Be careful with satellite internet as they tend to cap your download amount per month...read the fine print carefully. I live in the desert of New Mexico but luckily we have a cable company that provides service. I have some coworkers who play online games (you know that big one with dwarves etc) and they have had horrible experience with satellite internet and their MMOs (lag etc).
If at all possible I would go with cable internet if you can -
The only trial I do not run on a regular basis is UG...why?? Because I find it boring and too long. I have no problem finding/creating leagues to run any trial though - even UG if I am bored.
I have ventured to the less populated servers on some of my alts (yay for way too many free server transfers) and have found that usually the population is there, but sadly the willingness to listen/follow directions is not. Great example of this:
I have not failed a BAF on Freedom/Exalted in months... and the one I did fail back in November 2011 was an ill fated attempt at a MoBAF. I went to a smaller server (not naming names here) and of the 4 BAFs I did in 2 days...half failed. BAF!@ Seriously!?!?! I thought for sure the one would be a success as we had a full league of 24 with only 3 non shifted players....but alas we failed. We failed at the escapees section because no one listened and was running around doing their own things. I give very simple directions for BAFs: Team 1 North and Teams 2 & 3 South: CHOKES. Do not sit at a door. So after the first escape I look on the map...people are scattered to every point on the map... seriously?? So I yelled repeatedly: Everyone gather at the Choke points! When we hit 10 prisoners.. I jumped to South side and yelled Team 2/3 gather on me... they still didn't comprehend that and about 1 minute later we failed.
After that - I transferred my toon back to Freedom as it was clear that if people can't listen to simple directions on a BAF - there was no way I was attempting another trial.
So yeah it irks me a little bit when I see people say this trial or that trial is too gimmicky/difficult etc... because no it truly is not. If you can follow simple instructions all of these trials are not difficult. and back to the ORIGINAL point of this thread - I see/saw no issues with the competency of players after double xp weekend. This game is not hard to figure out even if you blazed through the first 50 levels. -
I have no issue with the current forum restrictions for premium players.
Just to point out - if you didn't pay before Freedom you had absolutely no access and now some of the main forum sections are available to premiums. -
Not gonna happen....
This has been asked for years now and has been shot down every time a dev has replied to the request.
I do not have the cut/paste, but fully agree with it's contents for the numerous reasons a super respec is a bad idea. -
huh?
Quote:Until recently, the Cosplay Policy (section 4.1 of the ToS) was at best a minor deterrent to play; people would ask, but you could just point out that it was completely unenforced, and they would ignore it. But today, the GMs have started enforcing this policy, and the fact is, it's a stupid policy, and I think it should be dropped entirely.
There are a number of flaws with the Cosplay Policy. First, cosplay can be expensive, and not everyone can afford good costumes. Secondly, this is particularly punitive for people who have a large number of alts, and you don't even want to think about alt-hopping to check for a particular enhancement; if you thought the 30 second logout timer was long, having to completely change before logging in is ridiculous.
Furthermore, the cosplay policy unfairly penalizes some character concepts more than others. "Guy in trenchcoat with two guns" is easy, "giant robotic exoskeleton" is... not easy. A lot of people have a lot of time and effort invested in characters that are very difficult to pull off, and at least one GM wasn't even letting people go to the tailor or a trainer to pick a new costume!
The fact is, I think a lot of us have been playing CoH in our normal clothes all along, and I think the game was plenty fun; I am not at all convinced that I needed extra help getting into the spirit of the game, and really, when it's implemented as pushy enforcement like this, it's mostly just intrusive. It doesn't create immersion, it just creates resentment.
Frankly, if the cosplay policy isn't dropped, I think a lot of people will stop playing CoH entirely. At the very least, I think GMs need to be a lot more forgiving of amateur-level costume efforts. -

A lot of the middle ones have interchangeable positions, but the top and bottom 5 are definites for me. Let's see yours, or you can just argue with mine. -
Uhmm.. ignore it??
I mean it only happens for 2 seconds when you summon your pets...
Alter your concept slightly?
Is this an RP thing?? I am not trying to seem obtuse... I just don't get why it matters. I read people's bios etc, but am not into RP. I read a very interesting bio from a Demon Summoning MM that they release the demons from within themselves...and never did it cross my mind to think something like "haha your demons are coming from the ground not your body..."
Like I said not trying to be mean or cynical...I just fail to see why it truly matters...or why your original concept doesn't apply - to me a concept is something that tells me about the character and not about how the animations work.
Quote:I just teamed with a friend of mine's Beast Master, and something strange struck me about the set. When his heroine, costumed the theme of a semi-feral person, summoned her minions, she would do so by growling or howling and ejecting a thick, coloured breath that was very similar to what the wolves and lionesses themselves ejected when they roared or howled. I'm not sure if it should have, but this surprised me, because it suggests to me that the art team's vision of a "beast master" is a character who is a beast himself and this... Really isn't the first thing that popped up in my head when I saw screenshots of the set. Even the elk horns lady on the splash screen advertising the set looked more to me like a barbarian than a feral human.
I didn't manage to get a very good look at the set, and considering I'm going to have to pay very real money to get this, I want to ask this ahead of time: Is Beast Mastery really designed around the concept of the beast master being a feral or animal character? Can this be played any other way, such as a wizard commanding animals with mind control or a scientist controlling animals "MIT SCIENCE!" or so?
I ask because the character I originally intended to use for Beast Mastery since the time I'd only just heard the name and didn't know anything about the set was just that - a scientist using scientific mind control to steal the minds of animals, using them as a tool to remove all humans from the planet. Granted, the scientist himself is a genetically engineered, super-smart animal in power armour, so I guess the growls and howls will still work coming out of a lion-head character's mouth, but I was hoping to use the set for something else besides just that. So how far can I stray from The Beastmaster without having to pretend what's happening on the screen isn't actually happening? -
Any defense shield would be nice. Port it over from energy aura and voila

Chat access is quite low on the reward token tree...if it truly bothers a free player then they have options available to them.
Quote:I'm sure that, like the rest of the Paragon Rewards and Tier structure, this was not a snap decision and where to place those rewards was discussed rather extensively.
I believe the Devs have made a pretty fair set of decisions with where things unlock and how much investment into the game each Tier requires.
They are giving enough away for little to no investment by a player. I see no need to lower the bar and give them more rewards for less.
If the players want access to those systems the currently priced entry point is rather modest. -
I subscribe for the incarnate system...plain and simple. I love doing almost all the itrials and DA arcs. Before the incarnate system came out I was seriously considering unsubbing completely....
-
I truly wish there were a gifting option - I completely understand their reluctance to do so (RMT etc), but am hopeful they will find a way around that one day. Would love to give little Christmas/Birthday presents to some of my friends in game
-
I have no problem with it - I did not buy any of the new powersets except Beam Rifle which I did not like. I am just waiting for staff fighting so I can finally create the scrapper I have wanted to make since I started playing 7 years ago
-
Did several BAF/LAM/Keyes since this past weekend - no fails. I didn't get a toon to 50 (36 though so I guess not too bad). After this weekend spent the past few days working on my earth/fire/ice dom doing trials - up to +2 now woot
-
Or they could just make new animations involving staff for all blast primary/secondaries...
-
Saving my points for staff melee. While the idea of a Beast MM is appealing - just not appealing enough for 800pp when everyone keeps saying it is underpowered
-
I have wanted this for a VERY long time. There is no reason my hero defender should have to become a villain to have a defense armor. Defenders/Corruptors are the only type that require you to become a villain if you want a defense shield. Doms/Controllers/MM/Blasters all have access to ice for their defense shield.

Any solution to the way catalysts currently function as per character only is a good solution to me.
-
Source? According to ustream etc it is an issue/suggestion they are well aware of and continue looking into it. Nowhere have they ever stated it would be at a cost...so no it is not pretty clear that it will never happen nor is it pretty clear that it will cost anything on the market.
Quote:This is the sort of thing that really should be part of the package, but it's pretty clear that it'll never be done that way, and under the current marketing system, if we see it at all, it'll be for a sizable extra fee.
And because I'm a sucker, I'd probably pay it, yeah. -
Q: 3 extra enhancement slots broke stuff badly. Has it been shelved? yes. Too much work for them to get that to work.
Boo
This saddens me.
Here is hoping they can do the whole catalyst/voucher thing.... my one toon has an excess of catalysts and the RNG hates the other toon which could use them. -
Sounds like an EXPLOIT and not a legitimate method of farming. If you are getting rewards without even attacking at a "farmable" pace this is definitely not WAI and is an exploit.
-
Send an in game petition. Sometimes the reward tokens do not award (no clue why). I have to do this every month to get my reward token. The current system is broken for some people, but mine is usually awarded with a petition and 1-2 emails in replies - a total of 2-3 hours max. Good Luck.

LOL is the OP serious??
This thread had me literally ROFLing -

I have Haunt on my dark/dark dom, but it is also lightly slotted compared to my other powers. It is not something I use every fight, but I find it is useful against bosses/ebs/avs
