I was on last night and the game was unplayable.
Running a /netgraph 1 showed instead of mown grass I had a graph like this ..I..I.I.I.IIII..I.I
with constant red spikes and yet a ping of only 200 or so. I logged into Truimph and got ......................... looks like I may have to move to a new server. It may be just the impact of so many new players but whatever the cause I can't play when I die 3 times due to lag freeze in 10 minutes. -
Best team tank? A Fire/dark or Ice/Dark corruptor - yes seriously. Only a handful of AVs can harm you and your damage is very good.
If you insist on Melee I would go with Super Strength/Dark or Electric/Sheild. -
Here are some notes from Newegg:
1. DDR3 1866(OC)/1333/1066 *To reach DDR3 1866MHz or above, you must install two memory modules and install them in the DDR3_3 and DDR3_4 memory sockets.
2. Having looked at your memory on Newegg and reading the reveiws - i would return your ram and get the Mushkin or G Skill Ripjaw series - slightly more money but far more stable.
Edit further research:
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800
DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Timing 7-8-7-24-2N
Cas Latency 7
A-DATA Gaming Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model AX3U1600GB2G9-2G
DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Timing 9-9-9-24
Cas Latency 9
The quality difference is very apparent in the CAS latency and timings - the higher quality Ram (G Skill) is MUCH lower in latency (lag) and the lower timings mean faster as well. -
Often certain memory types can be unstable in one type of motherboard and fine in another.
Personally I would look at which memory type other used to build a system on Newegg and use those sticks.
Another issue is memory timings, aggressive faster settings can cause issues.
I would from your posts assume the memory has issues with that board or those settings. I would slow the memory down to 1333 to see if it becomes stable if so incrementally increase power until you are able to raise the speed of the Ram - I would not go above 1.8 or 1.85. -
Disciple of Burn - Pure white/blue flame dances over his body and he is scarred by its very touch and yet heals as it passes - he feels each touch and is seared to his soul. Thus his next Sermon on the Church of Burn is born of the sacrifice of pain and the cleansing of its touch.
Thwak - Bersark and in surrender to its madness. Thwak uses a sword and his willpower to fuel his endless hunger for Justice and Right. Surrounded by evil with gore dripping from his face he sings loudly, "I won't back down" by Tom Petty.
Mab Queen of Winter - she is beauty and terror a mask that shifts back and forth. The cold of winter and yet the promise of spring. She is a Queen and powerful beyond reckoning and yet, when the Universe began it sprung from the depths of her frozen hands and as it winds down it will grow cold and dark again as she once again awaits the spring. -
This is what I think of when rolling with my DM/Sheild scrapper Grizzl
Monster by Skillet:
The secret side of me, I never let you see
I keep it caged but I can't control it
So stay away from me, the beast is ugly
I feel the rage and I just can't hold it
It's scratching on the walls, in the closet, in the halls
It comes awake and I can't control it
Hiding under the bed, in my body, in my head
Why won't somebody come and save me from this, make it end?
I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I hate what I've become, the nightmare's just begun
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
My secret side I keep hid under lock and key
I keep it caged but I can't control it
'Cause if I let him out he'll tear me up, break me down
Why won't somebody come and save me from this, make it end?
I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I hate what I've become, the nightmare's just begun
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
It's hiding in the dark, it's teeth are razor sharp
There's no escape for me, it wants my soul, it wants my heart
No one can hear me scream, maybe it's just a dream
Maybe it's inside of me, stop this monster
I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I hate what I've become, the nightmare's just begun
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I've gotta lose control, he something radical
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster -
We had a team of 7 and near as I can remember:
1 - Fire/Dark corr (me)
2 - Ice/Rad
3 and 4 - DP/Kin
5 and 6 - AR/Traps
7. DP/ something
We didn't have bubbles, thermals or cold shields.
It was all damage + buffs/debuffs for the win! -
Mab Queen of Winter.
She is based off of Jim Butcher's queen of the Winter Court. I also had the good luck one night at 2am to play with Jim Butcher on his Harry dresden - character. It was great fun. -
Last night I joined an all Corruptor ITF and offered my Fire/Dark corr as the tank.
I was killed once in the 2nd mission when as it can happen my Defense shield rolled all snake eyes and I got the instant death drop. After that we proceeded to successfully roll thru all the missions - in most cases we killed everything in the way.
On the third mission we avoided the valley of lag by killing everything. When we moved to the AV's I pulled the entire platform and we fought both AV's and their friends at once. One newer player was amazed - he kept saying what about the last AV?
On the last mission we walked down the road to the left slaughtering everything. Once at the platform I pulled the entire platform and then we got ready for Romulous.
I was able to paint him with darkest night and pull him into the grass on the left. Then with taunt (yes, I have Provoke on my corr) I was able to keep full aggro on him as we debuffed and slaughtered him. Other than my own death and 2 others dying to ambushes we rolled without any dangers. The one new player was freaked out - he kept saying how can we be doing this?????
What crazy things have you done with your Corruptors that caused people to be amazed? -
Fire/Dark Corrupter.
In my experience once fully IO'd out they are the most powerful characters in the PvE game.
There is very little that can bother me and I routinely go off and herd groups solo in 8 man missions. -
I gave up on PvP for this game.
Repeatedly myself and others have tried to address the problems and how they can be fixed. All of our input was wasted.
Look the fixes are fairly simple to make it fun:
Capture the flag - use a gameplay similar to Halflife Team Fortress Classic. The old Dustbowl map is a classic and would be a welcome addition. Imagince if defenders could buff walls that sealed off a flag - if they could heal damaged fortifications.
Escort or briefcase missions. What if you have to get a case out of a building in a 10 minute timer? All while facing a torrent of damage and defenders/controllers raising walls and slowing you down. Then since its a tournament setting you get to defend yourself next time.
The game is made to have awesome battles instead we get a boring arena or a wide open strafe festival. You get flavor of the month builds that are untouchable by normal heroes instead of jobs given for each class.
I have seen nothing approaching the true creativity that could make this an amazing PvP game. -
Both of you ignore one thing - The Fire/Kin!
I don't care what Brute you take if the fire/kin keeps opening with a group immob he is going to keep dying.
If you want to get aggro take taunt - its a good control power and since it drops range it can keep those controllers out of the line of fire. -
I have a 50 Fire/Dark corr (villain) who is completely Io'd out and can even tank the ITF and solo some AV's.
Let me know if you need me I am @iron on global and my character is Disciple of Burn. -
Personally I would go with an Ax/WP or SS/WP Brute.
They are seriously powerful one shot and have a nice couple AoE's. Mostly to pull the aggro I would take the rarely used Presence Pool and Provoke and even the nice fear powers. Adding those to the WP aura and Taunt along with your individual attacks you should be able to hold aggro from those fragile Imps.
Here is a little added suggestion:
Many controllers/Corrs/Doms open with a mass immobilization or large AoE attack and don't let the melee get good aggro. The key is to count to 4 or 5 after the Brute/Tank goes in before you try to hold the group. The normal thing I see is as I run in they slap an immob on and draw all the alpha to themselves. If they paused a few seconds they wouldn't draw so much aggro. Think it through you slap an Immob on that not only ticks them off it keeps ticking them off as the DoT hits for the next 10 seconds.
So the main goal is survival for the squishie and the saying I love to use is:
I can't tank stupid. If the squishie is randomly using DoT attacks without using line of sight tricks he/she will get dead quickly. Let's say the controller uses an Immob its fine if they hit only one corner of the group with the rest on of sight because then you only have to take aggro from 2 or 3 in the group so they don't hit the troller.
In a duo the pattern of play is just as important as the critters involved. I always count to 4 on my blasters/controllers before I attack a group - except Plant trollers because Seeds is the rare exception to aggro. I would even highly recommend a Plant/Kin controller as a more powerful partner for a Brute. -
I would Highly recommend:
A Rad/Dark Corr and a Spines/Dark Scrapper.
With lowered defense from the Radiation, lowered resistance from the dark and adding to that the ungodly aoe spray from the scrapper its a pair made in heaven. -
I have been playing this game nearly on a daily basis now for over 6 years. In that time I have seen many things come and go with this game, this new installment is a very welcome addition to the game.
Let's address the Ugly first:
1. The Market - yes, we know it is unavoidable but to go from a thriving if odd market to not having any of the common items available is a tough one. The fix - is on all of us to fix it post everything you have out for sale if you don't need it - that will cause it to recover more quickly.
2. Lag - can't be helped with the numbers of people on so - I am not complaining - in fact much of the lag I was getting with Issue 17 appears to be improved.
That's about all I have for Ugly!
The Bad:
1. Very linear - I get why it's linear as you are being funnelled to a goal. I do find it so different from the rest of the game in being so directed. It's a well directed script but it does feel like a script - that said - Viva la Resistance!
2. Difficulty balance - the game plays VERY different on a Dom or blaster than on a Brute, Tank or Scrapper. My poor Dom got smoked so very many times by the ambushes that I started carrying 2 greens and 8 blues so I could try and survive. The required solo mission ambushes are brutal to squishies. I ran a Brute thru the same arcs and she hasn't even gotten into the yellow yet. The balance is painful but unless you somehow buff the squishies I don't see how you can change it.
3. No Market in Neutropolis - really need one there at this level or you are running from the serwers back to the train selling/buying and back into the sewers.
4. No University or labs in Neutropolis either.
The Good:
1. So much good with new enemies, new powers, new zones and changes in the balance with all powersets up for grabs now.
2. Morality missions - where do you stand - free will or common good. Thoughts many people may never have entertained. So pull up a long cold drink of self awareness and see how your choices help/hurt or change people. I would highly recommend some arcs on drug abuse being built - with how its starts small and in the end eats a persons life. A great tool that really could be a boon to mankind in teaching self awareness and free will's cost.
3. A great mix of I, Robot and the Demolition man. -
Funny, I was thinking the animations for Kinetic Melee look like the Robotic Richard Simmons.
Maybe its just me............... -
You see exactly what I expected.
Look thru the sheer number of threads with current issues, or you can make personal attacks and ignore the fact I AM A TECHNICIAN - I can read the same exact diagnostic logs you can.
I have a serious advantage - I have the system IN FRONT OF ME.
One more time and I am typing slowly so you may understand - Issue 16 - PERFECT 90+ FPS with busy areas bringing me to 40ish at times. Issue 17 downloads - I go from 70+ FPS at absolute minimum settings to at times 3 FPS just panning or crossing a zone.
In missions it can go from 100+ FPS to 1 FPS at the drop of a hellion. I am not the only one. In every team I have been in the last month or so we have mapservers, lag, rubberbanding and random DC's.
I would appreciate you ignoring me in the future Fitzsimmons and I will do you the same courtesy. -
If you don't just blow sunshine up the CoX nether regions the horde of apologists will swarm you.
How dare you insinuate that the game is not the best thing in the known universe!
Well how about we fix the damn lag! It's not just me the vast majority of players I have teamed with are DC'ing, mapservering and like I just did lagging to death repeatedly. Since Issue 17 this game is an abomination of a lagfest.
Repeated threads, different people and not one word from a Dev or technician on what the problem IS.
I have lowered my graphics so now I can go from a steady 70+ FPS to an instant 3 fps as I cross a zone. In most missions its fine but at times its a slide show and the Villain side is the worst by far. I have a freaking nVidia 8800GT with the newest drivers. I have gone thru my entire system repeatedly to update/down grade and generally wasted hours trying to solve the warping, rubberbanding and general lag.
I have run Adaware, Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, Defragged DAILY, keep my anti-virus up to date and inspected my DXdiag and other diagnostics to exasperation.
Still it comes back to the Issue 17 download. One day I was playing everything perfectly fine - Issue 17 downloads and now I am ready to throw it in and after 6 years of play this is more than annoying.
IT IS THE GAME.
I know some of you say - I have no problem! Well wonderful for you there are some of us who are at wits end trying to fix something that went from perfect to nearly unplayable. -
1. Auto teaming button.
You can click - Auto Team and any team that is set to accept auto team players - gets a member Automagically!
2. Buy recipe contents - click on a recipe you own and it automagically lists all the salvage and allows you to buy them all directly from there. -
Great to know the 12 hour maintenance "fixed" the server issues.

Pay attention to Suichiro,
A fire/dark can be many things.
I run mine as a tank and I made him an AoE machine.
How I fight:
If I am solo or lead tank I will zip forward with Shadowfall on and Superspeed.
I Paint a target with Darkest night and zoom back to my team pulling 2 groups. I move out of line of sight and drop tarpit. As they hit tarpit I use Howling Twilight (an amazing hold/stun that also slows and occasionally can rez someone) I then use fear and Rain of fire.
At this point if in a team I drop Darkest night and zip to the NEXT 2 groups - I then rinse/repeat and can usually use the same tarpit 2 pulls.
I took the Ghost Widow epic and Temp Invul, Fortuna pet, power boost.
In tanking AV's the 2 pets are nice and the Power Boost makes all the secondary effects much more powerful. So my heal can heal for over 600 points, the debuffs make anything miss and in an ITF speed run I can solo the Crystals if needed without fear.
Fire/Dark corrs are possibly the most powerful characters in the game. A slightly better tank is an Ice/Dark corr. The slows and blizzard/tarpit make them very effective as a tank. -
Corruptors are beyond good.
Blasters are fine except they are damage with small amounts of control. A Corruptor has both. Any */Dark corruptor is game changing.
A */Kin can multiply his damage using Fulcrum shift and with transference he can:
Fulcrum shift
Nuke
Pop a blue and use transference and be completely full of end again.
There is no comparison of a blaster versus a Corruptor in any case I can think of the corruptor can multiply his and his teams damage and do so more safely. Going Rogue will allow you to see this if you haven't already thru mixed team Trials. -
Quote:Yes, ADSL. I normally average a little over 1 M bit/s on large downloads, in the 140k bytes/s range.
I'm using a wireless router. I wonder if there's a general network/download test I could use when I'm having problems to test my connection.

I was doing a little studying of the pwersets and it appears to be a real strong set.
Wondered if anyone had experience of it?
