It depends on the team and how the power is used. If the patch is keeping the team safer, you figure out a way not to knock mobs out of it (even then, you could knock some out and defeat them safely enough while they're still getting up). Or it'd be silly not to use the AOEs. I was teamed with an Elec Controller on my EM/EM Blaster, and I kept using all my AOEs: it would have been silly not to. Whatever stayed in his patch stayed asleep, etc., while I took out the stuff that was KB'd.
And I've had people immobilize things, preventing knockback, and this made things more dangerous: more stuff was firing back than usual, and I really noticed it.
The diverse powers in this game can mesh perfectly well when you play with them right. The only real issues occur when players get stubborn or refuse to adapt to their team. -
Teamed with a Kinetics Controller (so I was at the damage cap at the time, I'm sure), I was quite happy when my Shield/SS did 500 damage or so with KB Blow at about level 40. 'tis quite nice!

Interesting. Last time I heard people talking about this proc, they thought it sucked over all, as it was only for 5 seconds. Knowing it goes by target does make it more viable in somewhat frequently used powers. My Blasters probably don't need any more recharge, but this could be quite nice on my Khelds if I could fit it in on some of their AOEs.

Quote:Because the purpose of trick or treating is to "PL meh!" Got my Corruptor a level last night because of it.Damn, Hamster is right.
Pro-tip: Don't advertise a lvl 50 ToT team on any global channel... you'll end up with most of the team under lvl 25. Of course, when you finally have to leave everyone will wipe, but still...He was at least at SO levels and had a couple good debuff powers, though, and most of the rest of the team were in the high 40s.
Quote:You can get suspended and/or banninated actually. It's happened. In the ToS, it's included in the "don't be a jackass" part.
Looking back at people that used to do it, part of me still wants to say it wasn't being mean. If they were a lowbie there, they were just looking to get PL'd. And if they went AFK in an area without police drones, whose fault is that? But yeah... it's griefing. -
Hope it goes well. I'll be teaching tonight. *waves little flag* Yayyyyy.

Yeah, I'd like to get some more slots in there, myself. *sighs* That's technically an argument for Acrobatics with the new setup, but I still find myself wanting more powers than I can get as well.
I could use that freed up slot in Health, I know, but I rather feel like being able to use my hold is going to help a lot more. When I want that hold up, it's going to do me a lot more good than a bit more regeneration. -
Quote:Nope, mostly just a set mule. I'd throw it a slot if I could, but I've been making do with one slot in my hold from the Fire Ancillary for a long time now, and I hate it (tossing my extra slot to my hold, in other words). It's useful to have up often in Malta or Arachnos missions, when you're taking on Hamidon in the LGTF, etc. One slot doesn't seem huge, but it'll up my accuracy, recharge, and duration a fair amount.Don't know whether you're using Maneuvers purely as a set mule or not, but if you're planning to run it, it uses a heck of a lot more end than Acro does. (.39 EPS vs .26)
Just sayin'.
Quote:True but with i19 I have 3 free power choices, which for me will be SJ, Acrobatics and Conserve Power. With the new Consume up ever 60 seconds and Conserve Power, End really isn't an issue to me ( Miracle and Numina too ).
What taking Acrobatics does do is free up 2 slots, one in SS (Zephyr) and one in Temperature Protecion (Steadfast)and allows me to replace the Karma in CJ with a LoTG 7.5. This allowed me to 6 slot taunt with Perfect Zingers for another 3.125 Def.
Edit:
End usage really isn't that bad even with 6 toggles and Oblits. I took screenshots of Mids and linked them below because I am using a user "modified" version that allows i19 inherant. As you can see 1.28/s out of 3.28/s end for normal and .72/s from 3.69/s for Consume / Conserve

As it is, I still wish I could grab more from my Ancillary on my tanking build. I have a need to teleport teammates often enough that getting that power would be nice (and free a slot in my build), wouldn't mind more recharge from fitting and LotG +recharge in somewhere is the easy way to do that.
Just find what works for you and go with it, just wanted to note the options out there. For your build... you might get more slots if you did things different with Health and didn't have to 5 slot it. Probably would help if I had more slots in mine (just have a Numina's in the default slot), but I don't want to take the slot from anywhere else.
Anyway, I'm rambling. Nice thing about builds in CoX is that we have so many options. -
Quote:I know... someone that did this way back in the day in CoH... but really didn't know it was griefing. Heard it was a way to show how tough you were and drag them to the Portal Corp. court, or something, so that's why they did it.. They were quite silly to think that was not being mean... honestly.Next time someone does this to you SH, let them have the space and then grab a stone tank and pull a few GMs from monster isle on top of them for payback.
-
*snerk*
You're just like me, MG, you can't stay away. -
Wow, they didn't make you have renter's insurance? Most landlords do around where I live (though I'd have it anyway... wouldn't want to have to buy back all the stuff we have in here, even if we don't have much due to our modest budgets).
Good luck with everything else. -
I would guess you aren't part of the jerk store if you had a civil conversation with Ham, heh. But who knows, he's a goofy guy.
I'd say for that one just have one team on each set of doors. You don't need both of them the way it works now. Easy peasy. Heck, I don't even know why any of this can be an issue for people: but I've always one of those people that doesn't have issues with sharing.
Who's E-raging, Inviegle? The guy who couldn't find teams, or Ham? Either one isn't worthy of that, but whatever, it's in keeping with your history. Sheesh, people complaining about finding a team or jerk behavior in an MMO are both completely unsuprising. It happens.
Binds, the Unseelie Court is always hard to find, as people pick those mobs off from around Jack and don't bother to defeat Jack. Makes it hard for everyone, even though the Halloween event has been going for years. Finding teams has generally been a little trickier redside, but it's not usually hard to find ToT or Banner teams in peak hours: are you using our chat channels to find teams? If not, check them out in the "Welcome to Victory" thread stickied in our forums, and join them in game. -

Did you try mitigation via stuns? Use Beanbag and Taser, and that boss can be stunned while you riddle him with bullets. Might take a little longer on a Rikti boss (my AR Blaster is Energy Melee, so I switched to melee once I had a Rikti boss stunned and pummeled him to defeat), but it's a solid strategy that I use on most of my blasters. My EM/EM is going to just knock them on their butts as much as he can.
Only boss you can't count on being able to do hold/stun chain with are Carnie Master Illusionists, but that mob is lethal weak, so they can be kind of fun to take on for AR blasters, even with bosses off in your difficulty settings. -
I can understand wanting more slots, but I dunno... having another toggle draining on you is always bad, in my mind. Might be okay if you're not grabbing Tough and Weave as well, but those can help quite a bit if you want to Tank with your Fire/Fire, so I don't know that you would want to drop them.
Once I had an option to not have Acrobatics, I took it. It'll be easier to fit it in with inherent Fitness, sure, but I'm still not sure it's worth it. On my personal tanking build for Fire/Fire, I'm adding in Teleport Friend (slot in Winter's Gift -slow and free up a slot, plus utility on teams), Build Up, and Maneuvers for a LOTG +recharge. I'd rather not waste endurance on Acrobatics.
But maybe I'm still annoyed about all that time when I had to fit it in to my build. Heh. -
Weird. Usually the big events can be okay when you have someone willing to lead in broadcast, and people will follow it. But I have had one Rikti Raid where one team was off doing whatever the heck they felt like the whole time, so whatever... some people are idiots. Perhaps we are getting more idiots since there are more people playing again: the better players are usually those who have been around for awhile (not saying new players stink, just that along with good new players come new ******* that we don't know to avoid just yet).
Me, unless I'm on a team, I usually just scoot to a door away from other people Trick or Treating so I don't have to deal with any door click issues. Works for me. -
Quote:The Hobbit has separate film rights from LOTR, and were owned by someone else. There was some huge major saga about it all that I just don't care about anymore, but that is part of why it has taken so long.Weren't the rights to The Hobbit still goofy at the time the LoTR trilogy was being made? I could be wrong, but I don't think they got it cleared up until after the last movie hit theatres.
And if this isn't filmed in NZ... ouch. Shame for the movie and for the union. -
...
Didn't see this back then. GG, I know they're "adding" more things to make a second movie, and don't really care. Stringing any extra stuff together from appendices or Peter Jackson's rear to make a second movie or expand the focus of The Hobbit doesn't look to improve the story in any way for me, and I love The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. I love the world those books are in, but don't want just anything strung together. Heck, I think they could make some stories from The Silmarillion work, but I know it would be hard.
Blech, and I can't see anything good coming from 3d for these, either. -
Quote:I didn't really mind how Kirk died, though I'm sure everyone wanted him to go down in a bigger blaze of glory somehow (though saving a planet with millions of people on it is a big fact that some forget). However, mortality is the big theme of that movie, and Kirk dying in a way that passes on the torch, but also in the way that he could have died any number of times in past missions... kind of speaks to that theme a lot more. You can die just like that, or somehow manage to pull on through for another day or so.Star Trek Generations: decent start for the new crew into the movies. Lousy way to kill Kirk.
Between the cinematography, gorgeous golden light for much of the film, and interesting themes, it's actually a movie I like quite a bit out of the entire series of movies. Wrath of Khan beats it out for action + themes, of course. First Contact is pretty good as well, or course, but Generations sticks with me somehow.
Kind of wish TNG had a better sendoff, and DS9 certainly deserved a movie, but I can kind of understand how those movies petered out.
The JJ Abrams movie looked good, had nice action, etc., but it was wanting in some areas. The villain was nonexistant other than to randomly kill a few people and blow things up, and some important things were rushed. Hopefully they can trim out the weaker bits and keep the good stuff with the next one. -
Quote:I wasn't really saying anything different from what you did. With all the info in this thread, it's clear that it will fire more often in a toggle, but not necessarily when you want it to. As you said in your second paragraph, it can be better as damage frontload in a click, which I see as usually more helpful for a Blaster. That's a bit of a logical fallacy. When considering the proc, you have to remember that the proc check is ignorant of any previous checks made (keeping in mind that only one check is made every 10 seconds). Just because the proc went off 10 seconds ago when you weren't fighting doesn't mean that it won't go off right now when you are fighting. This means that it doesn't matter how many of the procs are "wasted" by activating when you're not in combat because they have no effect on how the proc will operate while you are in combat.
The only time you're going to see better returns by slotting the Gauss proc into BU is if you are only using the proc as a damage frontloading mechanism. If you care about maximizing your performance over time, a toggle or short recharge power such as BF or FU are going to be best (personally, I go with the toggle because the difference in performance between the two isn't large enough to justify losing out on the 6 piece Gaussian's set bonus).
It's entirely up to the player with this one... I used to like it in toggles, but after learning about the length of the boost and knowing how random it is, I've been leaning more toward a click, just so you know it's firing when you want it. I can see the logic going both ways, really.
Quote:No, it's "proc" short for "procedure", dating back to early muds. The attempt to come up with a backronym for it has not been rewarding. -
Quote:Eh, he's already potentially facing resistant mobs. You have Crey Tanks, Rikti, DE rocks, etc., at that level. Not saying it isn't a factor, but it isn't something that is too difficult for AR to get over. M80 followed by Full Auto or Flamethrower is still a nice AOE combo.I agree with you, but when you get a bit further along, you will see that your attacks start getting resisted more and more often. Good thing you offer a variety: fire, lethal, KB. But it gets tougher later on.
I have a 50 AR/Dev and he is great pun to play, and is especially good on teams. -
Quote:I have never agreed with or understood this line of reasoning... see Voodoo Company's apt response below, as I agree with it entirely. Shocking, I know! It's an optional $10 to get a nice add-on to the game. It is not a necessity - so if you don't want it and/or don't want to pay the $10 - then don't.
You still get free content added to the game, which does include, at times, new costumes, powers, etc.
Quote:I think the bigger picture is, people WANT to pay money for things like this, but they don't feel like they would be getting their money's worth for what it is.
Yes, you can NOT buy it if you choose. But it is kind of annoying to WANT to spend money, but not able to convince yourself of the value at hand.
I don't think anyone is complaining that they are being forced to spend money......because they aren't.
The boosters I do have (GVE, Magic, Ninja, Cyborg, and the GR stuff) were mostly purchased with a version of the game, making them cheaper than the $10 they technically cost. But the origins one isn't on par with those at all.
And Ham... that picture says volumes about your playstyle. All is explained now. -
Hax! Nerf Doms and Controllers! Nerf Ice!
Congrats... not an easy feat to accomplish on safer teams. -
Sorry to hear that, Viv. Hang in there and I hope it gets fixed up fast.
