Grounded questions

I've started an Ela/Ele tank, and only lvl 9 right now. Reading up on the powers I really like Grounded, but I have some questions. I've heard different things about what constitutes being in contact with the ground. All my toons have SJ (I tend to get stuck in trees with Fly).
1. I'm thinking of Combat Jump for the defense, but will hitting jump nullify Grounded?
2. I've heard fighting on bridges or balcony's will negate grounded?
3. Is there a "lag" period from when you jump into a mob until Grounded takes effect?

Any other info that I need to know or any advice you all have would be great!

1. The KB protection does not work off the ground, but the Immob protection does IIRC.

2. In my experience, the situations where you need extra KB protection are extremely rare, so it's nothing to worry about.

3. Probably, but by the time mobs attack you the protection will take effect.

I have a SS/ElA brute, and I get knocked back so infrequently that I'm surprised every time it happens. Grounded works almost all the time, so it's worth taking.

Try it out, and if the rare occasions where you get knocked back really bug you (and you have a slot to spare), you can get one of the -KB IOs (Karma, Steadfast or Breath of the Zephyr).

Ok to answer your question
1. when in the air yes it dose and you can get KBed. But if you are and once you get on the ground it seems to go away.
2. No you are still on the ground.
3. That I have not seen on any of me ele/ toons.

Grounded gives you a little over 15 KB protection there is no need to take them unless you want a hover tank. It is the second best KB power protection. Only one higher is the kehlds dwarf form.

Grounded has 15 points of KB protection, higher than most other tank primaries, which have 10 points. However, according to City of Data, here:

http://tomax.cohtitan.com/data/power...Armor.Grounded

Grounded has no KB resistance, unlike most other tank primaries. I'm not sure exactly how many attacks with resistable KB have a mag of more than 15, but it has to be a tiny number. In practical terms, however, I believe that the difference will be that it is possible for KB from multiple attacks to stack and and overwhelm Grounded, but it would be very rare. KB protection powers that also high levels of KB resistance will not have that issue.

1. I'm thinking of Combat Jump for the defense, but will hitting jump nullify Grounded?
You bet it will. Even without Combat Jumping, you tap that spacebar and you are technically in the air and the enemy can bounce you all over the map.
1) When fighting enemies with knockback, you need to train yourself to never touch that spacebar. You can't even step off a ledge because you're in the air while falling.
2) Might want to get a -KNB IO. I have one on my elec/elec tank and it helps when I forget rule number 1.

2. I've heard fighting on bridges or balcony's will negate grounded?
In theory, no. In practice, sometimes. Any solid/massive construction will be properly coded as ground. Sometimes, though, constructs like scaffolding, catwalks or cages will not register as the ground - particularly when there are many variations in level.

I never noticed this as a problem on my tank. However, I run into it frequently on my plant controller where I can't attack an enemy who is "in the air" even though we are both standing on what appears to be solid ground. And I'm not talking about enemies who are flying at ground level. I'm talking about enemies that don't even have the power of flight.

3. Is there a "lag" period from when you jump into a mob until Grounded takes effect?
Not a noticeable one. I wouldn't worry about that. Please note, however, like any Teleport power, Lightning Rod leaves you IN THE AIR even if you are targeting a spot on the ground. It doesn't have the hover duration of Teleport, but it doesn't need to if the enemy is already shooting you. I've had situations where I'm under constant grenade attacks and use Lightning Rod. I appear amongst the enemies, my attack goes off at the right spot, and I get flung 30 feet away.

1. That's when it happens most often from my experience.

2. I've never seen my brute kb'd while on a bridge or scaffold, but I have on occassion seen him on his behind from a steep slope in a cave.

3. I suppose lag is possible, but I've not experienced it causing this kind of issue.

Just to add here, grounded works when you are on or near the ground. You can use combat jumping, as long as your feet don't leave the ground by more than about 2 or 3 feet, you will still have the KB protection
