Yet Another New Booster

New "origin" booster pack (video link at the bottom of the article). Basically a bunch of capes and auras. Better than the emote only pack, but I'm not super keen on it, especially since it's going to be $10 again.

Feels rather piecemeal to me, not to mention being overpriced (the previous boosters were at least full costume sets along with other things). They're all available from level 1, but meh. What do you all think?

Dammit... this looks cooler than the lame emotes pack. I assume it will hit before I19, so I actually won't be buying it opening day. Ha! Take that, NCSoft!

All the boosters have been over priced, frankly.

But not as over priced as this:

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

Tough one. The tech auras would go great with a few of my toons. But that is about it. Maybe someday, but no rush to do so.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

I like costumes too, and have a large variety of them. You can do a lot more with the Tech, Magic, or Ninja booster packs then you can with a few capes and auras, though. No way is this booster even close to those.

And if this is what that promo material a few weeks ago meant by "having your origin tied in more with your character's growth," color me unimpressed.

Mwahaha! I am the doom police with this one! Fear me and tremble!

Yeah, I will probably get this. They all look pretty cool, except mutant.

I like them. Maybe not $10 worth of liking, but I do like them.

If you're implying that the auras will be restricted to characters with the appropriate origin, I'm reasonably certain that won't be the case. If it is, the devs are making a tremendous mistake.

They will not be, as stated in the video.

Yeah, I like them too, except for the mutant cape. As you noted, though, $10 seems steep. $5-$6 would have made me think "eh, not too bad for what it is." At that price range, most of the other boosters are much, much better. You might not get them for their theme (like magic, valkyrie, or ninja), but they're offering a lot more for that $10 than what this pack gets you.

No, there was some article or diary or something a few weeks ago where they mentioned your origin was going to have more of an impact on your gameplay. I think it's going to be tied in with dialogue in some new arcs (more than just Percy Winkley's) from what they said, but the language of this announcement was similar enough to make me fear they were equating the two things, which I certainly would not.

I do know the costume pieces are for every character at level 1, which Black Pebble or Ocho confirmed. So that's good. Just don't think the price point is right for what this is offering. I'd go with Ham and say any of the boosters are iffy at $10, but since that's our baseline and what this booster is up against, I would certainly say it's not worth it.

Shame, too. Some of those auras look nifty, as do the capes. Just not that much money good. But you know me, I'm one of those that has to justify subbing to the game: some people take that as a matter of course.

I've only bought 2 packs; magic and natural. Magic was mostly for the costumes, with the animations being cute and the power a little flavor. Natural was mainly for the power, with the costumes being a little flavor and the animations being meh. I have found myself using both powers quite a bit, way more than the animations and only using the costume pieces a little bit.

The other costume packs had a combination of meh for the pieces, animations, AND the power, so they really didn't appeal to me.

This....does not offer a power at all. I'm not into capes, what with maybe 2 characters actually using one now (and one of those is using the Magic cap which fits perfectly). Some of the auras are pretty nifty, and I have a few costumes that could use some of them right off the bat. But I wouldn't feel like I'd be getting my money's worth since costumes and auras are "one and done"; I don't get the feeling of "using" them like I would with a power.

So that's my take. You can all feel relieved now, knowing what ole voodoo thinks. But just in case someone gets the wrong idea, I am NOT opposed to getting these things for free or someone gifting them to me. That'd be insane. And one thing I ain't, it's crazyyyyyyyyyy23 24523523 2.asdf;a2354

Another vanity power pack? How hard would it be to throw in a "Teleport to Icon/Facemaker" power with a two-hour timer?

Or since this is an origin-themed pack, how about a teleport-to-an-origin-store power?

I'd pay money if they'd implement the "Teleport to Friend" function that Wizard101 has...

I generally do not modify a characters costume once I make the character, unless it's a planned change due to the moronic nature of unlockable costume pieces (witches hat, capes, Vanguard weapons, etc).

From each package, there's only one or two pieces that I'd ever use. It's just not worth that much money for a few pieces. A few of the Valk set, one of the ninja masks (maybe), or of the helmet options from the warrior set, and the animated wolf tail. That's about it.

I really don't understand their pricing scheme. Obviously, they feel like they're making money off it, or else they'd change the pricing scheme. Five to eight dollars? I'd likely buy half of them. Ten dollars? Haven't bought a single one, except the magic pack via the architect edition (which made it effectively four dollah).

You know, supposedly we're all a grumpy bunch of buggers here on Victory, but at least no one is taking potshots about how "$10 isn't that much money and we should stop whining." Not saying everybody posting along those lines on the official thread for this booster are mean about it, but... $10 is still $10. If you make enough that you can throw it around like Frank Sinatra and not care what you are paying for, more power to you.

But most of us do have to think about our expenditures, would like a decent amount for our money, and do measure things when a company changes pricing or seems to be pricing too high for what it's offering. Don't knock us when we do so.

My line of reasoning would have less to it if there weren't other boosters to match up against already.

Ham, you mentioned in game that they should have a sale with these... I could see that ticking people off that paid full price (or being more reasonable if people couldn't get these "cheaper" with other versions of the game), but it might not be a bad idea, especially for the boosters with less in them, or the older ones.

To anyone get ticked off:
I have bad news to you all that paid 50 bucks for CoH... You can buy it for a LOT cheaper now. OMGWTFBBQ, DOOOM< NO. Newsflash. Some things are over priced to start with and there's a good incentive of putting older things on sale; to get money from the people who have not and never will buy it at its current price.

I will, hands down, NEVER buy any of the packs out there at their current price. But if there was a 2-for-1 sale (say, on any but the latest releases, or hell any of them)? I'd buy a few. Hell, might even buy them all.

It's an optional $10 to get a nice add-on to the game. It is not a necessity - so if you don't want it and/or don't want to pay the $10 - then don't.

You still get free content added to the game, which does include, at times, new costumes, powers, etc.

I think the bigger picture is, people WANT to pay money for things like this, but they don't feel like they would be getting their money's worth for what it is.

Yes, you can NOT buy it if you choose. But it is kind of annoying to WANT to spend money, but not able to convince yourself of the value at hand.

I don't think anyone is complaining that they are being forced to spend money......because they aren't.

Yep. As I said, I'm interested, but it's just not freaking worth it for just one or two costume pieces that I'll use on *one* character.

EDIT:
And of course, there's a number of people who feel resentment at the perception of being nickeled and dimed for stuff like costume pieces when they're still paying 15 bucks a month for an older game.

Hamster, I am shocked you didn't have "the bigger picture" in your post. Great set up!!

Anyhow, I am more in the camp against nickel and diming. This goes on enough in all areas of life. Some of the items in this new pack are great, others "won't see the light of day" by me.

The cost is nothing also, maybe a day's worth of coffee or a glass of wine at dinner. I am just not liking the direction of paying for all these little add ons. Yeah, it took some time for some one to program and such, but there is no further cost of material. It is all electronic and can be "copied" many times over for players.

Jesus Christ. $10 dollars for a glass of wine? I'm REALLY hoping your quoting rip off restaurant prices. Otherwise, I'm coming over for dinner at your place tomorrow.
