DM/SD build, need enlightment

After 5 level 25 scrappers I finally decide to take the /Shield road.

I must admit I hesitated a lot with FM/, KM/ or DM/ but I all in all I hope Drain Life and Dark Consumption will make up for le loss of heal and endo /SD comes with. And that /SD will cover the lack of AoE options from DM.

I hope I havent done huge mistakes on my build, I plan on probably skip Dark Consumption and take Grand Cover at some point when end is not a big problem anymore.

This is a non-purple'd build, tho its quite expensive but I have resources.

Yeah, tho I'm not looking for a solo build or something but more for the max dps possible.

Edit: btw how the heck are these Enzyme Exposure working?

What exactly are your goals for this build? Slotting for defense and having a lot of DPS isn't exclusive, you can buy your cake and eat it too. My build is more than capable of producing (relatively) prodigious amounts of damage per second and is more than capable of tanking for most teams.

I'm trying to achieve the best DPS build possible without having to rely on purples for the moment so I guess that means focusing on global recharge and enough +rec to handle the charge.

I think maybe the best is if you could "explain" your build (sorry I'm asking much).

Asking is good! Asking questions means you learn, and that is always good, never be afraid to ask questions lol. Are you saying that you don't want to rely on purple inspirations or purple(superior) enhancements?

My build is expensive, I will not lie lol. My build has soft capped defenses using only set bonuses while focusing on recharge, and recovery. In its current incarnation it is capable of soloing just about every Arch Villain out there as well as soloing a rikti pylon in around 5 mins.

I was talking about purple enhencement sets.

I'm looking for a pure DPS build, I'm 99% of the time teamed with 2 irl friends. We'v been playing Invul brute/FireKin Corr/Fire Brute (I was the brute) for a while now and GR was an occasion to sart fresh.

We'r now WP Tanker/EarthKin Troller/Scrapper, so DM/SD scrapper. I tried a lot of characters but I think this one sounds right. Tho, I dont really need much survivavbility since my tanker takes most the hits but I need to survive melee (and survive AAO thats it). So yeah, I need basicly a DPS more than solo build.

About your build (builds?) I dont get why you go take those Hamidons in Deflection and Active Defense, mostly in active Defense I must say.

Posted

Because that's the only way to slot Active Defense for defense. Defense enhancements also increase defense debuff resistance. It's probably a bug. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the DDR in Active Defense were to be flagged as unenhanceable.

Note that AAO is a very strong taunt aura, while RttC is a weak one. You might be pulling aggro off your tank more often than you'd like. Although Phalanx Fighting will be helping you out there, and if your controller takes Maneuvers that will help even more.

I dont understand how Phalanx fighting works or how much +def it is worth. Neither actually how Grand Cover works actually :x

(Oh btw somehow all the enhencement are lvl 30 on your build)

Posted

Phalanx Fighting grants you 3.75% defense to all positions and a subsiquent amount of defense with up to 3 allies in melee range. Grant Cover gives your allies defense up to a certain range while also granting you defense debuff resistance(DDR). You'll want as much DDR for your build as possible. The cap is 95% percent.

Yes I always put all enhancements at L30 because the difference between L50 enhancements and L30 isn't all that much offering you soft capped defenses, most or all of your recharge bonuses to L27.

Then why post it if it is no longer pertinent, especially with the moniker "Take this build and no other...."?

@ OP: You state that you're looking for pure DPS. This includes Fireball by your first posted build, but other builds don't have it. Is Fireball something you want in the build? Also, since you have a /Kin in your party, do you need a travel power? Eliminating a travel power frees up a build quite a bit, and with Ninja Run available, it has become a fairly common practice even without a /Kin to speed you up. Finally, I know you said no purple enhancements, but would you be willing to do a set of Absolute Amazement in Boxing since it's a fairly inexpensive purple set?

Once I get this info, I'll put a build together for you.

Things that are jumping right out at me:
  • Can't run the top attack chain gapless (particularly relevant since OP asked for DPS)
  • AoE isn't soft-capped
  • Steadfast Protection knockback IO when you're already immune to knockback (and if it's for the 0.03 EPS recovery, you can do much better elsewhere)
  • Cytoskeletons should be Enzymes
  • Microfilament in Super Speed? You're over the cap for speed, and you don't need endurance reduction in a travel power.
  • Endurance won't be sustainable (probably good enough for normal play)
  • Two full set mules? That's not strictly a failure, but I'd rather my powers and slots be doing something for me other than bonuses.
  • Not particularly good defense debuff resistance, which is one of the perks of Shield Defense

I'm sure there's more, but hopefully the point is made. It's not a BAD build overall, but it's far from "take this build and no other".

I'v been toying a lot around Santo's build and mine to try to compromise, without great success I must admit
So much to do for work lately...

Fireball was in my build indeed, I dont know if its "something that I want" but I'm afraid the complete lack of AoE might be an issue on the long run (yes my partnerts can decently melt down minions but this is still CoH, AoE means a lot). In the team we had before I was playing an Elec/Fire Brute so I'm kina going the complete opposite way

As for travel powers I do have a Kin most of the time and even without ninja running I could live with the 10k inf jet packs (heck I'm superspeeder anyways, I use the jetpack a lot). Of course its always an ease to have travel power.

For the build itselft, I was wondering if sacrifying Fireball for basicly more +def carriers was worth it compared to just pick Shadowmelt and drop its cooldown to about 30 sec.

(Edit: as for resources I have about 17 characters who can decently run Super Merits missions, so thats about 17 LotG every four days... tho, I dont have infinite time and I hardly do it with 3 toons. So yeah I can affort 30ish Million enhencements but real purps goes for about ten times this price).

I came up with that, I'm not quite sure, also note that I'm not puting any Hami in my builds because I have no clue how they work.

This is a horrible way of doing it. Head over the marketing forum and cut that time significantly and make most of your inf offline.

Yeah, I noticed that. Here's the DDR of the builds posted so far:

Nightchill = 58% for 47 seconds, 41% for 13 seconds = 54% average
Santorican (common IOs changed to level 50) = 94% for 48 seconds, 66% for 12 seconds = 88% average
SOMEonE Nice #1 = 69% for 41 seconds, 45% for 19 seconds = 61% average
SOMEonE Nice #2 (the build posted with the comment) = 66% for 30 seconds, 45% for 30 seconds = 56% average

So HOPEFULLY the "one -Def debuff on you and your (sic) dead" comment was in regards to Nightchill's build and not yours. But even then, while I agree that the DDR in Nightchill's build is subpar (54%), the build SOMEonE Nice posted with the comment was only 2% better (56%). The other build SOMEonE Nice posted is a little better still at 61%, but that's still subpar. Only Santorican's build started handling DDR properly at 88%. It can go all the way to the cap, but 88% is probably enough in practice.

I can't tell if we're being messed with or if SOMEonE Nice is simply confused about how much he or she "knows" about how all this works, and as a result thinks the REST of us are confused about how all this works, and thus the fairly derisive yet inaccurate comments. There are probably other possibilities as well. Those are the two that I'd bet on. It'd be amusing if I weren't worried about other people being misled and spending gobs of influence on subpar builds.

And I apologize, Nightchill, but I don't have a build of my own to offer as I haven't fiddled with DM/SD directly. I suspect the linked thread has some good ones, but I haven't checked them.
