Heroside content needs major revamps, full stop.

Make contact missions in the same zone. Slash and burn the hunts. Get rid of the 'Talk To' missions full stop.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If this happened, I'd play blue side more.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. Between scanner teams or playing 'talk to the security chief for Crey's Folly and then kill 40 Devouring Earth there and then fight Knives in King's Row and then talk to Crimson'... I'll take option C, villainside.

I'm still an advocate of a simple feature: You shouldn't be able to rate an arc unless you've finished playing it. I think that would cut right down on that sorta griefing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And then how do I rate an arc one star when it springs sixteen AVs on me at the door of the first mission with no warning?

Lacks Build Up, and doesn't feel particularly Brute-like animation-wise (and the animations for DB are some of the best in the game).

    [ QUOTE ]
I deleted my DB Tanker and DB Scrapper early, as the set just didn't seem to "fit" those ATs for me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pretty much this. Whatever you make a Dual Blades character as, keep in mind that the set's animations are much more about speed than force. I made a DB brute who was intended to be an inhuman monster dual-wielding meat cleavers, and then she started dancing like a ballerina on ecstasy every time I got into a fight. Fits much better as a scrapper or stalker set, in my opinion.
  4. I rolled him in August or so of 2004, and hit 50 sometime in January 2005. Think I had about 700 hours logged, but a lot of that was RP and such.

You missed the memo? Yeah, it turns out that marketeering is evil and ruins the game for everyone else. If it wasn't for people like us with a basic grasp of economics, CoX would be a paradise of plenty. Shinies for everyone! Everyone's a winner! Here's your sticker! Yay, stickers!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, the drop rate on everything in the game used to be infinite, so there was no competition and everybody could have everything, but then I bribed the NPCs with my ill-gotten funds to get them to stop dropping so much loot. I ebiled scarcity into existence.

It seems likely that Statesman and/or any number of other villains played a part in slowing the meteor's descent in an effort to reduce the devastation.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Even then. Going by the calculator, the minimum entry speed for an actual meteor is 11 km/s. However, set the speed of entry to the lowest possible the calculator will take (1 km/s), and the crater is still 111m in diameter - and that's after losing almost 90% of its kinetic energy during reentry!

If they had the power to slow it down so much that all it happens is that it cracks the pavement a little bit, they could have sent it packing back into space.

EDIT: Oops, read the numbers the wrong way around, it's actually under 90% kinetic energy loss.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well in that case, they probably used the P.L.O.T. device to stop it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Y'know war walls?

Ever try to fly really high? Yeah, what happens?

    War ceiling.
  7. Earth/fire is great fun, especially if you like large teams. Lots of AoE mezz and good AoE attacks to boot. Took it a bit longer to really feel mature for me solo, but by the mid-20s, it was cruising right along. It's still one of the few 50s I have that solos fast enough to keep me interested.

<.< I'm doing fine as dark/regen without stamina.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh wow, a Secondary that has a Stamina duplicate (Quick Recovery) within it doesn't Stamina. Who would have thought?

    [/ QUOTE ]

And an end recovery power in the primary.

Sorry, officer. I guess my reckless driving was caused by my cooking of this bald eagle on my dashboard Hibachi while talking on my cell phone and snorting cocaine off this dead prostitute's stomach. Is there a problem?

And on the other end, teamer. Throw out all the RP, PvP, market opportunities, badges, supergroups, and raids that you want. At the end of the day, if I can't get a large team without much of a headache, I'm not playing CoH that day.
  13. Can we get a numbering system for City Life like the marketing forum has? "Devs don't listen to players because EVERYBODY likes farms" can be a #1, "There's still some farming in the game and it upsets my delicate sensibilities" can be #2. It'd save a lot of typing, since every conversation would be "1!" "2!" "1!!!!" "2!!!"
  14. If I'm solo: Energy/Energy. Good damage, and damage mitigation via knockback is awesome fun.

Unfortunately, I also find it a huge pain in the butt to spend half my time in team fights hovering around so that I'm exactly over an enemy's head before attacking so that the tanks and scrappers don't have to walk three feet, so on teams, I prefer my elec/elec.
  15. Kelenar

    Faultline

I'd suspect that it also has a lot to do with the fact that, since XP smoothing and such, all you really have to do is sneeze forcefully at somebody and you've gotten enough XP to be out of range of the first Faultline contact.

But a tram certainly couldn't hurt, and it'd help contribute to the feeling that the zone is really starting to recover.

attack could do smashing damage but be typed energy, thus going against energy defense. This is rarely the case, but it apparently did occur in the past, and there may still be existing oddities although I can't think of any right now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fireball deals fire and smashing damage but is defense typed only as smashing, if I recall correctly (no time to check at the moment).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didn't know there were still any powers around without tags for all of their damage types. Huh. Nifty.

Aside from the workload of actually making it happen, what reason is there for this NOT to be the case for all enemy groups?

    [/ QUOTE ]
It would decrease the soloability of single target damage and drastically increase the value of enemy-targeted self-buffs like Soul Drain, Rise to the Challenge, and Against All Odds. Those last two powers specifically would probably make it a balance nightmare.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yikes! Yes, I completely forgot about enemy-drawn buffs. I guess making these underlings not count would be too much of a coding nightmare, though I wouldn't say it would be a pain for single-target powersets. After all, with posing little credible threat and being easy to kill, one shouldn't have to worry about them, much less worry about viability against them. It's kind of like Gears, only even less intimidating. I'd actually put those at an almost guaranteed one-shot kill from almost everybody.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Standard Code Rant applies to me not having any idea if it'd be too hard to make these underlings not count for the purpose of buffs, but doing so would certainly eliminate a lot of the potential problems.
  18. Rad/Rad/Energy. Rad/ is a great swiss army knife set, /Rad just has the damn sexiest animations around, and /Energy gives me PBU'd EM Pulse and its hold duration best measured in epochs.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Only the best defense applies. This also is how the game resolves multiple damage type defenses. For example, some attacks are both energy and smashing damage. The higher defense value determines how much defense you get against such attacks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. When you're attacked, you use the highest defense you have versus it, whether positional or typed.

For example, let's say you're attacked with Fireball.
Fireball does Smashing and Fire damage, and it's an AoE attack. If you have 15% Smashing defense, 20% Fire defense, and 5% AoE defense, your defense versus the attack is 20%, because that's the highest of the three applicable ones.

What if the devs secretly put the big red ball in the "Going Rogue" Expansion.

Going Rogue features: Big Red Ball.

That's it. It'll be enough until the next paid expansion hits.

    market cleanup

Disallowing bids at this point could be very hard to handle... some people who've gotten more than 2 billion inf on a single character store it in the form of bids on nonexistent enhancements.
  23. I imagine none of the villain patrons will switch, given the way they're tied to the epic pools. I'd actually be surprised if any of the established characters did, since it'd mean going through the existing content and replacing them.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
A fire/Fire dominator or a Fire/(Rad/Dark/Kinetics) corrupter would be my choices. I imagine tehre are some brutes that can SMASH reasonably well from the get-go as well, but I dont know what they are.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My Dark/Elec brute never really had end problems. 2 endredux in every attack at level 12 and I was doing well enough to consider just skipping Stamina altogether at DO levels.

The ever-common 'Oh, I'll come with you on this mission, since you'll never beat up [Archvillain!] without my help!' contacts are downright obnoxious, though.

    [ QUOTE ]
This happens once in the last mission of the arc...but I don't think I overdid it any. It's not because you NEED help. You can always send feedback.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm, I'm guilty of this as well. But I did it because I didn't want to be accused of having a lazy contact who wouldn't do things for herself - which honestly, some of the dev arc contacts totally are. I didn't realize I was contributing to a cliche.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's more that a lot of people use it to go 'OH LOOK AT HOW SUPERBLY POWERFUL MY CHARACTER IS.' Just like putting the same character in as an extreme/extreme enemy archvillain.
