market cleanup

Is it possible to have Wentworths and the Black Market not show items that don't exist? If an item has never been issued at a particular level, don't allow people to bid on it at that level, and don't show it to me if they did.

Posted

Disallowing bids at this point could be very hard to handle... some people who've gotten more than 2 billion inf on a single character store it in the form of bids on nonexistent enhancements.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Posted

you do know that there is a lv selection at the top. and you can also choose what you want to see, i.e. : for sale only, for bid only and all.

Posted

This is true, Sharker, but showing nonexistant items is rather... well, silly. And if there are enough of them, what are they doing on the back end, performance wise - with that first, long pause when you hit the market?

(No, I don't think it'd be THAT big of an impact on performance, but it may as well be mentioned.)

And as far as using it to store INF... ouch. If one of those ever DID come into existance, someone would be ticked. If they did do the clearing, I'd imagine they'd give warning ahead of time.

Posted

That, Sharker, is actually what I find annoying. I've already level restricted it, only looking for items either for sale or on bid, and I'm still seeing garbage entries.

Kelenar, I believe I have heard previously that there is an influence cap, and you may be right. People may be storing influence in nonsense bids to bypass that.

Couldn't care less if they lose it.

With that attitude you shouldn't be surprised if people don't care if you feel frustrated, and don't support your suggestion.

Huh, I'll have to try that if I ever get more than 2 billion inf.

And they, in turn, don't care about your idea.

There is, at two billion. I recall someone asking for it to be buffed up to four, and ignoring programming reasons given where it was unlikely.

Now, don't get me wrong. It's not that I don't understand their problem. I mean, there you are, you already own everything you can imagine yourself wanting, you've filled up your vault space with salvage you hope is going to hold its value, you don't run your own SG so you can't put in enhancement and salvage stores that nobody else can access, if you walk around carrying your limit of salvage or recipes you can't get more, and you're running out of slots in the consignment house to buy and sell your goods. What are you supposed to do? You can only practically put about one billion influence per consignment house slot in legitimate bids, so if you've got 18 slots you can only raise the 2 billion influence cap to 20 billion. That's just not enough! It IS theoretically possible that something might come out tomorrow that's going to be marketing for 21 billion.

Couldn't possibly care less.

So your real motivation behind this idea is that you want to punish people that are more successful at the market than you are? That's what it sounds like to me.

Good Idea.. /signed
Better yet clean out all the items that have been in there more then 30 days as well.
so what if the marketers lose it's just a game. :-)

Posted

No, my motivation is to make the market easier for me to use. If in the process someone loses something they have no use for anyway, I don't see that as a serious drawback to the proposal.

On the other hand, Havoc, I don't see the advantage of purging stale listings for actual items. If it actually exists and someone wants to buy it, let a seller find them.

Posted

Now, having said that, if they can accomplish the successful removal of those junk results from search returns without deleting the actual bids, that works just as well for my purposes. I just thought it would be convenient for the majority of the playerbase NOT to have the market tacitly suggesting bids for items that don't exist.

Posted

You could just filter the market to display only items "for sale" instead of everything.

If he did that it would solve his problem.

thats what i suggested in the begining of the thread. in which i got this response:

this leads me to believe that he did not set it to show what was for sale only since he would not have seen what was being bid on.

I know. This idea was never about improving the game for the benefit of all players.

Forbin, what I would actually suggest instead of bidding for items that don't exist is bid for high-value items that do exist. Granted, if someone does sell the item at the price you bid you lose liquidity, but the general trend is for item prices to go up. Instead of having 1 billion influence in a slot, you'd have inventory that was valued at 1 billion influence at the time of purchase, and will probably sell for more now. The liquidity shouldn't be that big an issue anyway since it's likely to be a very long time before anything sells at 2 billion influence.

Naturally I can flag to search only for items that are for sale, but that doesn't work if I'm trying to get information on something that isn't currently on offer.

Why should anyone care if you are frustrated after you made it perfectly clear you don't care about other players?

Narrow your search. Problem solved.

if you change the ending lv to 50 then you wont see anything lv 51-53 where most of the storage takes place. you seem to not want to take the advice that has been given to you. i suggest that you do. it takes all of 2 secs to change the max lv from 53 to 50. learn how to use the markets rather then [censored] about them.

Not seeing the issue at all. Just set it to only show things that exist and in the right level range.

/unsigned.

Blazara Aura LVL 50 Fire/Psi Dom (with 125% recharge)
Flameboxer Aura LVL 50 SS/Fire Brute
Ice 'Em Aura LVL 50 Ice Tank
Darq Widow Fortune LVL 50 Fortunata (200% rech/Night Widow 192.5% rech)--thanks issue 19!
