Quote:What about it being slightly weaker to s/l and stronger to exotics? I'm sure a lot of people would take tough/weave with this set like other resist based sets, anyway.Actually, I wonder if we could make it weak to cold damage instead of negative. I like your idea of the puking animation but how many people would get grossed out ALL THE TIME with enemies constantly puking on their character? haha
As to the other suggestions for the hold toggle, what about a minor debuff to special effects? Like 10%? -
Quote:Boomie is the name of the poster who had the Elec/Cold that has soloed pylons, AVs, GMs, and entire TFs.from what ive seen and heard, almost anything will go great with /cold lol
the only one i dont think will benefit as much from it will be mind since it has no pets to buff
the ill/cold i have is godly at taking down tough targets, perma PA perma heat loss perma benumb and perma sleet just floor baddies lol
the other combo i have seen someone do good with is elec/cold, which they had screenshots of them soloing a pylon in RWZ (i cant find the thread with it atm)
plant/cold will also be very nice too especially once the change is made to buffs cause then you can cast carrion creepers and then your ice shields and will buff all of them just because you can lol
so yeah, basically anything with pets and /cold will be a killer lol
edit: i read what you said about buff botting, and cold is definitely not a buff bot, you dont even have to use the buffs really unless your team or pets need the extra safety net
I agree than any of the primaries will work with /cold. However, Mind/ wouldn't take full advantage due to a lack of pets you could buff. -
EDIT: I rechecked it and realized you are using short export. Just don't use the export set bonus or the set bonus breakdown options.
First off, I recommend you use the Short Export option in Mids when posting builds. Saves everyone scroll time. Alternatively, you could just post a data link/chunk. You don't really need to post the set breakdowns or anything like that.
Second - rule of 5. This pertains to IO set bonuses. You can only have 5 of a particular bonus value (i.e. 5x 5% recharge or 10% regen). Additional bonuses of the same type after you've reached that limit of 5 are ignored. Your posted build doesn't break this rule, by the way and you can check it if you click on the View Active Sets in Mids. If you breach the limit, it'll tell you you've done so.
Finally, your build. When you say you want an AE DPS build, do you mean Architect Entertainment or Area of Effect? Either way, Ice Mastery has been the goto pool because of Sleet and Frozen Armor allowing some to softcap s/l defense, too. That said, don't be deterred from using Pyre Mastery. With that pool I would swap Melt Armor for Rain of Fire.
I tossed this together for you:

Quote:Take everything from elec/ and everything from /ice except Greater Ice Sword because it's poo. Take those powers early if possible. Some things like Taunt and Build Up can be pushed back a little bit as can Lightning Field. For power pools, Speed for Hasten, Leaping for Combat Jumping are good starting points. One of the travel powers from either pool would be good. The fighting pool is a good addition to the build, as well. Boxing can fill in your attack chain early on but will lose its usefulness as you progress. Tough will enhance your resistance to smashing and lethal attacks (the most common types). Weave is good but only when you start building with IOs (and if you're going the s/l defense route).I recently made an Elec/Ice tank via random dice roll to pick what new character to play as, and am really enjoying my self so far.
I was wondering if I could get some help for down the line. Just to bring out the best I can for this combo.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. (build wise or just some tips to use the powers to their top potential)
*note I would make a MIds attempt at this my self but this is my first Chara with either one of these sets so i do not know the powers well enough*
Gameplay wise, if you're consistently getting on teams, I would suggest focusing on survivability more than damage. The opposite can be said if you solo more. If I were leveling an elec/ice I'd probably do something like this:

Oh Confront. How I used to spam the crap out of you on my dm/sr. Tanked literally everything I could get. Buffed LR if I had a jetpack, but I've done all 4 of his inner circle. I have held aggro on most of the Heroes at the end of the LRSF, too. Was a bit easier then because I had ToF, too, so I would just spam Confront and ToF and squeeze in attacks to hold aggro.
-
I threw together another alternative to look over. It's a bit more expensive. Moreover, I rearranged the build and dropped a travel power. I don't have my dm/sr's build handy but I think this build should be able to run the MG>Smite>SL>Smite attack chain and with the way SL is slotted (and according to Mids) you're getting almost 300hp back per SL - without having to interrupt your attacks to use HF. HF is still there for any big hits you get though.
If you want to get a little more out of your resist numbers, you could swap Reactive Armor: res/rech for the endredux IOs in your toggles. I don't foresee endurance being problematic with both DC and Consume recharging in under a minute. Shadow Meld also has a 50% up time - so it should be up for every fight. If not, you could grab Barrier for your destiny and chain them. Or you could pop 2 small purples to hit the softcap for s/l/e/n.
For the Incarnate slots, I already mentioned Barrier for Destiny. Here are some other thoughts:
Alpha - Spiritual
Judgement - All are nice. Pyronic or Void would fit, conceptually, with your build.
Interface - Largely to taste. Reactive is popular but I think any of them would hold some benefit.
Lore - Again, to taste, in my opinion (haven't tried them all yet).
Destiny - Barrier mainly. Ageless for the debuff resistance, though.

Quote:Mine is slotted 1 LotG: Recharge, 2 Membranes, and then frankenslotted with endmod sets. I think an endmod/endredux from efficacy adaptor and then an endmod/rech and endmod from performance shifter. I don't have access to my build to double check. Thanks peeps!
Soul Mastery is awesome!
Nothing like a Build Up->Dark Oblivion->Fire Sword Circle->Combustion->Energy Absorption to start off!
Speaking about Energy Absorption, how do I slot it?
I'm kinda lost...
Granted it is passable without the endmod enhancement, but it pays off when fighting single hard targets. Enhancing the endmod aspect also adds another layer of mitigation via end drain, but that's really only effective when you can get EA back up in under 20 seconds. -

Quote:lol I just looked at the new build. Very nice being softcapped to s/l/e/n. I'm not too crazy about the lower regen and recharge numbers, but nice work, anyway.that's what I did.
I stand at 42% S/L/E/N actually with the "char" build, and will upgrade it to 45% with Glads as soon as I have the money (need 1b more ... I'll need to farm a bit)
it's really nice, I have no difficulty tanking anything from TF to trials, and that's why this toon was made !
thanks for the input, It definitively helped me ! -
Farming runs on the motto "the best defense is a good offense", which is why ss/fire is a popular combo to run farms with. You can use almost anything to farm. May not be as fast as top-end ss/fire brutes, but it can still be efficient (especially if you're utilizing AE to make mobs your character is strong against).

Quote:The scaling resistance and nigh immunity to defense debuffs are where SR shines. My DM/SR may have a bad day with the RNG, but it's never been enough (outside of AVs) that I haven't been able to heal back up through regen, the 270hp heal I get from SL every 4-5 seconds, and the 571hp heal from Aid Self. I actually rarely use Aidself unless things get really bad and I have to back off for a moment. I could probably drop it but I dunno what to replace it with, especially now that he's using Hibernate (which also rarely gets clicked).Super Reflexes has scaling resistance, which I think is much more helpful than most people realize. It's not that great against AV-sized hits, but it's quite good for most of the game. Add a bunch of hit points, pick up Tough, have high regeneration or a spam heal to keep your hit points topped up, and stop worrying about the random number generator.
I don't consider Shield's resistance to be any better, though the hit points are nice. The main thing going for Shields is the damage output, not any additional survivability over Super Reflexes.
I'm not denying the utility of soft capping a resistance set, or that Super Reflexes can't have a bad day when the RNG hates you, but a well-built Super Reflexes isn't nearly so subject to the whims of the RNG as is perhaps commonly believed. -
Quote:I'll echo a vote for soul mastery, if only for DN. However, it should be noted that the -tohit you'll be getting is heavily resisted by AVs. The -dmg, though, is not, and stacked with CE you get 35% in -dmg. Then if you were to take the Void Radial route for Judgement, you can periodically add another 50% -dmg to those numbers (and more if you go with the interface that provides -dmg).Another vote for Soul Mastery here - love it on my Ice/DM tank. I usually only bother putting darkest night out if it's a particularly strong psi enemy (e.g. Carnie Master Illusionist), an AV, or there's just an unusually high number of mobs for whatever reason - but when it is out it helps significantly. The Blood Widow helps out the DPS every now and then too (though keeping her alive isn't always easy).
I too went villain just long enough to unlock then came back blue side again, and having respeced just the other day I too can confirm you'll still have access to all patron pools and all hero APP's even once you are fully hero again.
If you build your tank to have higher HP and regen numbers, that -dmg adds up and will allow you to take on foes you thought you were weak against (psi attacks, namely). -
Quote:I think ~42% defense without the GA +3% is pretty decent. I have an arch/def blaster that runs ~43% range defense and rarely gets hit. I'm now thinking of building my ss/elec brute to just over 40% and leaving it at that. Just pop a purple if you're facing mobs with defense debuffs and I think it'll be good enough.Ok cool looking solid. I'll have a look at ur build on mids wen I get back home. Your rite about the GA it is expensive, maybe a goal for later? You can use your hero merits to get it, it takes time but is a better option over 2billion. As for stone (i know not everyone likes it) it definatly can get in the way of being conceptual but I just found it the best way to softcap, and I used it for the guide intentionlly so just ignore it. There are otherways to get to softcap using fire.
Ill have a look at the build alittle later -
When I originally threw together a build for my km/regen, I went for melee defense. I've now since opted to shoot for s/l defense as it will also cover some ranged attacks. I think most pure elemental attacks are ranged, but a lot of them have a smash or lethal part to them.
I don't have the build on my laptop so I can't post it. I do know she has 33% s/l defense and enough recharge combined with global bonuses, hasten, and the spiritual alpha to have overlapping DP, 17sec Recon, 100sec downtime on IH, MoG in under 70sec, and Shadow
Meld in 35sec I believe. Due to the lower acc numbers of kinetic combat, I might opt to use Nerve in my alpha. I haven't looked into it yet, though. -
To keep your damage up and avoid downtimes of rage crashing. However, if you have accuracy issues with +4s then you probably want to use rage, anyway.
-
My Ice/Ice tank can do AE ambush farms set to +4/8 in just under 6 minutes. Not the fastest when compared to ss/fire brutes, but still respectable in my opinion. That's with Incarnate powers. Without them I believe I was running closer to 7 minutes.
Just chug reds instead of using Rage. Making binds or macros to continually make reds speeds things up quite a bit and is recommended you look into it. -
Full sets of Makos and Touch of Deaths will probably be cheaper than the kinetic combats you have. On that note, when softcapping defense sets you want to try to get bonuses that compliment your type of defense (positional or typed). SR is positional. Unfortunately sets that give large positional bonuses usually require all 6 pieces of the set, but it is more efficient that using things like kinetic combats, which are pretty expensive as meleers using resistance sets aim for lots of s/l defense.
Since you're on a tighter budget and not going for an optimal attack chain (which includes MG), I'd suggest you skip recharge bonuses and focus on softcapping defense and then getting +hp and +regen to further increase your survivability.
Once you've acquired the means to upgrade you build, go for the extra recharge (while keeping the rest of your bonuses).
Here's my DM/SR's current build for you to peruse and extrapolate ideas from if you wish. It's pretty expensive, mind you.

By 'particular' I meant a particular value. So you can have 5x 5%, 5x 6.25%, etc...
If you want to get as much recharge as possible you'll have to get some purples and luck of the gambler: +recharge IOs. If you don't want to delve into purples yet, you can have a decent mix of defense and recharge. Just take a look at what I did with the km/regen build i posted earlier in the thread and use it as a base for your build.
Or try this one I threw together. I don't think the accuracy of the attacks is high enough for +4 enemies, but you could remedy that with the Nerve alpha.

You cannot have more than 5 of a particular set bonus. On that note, what is the goal of your build?
-
You should be able to find some elec/psi builds within the first 5 pages of the dom forums.
As for attaining permadom, getting to the point where you can maintain it isn't super expensive as you only need (i recommend) at least 85% global recharge from IO sets and hasten - 3 slotted with recharge IOs. -
Quote:On my ss/elec brute I have power sink 4 slotted with efficacy adaptor (endmod/rech and endmod/endredux), performance shifter: endmod/rech, and a common rech IO.nice idea for the force feedback proc ! I like it.
I'm not using energize only for the end reduction, but it contributes for it a lot.
I'm still with a 2/sec end recovery + proc without it, when super speed is off, that's more than enough.
I also like the idea of power sink instead of hurl, whith what would you slot it ? -
I would sacrifice an obliteration to get a force feedback proc in footstomp. But before that, I would highly recommend dropping hurl for power sink. Power sink adds another layer of mitigation to your defenses by draining endurance from foes and giving it to you. This build looks like it relies on energize to help with endurance consumption, but you should be using that as a heal, instead.
-
This is my km/regen's planned build. She's currently at level 33. Has 33% s/l defense and a fair amount of recharge. This build may not directly translate into a stalker build, but it can at least give you some ideas.

That all really depends on you. Your playstyle and/or any issues you have with your character (such as survivability). Of course, those types of things mainly effect Destiny and Interface. Lore and Judgement you can pick whatever and be stronger for it (Judgement could be picked according to playstyle, too, as they are differing AoE types). Unfortunately, none of the alpha trees offer your build any significant improvements, so you can pick whichever you'd like. I'd say Musculature to enhance your attacks that don't have any damage enhancement or are under ED caps. Or you could core cardiac for the +range.
Based on your build, alone, I'll make the following suggestions:
Alpha: Musculature or Cardiac
Judgement: Pyronic
Destiny: Barrier
Lore: Any
Interface: Reactive -
I think while it works well with stalagmites, it counteracts the effects of quicksand and earthquake. So I suppose you could skip it or respec out of it later. Good question as that hadn't even occured to me.
