[/ QUOTE ] Don't most pedestrian crossing signals use orange and white? lol j.k
(I realize there are several different models)

[/ QUOTE ] It's from the hitchiker's guide to the galaxy, but yes they're usually a white walking person and a red hand.
  2. No I think everyone got it wrong. This story obviously is set before i14 (IIRC) and Statesman had his defensive toggles shut off before that demon attacked him. That's what the line about "left himself open" means.

*goes on to convince himself that red is green and green is red and gets killed at the next pedestrian crossing*
  3. Exactly. No need to keep bringing in the examples of "I have plenty of sub 20s with millions". I think that sets people's expectations off, and then they think "I don't have millions, I can't afford XYZ".
  4. [ QUOTE ]
HaruoSan: Actually my point here is about selling, not buying. But to address your comment, I have two low-20's characters with about 300 Million Inf each. Neither one has set foot in an AE mission. Even my non-Marketer characters have a few million they're carrying about just by playing the game and paying attention to how I sell things.

[/ QUOTE ]On the other hand, I believe the winner of the last level 10 challenge only had about 300k inf. The rules of the level 10 challenge are much more in line with what the average player will expect to see while playing than going by what an "intelligent" person can earn.

With current sell rates on items balanced by patrol exp, I suspect that a new challenge would show that the average player can expect about 400k by level 10. Common salvage spiking to 100k means they can "only" craft 2 or 3 Common IOs by level 10.

That said, "400k-ish by level 10" (because I am not smart in how I play nor sell), was enough for my Dom that by level 16 I was able to buy and craft a full set of volley fire, two from the paralytic set, my level 15 freebie from the tutorial, and I picked up a few "sell at below crafting price" common IOs for my holds and immobilizes. I didn't even act smart, I paid "buy it nao" prices, but I was willing to walk away and come back the next day (but for some reason I wasn't willing to leave a bid up overnight, through sheer stupidity). I did get lucky and find a couple pieces of salvage I needed by way of drops. And I would check prices +/- 5 levels of myself. That was the extent of my trying to be smart with shopping.

I'm not as gung-ho as you are about it La Baldera, but I'm also not seeing the whole "new players are screwed" thing. I'm a marketing moron who mostly shovels money to smarter sellers rather than taking it in for myself. But I can make plenty of IOs on my characters before level 20. More than anyone really has a good reason to considering how low the bonus numbers are compared to the crafting costs.

    Edited for typo and name.

With 4 slots I'd go with 4 pieces of performance shifter, endmod, endmod/accuracy, endmod/recharge, and the chance for endurance proc. It's slightly less recovery enhancement than the ED cap, but the 2.5% recovery bonus from 4 pieces gives you a little bit of an edge (0.01 end/sec according to mid's, but every little bit helps).

    [/ QUOTE ]

What level IOs are these numbers for? Level 50?

[/ QUOTE ]StarGeek, look up at Laevateinn's post. 3x level 50 IOs = 49.8. 4 pieces of the Performance Shifter set give 50.2 plus the 1.87%hp, plus the proc.
  6. Personally, I love having the 6-piece set bonus from Gaussian's combined with maneuvers. Together that combo is fairly significant survivability for me, and the two powers help anyone I'm with as gravy.

    Solo Leveling?

    [ QUOTE ]
You know, you're already playing a video game. You already have 1 level of unreality going on. Don't let the step to 2 bother you, especially when it comes with no loss of fidelity -- it's not like you have to control your characters as they move their fingers across a keyboard, or grit your teeth in frustration when their AE simulator crashes or their graphics card overheats.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I wonder if those will be included in missions for the Praetorian AE from Going Rogue.
  8. I like the infirmary because it makes my self-destruct a "teleport to base" power.

    Crafting tables are very handy.

Inspiration storage is great for TF/SFs.

For many of my characters the enhancement stations are a godsend. Especially that -knockback enhancement.

Storage is not just for hording. Imagine this scenario: Have one character in the group memorize many useful common IO recipes. Let people leave salvage in a specified bin and send that cahracter an email with a requested IO. Craft and drop it into another bin for them to pick up.

Another scenario: Transfer salvage/IO's etc between your own characters without needing a second person's help. This was useful to me last winter as I picked up three of the slow resist IOs on a level 12 character and passed them to characters who needed them and wanted low-enough versions that they would stick around while exemplared.
  9. I don't consider those guides. Those are lists.

By contrast, a guide would help walk you through the decision making process of which day jobs are good for your AT, and for someone wanting them all in the least amount of time, a walkthrough of stand here-log out-move there-log out-move there-logout, etc.
  10. What do the Rikti Dropships count as?
  11. Also as JJDraken said and most others seem to forget, defensive toggles still suppress.

So if you are slept, THEN hit with knockback, you'll go flying. It'll unsupress afterward and it won't de-toggle, but it also won't be protecting you.
  12. To start, I'm on a Mac so I can't use Mids.

That said, I have a cold/ice defender (currently in his low 30s) who does great on teams, but is completely helpless when trying to solo missions. By "helpless" I am talking 5 to 7 blows to drop white-con minions, and I don't mess with EBs, I have to drop those missions out of frustration. So my team-friendly build just doesn't cut it and I need to use my second build to make him more soloable.

Currently I have the below powers (slotting and order aren't relevant since I'm using my second build so I won't get to keep any of them):
    -----
    Cold/:
    Infrigidate
    Ice Shield
    Snow Storm
    Glacial Shield
    Artic Fog
    Benumb
    Sleet
    Heat Loss

    /Ice
    Ice Blast
    Frost Breath
    Aim
    Ice Storm

    Power Pools:
    Haste

    Combat Jumping
    Super Jump

    Hurdle
    Health
    Stamina

    ---------
Now, dropping the shields is an obvious place to start since I can't benefit from them. Frostbreath I have not enjoyed very much, so I'm thinking of dropping that one also. It does to reasonable damage, and I have a proc in it, but the activation time is so slow that I don't like using it solo.

I'm looking at taking the Freeze rays (I respecced out of them for teams when everyone killed the mobs so fast they seemed a wasted power), or at least one of them. Though usually things are already so slow from sleet, snow storm, and Ice Storm that a hold isn't needed. I'd rather spend that time doing more damage. Bitter Ice Blast's recharge time doesn't look like it is worthwhile except as an opener. Been contemplating Ice Bolt over Ice Blast for that same reason. Put procs into it to compensate for the lower base damage and capitalize on the shoot faster side of it. Or is it worth getting all three just to have more ways to deal damage?
  13. Chris,

Just curious, why did you opt to go with level 40 common IOs instead of 50s?

Yes, I know how the messages work. My point was if you were trying to spawn him, and he had already been spawned before you started, possibly before you even logged in, then no matter how many demons you kill he's not going to spawn again. If he wandered off somewhere away from the tree, you might not know he was spawned. In that case, killing all the demons was a waste. Once you clearly go past the number required, it's time to assume he is already out there somewhere and go find him.

    Or, you can /bug it.

All you are supposed ot have to do is kill 100 Nerva Spectral Deamons between the (in game) hours of 0600 and 2000. Well, several thousand kills later, and still nothing.
Is there some sort of bug with Caleb? I know I seen a msg in my chat yesterday that he had spawned.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Did you ensure thoroughly before you began that he hadn't already been spawned and lured somewhere weird? I don't think you can have more than one out at a time.

    [ QUOTE ]
And as far as I know, Caleb is the only GM Red side that can be spawned...atleast according to every source on the web...

[u]Let's get right to Damage Set Bonuses[u]:
Damage Set Bonuses make me sad. Let me make you sad about them too.
So the question here is: WHY?
Why is damage so crappy of a set bonus, while Acc and Rech are so good?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Damage is King.
Nothing will move you forward but damage.
Aside of a very few exceptions, the only solution to our all problems is "skullbash it till it stops moving".
No amount of control, healing or mitigation will get you through the day if you dont have damage to complement it.
I suppose the Devs limited the access to damage bonuses to limit our ability to get back to pre-ED level of uber damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think there's a little more at play. Let's pretend they add a wide array of new sets and you can get 5 of each level of % damage bonus (1, 2, 3, and 4%) that nets a total of +50%.

If I can borrow Fulmens technique of mind reading the devs without really mindreading the devs, I think they know we will never reduce the slotting of our damage on any character, ever.

    Never.

We might pull out an accuracy if we get enough set bonuses, but lets be honest, what did you put in that newly vacated slot? It was almost certainly a recharge or damage or proc. We will never pull out a damage enhancer unless we somehow find a way to hit the cap without temporary buffs (or on a build that can self-buff to the cap regularly).

And this gets directly to the difference between Accuracy and Damage: Accuracy is binary, damage is scaled. You either hit or miss, there is no bonus for "hitting really really accurately". Any extra accuracy is wasted. Extra damage is only wasted on the one blow where the enemy dies. Until you can 1-shot AVs there is no such thing as "too much" damage.

    Energy Question

    [ QUOTE ]
Yeah going against elite bosses and higher they are at a disadvantage. In normal group play those aoe's cause havoc to a spawn.

[/ QUOTE ]If my normal experience was group play, that might actually matter. So the whole single-target damage is really where I'm at. Sometimes there is a second enemy to fight. Usually, I line my cones up wrong and only get one of them. I hate cones. I like PBAOE's. Sigh.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
"Accepted fact" does not equal "fact". "Facts" are things that are true, not necessarily things that are thought to be true. The only facts that are mutable over time are pieces of information about things that are changing over time. I'll concede the point that "facts are debatable"-- people debate over facts all the time. That doesn't mean that it's objectively possible to prove that the facts are on one side or the other: it was never objectively true that the Earth was flat, and therefore it was never a fact.

[/ QUOTE ]Even if your definition of fact is correct, it is a Fact that the weight of a Kilogram is changing over time. I forget the reference link to the news article. But the official weight that is used to define 1 Kilogram, is losing mass.
  20. Riley, you're only sort of right. Both work only on you the MM. Read the Soulbound Allegiance carefully. It gives you (the MM) an aura. The aura gives your pets the bonus when they are close to you.

Gaussian's only affects you. And, if you weren't aware, it is only half as powerful as normal buildup.

    Energy Question

You know, those tables explain a lot of my experiences. My prime scrapper is BS/, secondary is Spines/. My brutes are Electric/ and SS/. So other than the SS brute, I basically have a clean sweep of the bottom of the damage pool.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Personally, I like the idea of a shardless world because it makes it easier to advance the storyline in a dynamic way. Suppose the devs set something up where there was a special event in Dark Astoria, and whether or not the permanent fog dissipated depended on how many heroes successfully completed the event. With multiple servers, you'd get some with one result and some with another. That would fork the ongoing development, which would cause all kinds of headaches later on.

[/ QUOTE ]I believe that Asheron's Call did something like this, but what they did was the first group on any shard to complete the quest forwarded the story along pre-determined lines for all shards. So no forking.

I will confirm that Runescape has the exact server layout that the OP asks about you create your character and you can log into any world you want. They limit free players to some servers, and pay players to others, but many pay players log into the free servers because of economic differences there are some crafting items that you buy free and sell pay, and others you do the inverse (free players can harvest wood but have nothing to do with it but burn it as a camp fire while pay players can fletch arrows, hence buying wood cheap on free servers and selling it on pay servers is a great source of cash).

Runescape handles the naming just fine. Millions and millions of characters, most of them have perfectly unique names. Lots of people with totally lame names like xx123_bob_321xx and so on. Overall it works. Each server is limited to 2000 players at a time, they setup a queue if one gets full, and they have an option to "jump to an open server" where you let them assign you and you never have to wait.

Many of the servers do have unique flavor and cultures. For instance as the game has grown, there are servers where specific quests and areas are full all the time. Sort of if CoH had one server that ran Sewer Trials and another that ran Hami Raids. And if anyone wanted to do those, instead of trying to talk people on their own server to do it, you'd head to the "sewer" server and find a pug fast and easy. Then there is, I think Shard 7 or 17, which is the home of the ironically named OoC (Order of Cabbage) a roleplaying group who hang out picking cabbage and talking. Plus occasionally having group activities. Kah Bah GEE!!! Err, anyway, long-story-short: even on a system like this you could have (and do have) shards with unique personalities. There are many which are bland, but some have flavor. And people seek out that flavor intentionally.
