cable modem upgrade and SSD

HI,
i had to swap my modem with Time Warner today, I had it since Feb 2005 and it started needed daily reboots.

Right now I am at 7M down and 512K up, the next tier is 15M down and 768K up, and its almost $10 more a month. My question is playing COx would it be worth it?

my game machine specs are:

I7-920
nvidia 470
Win 7 Enterprise 64 bit
12 Gig ram
and 300G 10k rpm raptor HD

I also have a killer Nic installed.

and I run at 1920X1200 on a 28 inch lcd.

also

as the 3rd gen of SSD are coming out theyare starting to be some good deals on 2nd Gen.

would that make a big difference?

Thank You

I would guess no. I can play with no lag solo and minor lag on the incarnate trials using my verizon droid incredible via pdanet and It has a download of .86 and an upload of .54

and SSD makes a big differance with load times but thats about it.I love mine I am almost always the first to load into missions

Gotta agree with Psygon.

I highly doubt the faster cable tier would make any noticeable difference. Network latency is dependent to some degree on bandwidth, of course, but not as much as other factors. The higher speed would only really affect the bandwidth from the cable company head end to your house, while most of the overall network latency comes from the rest of the Internet between the cable head end and the CoH servers. And "lag" within the game is dependent not only on network latency, but other factors as well (server load, routers, etc.). The 15Mb tier would be great for streaming HD video, though.

As for the SSD, the only real benefit would be to let you load into the game and zones faster; if you're the impatient type and have money to burn, go for it.

The big question on your cable is: are you actually getting anywhere near the speed they are charging you for? I'm pretty far from the connection point so my broadband (DSL) is pretty slow. The best they could offer me is 768 downstream. I just ran a speedtest and I'm actually getting 737 downstream and 129 up (35ms latency). Go to DSL Reports and run their speed test.

If your speed is better than mine (or similar) you're fine. I can do raids with no problem and often run two accounts.

Regarding the SSD, I have one and I'm very happy with it. The difference in CoH is noticeable. The difference loading Windows or Photoshop (which load a ton of small files) is dramatic.

No. Unless you're trying to run multiple clients simultaneously and play them all.

Honestly, a waste of money but hey... Some people put spinners on their oversized 30-something inch tires too.

For general game PERFORMANCE? No.
For game startup? Yes.
For the portions of zone loading that are dependent on disk I/O? Yes.

Warning: Stay away from the OCZ Vertex (and Vertex2) and Agility (and Agility 2) drives for not.

They did a stealth "upgrade" of their flash memory in these lines (smaller manufacturing process) without refreshing their model numbers or anything.

It reduced the capacity of the drives and performance of the drives took a nosedive as well.
