    Lag?

Solo while in a mission makes it sound like something external to the game. Other applications would be one possibility (already mentioned). Have you pulled up the netgraph while getting the lag?
    Type /netgraph 1
If will put a pretty little graph in the lower right of your screen that tells you useful things about your connection at that moment. (/netgraph 0 to turn it off)

I would have gone with 12GB if my mobo was triple channel. But that seemed overkill/too expensive at the time (~17 months ago). I'm running fine with 8GB. Running two instances is no problem. When I need to edit a screenshot, I'll load Photoshop while CoH is still running.

Plus, at all times, I have the following running:
    - SETI@home / Rosetta@home, 8 instances
    - Firefox
    - Excel
    - WinAmp (mp3 player)
    - Skype
    - Yahoo Messenger
    - Avast anti-virus
    - ZoneAlarm firewall
    - BitMeter (logs UL/DL traffic volume)
    - RealTemp (monitors CPU temp)
    - 3 instances of Notepad

That's what I did. My first character getting Lore pets is magic-based. Sadly, none of the pets available at that time were magical, but at least the Seers weren't robots or guys in tech armor.

When we got the new pets, he got the Polar Lights. It's like having my own will-o-wisps. Perfect.

Actually, I find that one pretty useless for my tanks. I already addressed any endurance issues once they hit 50 and before we had Incarnate powers. Make no mistake, though, that recharge is great on some of my other toons - but not any of my tanks.

On a tank who already has killer resistance (my invuln, stone) or massive defense (my shield tank is over 50% on all 3 categories), I went with the +regen. On anyone who depends on healing (like my /regen scrapper, or WP tank), you want Barrier for the defenses.

It's like tank sets with LAYERED defenses. Having some defense on top of good resistance is huge. In this case, if you already have the resistance or defense, add regen. If you have regen or healing, add the resistance/defense.
  6. 1. I'm thinking of Combat Jump for the defense, but will hitting jump nullify Grounded?
You bet it will. Even without Combat Jumping, you tap that spacebar and you are technically in the air and the enemy can bounce you all over the map.
    1) When fighting enemies with knockback, you need to train yourself to never touch that spacebar. You can't even step off a ledge because you're in the air while falling.
    2) Might want to get a -KNB IO. I have one on my elec/elec tank and it helps when I forget rule number 1.

    2. I've heard fighting on bridges or balcony's will negate grounded?
In theory, no. In practice, sometimes. Any solid/massive construction will be properly coded as ground. Sometimes, though, constructs like scaffolding, catwalks or cages will not register as the ground - particularly when there are many variations in level.

I never noticed this as a problem on my tank. However, I run into it frequently on my plant controller where I can't attack an enemy who is "in the air" even though we are both standing on what appears to be solid ground. And I'm not talking about enemies who are flying at ground level. I'm talking about enemies that don't even have the power of flight.

    3. Is there a "lag" period from when you jump into a mob until Grounded takes effect?
Not a noticeable one. I wouldn't worry about that. Please note, however, like any Teleport power, Lightning Rod leaves you IN THE AIR even if you are targeting a spot on the ground. It doesn't have the hover duration of Teleport, but it doesn't need to if the enemy is already shooting you. I've had situations where I'm under constant grenade attacks and use Lightning Rod. I appear amongst the enemies, my attack goes off at the right spot, and I get flung 30 feet away.

You slacker, you. I got all of my pillboxes back then and I did it the hard way. I didn't even take enemy pillboxes, which were easier. I only took out the neutral pillboxes. Because.... they gave crazy big rewards. And I did a lot of them during off hours on a Double XP Weekend.

Plus, I was working on the healing badges with my scrapper. I would set the Heavy to take out the pillboxes and I would stand out of the line of fire and do nothing but use Aid Other on the Heavy.

    tl;dr version: GRIND IT OUT!

Define "old" contacts. If you already completed his arc, you can only get it again through Ouroboros, which is really not convenient for farming. You can't invite new people once you've started the arc. Also, while you're in the arc, you're locked in task force mode.

Ideally, you are thinking about farming BEFORE you get to that mission so you know in advance to never actually complete it and just keep it on your mission list forever. If it's already too late for Unai, look at what other contacts you have not started (or are only part way through their arcs).

Yes, "but". The OP never told us what else he plans to do on the computer. Also, if he might want to run two instances of CoH, he'll be glad to have 8GB.

Second I would get rid of the aftermarket cooler and stick with the stock one. Save yourself 20 bucks. The stock cooler that comes with the 2500k is more than good enough for regular use.
Again, yes but. In my case, for example, I also run SETI@home and Rosetta@home. This means my CPU is running all 4 cores at max usage 24/7. I wasn't going to trust a stock cooler for that.

Whether leveling speed is a gameplay advantage or not is a matter of OPINION.

And so it doesn't look like a personal attack later, since neither of you have done it yet, anyone who claims it is fact, and not opinion, is an idiot.
  11. Okay, in the first three sign-ups we have thermal, bubbles and storm. I guess I don't need to bring a debuffer.

Well, he's referring to the $70 monocle in EVE Online. I don't think anyone is saying the CoH prices are outrageous (at least, not yet).

They will. There will be a number of powersets that must be purchased, even by VIP's. Of course, selling "powers" is not even close to selling "power", despite the difference of only a single letter.

I don't see any contradiction. The people leveling faster are exactly equal in power at any given level as anyone else. It's not imbalancing. The speed at which you level is really irrelevant. Some people reach 50 in 40 hours; some take 400.

Plenty of people don't WANT a leveling speed boost. Plenty of people think we level too fast already. I'm one of them.

It's not really 'helping'. It's more like 'giving sponges a free ride' and helping people get to high level with characters that they don't know how to play. Farming and PL'ing have their place, but helping new players zoom to 50 is a bad idea. It comes from the mindset that the 'real game' starts when you hit max level.

I am not sure what x8 means, but my guess is I set my difficulty to 'fight enemies +0 to me' so I can quickly and easily kill them and set myself to 'I am equal to 6 heroes' to get the big spawn. Then invite a few lower level friends and have fun.
Pretty much. +0/x6 is a good starting point. You definitely want to avoid -1 to your level since enemies lower level than you won't drop shards. Of course, if you're farming in AE, there are no shards to be had anyway.

Also, should I pick just any mission, missions that give 'standard rewards',
You won't have that option. You can only pick 'standard rewards' on missions that have been approved by the devs. As you might guess, farm missions don't get this approval.

If you want to farm for standard rewards, you need to find a regular mission to do it in. Outdoor maps are assumed. The popular ones have been Council, Freakshow and Battle Maiden. Personally, I use the 'Council Empire' mission (from Unai Kemen, I think).

Nope. The details of SG leadership have not been completely clarified for Premium players.

    2) Premium players have 2 slots, plus any they "purchased" previously. A) Does this include those slots redeemed previously via Veteran Rewards? Seems to, based on the "you won't lose your old vet reward stuff" clause, but no really firm answer on this one. And B) will those of us with dozens of characters (and only maybe 6-8 redeemed slots, none purchased) be given the choice of which of our existing characters will be ported over? I'll have a hell of a time picking to be honest, but there are about 6 that I would really hate to lose. Yes, I know they'd be waiting for me when I can get back to VIP status, but I'd love to have access to them sooner.
You get a base number of 2 slots plus any 'purchased' or 'earned'. Purchased includes the expansion (I forget which) that gave 2 extra slots, plus any you brought outright. Earned includes the vet rewards ones - you do not lose those.

When you become Premium, you will be given a set of 'tokens' where you CHOOSE which characters across all servers will be accessible. As a 54 month vet, that's 4 bonus slots for a total of 6 - plus any you may have bought. You'll get to pick which 6 (or more) characters will be unlocked.

    3) If one goes into every character and emails their influence and enhancements (assuming one is really, really paranoid about losing the SG base and characters in the switch) to one's global, how safe would that be, given the distinction between Free and Premium players, and the overall issues with huge Issue related changes? I know this one is pure conjecture, but I was hoping someone may have insight into how Issue releases can / have messed with outstanding emails. Of course, this carries its own risks, if the I21 release is more than 60 days from my last day of account play, I'd lose them all... bah!
In my opinion, bad plan. Even under normal conditions, items in email can go poof if the global server sneezes. My suggestion: since you're paying now, keep paying. If you're going to let your subscription lapse, wait for the Freedom release date to be announced then renew a week ahead of that. If you are VIP status at the time of the change-over, you have no worries. Then you'll have a few weeks to read up on the finalized details of SG's, the Consignment House, etc and be able to make a fully informed decision.

    4) Just how "Limited" will Premium access to the Auction House be??? Those stored enhancements and my crafting badges aren't nearly as important if I suddenly can't get reasonable access to the AH.
Dunno. I haven't paid attention to that aspect at all.

Keep in mind, new players are even more likely to need things explained while still in the tutorial. The current tutorial is an actual zone and not just an instance. This means you can create a character in there and log out. The character can stay in the tutorial forever. If the new one works the same way, you can make a permanent 'greeter' who lives in the tutorial.
  19. On my 2nd through 4th characters created, the numbers are 690, 812 and 647. The first character number is not useful since he's my badge hunter and some badges used to have crazy numbers so that AFK farming (damage, healing) was the only way to get them. His number is 10,553 hours.
  20. On account of the Double XP Weekend, we will be departing for one week from our 'schedule'. The ITF seems to be one of the most preferred activities for Double XP, so we're going there too.

This is a co-op task force so all alignments can join. Since the task force is in Cimerora, you must be a member of the Midnighter Club to get there. The contact for the arc to join the Club is Montague Castanella in Steel Canyon for heroes and Ashley McKnight in Cap au Diable for villains.

Not a good attitude for the devs to embrace. One of the 'Extra Credits' videos on The Escapist site is about microtransactions. The narrator makes the point:
    Quote:
Somebody at EA once asked James, "How many players who are not paying me do you expect me to buy bandwidth for?" James's answer was, "As many as you can get." Here's why: In a multi-player game, players ARE content. We all know that no matter how good the mechanics of a game are, it's no fun to play if it's a ghost town.
