Quote:That's not out of range for the history of that particular piece of salvage. Also 100k is pretty much nothing for any piece of salvage. But I was curious! So I went to the Wentworths in Talos to check it out. Sure enough, Alchemical Silver was going for something like between 50k and 100k apiece!
I don't think you'll find anyone in the Market forums which would consider that price particularly expensive. It is a great price for lowbies who can sell 3 or 4 of those and fund DOs / low level generic IOs. But I don't think that price point would cause anyone to balk at buying them.
Crazy range is when you start seeing Boresights sell for 5M apiece. -
Quote:Strange. I've never run into BV earlier. She shows up and disappears (without attacking) and then the waves of resistance shows up.Your thinking of the wrong mission, that's the end of the arc, he's talking about the second mish, where she goes invis/invince and attacks you while waves of resistance are attacking you too.
I'm not disbelieving you, but my experience so far in running that arc has been different.
I have another character in range, and I'll try that mission. -
Quote:This is very odd. I'd bug it. You can fight and defeat her. I've beaten her twice.Ok, I've faceplanted twice now. Are you supposed to be able to fight BV or not? I can't target her at all and she just nails me with her attacks. Are you supposed to ignore and run away from her in this mish?
Thanks.
What happens is that I get a Morality choice and I choose to take down BV. Then after you beat on her, she uses a smoke bomb to disappear and then shows up again. After you beat her after her third appearance, you'll defeat her. What's odd is that the appearances is scripted, and if you manage to defeat her utterly at the first attempt (I used build up / aim / 3 enrages to essentially 3 shot her on my blaster), she'll come back with a little recovered health each time.
I'm about to get this mission again and I'll see how it goes. -
Quote:It's not enough to kill you, and you can outdamage them from range very easily. I have an energy/energy hover blaster that is level 14 and she easily solo cleared the Luke Larson arc which is full of Destroyers. The arc includes the annoying (difficult) mission where you're breaking up a meeting between the Destroyers and the Resistance as a Blast Master ambush happens about every minute while on the map.To be fair, Destroyer bosses will pelt you with anti-aircraft boulders every few seconds.
I haven't faced off against the tougher EBs on this character yet, but nothing I've seen leads me to believe that this strategy isn't anything but effective. I've also put through 5 other characters through the Praetorian content so I have a good idea of what I'm up against. -
Just grab hover and kill them from range or while you're hovering over their heads. It's surprisingly effective in Praetoria. Only the PPD has -fly.

Quote:Don't take this wrong, but there's no AT that's absolutely required for this game and while a tank can be useful, so can a lot of other ATs. There are plenty of groups where a tank is just a superfluous addition - there's enough buffs/debuffs that a tank isn't really needed that much except as a damage dealer or for spot aggro management.Hi Virtue,
I am new to your server, and for the most part people have been very nice, and pleasent to team with. I came to your server becuase you have a high population, and it's easier to find a group.
But...There is a problem I am having. I keep getting into groups that just don't understand the tank's role, nor do they understand their roll.
You have people who choose to play support toons, who think that their support powers are not important. They take all their attacks, and only their first power they have to get from their secondary. So I taunt, then die...
Then you have the DPS who go ahead of me or to another group, then realise they are taking a lot of damage, so they run to me, and I get Agro capped then people start dying.
Which then, I feel like a bad tank.
I chose to make a tank, becuase on my blaster I noticed I would get into a group, and there wouldn't be a tank. Then group would wipe, wipe, and wipe more.
I do like playing a tank, seriously I do, but when the group isn't meeting me in the middle it fustrates me.
So, I am just looking for a SG that wants a tank that knows what he's doing, and meet me in the middle by doing your job also.
I am sorry if I am comming of self rightous, but I just remember the days when Tanks were seeked after and the group did their job and let the tank do his/her job.
So if you're looking for a group that will just sit there while you take the alpha, expecting the other players to just sit back, I think you'll find that a lot of veterans have evolved past the tank and spank model of play quite some time ago.
Now if you're looking for experienced players period that's a different issue altogether and I'd recommend that you look into some of the server's global channels. -
I've always done it through double click and only found out about a year or so ago that you can do it the other way. Don't feel too bad.
-
It never fails to surprise me that people continually keep looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Katana/Regen or Katana/WP scrapper for heroes
Any MM combinations for villains
For Praetorians - same as above -
Did they changed the mobs for an existing mission you haven't finished? I still have an untimed wolf mission from way back in the day, and a friend in game still has a mission with the old Anti-Matter. I'm assuming that if you have an existing mission, the mobs haven't changed...could be wrong though.

Quote:Pretty much agree. And as you can tell by my reg date that I've been here awhile. The drama in this game compared to other games is almost nonexistent.Virtue and Drama (?)
I just decided to weigh in my personal opinion on the apparent level of drama on this server.. .
There isnt any.
At least not a lot of drama that I can see or feel. Seriously, this is perhaps one of the friendliest gaming experiences I have ever had. Perhaps it is because I am still a new player here. Perhaps it is because I am usually up front about my newness to the game with other people. Perhaps it is just that the player community here is significantly more respectful then the communities I have encountered in the past.
My previous game was World of Warcraft, and I played it heavily for three years. Now if you want to talk about drama, and griefing, and general overall harassment, then we can discuss my experiences in that game. I can regale you with tales of openly hateful racism, homophobic rage filled rants, and individuals specifically targeted by a large number of players for all sorts of nasty bullying. And all of that happening in the server wide trade chat channels. (Imagine someone running around for hours in Broadcast spewing hateful and racially insulting filth for hours )
City of Heroes is a much friendlier environment that is entirely the result of how the players conduct themselves.
Perhaps the moderators in this game actually police their servers, or perhaps the game mechanics themselves help as this game is not anywhere near as competitive and openly hostile as WoW. Regardless, it is the players that form the community, and it is the players in CoH that are (in my opinion) exceptional!
Therefore, I would like to direct the rest of this post to the Player Base on Virtue:
Thanks for letting me join your game, and helping my character to learn and grow in a system that many of you have mastered for years now. Thank you for your patience and your generosity! (I have twice been given large amounts of INF from a random high level character.. and this sort of generosity never happened in WoW). Thank you for the regular community-run Costume Contests (that I never win, but absolutely enjoy attending to see all the creative and cool costume ideas).
Thank you for giving my virtual characters a home after having to leave my previous game. And thank you for making them so warmly welcomed.
Excelsior!
I think partially it's due to the fact that when people play a superhero game, it tends to bring out the best nature out of some people. Call it role play, call it immersion, but hero players have been known to act heroically. -
Quote:At this point, he's just trolling, butt hurt and confused at why his poorly presented review could be so badly received. Right now, though he's acting upset, he's actually happy since this is probably the absolute most attention he'll ever receive.Try replying to my previous post, I thought it was quite reasonable and I even tried to be a tad constructive.
The more I think of it, this "review," and I really can't call that at this point because it's really more of rant about how CoH isn't WoW, is just a troll by an attention seeking wannabe.
I just laugh at his attempts to "debate" people who play this game, sometimes every day, and his attempts at convincing them that his shallow perspective of the game is the "correct" one and ours is obviously wrong since supposedly we're too far in the forest to notice the trees. Supposedly, that makes him more "objective" than we are no matter how much we point out his sloppy research, his obvious bias and general inability to grasp simple things like enhancements (30 mins to buy SOs lol).
About a week from now, we'll still be enjoying the game he thinks is fatally flawed, and he'll still be in a basement in his sweat pants, wondering why no one from this community ever pays attention to this videos. I, for one, hope he discovers deodorant and a shower. While no one can save the bridges he's burning, at least he'll be clean for his next rant. -
I think you pretty much nailed it. Almost an exact mirror of my own review of the video earlier in the thread. Your critique though had much more detail.

Quote:Irony is you.You should calm down and stop going off the deep end over trivial nonsense. It makes it harder to take you seriously.
I find it funny that when people have criticisms about your review (it's style, tone, content, etc.), you gripe about how you're misunderstood or misconstrued.
I think the community so far has spoken and gave your review a thumbs down for a variety of reasons. Please continue to launch personal attacks on your critics. All it does is paint a picture of someone who can give but can't take.
There's a positive that can be gained from this. You can actually try to objectively look at the feedback you've been given (which is valuable) and try to improve with this. Or you can sulk and believe your rather unprofessional presentation style will eventually win us over (pro tip: it won't).
Reviewing / writing is a two way street. If you can't stand the heat in the kitchen, get out. -
Quote:Feedback on your review:Hello. I have a web show called The RPG Fanatic where I review computer rpg games. I decided to make CoH my first MMORPG review and while I had played the game before (in Dec 2004), I recently re-visited it, playing from level 1 to 50. After doing this I concluded that CoH has some innovative game design elements I wish other MMORPG developers would incorporate into their designs, but CoH also lacks a lot of content I expect an MMORPG to have today. I dissect the game in the review.
I will be reviewing the Mission Architect system in an upcoming review, and thought some of you might like to see my review for the game overall and add your comments. I might include and/or respond to some of those comments in my next review for the MA system.

1. Tone is very unprofessional. I don't know where you've been educated but in every *professional* outlet I've ever done presentations, I have never used swear words. It significantly diminishes and takes away from your presentation and has me immediately questioning both your credibility and etiquette. Learn to present in a professional manner.
2. Your review was poorly researched and shows bias. I won't go into all the details you got wrong, but let me say that there were several laugh out loud moments where you made assertions that were either outright false, exaggerated or poorly researched. There's no way it will take you 30 minutes to swap out enhancements. For someone like you who claims to have an extensive background in playing MMOs, the SO system of enhancements is one of the easiest, simplest enhancements systems out there. You have either exaggerated, didn't get your facts straight or you just don't know how to play.
Believe it or not, I'm being kind here. If your review was posted in a more professional medium like a game review magazine, the criticism of your exaggerations and falsehoods would be far more scathing.
3. You do not have a background in game design, software development or journalism, and it shows. Game reviewers, the good ones at least, know where to draw a line and criticize the game as "unfun", "difficult" or "poorly implemented". However, they do so from the perspective of a player. If you do not have a specific background in game design, you should not make game design criticisms, largely because you are ignorant about the underlying balance issues and mechanics. It would be as if you were someone who criticized the engineeering of a car without having the foggiest idea of the engine or transmission works. Sure, it is fine to review how the car looks or how it runs, but there is a line.
4. When reviewing a game, you need to review it in the current state not how it was back in the day. There were many updates to this game that you apparently missed that could have been rectified simply by reading the patch notes or consulting one of those online websites devoted to CoH that you say don't exist (http://www.paragonwiki.com).

Quote:^ Pretty much this.Or you could just use your 2 hero merits to buy a recipe thats selling for a lot of money [like a +recharge one perhaps?] and then buy your respec recipe and have change?
OR you could do that a few times have enough to buy a couple of purples buy the time it takes to get to the required amount to buy a purple/pvp IO.
OR you could just do the tips as a casual with the knowledge that you will get something that you want/need with the bonus of all that extra money you would have picked up along the way without the "random factor" put in.
Purples/PvP have to high because they are supposed to be super rare. Though respec recipes for 10 is 10x too high
There are some players who eschew farming or marketeering entirely and this is the method for them. There are faster ways to get what you want, but if there's some people that like to do it this way then I have no bones to pick on the system as implemented. -
Quote:If they allow us to slot them, then absolutely no worries. If not then...
Also, as I said in the thread, I think some pools will become extremely popular:
Concealment - 1 slot stealth, 1 slot invis, 1 slot phase shift = 3 slots for LoTGs
Leadership - 1 slot assault (who wouldn't want more damage), 1 slot tactics (slot it with just the +perception and leave it off), manuevers / vengeance - 2 slots for LoTGs
Flight - grabbing 1 slot air superiority for just the ability to flip bosses, 1 slot hover is pretty darn good, 1 slot flight for some vertical
Lots of possibilities... -
As long as we can slot these new inherents, I'll be extremely happy with this change. I wager that the stealth pool will suddenly become much more popular since it's 3 slots for LoTG +recharge with 1 slot apiece.

Quote:Head over to the Market forum. Read the advice there.Just woke up. Sorry for not responding last night. Thank you thank you for your responses. I'm going to respec and give it a shot. I'm going to definitely imitate "call me awesome's" build. I'll try anything because I'm frustrated at this point. I really thought that my end problems will be over at lvl 40. I hope that when I get that last body mastery power, things will improve. That build looks great. I hope its not too expensive
Also, making influence is actually pretty easy. The first link in my signature goes over the general process, the second link puts the first in practice. I've helped absolute newbies get from almost nothing to hundreds of millions. I realize that I come off sounding like a late night informercial, but you don't have to be poor. -
Quote:Stop being a putz. 38% on a character which has a resistance based armor is by no means shabby. And 50% global recharge isn't low.TBH it fails. That def is not high enough to counter the games hit RNG. Why are you going for def on a res set when you have so little res? 50% rechage lolwut that is ubber low. That toon will be about as useful as this cam.
I haven't looked at the OP's build, but I am curious as to what you consider a "good" build. Typically, having 30% defense on a resistance build is considered pretty good, as your resistance absorbs anything that gets past the defense. Further, it's also difficult to build for both defense and recharge since the sets that give both (with one or two exceptions) tend to be mutually exclusive. -
Quote:I'm actually quite surprised by this. For a new player it would mean they would have to level an alt to 20 in either Paragon/Rogue Isles just to unlock an epic AT even if they have a 20.Confirmed by a GM that praetorians levelling to 20 do not unlock epic archetypes for whichever side they happen to choose.
I think once the character crosses over the rift and is firmly either hero or villain, epic ATs should unlock. Hopefully, they'll change their decision on this one. -
See if you have any other contacts open. Go talk to them. Or call up Marchand, and see if any Loyalist opportunities are available.
-
If you're soft capped, Shadow Meld won't help you at all in PvE. PvP is probably different because of diminishing returns and the way defense works there.
-
Quote:Pretty good build actually. I made some adjustments. Lowered end cost/sec, increased. Reslotted tough and quills. Added a little bit more recovery. Added a slot to build up.This is the build my main will be respecing into as soon as I've turned villian. As you can see the fitness pool is not included and I'm quite comforatable with the end usage/recovery and survivability. While the fitness pool is a wonderful thing it is NOT a requirement for regen.
