Really??? Cant We just get the bugs fixed?
If you honestly expect there never to be any issues then yes you are fooling yourself. Paid services have trouble. It happens, whether it's paid or free, that bugs come up. Especially when you are dealing with millions and millions of line of code. Is it frustrating, yes? Is it the end of the world? Hell no.

North American Servers Emergency Maintenance Thursday August 5, 2010 The North American Servers will be brought down for emergency Maintenance on Thursday August 5, 2010 at 2pm CST for approximately 2 hours. During this period, Wentworths and the Black Market as well as Architect Entertainment will be unavailable for our EU customers as well. Thanks for your patience, __________________ -The Ocho- Aka Mod08 |
As for the DB error, it is not always on their end.
Right.
The lack of attention is why they're bringing the NA servers down. Yep. Makes perfect sense. Not trying to fix anything right now, they just thought they'd do it for laughs. And of course, the people developing powers, tweaking them for GR release, doing artwork, etc - yep, they should just switch *right* over to working on networks, running back and forth daily to both data centers.
I understand the servers coming down I understand "it might not be there issue" in all cases. my case it isent my system, or my ISP, or my router, or my connection speed, or my firewall. this has to do with parts of the game that have not been repaired that have remained "broken" for some time that is a criticle part of normal day to day running of the game. I aplaud what direction the game is going but i still think that some things need to be fixed before they move on to other things.
cough the 3rd mission on the itf would be really nice fix
Filing bug reports, and petitions work to a degree. But I have to admit the time it actually takes to get a actuale responce is much to be desired.

As leader, I filed a petition for assistance. We got a GM response. He took a few minutes to investigate the situation and said it appeared the mission was bugged. He advised he could not simply teleport the enemy to us, due to the bug, and would auto-complete the mission for us, asking if that was okay. I said it was. He completed it. Total time from petition to mission complete: 13 minutes. (I actually used a stopwatch, out of curiosity.)
BTW, I play a lot and, as best I can recall, this is the second petition I have had to file this year due to being stuck. So while we certainly run into bugs, very few of them are actually game-stopping.

There's been thousands of ITFs run since they put it into the game. That third mission, while laggy as hell, hasn't stopped one of them from being completed. That falls into the "we'll adjust it when we have time" category.
Unplayable would be like the previous example where the mission couldn't be completed, if it happened every time a player went in, or most of the time if they had similar setups. Or a repeatable game crash. These are "we're working on solutions and will get them in the game as soon as we can" kind of stuff.
There are unplayable bugs getting fixed all the time. Just cruise through some old patch notes. Some of them pop back up on occasion when something else gets changed, but that doesn't mean they're not actively fixing bugs. Knowing they exist and knowing how to fix it are two very different steps in the process.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
If you don't just blow sunshine up the CoX nether regions the horde of apologists will swarm you.
How dare you insinuate that the game is not the best thing in the known universe!
Well how about we fix the damn lag! It's not just me the vast majority of players I have teamed with are DC'ing, mapservering and like I just did lagging to death repeatedly. Since Issue 17 this game is an abomination of a lagfest.
Repeated threads, different people and not one word from a Dev or technician on what the problem IS.
I have lowered my graphics so now I can go from a steady 70+ FPS to an instant 3 fps as I cross a zone. In most missions its fine but at times its a slide show and the Villain side is the worst by far. I have a freaking nVidia 8800GT with the newest drivers. I have gone thru my entire system repeatedly to update/down grade and generally wasted hours trying to solve the warping, rubberbanding and general lag.
I have run Adaware, Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, Defragged DAILY, keep my anti-virus up to date and inspected my DXdiag and other diagnostics to exasperation.
Still it comes back to the Issue 17 download. One day I was playing everything perfectly fine - Issue 17 downloads and now I am ready to throw it in and after 6 years of play this is more than annoying.
IT IS THE GAME.
I know some of you say - I have no problem! Well wonderful for you there are some of us who are at wits end trying to fix something that went from perfect to nearly unplayable.
Hades I'm far from an apologist. I'm a downright sarcastic sonof a *****and critical of things I shouldn't even be critical of.
That being said I think it is your issue and not an issue with the game.
Point us to the thread where you posted your HijackThis and COhHelper.
Right after this ultramode crap released there was one major issue affecting a lot of players and it had to do with input lag and game priority. That was fixed.
So do you mind taking a step back, maybe open up a new thread and calmly explain your issue? Maybe even post the logs so people trying to help won't have to guess at what your problem is?
If not, enjoy the unplayable game. I've been enjoying a playable one.
Regards,
Fitz
You see exactly what I expected.
Look thru the sheer number of threads with current issues, or you can make personal attacks and ignore the fact I AM A TECHNICIAN - I can read the same exact diagnostic logs you can.
I have a serious advantage - I have the system IN FRONT OF ME.
One more time and I am typing slowly so you may understand - Issue 16 - PERFECT 90+ FPS with busy areas bringing me to 40ish at times. Issue 17 downloads - I go from 70+ FPS at absolute minimum settings to at times 3 FPS just panning or crossing a zone.
In missions it can go from 100+ FPS to 1 FPS at the drop of a hellion. I am not the only one. In every team I have been in the last month or so we have mapservers, lag, rubberbanding and random DC's.
I would appreciate you ignoring me in the future Fitzsimmons and I will do you the same courtesy.

I've seen an increase in Lag in the last week or so. After I17 it actually got better EU side (my old laptop worked better after the issue, my new machine loved it) but on Wednesday it was kicking me out of game.
Hades,
I don't ignore people, people ignore me. I like it that way, it's less that I have to do.
Where did I insult you? Did I insult your intelligence? Did I insult you because you're a technician? Well guess what, I am too, sorta. Technicians can be idiots. Hey look, I'm responding to one. Now that was an insult.
Lets talk credentials.
- I make 6 figures a year
- I work for the #2 software company and have done so for 15 years
- I've broken down stuff and rebuilt it
- I've written countless lines of code, automated systems, supported computers of all types and I'm even a DBA.
There are still issues I cannot figure out that people not in front of my computer have. And there are issues that took me weeks to figure out like when I had power supply issues which started to manifest as memory, network or soundcard issues.
But go ahead, continue cribbing.

Fitz
Sounds like a:
First World Problem
Yo, when mine goes out I've got to log in just to mention
my disappointment at the interruption of convenience.
I mean just: a lot left, but none up in between this
couple of minutes here and a couple of minutes later.
It's an outrage, at the price I paid. These dictators
of my leisure rule with an iron fist.
Has anybody ever been so put upon as this?

The last time I experienced rubberbanding was back when the /sync command was instituted and even then it was only a couple times a week. The last time I mapserved was about a month ago when Steel Canyon crashed on Virtue. Other than that it happens to me maybe once a month and is usually related to Comcast's crappy performance out here.
Now lets put these together. A problem that affects everybody is definitely a universal bug. A problem that doesn't affect everybody can absolutely not be a universal bug. Correlation does not imply causality. If every carton of Smith Brothers Dairy milk you open is spoiled then there is a possibility that the dairy produces only spoiled milk. If multiple people then report that they buy Smith Brothers milk all the time and it's perfectly good then yelling at them and calling them dairy apologists does not mean that you are right. It doesn't matter if you have equipment that can analyze the milk right down to it's molecular components.
To follow your lead I'll type this slow so you understand.
If you have problems with frame rate, lagging, and dropped connections at minimum settings but other people can use high settings with absolutely zero problems then an in game bug is not the problem. It may be server related, it may be isp related, it may be related to your uber computer. But it is not a bug.
Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

To be fair, it COULD be a bug that only manifests under certain combinations of hardware and/or software. Unfortunately, that's pretty common and makes it hard to track down the problem.

The "I'm so smart it can't be me" line is just crap. That's not being an apologist. That's just reality.

I Have been on the game for quite some time now and I'm really not one to complain but my frustration is really starting to mount with what apears to be lack of attention to fix common game play issues. I truley Balieve that plagues the game. The US DB connection issue as a exmaple. Filing bug reports, and petitions work to a degree. But I have to admit
the time it actually takes to get a actuale responce is much to be desired. and esentially its we will look in to it. My thought is before we come out with more content lets fix the content that exist' s to make it more enjoyable. Honestly am I Expecting to much for a Sevice I pay for? Maybee im way off course on this thought in that case thanks for letting me vent.
