i cant for the life of me figure out a good all round build. take a look at this, most of these sets and powers he already has, but im willing to finagle thanks. he will do some farming, but needs to be able to step out of AE and actually do a mission without gobbling candy

I do not have mids at work, so I cannot offer an alternative build. But I have been working on a DM/Fire build for a few weeks on and off. So I have a few suggestions based on what I can see in your build.

1. Fire Shield/Plasma Shield need to be slotted better. I would stick the Steadfast Protection unique and KB protection in Temperature protection. I would 4-slot FS and PS with Reactive Armor. You did it backwards in your build (I'm not sure why).

2. You took a lot of pool powers but not many Epics. Accuracy is pretty easy to get with sets, so I wouldn't take tactics since its another toggle. Fighting powers are pretty good but I would take them earlier for when you exemplar. I would drop some of the pool powers in the build and trade them for one of the epics. With 3-slotted stamina, consume and dark consumption, you really don't need superior condition (read: overkill). So I would consider Earth or Pyre on blue side or Mu or Darkness on red side. Conceptually, darkness or pyre would streamline well with DM/Fire for obvious reasons.

3. Leaping: Three power slots used up for a travel power, a defense mule, and an aoe attack that pales in comparison to burn. Personally, I use Ninja Run, Hoverboard, and temporary powers for my travels. Over in First Ward you can actually buy 90 minutes of flight for 1,000 influence from Seed Collectors, so at the beginning of the day with my 50s I go over there real quick, buy 10hrs worth and I'm good. This is assuming you have the inf (at 10,000/day, its pretty affordable). So I never put travel pools in my build. Hoverboard/Flying Carpet and Ninja Run/Beast Run are definitely worth the investment. You will not regret spending the Paragon Points.

4. Leadership: Unless I have room in my build for Vengeance, which is useful in TFs/iTrials, etc, I only take Manuevers as a last resort (i.e. My build is so lame another 2% defense is worth it). Of course, it can be a mule if you don't want another toggle on.

5. Consume/Dark Consumption: Since you have two stamina draining powers, you have the option to slot one them for PBAOE damage instead of endurance. Eradication is okay, but I would opt for Obliteration if I could afford it since it doesn't cap out until later.

6. Psionic Resistance: All psionic attacks are ranged. Well, most. So building up ranged defense is probably more effective than using the Aegis unique in your build. Especially when another set would offer better defense.

7. Shadow Maul: Obliteration. Nuff said.

8. Fiery Embrace: I'm not sure if it'll take it, but if it will, Gaussian's Synchronized Fire-Control six-slotted has a nice defense bonus for build up type powers.

thanks for the input, this is not the builds i currently run but one i was playing with. I will take some of your things into consideration and fiddle a bit more. The power placement isn't the way i chose them as i leveld just the way i chose them while on Mids, also, the energy mastery is what i currently have, but if i have my druthers i would like to get over to redside and pick up the patron soul. I kinda like the spring attack, but im not married to it, and don't you find shadow maul to have a kinda slow animation? anyways, i'll try to post another build in a bit for a look over, thanks for your time

HI,

I'm going to hijack the thread a bit because I'm looking for input for my own DM/FA

Below is the build I'm currently aiming for at this time. S/L softcap, a meager 60% recharge and horrible slotting on Consume and Dark Consumption because of the S/L softcap.

For the time being I plan to get the Agility Core Alpha and depending on how the Agility + taunt slotted end drainers work out I will pick up Ageless or something else.

I would be grateful if I could get some hints about improving this build (while staying at 45% S/L). Thanks in advance !

Shadow Maul has a slow animation but in large mobs where you can aim the cone right it is worth it (i.e. when farming). In the early levels I used it hand in hand with Sands of Mu when doing 0/8 farms. If you are fighting a single target, then obviously do an ST attack chain.

Spring attack is a nice power, but requires three power slots to get. So I don't usually take it (or any travel power). Again, I use Ninja Run, Hoverboard and temp powers to fly in combat if needed. The Seed Collectors in First Ward sell 90 minutes of flight for 1,000 influence. So between all of the above, I can pass on the travel pools.

First off, I don't think that Consume, Dark Consumption, and Soul Drain should be slotted for damage. Sure, the thought that they'd be nice AoE damage might convince you otherwise, but that's not what they're designed for, IMO. Also, Consume is an auto-hit, so there's no reason to slot it for accuracy (however, keep in mind that Dark Consumption is not).

Secondly, Weave seems underslotted, and Maneuvers is absolutely unnecessary (you have 44.2% def without it on). If you plan on using Maneuvers as a LoTG mule, I feel like you'd be better off just dropping it and throwing Hasten in the build instead. You can easily achieve the softcap for S/L just by slightly changing Weave's slots around.

Thirdly, I feel like Gloom should be slotted for damage, not toHit debuff, and Soul Tentacles is definitely underslotted. I honestly know nothing about /Soul, though, so I can't really offer any other comments.

Finally, you're going to need a lot more knockback protection than 4. 8 is usually the minimum amount recommended, though I know some people will tell you to have 12. Personally, 8 is the magic number I shoot for, as that'll pretty much cover everything (heck, most mez protection powers offer 10 KB protection, so 8 is close enough).

I have a FA/DM/Pyre tank who isn't really slotted for defense, and he does just fine. Granted his resistances are a bit higher, but I rely a lot on having Healing Flames and Siphon Life up all the time (I use SL more for healing than for damage). He never runs into end issues because I have Consume and Dark Consumption balanced almost perfectly with his end drain. And Soul Drain + Burn + Fireball just melts mobs. I dropped Fiery Embrace with his most recent respec because I didn't feel like it was doing much for his build.

Also, I do agree about Shadow Maul having a slow animation. I read somewhere on these boards that it actually drops your dps and isn't really worth including. Sands of Mu is enough for me anyways.

Slotting Soul Drain, consume and dark consumption for damage is what I do, and I like the fact that I am buffing and damaging at the same time, plus the AoE on Soul Drain is large...

Gloom should be slotted for Damage, but to each their own, I don't often use Gloom....

Steal a slot from Manuevers and use it on weave with a LotG Def and change the triple to a Def/End and swap manuevers with hasten there with 1 recharge IO boosted to 50+5. You don't need the LotG triple on a toggle the recharge is worthless.

I use Shadow Maul in my AoE chain, and as a filler when needed in my ST chain. Shadow Maul gives good DPS in mobs, it is an average power on ST, most people don't like being rooted for 3 sec to get it off. To each their own...but it is nice when you hit about 5 or 6 or more enemies with it lined up right.

I agree with the KB protection being 8 that's what I run on my Dark Armor and Fire Aura toons, you can do 12 but not less than 8. EB's and AV's will still knock you around, but anything less will be fine.

I would personally slot Temp Protection better, because why choose Fire Aura to not be nearly impervious to Fire, but you can do as you like with your build.
