mind taking 1 hour per run, even Ice Melee's AoE damage is subpar.
PBs are LOL, seriously. Warshades can do it with mega expensive perma eclipse builds. -
Which one do you find the fastest? I have a f/k and am leveling up a fm/sd/blaze because f/k farming tires me (I don't mind all the clicking when doing challenging content tho). I'm asking because Fury said shields are the 'kings' now but I haven't seen a faster shielder (I have seen a ZOMG Warshade farming at +4/x8/bosses but the build must have costed more than 5 bil, I only saw the bonuses).
-
Not really, Mids use the Microsoft .NET framework. I run Mid's from my Mac OS X using parallels desktop, but it requires a windows installation in your hard drive. Basically Parallels (and VMWare) runs Windows inside your Mac OS X, but it's a big resource hog.
-
I recommend 12 points of KB protection. My DM/DA does fine with just one IO (4 points) but she's a scrapper, so you'll be surrounded by mobs more often as a Tanker. My scrapper only got KB'ed to the point that annoyed me in the KHTF (which nobody does frequently anymore because it's not a quick way to get a recipe like before).
-
I have a planned build for an Ice/Fire Tanker (only got him to 38 tho) with capped defs, tough, taunt and all the attack maxxed out on damage, including fire blast and ball. Why couldn't he be a 'Scranker' (damage aura, lots of AoE, good ST) and a good 8 man team Tanker at the same time since all his 'tanking' attributes are the best I could get (without purps and pvp IOs) too?
-
I don't think the FF proc works in SC because it's a pseudopet. Anyway it's better on TS even if it works on SC because you'll use TS more often.
-
Yeah Fire/Kins blow everything else outta the water. I have one.
Peacebringers and Fire/Ice Tankers? Don't even thing about that.
Spines/* is better than Claws/* so Spines/Fire, /Elec or /Dark would be good. /Dark would be the best imo if you can manage your end because farming on a /dark is so easy with the mez toggle, and /Fire the second best because /Elec has a slow recharging heal. Spines/Will may even be easy but it won't be as fast because you lack a damage aura.
I've seen warshades farm pretty impressively, but they were multi-billion human form builds and they required a LOT of clicking, maybe mor than fire/kin. -
lol Frosticus!
Take a lookie at this thread I made, I decided on Fire/SD: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=215161 -
Fire/kins are the best farmers period.
Also they are the cheapest ones too, because of inherent recharge bonuses like siphon speed, no endurance worries and a self heal, plus fulcrum shift that can cap their damage, this way making them able to farm on SO's unlike all other farmers (maybe except for a SS/Will Brute).
And they are great for teams too, a mix of good control+damage and the awesomeness of /kin on any team, BUT a lot of people just PL their f/ks to 50 and learn how to farm, so they faceplant a lot in challenging content, that's why f/ks get a bad rep.
A fantastic combo for teaming, soloing and farming if you get to level one properly like I did and learn when you can use your powers in teams instead of charging into any mobs and going splat like some purpled out farmers who are used to mow down specific enemy groups -
If you play at odd hours, go to Freedom and join the most popular channels, there will always be people on. The same goes for Virtue.
Now if you wanna team a lot villainside, no matter if you play at strange times or not, I"d begin at Freedom, maybe try Virtue (although I find the difference from Freedom to Virtue noticeable in 'villainy', heroside it's almost the same thing), but to be able to team 100% of the time on Villains, I'm afraid the other servers are kinda low on pop, at least until you make a lot of friends ingame.
Sure you may end up liking another server better, or even getting to be part of a tight community on Justice, Champion, Infinity, etc, but I'd recommend Freedom/Virtue to any beginner, especially redside where some servers are ghost towns. Then when you've got a better grasp of the environment you can try out other servers and see which fits you best, but in my case, I find it important to at least begin playing where you can communicate and get to know a lot of people of all kinds. I ended up staying in Freedom and Virtue because I like sometimes to 'get away' from my usual groups and go team with a bunch of unknown people, or have the ability to form a Task/Strike Force at 4 am in ten minutes. And also because sometimes I feel too lazy to form teams and like to get invites and just go play, if I don't wanna group I just set my flag to red and nobody bothers me (at least that's my experience even on the high pop servers). -
Fury's builds rock! Great work
-
I'd go Elec/defensive set. Stalker ELM was the only one with no significant AoE 'nerfs'. While Spines lost Quills, MA lost Dragon's tail, Katana lost Lotus Drops, Elec lost Lightning Clap which you'd probably skip anyway. And it's better at ST damage than Brute and Scrapper versions because of A. Strike, so IMO it's the best one for soloing like +2/x6 or something like that.
-
Hey I wanna see builds here, this thread made me curious
-
Hmm see if this build I just made gives you some ideas (tried to make it affordable). Range should be at 42%ish (41.46% acording to my calcs) with Hover on and Cloaking Device on but suppressed. I'm taking in consideration the incoming BoTZ nerf (so ranged def for each one will be 1.25% not 3.13%) and that they will drop in prices a LOT (except for the -KB one which I didn't use). Nova has no acc slotted since its base acc is high and you'll probably use Aim before. The downside of the build is that Tough is not slotted except for the Steadfast unique.

Thanks Chaos! I think the numbers are the same for all ATs... I took a long break from the game but I *think* it's affected by +tohit (yellows, aim, whatev) but not by +dmg (reds, the damage part of Aim/BU).
-
Yeah this happens on my Mac OS X, so in the mac system I have to use Chrome for the forums, but in my WinXP partition it works fine.
Strangely both 'Firefoxes' (the winXP and mac ones, on the same computer) have cooliris, but the winxp one works normally. -
Anyone knows the numbers and base acc? I found in CoD it summons a pet called 'Explosion' that does about 55 energy dmg in 15' radius, but maybe it's a NPC power since the Self Destruct listed there recharges in 10 seconds.
It's affected by tohit like Aim and yellows right? I never used the power too much. -
Sonic - great sinergy with -res but little AoE, Siren's Song is great for most sonic toons but I don't think you'd need with all the mitigation in Dark Miasma
Dark - good AoE, the Dot makes it look like it does little damage. The ST damage is not good.
Rad Blast - good AoE and decent ST, requires melee for Irradiate while most other primaries can be played from range with Dark.
Psy - good ST, good AoE, that'd be my pick, the only defender I managed to get past 40 is my Rad/Psy, I never felt like I was doing too little damage even solo.
Ice would be another solid contender, Ice Storm + Tar Patch = win. But I like Psy's combo of ST+Aoes betters, I feel it's more balanced, although Psy lacks Aim.
Energy - KB is counterproductive to fearsome stare, tar patch, darkest night...
Elec - I HATE Elec Blast's low damage and there's nothing in Dark/ to help you drain mobs to make elec's secondary effect better.
As PC_Guy said Fire/Dark corrs are monsters, and for defs I feel Psy has the closest mix of ST+AoE. -
A claws/ea would be so fast and pretty!
-
Ok, my take on it, I don't play MA so no idea if Eagle's Claw is worth it or not, but I put it in. Good regen, +maxhp, recovery and nice recharge. defenses are capped for melee and range and AoE is at 40% which should be good enough, I made this in 5 minutes so there's probably a lot of room for improvement (as I said, no MA toons here).

Quote:FAIL!!!!!11!!!eleventyone!!EA admittedly Ive never played past level 10, mainly because I discovered mids and found so many better things, but war mace ive used on a tanker to 50 and im still unimpressed.
If you play brutes then consider trying a fire or a superstrength charecter if you want something that has power, secondary wise energy is still the worst one lol.
This thread is not for gimped non-pretty and not as strong sets!!!
If you wanna give advice about subpar sets like fire and super strength you go thru the back door and make a new topic nobody who likes strong and pretty will read!
And your war mace Tanker was only strong, that's why he didn't impress you, lolTankers don't get Energy Aura. What is the point in strong without the pretty? -
I'm not leaving this thread in the second page!

Well I'd pay 10 bucks for Mid's on my Mac, seriously. Yeah I know that has nothing to do with the topic.

Quote:I did this after I finished Dr. Q TFI cried tears of joy while completing Westin Phipps' missions.
Quote:People cry when reading books, or watching movies or TV shows, so video games are ok too
The only time I cried in a video game was in Final Fantasy X's ending but well... I know some people who cried too and I even read about cases of depression in Japan because of that ending (oh those weird Japanese people, I'm half Japanese so I kinda understand them lol). -
You forgot to mention Seismic Smash has a hold attached, which is great for a dom.
Mud Pots is more of a damage and slow aura than a PbAoE immob, the immob is the least significant part of the power. Not that it's a great power, but it's not just a melee immob as you said.
I disagree that Stone and Heavy Mallet don't need recharge because their base rech is 'already great' like you wrote.
Slotting Earthquake for KB is a no-no. Slot for recharge.
Quote:Power Boost has nothing to do with Aim or Build Up.Power Boost: Aim, Build-up, whatever, its your Grandpa's power boost.
The posted build is very weird. Animated Stone underslotted for damage, Volcanic Gasses with a Posi set instead of Lockdown or Basilisk's Gaze, Stalagmites with another damage set instead of Stun and only 3 slots... Core earth control powers taken too late as Carnifax said, not exactly optimal for PvE or PvP (no super speed, only Acrobatics as -KB protection when you'd want 35-41 points of -KB). Well if it works for you in PvE/PvP it's fine, but I found a lot of bad advice in this guide for both powersets I'm afraid.
