Quote:I'll say this: AE is better rewards until level 10. No salvage on regular missions until level 4 and no sets until 10. But AE tickets drop at level 1 and you can turn them in for bronze rolls, high-level rare salvage, or low-level random arcane commons. I run in AE until level 10 most of the time. With bosses turned off for my weaker characters. I run the LolBat story quite a lot =). It's hard but I love it.For the scrapper:
Run radios in KR versus Hellions (or CoT if thats the only option) solo. Run the safeguard and pick Lorenzo DiCosta, Wes Schnabel, or Willy Starbuck.
Run missions for that contact until you unlock the Bonefire Arc (1st mission Stop the Gang war).
Run the Bonefire Arc.
By the time you finish that arc you should have 2-3 luck charms. Post a little above the 'last 5' rate, and you should more or less double your current wealth from those sales alone.
The other arcane salvage you get will just be the bonus.
Reside the market demand for salvage is much softer, but there is plenty of inf to be made selling low level crafted common IOs. I have a step by step guide in the makrt forum guides section you can follow.
Post level 10, I go back out for the stories. -
Quote:Actually, this is not completely accurate. Here is the wiki page listing the comparisons between IOs and SOs at various levels. Notice that a +0 SO gives 33.3%. A level 17 Triple IO gives 32.7%. Level 21 Dual IOs give 33.6 and level 18 Triples give 34.7%. IOs match SOs when your character is level 14 and they only get better from there on up.Now at 22 you can purchase SOs... and you'll find that IOs give you about the same percentage. The thing is, as long as you have the funds SO stacked will continue to outshine the similar IO until level 25 .. from 25 to 27, when you can replace with 30 is the best time to start using the IOS.
Quote:A 40 level IO gives you more than a similar 50 level SO.
Seems to me that by the time you're slotting level 40 generic IOs you've spent both inf and time replacing worn our SOs. -
I'm looking to update my iMac's internals. I've got the oldest metal iMac out there, the 2007 model 24-inch.
Currently I have 2g of Ram, going up to 4 which is the most this thing can have. Where I'm stuck is what options I have, and what options I even want to consider as far as my graphics card.
Right now it's a Radeon HD2600.
What will work with my model of iMac and what is, err, one or two steps down from top-of-the-line at most. I don't like top of the line for the cost factor, but want to be close to that for longevity.
Any recommendations? -
Not working happily on my iMac. Alt-Tab and returning to the game causes instant crash. Whole screen goes brownish-grey. Mouse works, nothing else. Have to Alt-Tab back out and force quit.
Used to be able to go in and out without a problem as long as I kept to only one or two programs running in the back. -
Quote:I start IOs at level 14 (character) level 17 (IO) when the triples become equivalent to SOs in total bonus. Sometimes I'll pickup a 10-16 if it drops and I can craft it. By 20 I'm all IOs with only the oddball DO/SO that drops and I have an empty slot for.I've heard a lot of advise from others, but it kinda goes both ways, so I'm coming out and asking.
Is it more cost effective to make and slot level 15 common IOs at level 12, than to buy DOs at 12 and again at 17?
How about at level 22? Should I stick with SOs until I can start slotting level 35 IOs, or start moving things to IOs right away?
This is, of course, only about common IOs. Sets I don't usually deal with until a character is in the 40s. (Exceptions being made more on individual powers than on Characters in general.)
And this is for both Red Side and Blue Side toons.
Thanks, all!
I use cheap sets and what drops with a few generics and I sell most of my drops. I tend to have around 800k inf/level average profit after paying for salvage and a few crafted set IOs as I go. This is by the 30s. After that selling my drops really starts to pay off and I can buy nearly anything I want (note: I usually want the cheap stuff =) anyway).
My "final" builds are meant to exemplar so sets run from level 35 to 40 if I want the bonuses, and for frankenslotted powers I aim for 40 for duals, 43 for triples and 50 for quads so I get to keep 100% of the enhancement value all the way down to level 21. This means there's no reason to wait to level 50 to slot a level 35 IO. I can do that at 32 if I can get it.
I tossed up a detailed comparison of cost here. But short version is keeping yourself SO'd from 22 to 50 costs over 200k inf per slot. In my opinion, spending 450k once is a lot better than going back to the store over and over and over. And if you go with generics you can get those at over SO bonus for less than 100k. -
Quote:Yeah ninja run is handy. I also spend money on jet packs once my first freebie runs out.Maybe getting Hover at 22 instead of CJ then Fly at 24 or 30, delaying Fitness (with Fly at 24) or Fighting (if you get at 30), and scrapping Soul Storm.
If you want it earlier, you can live without Murky Cloud till later. The Hover at 14 and Fly at 18 / 20, delaying S. Life (I wouldn't) or Dark Regen (getting it at 22, Murky at 24 and delaying Stamina a bit).
Stalker builds are hella tight in the early levels, I'm happy there's Ninja Run now.
Usually I try to get Air Superiority instead of hover specifically to get another attack early on, but looks like the slot is needed for recharge, that's what makes it a bit tricky. Don't want to disorder things too much but could take boxing early then hover and fly late, hmmm. Gotta be a way.
My current dark/dark/dark is really messed up. Trying to think of ways to fix it without making it worse. hehe. -
That looks like a fun build. Here's a really hard question though: How could you mod it to fit fly for a travel power?
-
Umbral, do you have a purpled build for BS/Regen?
I'm looking at something to work on for my second build since my primary is just about finished. though that build you posted above gave me some interesting upgrades to think about. -
Quote:Out of curiosity, why avoid the swords? I can see fire sword itself, but Fire Sword Circle is really a lot better than fire breath as an AoE.I have not been able to play much recently, due to work, however I want to make a new alt. Im thinking fire/fire/fire, but I dont want to use swords (concept). I might build with swords and respect later to help level the toon.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks! -
As the person who mentioned team reactions to hurricane, I'll point out that I have never actually used hurricane while grouped. I have been asked not to use it on at least 8 occasions (I don't really count, but that is a rough number I'm sure is lower than reality). Including once after I had already respecced out of it.
That's just a measure of how much people hate knock powers. Or to be more precise, how much they hate the people who don't know how to properly use Knock. -
Quote:From the Stalker Forums:Chain Induction has gone from being the buggiest power in the game to being a good solid power that does exactly what's advertised... but it's not a must-have, by any means. It's definitely one I recommend people try on the Test Server first, to decide if it meshes with their particular playstyle. Personally, I find my other more immediate AoEs killing things off too quickly for the CI jumps to do their job a lot of the time. I still use it as a decent single-target attack, though.
Quote:In order, the DPA attacks for Stalker Electric Melee after accounting for server ticks are:
Chain Induction (1.111 damage scale/sec)
Lightning Rod (0.866 - assumed near the center)
Jacob's Ladder (0.812)
Charged Brawl (0.795)
Assassin's Shock (0.789)
Havoc Punch (0.769)
Thunder Strike (0.571 to primary target)
So, as 2 of the top 3 DPA attacks in the set - and the other one is on a 90 second base recharge, how do you think they do at high levels in Electric Melee?
ChainInd-ChargedB-Brawl-JLadder-ChargedB-Brawl-HavokP-ChargedB-Brawl
Best overall attack chain (includes "stupidly high" recharge):
Gloom/Chain Induction/Jacob's Ladder/Charged Brawl
Notice how Chain Induction is the highest damage attack per animation time in the entire set by a very large margin and that it is a key part of the top attack chains at both poor slotting, and optimal slotting levels. It also bounces to up to 5 enemies and can trigger procs on each bounce.
So, out of honest curiosity and with no snark at all, if that doesn't make it a "must have", what would be required? -
@Dave: Just to throw this out for you in case you didn't know. Since I see you're sticking to SOs, a lot of people have the false impression that IOs are too expensive:
Cost of IOs vs SOs (with thanks to Catwhoorg for the math). Cost of purchased SOs starting at level 25 and updating every 5 levels through 50 (so no "greening up" and you let them lose effectiveness, for the cheapest possible path): 266,112 Inf. Crafting a memorized generic level 25 IO: ~60,000 (salvage cost varies). You can often get less desirable Set IOs (Paralyze instead of Basilisk's Gaze for instance) for a bit more than SOs in the 350k to 650k range is not at all uncommon. Less if you buy the recipe and make it yourself.
Also, you can get SO-level of performance out of IOs as early as level 17 on the triples, which you can slot at level 14. SOs you can't slot until level 22 not counting the weird outlier SO's that spawn when an AV drops.
When you exemplar down later on IOs can potentially keep 100% of their bonus.
Example: Slotting Strangler with
Ruin - Accuracy/Endurance/Recharge: Level 40
Devastation - Accuracy/Damage/Endurance/Recharge: Level 50
Devastation - Accuracy/Damage/Recharge: Level 43
Thunderstrike - Accuracy/Damage/Endurance: Level 43
Thunderstrike - Damage/Endurance/Recharge: Level 43
Thunderstrike - Accuracy/Damage/Recharge: Level 43
Gives a total bonus of: 93.18% Accuracy, 93.57% Damage, 76.8% Endurance Reduction and 93.18% Recharge Reduction. You CANNOT get bonuses this high from SOs. Best you could possibly do would be 66% Acc, 99% Dam and either 33 Recharge or 33 reduction.
If you then exemplar down to level 20, the IOs are still 93%, 93%, 76%, 93% while the SOs drop down to 20%, 30%, 10% respectively.
IOs: Cheaper, Higher Bonus, Let you Exemplar, and you can slot them sooner.
But if you want to go SOs, the no worries. Just don't do it because you think you're saving money or Sets are for later. etc. -
I'm fairly certain they tried. But let's face it... we are talking about Regen here, shooting it isn't the most effective way to get rid of something that heals too much.

Quote:Actually, only if you're slotting low-level EndMods. At level 50 you're hitting ED that makes the third generic IO not really as impressive as the second. Also, if you want to max out your benefit from Stamina, 4 slots with performance shifter proc, end mod, em/acc, em/rech gives more than 3x end mod and more than proc+3endmod. Plus you have the proc to help during any effect that turns off recovery, which is most useful for blasters/corrs/defenders but sometimes useful for everyone.I'm pretty sure statistically you're better off with a third EndMod in Stamina than the Performance Shifter proc. Granted, the proc will randomly be way better, over time it's not as good.
Somewhere in the scrapper forums there was a great breakdown of all the different ways you can slot stamina for 2, 3, and 4 slots and what was the stam/sec from it. For 3 slots the ideal is proc, and 2xend mod. Might as well use the second perf shifter since you get the set bonus. -
On mine (currently 31) I found that snow storm and hurricane weren't helping me much. When I used them and when I didn't use them I pretty much took the same damage solo.
In teams snowstorm was a bit useful to stop runners and keep groups bunched long enough for AoE's to shred them. Hurricane was largely loathed and even if I didn't turn it on people would see it in my info page and send me messages asking I not use it.
I've respecced out of both and don't regret it one bit.
If you can, sell all your drops and you should be able to pickup a -Knockback IO pretty easily. You will greatly appreciate it! Edit: If you can't afford one, then look into the base enhancement buffs. There is a 1-hour buff that only costs 2 common salvage and 1 uncommon and gives you Mag 10 -kb for an hour that lasts through death.
Edit 2: Look into the really cheap hold sets (paralyze, etc). They have duals and triples that sell crafted for only a few hundred k inf around level 20-30. If you drop two duals or two triples into Vines you can get a much better set of bonuses and that will make the power a good bit more helpful. I found I really appreciated having it up when facing bosses so I could toss Strangler-Vines-Roots-Strangler and get the boss held, plus lock his pack out of melee with Roots. Cycling Strangler as soon as it comes up will keep them held, but the vines is great to lock them fast on the first cycle. Using some cheap sets starting right at level 18 you'll appreciate it.
I can give you plenty of advice on frankenslotting on a budget if you are interested. In the end cheap IOs are vastly cheaper than using SOs and you get higher bonuses as well. -
I'll disagree with the advice in one area: Chain Induction is a spectacular power. It used to be buggy, but is currently fast, hard hitting, and a reliable AoE. Just don't use it to kill someone as it only jumps if the target lives. Great for hitting a boss or lieut who is surrounded by minions. I will always take this before I take Jacob's Ladder.
Also, procs test on every jump. This used to be the heard of the bugs, but it currently works fine. -
Resurrecting this from the second page since there were no replies. No one has a vote on a good techie map?

Somewhere (and I've utterly failed to find it after trying a few times) there is a thread where Arcanaville is talking about levelling and exp per defeat and how the best ratio of xp to damage dealt is off of a +2 boss. I dunno if anyone in that thread had any good data that would help your mission, but it was relatively recent and might be helpful if you can track it down.

Quote:Some things I've found that really helped my low-level characters:Well that's very interesting. I guess I just have horrible luck at the BM, because I always try to generate as much infamy as possible for everything posted for sale... maybe I'm just doing it wrong.
1. Listing common salvage for more than 100each drastically lowers your income over time.
2. Listing uncommon salvage for more than 500each drastically lowers your income over time.
3. low-level rares might as well be uncommon (enriched plutonium, heads-up display, etc).
4. Large inspirations are a spectacular source of inf. All of them sell overnight for 60k+ many for 200k+. If you get even 6 per level you are looking at or over 1 million inf from inspirations alone.
I found that making more money per item sold, really hurt me overall. Stuff would sit there for awhile. Now, when I log in everything is sold. Enough of it for more than when I had a higher listing price that I have no qualms listing for very, very low prices. Though specific big-ticket items I do list at a bit below the going rate rather than at basement prices. Sold a crafted Miracle +Regen for less than 400k to learn that lesson. -
Quote:Unless you exemp a lot, where the exemplar effects kick in before enhancement diversification, so overslotting makes a huge difference. Meanwhile, the damage the proc does is based on your active level and will drop as well.Well if you're using purple sets, you'll most likely be using at least 5 slots for them and in that case I always drop the Damage enhancement in favor for the proc.
Also keep in mind which power you are putting it into. Some powers have such low base damage that enhancing the damage does much less than adding a proc. -
Large insps = great source of money for low-level characters.

You get one hour out the basement pit a day for exercise.
Fair warning: Be wary of exploring Jolly's gallery, lots of it is NSFW. And most of the rest is really weird. But this image is neither, though it is funny and a good response to that article. -
Can you edit the post to be readable? All the code makes it hard to see the build.

Quote:Also, the frankenslotted build will not be effected by exemplaring back down later on due to Step 1 of the exemplaring formula (link goes to the wiki page explaining the process). If you've made it to level 50 and have the above SOs slotted then exemp down to level 25, your bonuses drop to 69% damage, 48% accuracy, and 24% recharge. But the IO'd build is still at 95/67/33 because no single bonus is higher than 20%.The second build can be slotted 4 levels earlier and never has to be replaced. It also has more flexibility than SOs, which have to be slotted in full 33% increments. The frankenslotted build can replace an Accuracy/Damage with a Damage/Endurance and take a small hit to ACC for a small amount of END. And if you add in triple aspects you can slot them even earlier and still get more benefit than an SO. Oh, and even with frankenslotting you still get a tiny bit of set bonus (above gets 4% regen and 3% run speed).
