I have Superspeed, for the Stealth value as much as anything else. Also, it's "by product" is Hasten, which is still useful even when you've started stacking Siphon Speed - good for those "oh poocrumbs" moments.
It's perfectly possible to get by without one, but it makes life easier. -
[ QUOTE ]
If the actual effect is usefull is something else, this is about the fact how to 'start' it. Defender gets it also 'automatic', while blaster realy have to risk his debt to even get it close to 10% extra damage.
I personaly realy like the defender one, lotsa healing toggles and attacking without endprobs. And if it goes wrong, you never have to fear running out of end. (and defenders have a little bit more secondairy then just FF/kin's).
[/ QUOTE ]Yes, but an inherent should benefit all, not just some.
I admit that Defiance takes a while to kick in, but once it does, it [i]really[i/] does. I've been toying with a Blaster lately, and I like it. Blasters are "glass cannons", they can give it, but they can't take it. I think it's a fair sacrifice, and don't really have any problems with its "timing". -
I still think Defiance is better than the Defender inherent, which is of zero use to some Defender builds (forcefields - bubbles are up already, and kinetics "what's endurance?"). It feels like it was built around Empaths, which is just bad.
Just get over yourselves and do what the Defenders do: ignore it. You can get by without your inherent just fine. -
I'd whack a few more damage enhancements in Terrify; it does very respectable damage and cycles reasonably fast. Also, it wouldn't hurn to put a few more recharge things in Mass Hypsonis; it's not a hold, but it's still pretty useful.
-
After much laziness, I'm going to bring 19, my kinetics defender out.
Nothing better to do : D -

Thats not true. Siphon power is a personbased aoe buff
[/ QUOTE ]Which is true, but I tend to be in melee range anyway (that's where the heals are, after all), so the ranged guys and gals miss out anyway. -
One constant problem with the Kinetics set, is that ranged players get left behind, buff-wise. You have to force them into melee range, and sometimes to go against their instincts (after they nuke, the safest place to stand really is in the middle of the mob).
-
[ QUOTE ]
Mass hypnosis on the other hand could be removed from the set so people wouldnt be tempted to take it at first opportunity, being the first AoE mez available.. And it truly sucks in practically every team. Soloing it is different but not worth the power slot imo.
[/ QUOTE ]I would disagree, I find it useful in and out of teams. It's less useful than the big hold (stupid memory), but can still take enemies out of the fight for a while. -
White dwarfs have never posed a problem for me, other than solo.
There's no way you'll be able to hold one, so either stack slows or just go for full on violence. -
[ QUOTE ]
I suppose it comes down to a bit of specialisation. You can do 2 things very well, but if you try to do 3 then you'll be second rate? Maybe? Thoughts, comments?
[/ QUOTE ]I think it's the difference between doing things brilliantly and doing things well enough.
Personally, I'm currently running a more-or-less 2 form PB, Nova and Dwarf. I only really run my human mode when I'm soloing because of the low mob count.
Novo form can out-blast a Blaster, but only at range. We simply don't survive when it comes to close encounters. Blasters can Blapp, we can't. (Apart from /Devices Blasters, but with Caltrops and Trip mines, the enemies shouldn't be getting in melee range too often). Likewise, my Dwarf can tank, but as soon as mobs get too big, I start losing aggro control. The forms work well, as long as you don't push it to extremes.
My human form is now getting some love, and should be reliable as a form by level 39 (I'm planning a respec).
That was a bit of a rambling, but my point is: Kheldians are effective, but they have their limitations. Don't expect miracles, just functionality. -
QF is lovely! Once you have a macro set up (to drop out of whatever form you are in and start up QF), it works as an escape power very well. Just make sure you don't have any hold or sleep powers stacked on you if you're coming from Dwarf... they'll hit you in the .2 second gap between Dwarf and QF, leaving you very squishy and very faceplanted.
The end drain isn't that, given the nature of the power. When you hit QF, it's normally because you want to get out of a situation incredibly fast. Once you are out of the situation (down the lifts/halfway across the map/500 feet above ground level) you can switch on Combat Flight and begin to regain endurance and heal or whatever.
It also works as a travel power if you're impatient and can't be bothered to use Dwarf Step/Teleport - Switch on QF and fly at capped speed, then toggle back to Nova to refill endurance.
Edited for spelling - wrote "sloop" instead of "sleep". -

Until I7, where the unique combination of lack of forethought and fudge will make Defence effectively identical to Resistance, Defence is inferior to Resistance as soon as you start facing mobs +2 or more to you.
[/ QUOTE ]I didn't really understand this either... it's rather ambiguously worded.
Lack of fudge? -
Having been in both the NBR and LLOD (I defected when everyone buggered off to CoV, which I don't really like), I can tell you that as long as you're not a moron* and as long an you're hard to offend or irritate** you're welcome in the LLOD.
You added me to your global friends thing yesterday, so you know how to get hold of me...
*Unless you're happy for us to kick you. We're good at kicking morons. Our forum has a list of morons to be avoided, I believe.
**We had a half-hour conversation about poo and colonic irrigation over Coalition and SG chat yesterday. Previous highlights include "the corn on the cob incident". -
[ QUOTE ]
Excepting your teammates not to die over the lifetime of your levelling is naíve - if you need a power to fill the slot you might as well make it worthwhile when you use it.

*twitches*
Naïve! -
I took Acrobatics, and then immediately got chain stunned by every enemy I met. It's not as amazing as people say it is.
-
I don't find my nova especially squishy... you sort of learn how long it takes for mob to respond after you've launched a huge cone attack. Cone attack and then immediately Dwarf is pretty indestructable. If I'm solo I can normally afford to chuck out my second AoE attack as well as the mob size is smaller.
I got to 50 with a very squishy squishy (Kinetics Defender), so I'm quite used to walking the line between "Godly" and "Dead". -
[ QUOTE ]
Well depending on how my end usage goes once I have DOs (Which might be tough as I'm on Union with no high level toons to feed my enhancement habit)
[/ QUOTE ]Send me a tell: @Gulli and I'll sprinkle you with influence with my 50 (who now looks like a gimp). -
I'm going to do something similar with my PB, although keeping tri-form. With ED, the slot-deficiency is eased a bit I think. I still won't have enough slots to make a viable Human form until level 40 (keeping my others optimally slotted).
-
How often do people use their different forms?
I use Dwarf and Nova to "fill in the gaps" of a team, a lot of the time, and I'm rediscovering my Human ability to solo (fast attack chain - at last).
I almost never use my Human in teams though, which is where it gets the most benefit (the second most useless inherent in the game, in my opinion)... does anyone else find this? -
Personally, I'm a hardcore teleporter. My PB has made me rethink this somewhat. Fly is the slowest, but it's still fairly fast. If I'm in a real hurry I can dwarf-teleport until my endurance runs out, then switch to nova (travel power that recharges endurance, anyone?).
At level one, Fly is probably easier to handle than teleport (both big endurance whores), and you can use it indoors.
Fly is still the only travel power that lets you have a wee en-route.
-
You don't need Stamina, especially when you get Transference.
After about level 29 (remember to slot it), you can more of less ignore your endurance bar, as Transference can fill it up instantly.
By all means take it if you want, but it is a bit gratuitous. If you want to take it for a few levels and respec it out (like I did), then do.
Grant Invis and Stealth are good powers to pick up instead, and everybody loves Recall Friend. -
That was the main problem I had when playing in the Test server... I take on new powers that need slotting to be effective.
-
I never, ever, ever, ever use my Human shields, so shall I respec them out for more attacks? Part of the reason I'm doing this is in preperation for Light Form, as I don't really have a solid attack chain in Human form yet.
Any advice?
(Playing on Test server with builds) -
As a kineticist, you can built up a fairly Blasterish amount of damage, but only if you are teamed really.
Fulcrum-shifting a big mob is easy, surviving the aftermath isn't (cue big pink psychic nuke). -
To be honest, I didn't realise it held enemies until I read it on the forums... it's a very secondary effect for me.
Perverse damage ftw!
