  1. On the subject of Veteran Badges, I've always wondered if you created a new toon, would they be "grandfathered" with the goodies that come with the previous badges?

Me thinks no. For example: I just currently received my 12 Month Vet Badge, which I had to petition by the way as it never hit my account when it should have. I had a few Toons which I started half way or maybe even a quarter of the way within that 12 Month cycle. As you know, you are given certain bennies such as Repec's which is the bigger reward.

With that being said, I tried to respec my Toon which I rolled 3 months ago. According to my vet badges it does show a respec for 12 Months but when I clicked on it and tried to use it, nada, nothing. So am I correct on this that the Toon "must" have been active for the full 12 Months to receive any rewards? I've really been scratching my head on this one...

True, but the "majority" of people do have computers that can handle that type of special effect power. For those that don't then they can just wait it out until the power wears off which isn't very long.

Look, no one is looking to "harass" people with Speed Boost and IR..hehe. I only use it on low level toons and not all the time, only when I am usually flying through low level zones such as Atlas Park or Kings Row and will occasionally catch someone standing at the train depot or fighting some foe, then I'll give them a pinch of SB. I normally don't include IR but if I am standing on the ground I might just give them a little IR lovin"....

When I'm in team mish'es I will always ask first who wants or doesn't want SB or IR as some people's computers, as you mentioned, can't handle the exceptional graphics that these powers bring. I just know when it was done to me, I loved it!
  3. So you're just standing at the train depot or maybe Wentworth's with your low level toon and "boom" someone fly's by and hits you with some Speed Boost and maybe a touch of Inertial Reduction to give you some Super Jumping. You think to yourself, "what just happened?" And then you start to move with such great ease and little effort. You are overjoyed at this new travel power. Be it only lasts for a few minutes, but it is a nice gift from that Controller Toon who just zapped you with it unsuspecting as it was.

This is my first toon with Kinetics. My fire/kin was feeling generous and giving the love of Speed Boost and Inertial Reduction. Okay, we all know I am not the first to do this. Since I've been on as of Jan. 2009, I would always get "hit" with the Speed Boost zap and maybe some Inertial Reduction fun! I've always wondered why they did that to me? Then I started to move and weeee it was too much fun as a low level toon I felt good with these new travel powers.

I've always wanted to know the psychology behind what compels people to "zap" you while you are standing around. Now, I think I know. We are just sharing the love of Speed Boost and Inertial Reduction to make your trip much more enjoyable. I know when someone did that to me, I actually felt good about my next move..hehe. It kind of gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

Yes, lets all enjoy the nice feeling the next time you get zapped by either Speed Boost or Inertial Reduction. Just think of it as Santa Clause coming early this year and sharing the love..hehe..

    Taking a Break

I thought about this for a short time and might end up doing so if I feel I need to take a break from CoX since I've been on as of Jan.09'.

I know that some people will break from the game but will continue to have NCSoft auto deduct them every month the $14.99 so they won't loose there already created toons.

What if someone elected to break from the game but cancel the auto deduct of $14.99 per month? Is there a time frame that NCSoft has set to delete all your toons and account info if you are gone for a certain period of time without paying the monthly subscription fee? I think I would shriek with sheer pain if I lost my toons. We all know how hard and long it takes to build what we have created. Out of my 9 Toons, I got 7 to level 50, one at level 47 and the other at level 36.

I guess if they said "60 days and we delete all!", I would be inclined to keep paying until I get the itch to come back. Now that I think about it, it would be too scary to even entertain this thought but if they said even if you temporarily close your account, we will keep your toons in archive indefinitely until you decide to come back to us with open arms...hehe. I do work with a guy who got back on 4yrs later after playing WoW and his Toon was still there! Amazing as it was.

You can always wait out the timer, even if it's a long one, by doing other missions.
I guess my big thing with "waiting out the timer" and letting it expire, is I don't want to fail any missions for that contact being that I might get less stuff (e.g influence or accolades) in the end. I do know that I can revisit using the Ouroboros "back in time" mission portal. I have done that before when I knew I was going to fail a mish and didn't want that to tarnish my record with that contact.

i guess that is a /unsigned from me as it actually forces you to play some of the game rather then skip through it.
Let me add to this. I agree, the majority of timed mish'es are easy and you normally need to just find glowies and blinkies. Sometimes it's a defeat all though and if you're pressed for time in a defeat all mish and need to log, you're screwed. Sometimes I get on before work in the morning and I might accidentally get into a timed mish. Oppps, if I am in a defeat all mish, and only have 15 min to get to work, I'm screwed.

I know, I know, I should probably have never accepted the mish in the first place. Maybe if they really clarify and I mean "really" clarify in BIG BOLD LETTERS that it is a timed mish/defeat all so you know if you need to get to work, to allow so much time to do it. Sometimes I have to read and then re-read the contacts message to make sure I don't get locked up in a timed mish when i don't have the time to do it. .
  7. I am sure this have been brought up many a times in the past, heck, I may have even brought it up before and forgot about it.

I don't normally like to do it but occasionally I will find myself having a hard time getting by a particular mish, even after lowering the difficulty to the lowest number. Rather than just "outlevel" it, which I have done before and can also be an option, I normally choose to just drop it and consider it a complete mission. I think you can only do this once every 3 days for each toon as it will give you a message saying what time you can drop another mission.

Now occasionally, I will get into a sticky situation with a timed mission. I would have bit off more than I can chew. Once in the mission, I cannot log out to cancel it, I cannot drop the mission as the timer will keep going regardless. I am pretty much forced to "fail" it (letting the time expire) because there is no other option. For those who say I need to read what the contact is saying first before I accept the mission as most times they will say "you only have 90 minutes or you only have 60 minutes to complete this task", I always do and I know it is timed ahead of time.

If someone can give me a good logical reason why timed missions are not "droppable" please let me know as I haven't a clue why?
  8. Well, I got on the other night and pulled out my level 50 Blaster (my favorite toon to play). One of my mish/contacts which I believe was General Hammond in Firebase Zulu, seems to have missions that are "looping" meaning the story arc or the missions never end and will constantly repeat. I have also noticed this with the contact in Cimerora with Marcus Valerius. I've got him as a contact with "looping" missions with no story end. Now, last night, I started up with Borea in the RWZ. She's giving me missions that are pretty much the same missions. I haven't filled her bar out completely so I am not sure if there is an "end" to her content of missions? I also have another one in Warburg, Warzone Agent Goddard. I believe this is the one that has the rocket you can elect to launch. The majority of those missions are repeating missions.

And lets not forget Meg Mason from the Hollows. Lord knows I've been on a few of her "forever" "looping" missions and just got sick of them because I didn't have full travel powers yet and getting around in the Hollows can be tricky in the early stages.

So, with all that being said, the first thing I want to know is what is the sole purpose for having contacts that give "looping" repeating missions with no end to their story? As we all know, the majority of contacts will give an "end" to their story arcs or their missions. At the end you normally get a Merit Award and maybe some extra influence. Were these contacts added to give people the opportunity to earn more drops and influence when their other contacts have dried up? If someone can shed some light on this that would be great.

I do take in consideration "who" is giving that post. I've only been a member since Jan 09'. When I first started out, the majority of my questions were the "how to" or "where to" type questions. If someone gets back to me with an answer and their post looks like a ransom note e.g. misspelled words, bad grammar, they are not going to be as credible in my eyes versus someone who can put two words together. You yourself have helped me many a times. That's the main reason I signed on to these threads, to seek credible answers to help me enjoy a better CoX.

Just doing that, I've racked up an average of 27.34 posts per day since registering (3 years ago next Friday)

I should note that I am, in fact, sitting in front of my computer for most of the day. I've even got my laptop with me in my classes, and most of my classes are liesurely enough to allow me time to make a post here or there.
You have to admit, when one looks at who replies to their posts, which I always do, if someone has over 20,000 posts like yourself, I pretty much know I'll get an answer to what I'm looking for. Not to say that someone who just signed on as a Recruit couldn't give me the right answer but I do think it does hold some weight because I think you are more "exposed" to the going on's within these forums.

With that being said, I was always curious on these numbers. My thought was the higher the number the more prestige and credibility that person brings to the table in getting the, not necessarily right, but better answer to what I'm looking for.

You'd be surprised how many posts you can rack up just revising or correcting calculations.
That's right. 69 months. I was starting it from the beginning of 2004. I guess I can see how they add up. Heck, I'm replying now to this post...hehe.

Okay. Since I've been a member as of Jan. 2009, I've posted over 300 plus times so I am in the "Rookie" category. Unfortunately, I work for a living so I really don't spend too much time in this forum unless I have a question or idea for the game. Occasionally I will get on during lunch at work, which is what I'm doing now .

The thing that always makes me go "Hmmmmm" is the folks that are in the 15,000 to 20,000 posts category. Think about it. How many times a day would someone have to be on to achieve such an event? I am not really sure when the actual forums started if it was from the inception of CoH 2004'ish or later? If it was later then that's "really" amazing.

I know that if someone really gets involved in a post by commenting back and forth, that the total number of that persons posts will grow exponentially. So, unless someone doesn't do this for a living or just sits in front of their computer all day, how is it possible? Look at it like this: Lets say the forums did start-up in 2004. We'll say five years or 365 days x 5yrs. = 1825 days. If someone has over 20,000 posts, that's roughly an average of 11 posts per day! 11 x 365 = 4015 per yr. 4015 x 5 yrs. = 20,075 posts! I myself, probably average 15 to, maybe if I'm lucky, 30 posts a month. Even if I quit my job and did this full time, I don't think I could do it as I would probably run out of things to say...lol.

Now I am only talking about non-CoX employees. This doesn't count for someone works for NCSoft as they do this for a living, keeping us informed. This is for the regular person who plays the game. I will give the benefit of the doubt to the few who do have the luxury of not having to work for a living and are on these forums constantly to help others as they feel it is their civic duty and it makes them sleep better at night . So, with that being said, do you guys think there are those who "deliberately" try to get as many posts to reach the next ranking? So, they may try and respond to as many posts as possible? Are there really people out there like this? If so, then I really need to say "Hmmmmmmmm".
  13. Awhile ago, I posted a forum about the ranking status on these forums. Someone sent me a nice break down of what you get in ranking per the number of post you've submitted. For the life of me I cannot find it in the FAQ section anywhere or my prior posts as it may have been removed since it was so long ago.

Can anyone give me the breakdown again of the ranking status. For example 1-100 posts = Recruit, 101-500 posts = Rookie, etc, etc.: Thanks
  14. So, I officially reached my 12 Month Vet Badge. In checking on paragonwiki, it states you get some pre-ordered sprints: Prestige Power Dash, Prestige Power Quick, Prestige Power Rush and Prestige Power Surge. In reading the description for those, they all seem to be pretty much the same but maybe with a few different effects.

In addition to that you get 1 Free Character Slot Per account, Temporary Power: CHOICE: Permanent Ghost Slaying Axe or Permanent Sands of Mu, Base Item: Weapon Displays: Arachnos Guns, Arachnos Mace (Floor), Arachnos Mace (Wall), Circle of Thorns Weapons, Gun Rack 1, Gun Rack 2, Jack-in-Irons' Club, Longbow Weapon, Mallet, Nemesis Rifle, Rikti Rifle, and Sci-Fi Rifle.

With all that being said, does anyone have any opinions on what's best to take as far as the Ghost Slaying Axe or Permanent Sands of Mu and which Prestige Run do you think gives the best special effects while moving? Not sure if I did pick one of those temp powers such as the Ghost Slaying Axe or Permanent Sands of Mu if I would never have the opportunity to choose the other one being that I am not sure if it is locked in until I reach another Vet Reward?
  15. Quick question on Day Badges. I Currently have my 9 Toons parked in locations everytime I sign out to help towards the Day Badges. My main question is every time I log in to view the status of each Toon, it gives a percentage of how much more they need to earn that Day Badge. The bar will also move as normal to show the progress and it usually shows a target number of 501 or something that's over 500.

So, with that being said, what is the exact time frame that one needs to "sit" in each location in order to earn a Day Job Badge? On what I read, it appears that it is a consistent 21 Days of either sitting in that spot without utilizing that Toon or if you do use that Toon, signing out in that same spot for a consistent 21 Day time frame. Can anyone help clarify this for me? Thanks.

Hmmm, so when I did view the inventory at Wentworth's, it did show some being sold as I believe as recipes. One Wing Boot Costume Piece was selling for 100K of influence. I guess the thing I need to try and figure out is "how" to get my costume piece into that recipe area. Normally in the past, I would just craft it then drop it in the Wentworth's tray, but if it's a recipe, how is that done as there is nothing to drop?
  17. I was at the Wentworth's Market and put together an invention enhancement for "Winged Boots". My intentions were to sell this in the market after I crafted it. Well, after I crafted it, the message appeared and said "new costume piece available". I didn't have it available to sell as it gave it to me instead for my personal use.

So what I need to know is if you don't own that costume piece, does it always default to you first for your personal costume piece? Second, if you already "have" that costume piece, does it then go to your tray to sell in the market? This is the first time I've tried to sell Costume Pieces so not sure what kind of strategy you need to do so?

Thanks in advance to all who reply.
  18. So this past Saturday, I headed to Independence Port and decided to do a little walking. I headed to the far North Side of IP and turned my walk on auto. My goal was to head to the South side of IP. Well after hitting the shower, I headed to the grocery store to pick-up some Eggs, Bread and Milk. Came back home after stopping off at the local post office and checked my toons progress. 1/4 of the way there.

About that time a friend of mind called and said they wanted to check out that new mall that just opened up. So, I got in my car and drove over to my friends house. We then took my car to the mall. After that, we decided to grab a bite to eat at this new Italian Restaurant that just opened up. Great food, I think I got the Fettichini Alfredo (not spelled right) with spicy chicken. Mmmm mmm good. Anyways after that, I drove my friend home. I then headed back home myself, checked on my toon. 1/2 the way there now.

Oh well, I thought, might as well do some laundry and watch some movies. After finishing the whole Matrix Series, I then proceeded to jump in my car and head over the local car wash. While there, I grabbed myself a bottle water with some peanuts. As I headed home, I ended up getting a flat tire. After about an hour of fixing that. I drove back home to check on my toon. 3/4 of the way to the South side of Independence Port.

So, I decided to cook some steaks on the grill as it was getting close to supper time. I realized that I was out of steaks so I then proceed to head back to the grocery store to pick some up. While at the store, I just happened to bump into an old friend from school. They told me they were out of work and no one was hiring. I felt bad and offered them to come over for some steaks. As my friend and I were leaving the store, I realized that I forgot to pick-up my dry cleaning across town. I barely made it through their door before they closed. As I headed back home, there was minor fender bender that backed-up traffic. After about 45 minutes of that, I finally arrived at home with my friend to check on my toon. 99% to the end South side of Independence Port. I called my friend over and then "boom". I hit the end of IP and then this wonderful badge appeared with this caption:

"Congratulations on achieving The Marathon Walking Badge. It takes a special person to achieve such a heroic accomplishment. Someone who probably has waaay too much time on their hands. We almost feel sorry for you so we felt it was our duty to award you this prestigious badge. In other words, we would ask you to get a life and pull yourself away from that damn computer screen. Maybe next time you'll just TP across Independence Port and save us the hassle".

And yes, here it is in all it's glory. Enjoy!

    Marathon Walker:
Description: Some people have it in them, some dont. You have showed that you have the patience and endurance to walk long distances in Paragon City(The Rogue Isles).

Alternate names like "Walkman" or "Walkwoman" would be amusing as well lol.... I figure it could be easy to add it. The game uses a coordinate system, I was thinking maybe when the power is activated code could track the location and update every second and calculate the distance traveled by the player. Maybe the badge could be attained after about 5 miles? thats the idea.... now..... CONVERSE!
If there ever will be a badge like this someday, this is how I envision this badge to look like:

You got the walking shoes and wings even though you are moving at a Snails pace..hehe.

Being the Gazelle that I am, I love the damage part of it. That's why my favorite Toon was my first toon, a full out Engry/Engry Blaster. I currently got her fully slotted with the best invention set enhancements influence can buy. She's happy, she's deadly, and she's very agile. I once went mano-a-mano with Kronos and took the big guy out. It was scary but fun!

Anytime I can use my wondrous Nova, I get that superhero tingle rush that we all get when you know you are kickin' some butt! Yes, I'd rather have more damage versus more defense so thus, I'm the Gazelle running from the lion..hehe. Just hope I can get my Sniper Blast off in time...

  22. Ahem.....I know, I know there are you die hard Tankers out there that love your Tanks. This post has nothing against Tanks or Tanking in general. It is my experience of Tanking for a second time as I felt I would give it one more shot.

As you all know, everyone has a certain play style in this game. Some people prefer the finesse type play style, while others prefer the more "knock-down and drag-them-out" style of play. About 6 months ago or so, I tried my hand at a Tanker. It was so long ago, I forgot what build it was but I think it was a Dark/Dark Tanker. Anyways, after level 20, I ended up deleting that Tank and converting it over to a Controller which I eventually got to level 50.

About three days ago, I started another Tank up, a Invul/Super Strength Tank. Got him to level 15 then deleted him. I know there are those of you who are saying "give it a chance and see what happens in the higher levels" or "I never gave my Tanks a chance to blossom". The reality is, I play more like a Gazelle rather than a Gorilla. You know, a Gazelle, the small slender antelope that typically has curved horns and a yellowish brown coat with white underparts, found in open country in Africa. They are very agile and quick on their feet, but lack defense against attacks a.k.a. my Blasters...hehe.

Then you have the Gorilla, the big lumbering brute of a beast with major defenses and if you get it angry, will tear your arms off!

With that being said. I came to the realization that I play more like a Gazelle, not a Gorilla. I like to "finesse" my foes and then take them out. Although, I do have my Warshade Rino/Lobster that I take out on occasion and do get a nice rush from his pounding attacks. And with his thick skin, can take a large amount of melee damage and still keep standing. I also have my Stalker which I love as I can sneak up on foes to do some serious damage. But to be a Tanker, jumping in the middle of a group of foes and just "key mashing" until they die, I just didn't get all giddy about it. And for you true Tankers out there, I applaud the Gorilla side of you. Taking that charge and getting hammered all the time for the team takes a certain type of player.

So, I bid you Tanks a farewell as I continue my "Gazelle" quest in CoX. Who knows, maybe someday I will get the itch again to be a "Gorilla",..nah,...maybe not. Latrz!
  23. A couple of months ago I was in Atlas Park and was board so I decided to open up my map and seen this place called Recluse's Victory. I thought "what the heck" and went inside. As I was flying around, I had no idea it was a PvP zone. I went over to check out these large cannons on the ground. The place would have been completely deserted if I didn't see another toon in there. I haven't been back since as I don't do PvP but it was kind of cool to see.
  24. I've always wondered this in the early stages of my Toon. As I just got my new Tanker to level 10 while in The Hollows.

How many of you deliberately axe (kill) yourselves if you are under level 10 and are waaaay across the Hollows and don't want to trot back to David Wincott or to train to level-up because you don't have sufficient travel powers yet? I ended up jumping in the canyon and either have the Igneous beat me silly or some high level Trolls...lol. This would also hold true in either Atlas Park or another zone that I am either way too far from my contact or my Trainer to level-up if I am under level 10.

I emphasized level 10 because that is when you can start accruing debt if you die. I have found this is the case with all my Toon's in the early stages. The heck with spending 15 minutes running back to your contacts, just nix yourself and you're good to go..hehe. Anyone else use this "die by travel" method in the early stages? Not sure if there is a badge for how many times you die "before" level 10 as I know there is some kind of debt badge "after" level 10.

    Fire Kins

While we are on the subject of Fire/Kins, I took my level 44 Fire/Kin Controller out a few days ago in a team mish. There was another Controller who I believe was Ice/Ice. He sent me a direct tell saying not to stack fire cages on the foes if he puts an ice patch down. I didn't reply as a I got to thinking what was he saying as it didn't make sense to me. I think his logic was if he put an ice patch down, then the foes couldn't slip and slide away if I "locked" them in place standing up with my fire cages and fire holds. Then I got to thinking, while they are locked in place, they are taking damage and if they came out of the fire hold, then the ice patch would still cause them to slip. So, what was the big deal here?

With that being said, my level 44 fire/kin Controller is my first fir/kin as I wanted to roll one because of all the hype about them. So far, going against foes +0, +1 can be a breeze but then as others have said in this post, when you get to higher level foes +3, +4 that have more exotic powers, then it can be a little bit of a challenge. Currently, I have my diff settings at +2 with no AV's. Maybe when I become a more skilled at it, I would raise the diff level.

As for team play, I held off on Super Boost until I knew how much it helps my teammates for those that want it. I really don't have a problem handing out SB every 2 min or so. If it keeps everyone alive longer, then it's a good thing. Though the last thing I want to be is a SB Controller. So, sometimes in the heat of battle, I will ignore SB unless someone asks for it such as a Tanker or Scrapper. That was my main reason for not being a Defender as I did try my hand at one once and didn't care to try and keep everyone alive all the time. I got wore out...lol. If I let someone die because I didn't heal them fast enough, then I didn't do my job.
