Quote:You know what? I think you're half right but missing the entire point. Now I think you're missing the point. CoH isn't a charity; it's a BUSINESS. A "cynical" cash grab? Gee, I thought the express purpose of a for-profit business was to make money. Silly me.Quote:
This steampack stuff was likely ready to go on the last issue release, if not sooner, and it's been held back as a cynical cash grab.
It would be safe to say that EVERY SINGLE THING they say or do will generate a rant from SOMEONE. As I said above, it's a business. As long as their releases have a VALUE (and this is entirely subjective) to justify the price, people will buy them. If *YOU* don't perceive that value, don't buy it. Problem solved.Quote:Every time they release one of these they tick off more and more of their subscriber base. Everyone has their limits. One day they'll hit yours as well.
And no, the fact that they are releasing content with a price tag is not inherently a problem. Sure, it's a problem to YOU, but not me. And, apparently, not most of the playerbase. -
Happens all the time with large groups of mezzers. You need to keep an eye on your buff icons to see how many mezzes are getting stacked on you so you can take proactive steps to avoid getting mezzed.

Hardly. No one disputes that YOUR money in real life is YOURS, but charities and churches politely ask you to part with some of it quite often.Quote:Apparantely the OP thinks so, otherwise a thread like this wouldn't have even been considered.
Oh, I agree that it's the most likely outcome. But, unlike you, I don't think the reason is that other gamers are greedy. I think it's because the overwhelming majority of the players don't read the forums.Quote:I'm just highlighting what in my opinion is the most likely outcome.
No, they would do it because they feel it's the right thing to do. As I said previously, this has happened numerous times. People have come forward and VOLUNTEERED the information that they ended up with an unexpected windfall and trying to find the previous owner.Quote:Now forgive me for sounding rude, but I highly doubt that most people would go all the way to try and return it to come out in the end looking like some nice guy.
That's *YOUR* reality. Not everyone thinks or acts the same way.Quote:If I recieved 1.8 billion infamy all of a sudden in the BM, I would actually just go off and spend it. Sorry, but that's the reality of it. -

Quote:For Shards, the ITF is probably the best choice. You have to defeat a lot of dudes and that's what gets you Shards. And it's not tedious like Dr Q.I think this is the best Shard TF in the game for collecting shards. Any comments?
Wrong. It *IS* luck. Shard drops are random. -
Quote:For finding teams, mostly yes.A friend tells me that supergroups have more or less been replaced by global channels. Truth?
Some SG's have regularly scheduled events. For the other times of the week, and SG's that don't have events, global channels are the way to go.
I would suggest posting in the forum section for your server and asking which are the most active channels. If you have a preference (task forces, low level teams, etc), say so. -
Quote:Really? There wouldn't be any such problems, if they took a little effort to do it right and did an actual merger rather than move-and-delete.
Quote:1) Character names: Duplicated character names would end up, based on creation date (or random chance, if date isn't kept track of internally, renamed Character Name I and Character Name II. So, when you say there wouldn't be "any" problems, you really mean there wouldn't be "a lot" of problems. I guess the people who get screwed can just be swept under the carpet.Quote:2) Supergroups: Same as above for names.
Because forced character deletion is the way to keep your customers happy.Quote:3) No automatic deletion/scattering of characters - all characters would be moved to the merged. If that causes slot overflow, no new characters can be made by that player on the newly merged server until they delete enough to bring them down to under their proper number of max slots -

Quote:Nothing lasts forever in any context. The big picture is that nothing last forever....even in a game. Few studios can create infinite content because they have finite resources. A story begins and ends.
No studio can ever create infinite content.
Your comments are so obvious and self-evident as to be meaningless. -
Well, it had to happen. A Japanese company has developed a commercial product that works from your brain waves. Not the first such product, to be sure, but the first one where they use the signals to ANIMATE FAKE CAT EARS!
Oh, the horror. -
I wonder if it would make a difference if everyone did that. My invuln tank still has his 'no cape / no aura' costume for raiding.

Well, they're just like the groups in the comics: some are genuinely "mighty" and some, relatively speaking, are punks. Superman is mighty. So are Iron Man, Wonder Woman, Thor, etc. Batman is a punk. Aquaman is a punk. Some of them are in both categories at once. Flash has amazing powers but if you could catch him off-guard, a normal person could take him out with one punch.
In the Phalanx, Statesman and Positron are mighty. Manticore and Synapse are punks. BAB is a punk. Sister Psyche is like Flash - amazing powers but really easy to take out of the fight. -
Quote:No one disputes that the person is entitled to keep it. However, we OFTEN have threads with incidents like this and they are FREQUENTLY started by people looking to return the money they received due to someone else mistyping.Your friend won't get the money back. Even if it was a clear accident, the person who got 1.8 billion is entitled to it through and through.
Re the second sentence: it happens all the time. It can be inattentiveness or it can be lag from the market server which is obviously something the player can do nothing about.Quote:EDIT: I begin to doubt whether this even happened or not, and someone is trying to scam some money. How the hell could something 'accidentally' buy some IOs of that standard for such a number?
Re the first sentence: your attitude stinks. -
You can get the Mayhem and Safeguard badges any time, even once you're 50. You just need to join someone else's mission.

Or possibly Hami negates heal powers. If you don't believe the other posters, Paragonwiki says:
"The Hamidon nucleus's attack, Electrolytic Blast, incorporates most of the negative effects of all three mitochondrial attacks. It inflicts high special damage, healing resistance, endurance drain, regeneration and recovery resistance, and a chance for disorient and knockback on multiple targets within a 25' AoE." -
Quote:No, it is *YOUR* big picture. If you're focused on the goal, and not the process, the game has a different feel to it. My goal is not to 'get to the end' or 'finish' a character. The whole point is the experience along the way.In the big picture, I just see everything as a stepping stone.
And before you accuse me of "twisting" your words, like you did with someone else; "I just see everything as a stepping stone." Those *ARE* your words. -
The launcher will 'trickle download' the updates if you have it running. If there has been an update and you load the launcher, it will give you a big UPDATE button which will download the update at full speed.
There is no good reason to keep the launcher running. If you know there is going to be a big update, like a new Issue, you can always load the launcher for that specific event. I did that for the last issue. I loaded the launcher before going to work and when I got home the patch was downloaded. -
Quote:What outside sites and 3rd party programs should I look at? Which ones should I avoid? And definitely remember the correct name: ParagonWiki. If you go to Google and search "city of heroes wiki", the first few links are to wikia.com which is *BAD*. The site is NOT updated by this community, carries advertising for gold sellers and, worst of all, has been know to be infected with malware. It may be clean now, but a site screws up like that just ONCE and they're on my **** list forever.Quote:The Paragon Wiki is a great Community run resource that even the Paragon team uses quite frequently.
If you're going to be sticking around, you'll want to buy the Going Rogue expansion. It adds A LOT. Notably:Quote:What additional items, programs and material should I be looking for?
- An entire new starting area, Praetorian Earth, in addition to Paragon City and the Rogue Isles.
- Incarnate content - a way to acquire new powers for your 50's.
- Alignment - the ability to switch sides, i.e. you can convert a Mastermind to a hero or a Blaster to a Villain. There are also 'in between' alignments (Rogue and Vigilante). -

Quote:I would think the timer is intended as a penalty for dying and the descriptive text is just window-dressing. Because you're right, it sure as HELL does not help the players in any way, shape or form.If we're meant to 'participate' more to keep out of the 10 threads range...then why on EARTH does the damn Hospital door lock people up, meaning they have to sit there doing nothing? It sure as hell doesn't do what it claims to do, making sure there is a group to run out into the 'hostile' zone.

Input lag has nothing to do with your video card. The first (and easiest) thing I would check is your latency. While in the game, type: /netgraph 1
This will put a bar chart of your ping rate, and the actual number, at the bottom right of your screen. The ping rate indicates how long data is taking to travel between your computer and NCSoft's servers. If you're seeing a number like 600, that's .6 seconds and that's your problem. To turn the netgraph off, type: /netgraph 0
My next thought would be a keyboard driver or macro program that is interfering with your keyboard polling. I'm kind of clueless there so see how the netgraph looks and then post back here and we can get someone more knowledgeable to look for other problems. -
The big question on your cable is: are you actually getting anywhere near the speed they are charging you for? I'm pretty far from the connection point so my broadband (DSL) is pretty slow. The best they could offer me is 768 downstream. I just ran a speedtest and I'm actually getting 737 downstream and 129 up (35ms latency). Go to DSL Reports and run their speed test.
If your speed is better than mine (or similar) you're fine. I can do raids with no problem and often run two accounts.
Regarding the SSD, I have one and I'm very happy with it. The difference in CoH is noticeable. The difference loading Windows or Photoshop (which load a ton of small files) is dramatic.
