Feeling Generous with Speed Boost and Inertial Reduction

So you're just standing at the train depot or maybe Wentworth's with your low level toon and "boom" someone fly's by and hits you with some Speed Boost and maybe a touch of Inertial Reduction to give you some Super Jumping. You think to yourself, "what just happened?" And then you start to move with such great ease and little effort. You are overjoyed at this new travel power. Be it only lasts for a few minutes, but it is a nice gift from that Controller Toon who just zapped you with it unsuspecting as it was.

This is my first toon with Kinetics. My fire/kin was feeling generous and giving the love of Speed Boost and Inertial Reduction. Okay, we all know I am not the first to do this. Since I've been on as of Jan. 2009, I would always get "hit" with the Speed Boost zap and maybe some Inertial Reduction fun! I've always wondered why they did that to me? Then I started to move and weeee it was too much fun as a low level toon I felt good with these new travel powers.

I've always wanted to know the psychology behind what compels people to "zap" you while you are standing around. Now, I think I know. We are just sharing the love of Speed Boost and Inertial Reduction to make your trip much more enjoyable. I know when someone did that to me, I actually felt good about my next move..hehe. It kind of gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

Yes, lets all enjoy the nice feeling the next time you get zapped by either Speed Boost or Inertial Reduction. Just think of it as Santa Clause coming early this year and sharing the love..hehe..

just be careful with who you give it too, some people could report it as harassment and some people have computers that cant handle the speed increase of speed boost (they could lag horribly or just instantly crash)

I love getting SB and IR during a mission. I don't mind the occasional "wall-plant".

And it's helpful to get a random one when I'm traveling between missions, especially on a lowbie.

But when I'm just standing around, especially in WW's or AE? It's pointless and a waste of time. It's not like you get any XP for random buffing, and it certainly isn't going to help me access the market any faster. It's just annoying.

And, as mentioned, it actually causes some people problems.

Yeah, it's better to slap it on people coming off trains, or people you just randomly see in the street.

I also enjoy buffing the random roaming Longbow and PPD, even if it does make them freak out a little.

True, but the "majority" of people do have computers that can handle that type of special effect power. For those that don't then they can just wait it out until the power wears off which isn't very long.

Look, no one is looking to "harass" people with Speed Boost and IR..hehe. I only use it on low level toons and not all the time, only when I am usually flying through low level zones such as Atlas Park or Kings Row and will occasionally catch someone standing at the train depot or fighting some foe, then I'll give them a pinch of SB. I normally don't include IR but if I am standing on the ground I might just give them a little IR lovin"....

When I'm in team mish'es I will always ask first who wants or doesn't want SB or IR as some people's computers, as you mentioned, can't handle the exceptional graphics that these powers bring. I just know when it was done to me, I loved it!

A waste of whose time? Not yours . . . it takes no time to "receive" Speed Boost or IR. Annoying? The only effect is a sound and your character jerks slightly. Pointless? Yeah, but so what? If someone wants to waste his or her time giving SB to folks standing around doing nothing, why should you care?

I can understand those few people getting a little frustrated who have old computers which can't handle the graphics caused by SB. A few other people just don't want to be "messed with." But those folks are few and far between. Personally, I love it when I get a "drive-by buffing." I think most people do, as well.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

I wish WW had some kind of limited power suppression. I don't need to be in Shadow Fall or Steamy Mist at WW. And I really don't need Thermal shields...

SB doesn't really bother me though

I'm sorry to come across as a rick but if a person enters a Massive Multiplayer Online game with a less than adequate computer...it's not the responsibility of the gaming community to be sensitive to that.

I agree in an ideal setting everyone should know who's running the game on underpowered computers & deal with them appropriately but unless the devs implement a feature which would mark one's character with a method of identification based on computer specs....complaining about random kin buffs is a non issue.

Seriously people, a new computer either bought or assembled will probably run you in the vicinity of $1000. This is manageable for those people who make as little as $20K a year. Yes it is. What this means to a person making so little money is they'll have to eliminate going out to movies, or dinner, or buying dvds, etc.

Unless someone in this world is going to give you money for nothing, you have to make choices. I did the same thing over a year ago. I wanted a new pc so I bought one online. As a result I only spent money on life essentials. Real life essentials. Food, rent.

I will say this though, I absolutely cannot stand the look of ice shields. In my illogical state of mind, I'd gladly sacrifice the pretty numbers ice shields bestow upon me instead of having to look at those things. I can simply switch to 1st person when someone hits me with ice shields. Yes. I can definately do that.

I agree wholeheartedly. The days of the 56k Dial-up should be a thing of the past unless you live in a cave somewhere where you cannot get internet connections. When I bought my Gateway Computer, the first thing I did was upgrade the RAM and the Graphics Card because I knew what type of gaming I was going to do and what was required. I wanted to get the "most" out of this game. If someone is going to play this game, they need to understand that in order to "enjoy" this game in all its glory with the pretty graphics and stuff, they need to have at least the minimum requirements to make it work. The same people who complain about not wanting SB because it's too taxing on their computers graphics need to realize that the days of old technology are gone.

As the former CEO Lee Iacoca of the old Crysler Corporation once said: "You either lead, follow or get out of the way". So, let us lead everyone into the 21st Century the right way by keeping up with the Joneses and make it so. Lets boldly go where no one has gone before. "Mr. Sulu Engage!".

I've gotten some rather rude tells from people when I've done that in the past. There are some players that absolutely hate any type of FX effect obscuring their costume, even if it's something minimal (almost nonexistent) like what you see in speed boost. There's also the player who can't control their character with the added speed. Now before you bash these players, understand that there are people with disabilities who play this game, and while you have speed boost on them, the game is unplayable for them. I know of at least two players for which speed boost is too much for them to handle due to nerve / hand injuries.

I just don't buff strangers anymore. It's not worth it. And I sympathize with players who have disabilities.
