AR Blaster
Is it just me, or is the AR powerset really really useful? I have leveled a few Blasters. Solo'd a Fire/Psi in AE to 50 before the great nerf. Have a 40 Ice/Ice that is just too weird to run. Now have a 39 AR/Dev and man, is he ever easy to offer team support with. All I have to do is get a clear spot with an angle on a crowd, fire off 2-3 attacks, find another sweet spot, repeat. To assist in this I have caltrops and stealth. Did the Devs forget to screw this pairing up? When does the nerf hit? i19?

I have a 50 AR/Dev and he is great pun to play, and is especially good on teams.
Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I agree with you, but when you get a bit further along, you will see that your attacks start getting resisted more and more often. Good thing you offer a variety: fire, lethal, KB. But it gets tougher later on.

I play few Blasters (I mostly Brute). I actually love Energy/Energy. Iknow, I know, the knockback. It is a mixed blessing definitely. To have a Blaster that can lay into mobs with real fury and no KB, it is sweet. My Fire/Psi I am not comfortable with, unless I am blapping, due to various personal issues prob. The Assault Rifle forces me to get out and line up my cones, which really helps me think about dismantling mobs.

AR paired with devices used to be useful AND did a lot of damage. Good times, good times.
There is a huge difficulty jump for Bosses and EBs after level 40, I found - my AR/Dev can't handle them, even stacking a minefield around a nearby corner (when possible), then setting a Time Bomb, backing up, using Surveillance, Call to Justice, using Sniper Rifle to open up on the EB just as the Time Bomb goes off, then heading back behind the minefield... :/
My advice: don't solo after 40 and hope you don't regularly run into teams that whine about Slug, Buckshot, and M30 Grenade.
Did you try mitigation via stuns? Use Beanbag and Taser, and that boss can be stunned while you riddle him with bullets. Might take a little longer on a Rikti boss (my AR Blaster is Energy Melee, so I switched to melee once I had a Rikti boss stunned and pummeled him to defeat), but it's a solid strategy that I use on most of my blasters. My EM/EM is going to just knock them on their butts as much as he can.
Only boss you can't count on being able to do hold/stun chain with are Carnie Master Illusionists, but that mob is lethal weak, so they can be kind of fun to take on for AR blasters, even with bosses off in your difficulty settings.

I love the cones in the build.. seems like a ranged monster, i will be usind Energy Manipulation for Boost range.

I like AR a lot but prefer it with /ice as opposed to /dev. My AR/Ice blaster was one of the funest I've taken to 50. Fast charging nuke, ice patch, flamethrower and ignite for S/L resistant mobs..... lots of fun & didn't think the + 40 game was bad at all.

Huh? My Trap/AR DEF has zero issues with Bosses and he does less damage than a blaster. I just ctrl-click for auto Web Grenade and stack Ignites, Bosses and EB's melt, I dont see any issues. I soloed all of Maria Jenkins arc with him just fine.

Traps/AR handles bosses a LOT more easily than AR/Dev (I have both). The passive defense from Force Field Generator makes a huge difference in surviving long enough to get the Web Grenade/Ignite combo going. Add in the fact that Ignite was never re-scaled for Defenders so it actually does Blaster level damage plus the Defender has Acid Mortar and the damage a Traps/AR Defender can deal against a single target is pretty comparable to the damage dealt by the AR/Dev, in fact I would say my Traps/AR kills bosses faster than my AR/Dev.
The trick with bosses as an AR/Dev is Ignite. You need to immobilize them with web grenade (and if possible either stun or hold them with other powers) and then use ignite on them until they are dead. It's still tough compared to other blasters simply because of the huge setup time involved so you're fighting them for longer.

Regular bosses aren't much of a problem, though - just the EBs. :/
Or use beanbag & taser and turn bosses into quivering bowls of jelly.

Tried that. Didn't work for me so I respec'd out of Ignite a looooong time ago.

So AR can get it done... even with annoying ones like Silver Mantis or Marauder. Darn tier 9 godmode powers. Darn defense debuffs.

Eh. I'm mostly a toe-bomber.
Mostly Time Bomb [Cloaked + IO] -> jump back -> Call to Justice -> Surveillance on the hardest target -> LRM Rocket -> Full Auto alternating with Surveillance -> Trip mine -> jump back -> Full Auto -> M30 Grenade -> Buckshot.
On rare occasions I'll set up a minefield around a corner and Sniper Rifle to lure 'em in.
Or, if it's just regular trash, Sniper Rifle -> Full Auto -> M30/Buckshot for cleanup.
AR is fast becoming one of my favorite AoE sets...I don't know how I've missed this gem for so long. The love affair started with a AR/Ice Blaster ( Ice Patch + Ignite = ) ....I enjoyed that toon so much I'm working on a TA/AR Defender now for AoE Debuffs/Dmg.
I just made a AR/Rad Corr on Champ that has early promise as well...we'll see!
I have heard good things about AR/Rad.
Ar/Dark is fun and so is Ar/Kin (a bit more tough to solo compared to dark lol)
Ignite was amazing and still is...somewhat even now it still melts of faces...even though pre-nerf ignite would...would...*breaks down and starts crying* Oh man was it beautiful!
