Understandable. I worked on a few build for people tonight already, so I'll likely look into yours tomorrow as well.

Yeah, I was following that discussion for awhile. I'll be sure to leave a buffer for your recharge.

Also, I think I've come to realize that I have a sickness... one that I think that you and several other forumites share. I love toying with builds as much as I enjoy playing the actual game. I haven't logged in at all today to play and spent all my time working on builds.
  2. I'm guessing maybe the build you'd referenced was my no-purples DM/SR, but I'm pretty sure that I would have slotted a number of things differently.

Firstly, yeah, the others are correct about having too many LotG +7.5 in there. You benefit from a max of 5. Secondly, SL should be slotted as an attack first and a heal second - it is your second best attack after MG.

Assuming you're going for the standard MG>Smite>SL>Smite attack chain, you'll want recharge values of 234.2% in MG, 184.1% in Smite, and 116.5% in SL.

In SD, you don't have any end Redux, which is going to hurt you in any protracted fighting, plus, since you've enhanced damage, you're going to kill your fodder. Generally, I slot SD to either give me a set bonuses(usually Oblits for +melee def) or frankenslot for Acc/Rech/End so as to not kill fodder.

Without SD or FA running, Smite is falling shy of 95% Acc vs. +4, but the other attacks achieve it.

I'll throw out my original I18 DM/SR data chunk followed by a quickly modified I19 version, in which I've steered away from using HOs since you've not used them in your build. Both builds run MG>Smite>SL>Smite.

Notes on the I19 build: Since I see you've got your 5-year vet reward and, by the looks of your build you wanted two travel powers, SJ is taken at 6th level, SS at 14, and CJ is not taken at all so as to fit in Aid Self. Finally, SD does not have any purples in it, but I did use two purples in SL, which will be a much better investment of your influence. If you have the influence to spend, you could slot SL with 3 Golgi/3 Nucleolus HOs as well.

Here's my original DM/SR build - it's the I18 build, but will import into the new I19 Mids just fine:

Nothing lowers DPS and burns more endurance than missing, and without set bonuses to boost your accuracy you're going to want that extra accuracy if you plan on fighting anything higher than +2. FU might cover this and allow the other attacks to be slotted with a single Acc SO, but if it misses, harder content will give some issues.

    Kat/SR totals

The build isn't bad, but it doesn't even have 95% DDR, which I consider a sin on an /SR toon.

HP are fine for not having the +HP Accolades, which if you got them, would put you at a decent 1812 HP and 20.33 HP/sec regen.

End consumption is at a good rate and you should be at or near sustainable, even with CJ on as it's such a minor drain for the def buffer and mobility it provides you.

Lastly, I would look to squeeze out some more +recharge to get the required needed to run the GD>GC>SD>GC chain. You'd need 250% in GD, 90% in GC, and 136% in SD. The first step would be to 3-slot Hasten for recharge.
  5. It would be easier for someone to assist you if you put together a build in Mids and posted it. If you don't have mids, download and tinker with it. If not that, at least give us an idea of what powers you want/need for concept, such as if you want/need a travel power, does your toon need to have Hover or Fly for concept, what epic pool you would want to use, etc. Without at least a modicom of information it's difficult to make you a build that will be acceptable for you.

That being said, here's a basic SO Claws/SR that has Super Speed, but you could swap that for Super Jump if you wanted:

OK, so I admit I'm terrible at attack chain calculations. I am, however, good at builds, if I have the recharge numbers you need for your attack chains. Sooo, would you mind posting your recharge requirements for the most demanding chain(ie the single DA one)? I'll then take a gander at what I can come up with.

Also, if you have time, I posted my Claws/SR build earlier today and would appreciate it if you'd sneak a peek at it and see what you think.
  7. Apparently my thread title is poorly named... I should have gone with 'Build Critique', or 'Build Improvements?', or even 'Destroy my build like I'm a newb'.
  8. So, nearing 50 on my Claws/SR and want to finalize a build, which I hope to implement prior to the second free respec.

This build is designed to exemp down to level 27 and run the FU>Focus>Eviscerate chain gapless. I'm curious if that chain, with a purple set in all three attacks and the PvP -Res proc in Eviscerate, is as good as the FU>Focus>Slash>(wait .396) chain, assuming it had two purple sets and the Achilles' Heel -res proc in Slash?

Also, If I run FU>Spin>Shockwave, what kind of stacking can I expect FU to achieve?

Finally, would it improve DPS more to have the 6th slot in FU and Focus be the Dam/End I currently have slotted, or to stick a Damage proc into both of them?

The build should be endurance sustainable, and all attacks have +95% Acc vs. +4, +95% DDR.

Any other improvments would be welcome. Thanks in advance!

The first data chunck is using the I19 Mids patch, while the second data chunck is using the I18 Mids with slots for Health and Stamina put into Brawl and Rest. Health gets level 30 Numina's: +Regen/Recovery, Heal, and Heal/End as well as the Regen Tissue, Miracle, and Panacea uniques. Stamina has a full set of level 30 Performance Shifters. For those looking in the I18 Mids, the End gain is 4.11/s and usage is 1.02/s with Tough running. HP is at 1912 with 330% regen(26.33/sec). Defense totals = 48.1% Melee/46.8% Ranged/47% Aoe.

I would do this, unless you exemplar a lot. If you do, which would likely force you to switch to an attack chain that excludes GFS, then it might be more beneficial for you to put it in Incinerate(Highest DPS/DPA attack), as long as you can still get the needed recharge in GFS for when you run the top chain. If you don't plan on exemplaring, Shred is spot on.

If you're speaking purely from a damage standpoint, I'd go with FM. FM's secondary effect is more damage and it has a solid mix of ST and AoE, whereas Elec is very AoE-centric, and DM is very ST-focused.

    build help

The build isn't terrible, but it is lacking an a few areas. Firstly, you're not endurance sustainable. Secondly, if you turn off FA to conserve endurance, you're Accuracy is pretty low. SL isn't slotted well. PB doesn't need a second Recharge IO, and in fact should be slotted with an End Redux since it already recharges fast enough to be perma. PP should have a Performance Shifter proc in it for best end gain. Tough is very underslotted.

Here's a DM/SR I put together for someone who wanted to solo AVs/pylons. It doesn't use any Purples or PVP IOs. I do use some HOs in it, particularly in SL, as 3/3 Nucleolus/Golgi is one of the best methods of slotting SL to function best as both an attack and a heal.

This build is endurance sustainable, can run the top DM attack chain of MG>Smite>SL>Smite gapless, Tough is functionally slotted, all attakcs have +95% Acc vs. +4 without needing FA, +95% DDR, and SD is slotted with no damage enhancement so as to not kill fodder.

If you have the inf for it, you can replace the 5-CI set in Smite with a 5-set of Hecatombs (minus the Dam/Rech) for a boost in DPS.

Even if you don't read any other part of what Werner is saying, these two excerpts can stand alone and explain why you want that last push to 45%.

Werner even explains why this can be confusing:

No offense to you Werner, but you did a lot of typing to try to make your point, and these three quotes really sum up what you are driving at exceptionally well. Perhaps distilling your posts down to this more succinct summation will allow anyone reading this thread to quickly grasp what you're saying, which is absolutely correct.

Tiny enhancement differences can and do have significant effects on real builds. Could I change things around to soft cap again? Of course. But every change is a compromise. Since I "never" exemplar, that level 50 Luck of the Gambler is one less compromise I have to make.)
I figured I'd jump in here to fix the typo in the above, now bolded, before someone discounts his entire spot-on post for a typo. Also, Werner is, quite frankly, the last person I'd ever think of accusing of "intellectual insincerity".

I also have Grant Cover already, as well as Tactics and Maneuvers. I have GC to run situationally for Def Debuffers, and Tactics + Maneuvers uses less end/sec than running Weave + Focused Accuracy.

I'm running Tactics strictly for the GSFC proc to up DPS marginally, as I already have +95% Acc vs. +4 in all attacks without it. The +Perception built into Tactics really negates the need for the Rectified Reticle unique, IMHO. I'm likely going to pick up Assault to run while teaming, as my wife and 2/4 friends I most frequently team with all have it too, and stacking +Dam is always nice.

I was thinking I might switch FS to SOTW, 5 slot Crushing Impact (removing one slot) so I can get some more recharge, switch LBE to ET and then add that extra slot there and 5 slot Posi's Blast for even more recharge. Not sure what I'll be losing though...I'll try it tonight.
FS gives you added AoE capability, whereas SotW is a useless ST attack because it's not needed for the ST attack chain. The Oblit set bonuses are also excellent; better than CI's bonuses. You'd also lose all padding to Melee Def without Oblit's +3.75% Melee Def set bonus, leaving you at only 45.01%.

You could remove the Kismet: Def/End from Lucky and move that slot to Energy Torrent to gain your 5th slot for a set of Posi. This would still leave you above 95% DDR, and you'd lose a bit of AoE Def (down to 45.4%), 30 HP, a bit of regen, and 3% Dam Buff, but gain 6.25% recharge and have ET without compromising your Melee Def buffer. Changes here:

  17. Here's an I19 Kat/SR I made someone, no purples or PvP IOs. It might give you some ideas. The guy I made it for wanted LBE for thematic reasons, but you could replace it with Energy Torrent instead.

    - no Purples or PvP IOs
    - Soft-capped to all positions with extra padding for Melee (48.8% Melee, 45.7% Ranged, 46% AoE)
    - +95% DDR
    - 1842 HP
    - 323% regen (24.81 HP/sec)
    - Sustainable Endurance
    - runs the GD>GC>SD>GC chain gapless
    - 95%+ Accuracy vs. +4 in all attacks (LBE is close with 94.16%)
    - Has LBE for ranged to tag runners/pull
    - +22% Damage buff
    - 17.7% S/L Resistance
    - Has Aid Self
    - Super Speed for a Travel Power

I did a quick look over. As far as Endurance goes, you're ok without Tactics on. I think Sant didn't notice you had it turned on in the build.

My main concern is that your Melee Def is technically not even softcapped. If you hover over the Melee percentile, you're at 44.97%. You're losing some survivability there, and with only 88.98% DDR you'll definately notice a lot more incoming damage if you go up against debuffers. I would shoot for more Melee Def to give yourself some padding.

-edit: You could replace the two LotG in Weave with two Enzyme HOs to get to 46.03%, and if you want a bit more, the LotG: Def/End in Deflection with another Enzyme to get 46.32%. If you did both switches, you'd be losing 1.66 HP/sec regen, which isn't something you'll even notice. (Yes, this is more expensive, but if not this, then the build will require some work to pad Melee Def without losing other key build goals.)

Lastly, SL is underslotted. You're losing both damage and healing with that slotting. If you can afford HOs, I'd go with the 3/3 Golgi/Nucleolus. If not, then I'd move a few things. Replace the Heca: Dam/Rech from MG with a Recharge IO, and replace the Heca: Dam in Smite with the Heca: Dam/Rech. Put the Heca: Dam into SL with a Mako: Dam/End, CI: Dam/End, Touch of the Nictus: Acc/Heal, Touch of the Nictus: Heal, and Touch of the Nictus: Acc/End/Heal/HP/Regen. This will net you 95.26% Acc, 95.9% Dam, 73.78% End, and 88.07% Heal enchancement in SL.

So, with a few minor adjustments, the build will be quite solid.
  20. GD>GC>SD>GC requires 250% total recharge in GD, 136% in SD, and 90% in GC. Achilles' Heel proc in GC, and if you can afford/squeeze it in, the FotG -res proc in GD.

Well, the first thing that jumps out is that your global recharge is kinda low. One of the benefits to getting rid of DA is to shoot for the recharge needed for the top DPS chain of GD>GC>SD>GC, which requires 250% recharge total in GD. This also would allow you to eliminate SotW from the build.

Are the Laser Beam Eyes for concept? They aren't a terribly good attack and I'd suggest dropping it, but if they're for concept then that's a different matter.

I'm going to assume, by the looks of your build, that you're avoiding Purples and PvP IOs, correct?

Here's a build I worked on for quite some time, and am exceptionally happy with - it's a beast. Likely a few things that might be improved given even more perusal, but here it goes:

    - no Purples or PvP IOs
    - Soft-capped to all positions with extra padding for Melee (48.8% Melee, 45.7% Ranged, 46% AoE)
    - +95% DDR
    - 1842 HP
    - 323% regen (24.81 HP/sec)
    - Sustainable Endurance
    - runs the GD>GC>SD>GC chain gapless
    - 95%+ Accuracy vs. +4 in all attacks (LBE is close with 94.16%)
    - Has LBE for ranged to tag runners/pull
    - +22% Damage buff
    - 17.7% S/L Resistance
    - Has Aid Self
    - Super Speed for a Travel Power

Mostly true. Some of the builds are no good for leveling. The builds I have used all exemplar to level 27 and remain soft-capped, though I didn't take a travel power (Ninja Run + Hurdle). Using the power choices in many builds will allow you to do quite well. One of the main differences is that some prefer DC, while others do without one while levelling. I was one of the latter. YMMV.
  23. I'll throw this in. It's actually Iggy's Kat/WP, but I replaced the Kat attacks with the BS versions. Should give you some excellent ideas, even if you don't use it precisely. Again, all credit goes to Iggy for this one.

Ok, I spent some time looking over your build, and also re-vamping mine. I also started a new DM/SD from the ground up...though it did turn out similar to my I18 live build since I was keeping my own build goals in mind.

As far as your build, I don't see a whole lot that you could improve on. The one thing that jumped out at me was to move the three Miracle set from PP into Health, which will net you a bit more regen. Also, you'll get the benefits of the unique and better regen at lower levels, if you exemplar. You'd also want to move around power choices if you plan on exemplaring at all.

My personal nit is that Smite only has 85.9% Acc vs. +4 without SD or Tactics. Not a huge deal, but one my build-OCD focuses on. You could move two slots from CJ into Battle Agility to make a 4-set of LotG to raise the Acc to 89.4% in Smite and your DDR goes up slightly(91.06%), but your Melee Def drops to 45.3%, which may not be enough of a buffer for you. I also admit to liking the purple damage proc and a Clouded Senses damage proc in Smite for better DPS, but I'll address that in my build update.

Finally, I noticed you slotted two Menbranes and one Enzyme in AD. I know you're going to better end management but AD will have a brief period where you're not double-stacked. It may be a wise trade-off, but I've never tried it.

Here's the build I did from the ground up. The big thing that I wish it had was higher HP - it's sitting at 1996 compared to yours at 2031. A bit lower Resistance and 5% less recharge, but still capable of running the top chain. It does have a fair bit of gain for the losses , though. 95%+ Acc vs. +4 in all attacks without SD/Tactics, Smite has purple and Clouded Senses damage procs for higher DPS, better end management since CP recharges faster. Take a look and let me know what you think:

Finally, here's my current live build, but with Assault, Combat Jumping, and Super Speed added. Awesome padding to all positions just by adding CJ. This build is also capable of exemplaring to 27 and remaining soft-capped in this incarnation. Also, pondering removing a slot from Tough to put an Enzyme in AD for better DDR, though I haven't done it here:
