  1. I'm disappointed in the plethora of bugs that came with Hybrid.

Aside from that, I like my Hybrids.

The Assault Radial on my fortunata feels like a nice Build Up like power without the burning need to stuff as many attacks as possible into a meager 10s window of "standard" Build Ups.

The Melee Core I have on my shield scrapper is nicely complemented with OwtS to provide resistances for an extended time.

I still have to decide which Hybrids to get for my two brutes, my domi and my corr, but so far, I like my Hybrids
  2. My claws/elec brute has 32.5% S/L/N/E defense and with Darkest Night on top of that, it's a very solid setup. Probably the most sturdy toon I have.
  3. Thanks for the input so far. Here are my thoughts so far :

    * I can remove one slot from Mind Link. 3 Def/Rec set IOs are enough to get to 59%+ M/R/A while maintaining perma Mind Link.

    * Slotting Subdue as an Immobilize - nope, not going to happen.

    * On the other hand, a little bit of Hold might provide some leeway for easier controlling, so I'd put a Ghost Widow's Hold/End IO in there. Saving endurance is never bad

    * Reducing Stamina from 4 pieces of PS to 2 PS + 1 EndMod IO will lose 0.09 end/s and the 20hp bonus from PS, but makes one slot available.

    * With that slot, I can bolster Subdue with a Damage/Recharge from Thunderstrike, because for one of my three main single target attacks, Subdue was woefully underslotted.

    * Regarding Hover, let me quote Mordecai from Borderlands : "We're going too slow." The lack of air control makes Fly unsuitable for me as a travel power. I'll stick to hopping around like a bunny.

    * Erads in Wail won't do it for me. To keep the 3.13% AoE defense from the 5 pieces of Scirocco, Wail would have to be six slotted with Erads. That sixth slot is a slot I don't have. Even if I could afford a sixth slot in Wail, I then could just put a recharge IO there to reduce recharge even more.

    * The Coercive Persuasion proc definitely stays in Confuse. A spammable "almost AoE" confuse ? yes please !

    * I don't see the benefit to six slot Aura of Confusion with six pieces of CP because the 6 slot bonus - 5% ranged def - isn't so useful for this build. I was hard pressed to get AoE defense to the level I wanted, not ranged defense. And while having the other five pieces of CP in Aura would be nice, as I mentioned in my original post, that's outside my current budget but something I might aim for in the future.

With this in mind, I arrived at this build :

Edit : fixed the bad data chunk.
  4. This is what I intend to run on my Fortunata to break my melee addiction habit.

Please note that one of my build goals was to have 45%+ M/R/A defense out of stealth and w/o Mind Link and use Mind Link to hit 59%+ M/R/A for trials/new DA.
This is because I tend to "forget" to use abilities such as ML or Aim when I solo

Other goals were having decent +recharge, perma Mind Link and not taking any melee attacks (Brawl doesn't count )

If she continues to provide as much fun as she does now (level 40 so far), I will try to obtain a set of Coercive Persuasion for Aura of Confusion, but right now, a second purple set is outside my budget.

    DM/FA brute help

    HI,

I'm going to hijack the thread a bit because I'm looking for input for my own DM/FA

Below is the build I'm currently aiming for at this time. S/L softcap, a meager 60% recharge and horrible slotting on Consume and Dark Consumption because of the S/L softcap.

For the time being I plan to get the Agility Core Alpha and depending on how the Agility + taunt slotted end drainers work out I will pick up Ageless or something else.

I would be grateful if I could get some hints about improving this build (while staying at 45% S/L). Thanks in advance !

(Edit : I don't want to use PvP IOs.)

  6. Look there : http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=216944

(warning ! those are pre inherent fitness builds, but easily upgraded)

Also, if you want something for farming, roll a ss/fire/mu :P
  7. I had this problem for some time on my ss/fire brute - and for some reason only that toon. Random powers (but only on bar 1) went grey upon zoning regularly.
As I play at least 5 tip missions each day with 3-4 chars and never saw this problem on a different toon, I believed it to be char specific.

I rejoiced when those problems went away with the patch roughly four weeks ago.

Yesterday it hit me again. This time on my claws/elec brute and my plant/fire dominator
  8. I like the new CoT costume with the exception of the long purple thingies that stick out of the Death Mage shoulders.
  9. With the double XP weekend soon upon us, I'm tempted to try a dominator.
Would the build below be a decent start point for a first time dom ?

Exactly 45% s/l according to my Mids.
  11. I used to have a similar problem under Win7, running two windowed instances. The "second", not visible instance usually became unresponsive (the dreaded "No response" in the window title) after a while.

Properly minimising the second instance and using "/maxinactivefps 5" in both instances fixed it for me.
  12. My vote would go to katana over dual blades.

On one hand, I don't like the combos from dual blades. Miss one attack and the chain is ruined. Bah.

On the other hand, Divine Avalanche rocks !

But I'm somewhat biased as I plan to roll a katana/regen Brute when Freedom goes live
  13. You don't need an expensive IO build to farm. You can even do it with SOs.

Set your mission difficulty to +0/x8, go to any AE building, search for "fire invasion", "FIRE!", "fire cyborgs" or similar terms and get some tickets.

In each run, collect just 750 tickets so that completing the mission will put you at the hard cap of 1500 for one mission.

Use those tickets to buy some recipes, sell the good ones at your favorite Wentworths or Black Market, sell the bad ones at the nearest vendor and repeat.

Then, after you feel that you are now sufficiently rich, read this thread

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=250051

from first page to last page, and you should have enough hints how to build a super expensive ss/fire/mu farmer.
  14. Horrible.

    Not enough +recharge.
No Force Feedback +recharge Proc in Footstomp.
    No Perma Rage.
S/L defense isn't so hot in fire farms.
Obliteration in Blazing Aura because Blazing Aura needs the recharge .. not.
The 5 piece bonus for Numina is irrelevant.
Ring of Fire is a waste of animation time. Lose the proc.
Better yet, get Mu mastery for two additional AOEs instead of one.
If you 5 slot Positron's Blast, use the proc instead of Damage/Range.

    Edit :

This is what my farmer boy runs. It is probably also far from optimal and prone to be labeled "horrible" by the pro fire farmers, but it works smoothly for me.
(And yes, I know there's one 5% recharge bonus too much, but I hope to upgrade one single target attack with a purple set one day *cough*)

If you don't object to the methods presented in http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=263212 leveling will be a breeze. You might want to step out of the AE every 5 levels for the mayhem missions, their exploration badges and the associated Invader accolade.
  16. Hello fellow Brutes,

I'm looking for a few opinions regarding the build I planned for my latest Brute and if it will perform in practice.

I aim to put this char through the Incarnate grinder and thought that Electric Armor might be a good choice for that.

The idea of the build is, in addition to the usual resists from Electric Armor, to have decent S/L/N/E defenses, complemented by Darkest Night. Then some +recharge, helped greatly by Lightning Reflexes and a Spiritual Alpha (the plan is to get the 45% one), providing more frequent heals from Energize and gaining endurance regularly from Power Sink.
And, if possible, keeping the build within my budget, which at this moment is approx. 1.3 billion inf and 12 A-merits

Beyond that, I'm planning to use Reactive (DoT plus -res, which should help Claws), Storm Elementals (for thematic reasons) and am torn between Barrier (more def & res) or Ageless (end plus +recharge).

The things I'm not sure about in this build are :

    * choice of Destiny - Barrier (instinctively my first choice), Ageless or even Rebirth ?

    * slotting of Health, Stamina and Lightning Field. Achieving my defense and recharge goals left me with 0 slots to put into those three powers.
With the +regen from Energize being up fairly often no slots in Health shouldn't matter. I hope the same holds for Stamina with endurance covered by Power Sink. LF, on the other hand ... no idea if the single Acc/End in there is enough.

    * Gloom. I heard that Gloom is a nice attack and was wondering if I should try to include (a properly slotted) Gloom in my attack chain.

Thanks in advance for your opinions and suggestions !

When you complete one patron arc (up to the point when you are granted your respec), all four patron power pools will be available at the trainer.

Edit : And if you already have completed the patron arc and respec, you can choose from any of the four patron pools and the four "hero" pools.
  18. You might want to check out Fury Flechette's (elec/fire)/shield build collection here -> http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=216944

(Warning : those are pre-inherent fitness builds, but easily tweaked)

Comparing your build to the "moderate" elec/shield build posted there, I'd say that one comes a lot cheaper than yours with the purples and has overall better attributes.
Also, I'm currently collecting the IOs for that moderate build (plus Grant Cover plus OwS plus Confront) and am therefore biased

Your build : 63.8% global recharge, 210% regen, end delta of 1.83
FF moderate : 60% global recharge, 262% regen, end delta of 2.11

You will also have fewer hp because True Grit lacks the healing %

If you just want to tweak your build, I'd suggest swapping the slots in OwS and Tough.
After that, you might want to lose the -Knockback Steadfast and/or the BotZ -Knockback. Active Defense has enough -kb/-kd protection/resist.
  19. Thanks for the suggestions.

I worked them in and also dropped one Recharge from Rain of Fire in favor of putting two Dampened Spirits (rec, rec/end) in Seeker Drones to get them under 40s and get a 2% damage bonus for free.

  20. Hi,

I recently got hooked on a fire/traps corr and with level 50 approaching soon-ish I would like to ask you guys for a quick sanity check on the build I threw together.

    Some key points :

    - I don't think I can afford purples, pvp recipes or hamiOs
    - I don't want to take the snipe, Inferno or Time Bomb
    - I like my character to being alive and blasting and would rather take 2% survivability than 2% more damage

With this in mind I aimed for :

    - obscene amounts of s/l defense. I figure that with 55%+ I can take one debuff (9% iirc) and still be above the softcap
    - a decent amount of energy defense for Lambda/BAF
    - softcapped negative and ranged defense
    - everything else, except psi def, can be softcapped with a small purple if necessary

So are there any really, really stupid things or glaring oversights I missed ?

    Thanks !

Edit : I forgot to mention that it's supposed to be an all purpose build.

Try the scrapper forums -> http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=216944

IMO Fury Flechette's build collection should be a sticky there

I have both a ss/fire brute (50 for three days now) and an elec/shield scrapper (cheap build, but T3s in all incarnate slots) and after running comparable ambush maps in AE (fire for the brute, s/l for the scrapper) I would say that the brute is much more efficient there.
However, in other "farming" content - e.g. running random radio missions at x8 - or on TFs or trials, the scrapper feels much more durable.

Since elec/shield is "better" on a scrapper than on a brute due to the pseudo pet damage cap (unless they changed something I didn't noticed), I don't think an elec/shield brute should be given precedence.
  22. Gallifrey

    Tank Farmer

I farm on my Inv/Fire tanker on +1/x8 with bosses and unless I run Malta maps and fail to spot the sapper, it's 100% pure boredom because I'm in no danger of dying.
The killing speed of other ATs or power combinations might be superior, but my tank performs exactly how I like it.
  23. I'd recommend moving Unyielding to 8 and Invincibility to 18.

Unyielding is just awesome to have and you probably face nasties like Rectors and Magmite Lords earlier than level 16.
And Invincibility is just .. that. Soon after you get that, single pulls become boring.

Regarding Invul/Elec as a combination, it worked rather well for me up to level 38. Some minor things annoyed me, like Chain Induction not jumping from defeated enemies or Thunderstrike being a pbaoe around the target, forcing me continuously position the enemies to maximize the effect. It was fun though to watch Freakshow tanks not being able to fire their Dull Pain because they had no endurance.

Then I got Lightning Rod and after brief calculations that without a budget to buy major +recharge IOs and no place for Hasten in my setup, LR was going to be a stinker for my intended playing style and rerolled as an Invul/Fire tanker

  25. Today's patch broke the sound of Invincibility for me. No sound when I activate the toggle, but if an enemy is within range, the "power-up" sound starts looping.
