Im just gonna say this about playing a brute....
Dont do it.
Dont create one...dont slot one...dont level one....dont make "Hulk Smash" type mutterings when doing your day job because that just makes people avoid you (a different problem I know, but Im dispensing advice)
Playing a Brute is addictive. Its not a gateway drug, its the full blown give me a needle and some surgical tubing type. Youll probably get through the tutorial without feeling it..."Oh this is sorta fun" you'll think....
Then it will happen...at some point the right combination of inspirations and stupid teammates dragging too much back will make you do one of those last stand type moments. Youll have orange and blue shield icons underneath your suddenly long fury bar. Minions will rush at you, only to be destroyed by a single click of your level 1 attack. Lts wont last much longer, until its you and a boss...your shield icons long since a memory, the last blue insp just got sacrificied on the altar of SMASH. Your health bar blinking red, no chance....then blammo...your big attack hits with the force of a freight train. As the bodies around you disappear, your teammates will start rezzing. Someone will say "I cant believe you survived that"....youll smile...then notice that fury bar is growing smaller....panic will set in, but youll dismiss it. The next fight will be boring, then youll try to garner more aggro to build more fury. "Oh I didnt see that other group" youll say...but we'll know...we'll always know.
Dont play a brute. -
I find fury to be addictive...too much so at times. I fill my insp tray with blues in the early levels so I can keep swinging...I get three reds, I combine em for a blue...I slot for end reduction.....I have only recently started toggling sprint on and off for getting to the next mob faster. Teammates that know me call rests for after the next mob. They know Im already at the next one. Like a heroin junky Im constantly chasing a full fury bar.
I annoy my teammates...I begrudge each and every rest [whine] "But my fury bar is getting lower...." [/whine]...
I play scrappers and I turn into Bobby McFerrin back there (well Bobby McFerrin with fiery fists of impending doom). "Whenever you guys are ready...take yer time...chat about what yer eating, its okay...Ill still be here". The attitude change is horrendous. I want to punch myself in the face and hope that helps generate fury.
I feel better
P.S. Punching yerself in the face does nothing for your fury bar -
Quote:It isn't a bad build at all, I'd probably take the Ragnarok: Chance for Knockdown and slot it in Active Defense. Also six slotting stamina isn't bad
Youd take Ragnarok and put it in Active Defense? Your powers do something mine dont?
I was only pointing out the stamina 6-slot as part of the philosophical difference I would have for that. With ED being what it is youre just wasting %s to get set bonuses. Why not look further afield and get set bonuses and % enhancements at the same time...but I hate it when people post builds and people tear em apart, change 3/4s of the power selections, dont explain why, and expect someone to follow blindly....thats all. -
Quote:Just a reminder: do not put the FF proc in Shield Charge or Lightning Rod. The pseudopet gets the recharge, not you. Putting it in thunderstrike is perfectly fine.
Thanks for the info...I didnt realize that. I have mine slotted in Thunderstrike for almost coincidental reasons.
To the OP....I sent my build via PM for your perusal. Its not the be all and end all but it does +2/X8 without the slightest hiccup so Im happy... -
Elec/Shield Brute or Scrapper....with enough IOs to softcap defense....
My level 50 Brute runs through +2/X8 (no bosses) with relative ease. I run through 2 mobs at a time and get 17 to run to a corner with then Lightning Rod and Shield Charge em then step back around the corner cause 17 more are coming. If I was farming for purples Id run +0/X8 and maybe turn bosses back on for fun, but I just like to bash stuff regardless.
I have level 44 scrapper Im working on but that one doesnt get much play time because it feels too much like the brute. -
Well let me chime in with my desire to join this movement. While there is no way Id be able to commit consistent time, if there were a SG or VG to join where Id lock my characters level for providing a steady influx of IOs to the market Id support that in an ad hoc style. Otherwise consider me an ardent fan boy....like Syndrome from the Incredibles....

Quote:For what its worth...a full set of level 40 ToDs vs a level 38 set givesBut yes, when am level 35 and see a level 38 Touch of Death and a level 40, I will buy the level 40 and wait till I level twice to slot it, because its simply not worth buying the 38 for just two levels, now that they fly by so fast imo. Sure, maybe 38 is special for those who know they often exemplar to 35 and have everything else on 38 too so they'll keep their set bonus then. But usually people'd either prefer to be coolest at 50 or will want it at minimum level then, not 38-some. And many might also not know or not notice their bonuses being removed, among all the other gimping when exing down. *shrugs*
.9% more accuracy
.3% more damage
1.3% more end reduction
.9% more recharge
Is that even noticable...when you factor in how much cheaper the level 38 is going to be I dont see it as a contest. I know the stock response is going to be "but Ill know, and therefore will covet the better set." I wish there was some way to do a blind taste like they do with pepsi or coke...or that "We secretly switched the coffee in this gourmet restraunt with new Folgers crystals" thing they used to do... -
Its been said in this thread before....
But my villains ( and I have more than a few) will nearly all make the trek over to be a vigilante at the least. I will not be in a hurry but it will eventually happen. The reason is simple....the market. The red side market is a blasted landscape of a wasteland with the only oasis residing at level 50 IOs. I prefer the gameplay style redside infinitely more than blueside (steamrolling being the norm....missions in same zone....story arcs easier to get to and missions in the same order) but IOing out a toon before 50 is so much more fun than solo playing to 50 that Ill make the change.
A couple of my villains will stay redside because thats where theyre meant to be. But also because for all intents and purposes theyre done with their builds and have been for some time. -
For the record...and Im only speaking for myself....it annoys me when people post a "make me a build" post instead of using search and finding the 4 or 5 other threads in the last two days out there where that specific build is discussed.....
So anyhow...not wanting to tear apart your build too much....so Im only going to make cosmetic changes instead of wholesale ones...I would never six slot stamina for instance. No matter what the bonuses are.
Active Defense: I should think you would want a MembraneExposure HO in there. Recharge/Def not a cyto.
Health/True Grit: Its always been my experience you get more regen by slotting Numina Regen/Recov, Numina Heal, level 50 Heal IO. Even with the bonus HPs you get more regen per second slotting the common IO. So one of em I would do that....
Also I absolutely love the 5 set of Scirocco +1 Force Feedback +Rech combo in one of the three knockdown powers....so Id pull the Oblit set out of thunderstrike and put in that...but then that puts you way over the AOE def cap and below the melee...so out goes the Mako set in Havoc Punch and in goes a Touch of Death....and out goes the third slot in Superspeed (bye bye expensive Zephyr -kb) to make six slots in Mu Lightning for an inexpensive thunderstrike set.
There are larger changes I would make but those are philosophical choices....

Look at the bright side....it kept you from impulse buying and made you immune to individual level aberrations. Information is a good thing...too much information makes me sweaty but thats another thing altogether.
-
If the question is which toon to make your primary tf runner....as someone that frequently puts TFs together, I would pick your Bane most times over Brute. Im not knocking Brutes as I have more than my share but the Brute is most useful if you dont have another tank and or brute soaking up the aggro....a Bane is useful all the time, in fact if you have another SOA that makes them more useful. Im just saying...pick the Bane for TFs, use the Brute to mass farm content solo.
-
My rule of thumb is if Im in the 10-14 level range, I roll bronze there. The kb protection and others that are high value command a higher price the lower level they are. So after 15 I start looking other places. On my level 50s I frequently roll bronze 35-39 and have been doing remarkably well. If I can craft one of those and make more than a million or two in profit I do so, but only on alts I play every couple of days. Otherwise I save for a gold.
To be honest I dont play MA much except on my 50s. But I do think Ill make a new alt and only level there and see how much moola I make. -
Quote:I ran through the entirety of the RWZ on my Brute, on Malicious, and only got about 200-300 merits total. Also, not all of us have farm-capable builds, nor do I want to resort to farming just to unlock some costume pieces.
Really? running an arc twice is farming? I was just giving options....the obvious answer is mothership raids. As the third and fourth arcs in the RWZ are mostly Vanguard and Nemisis thats not really gonna help the accumulation of merits. The OP said Fire/WP scrapper....that sounds pretty farm capable to me.
Regardless....ship raid....kill rikti in large numbers otherwise, however you choose to do it...its really not that onerous at X8. Two or three good nights and youll be fine...or a week at an hour a night... -
Ive cranked my brute up to +2/X8 for two runs of the intro arc and got enough for the salvage satchel thingy....I wasnt clearing missions either....so yeah crank up the difficulty and go to town...
-
Wow...just wow...I am completely blown away by how much people can make this clunky base editor thing do.
Hats off to Turbo...positive rep incoming....
I guess my next question is how much prestige did it cost to do something of this scale....?
And how much inf would I need to put out there to convince someone to come to my VG and do something similar? -
Well Im no expert but things looks good....
I have a problem with a couple of things...
Youre overslotted on defenses....45% is the soft cap....everything over that is nice but not neccessary
I would put a 5 set Sciroccos and the force feedback proc in one of your aoes for the recharge....
If you can afford it more LotGs +7.5% please....
Move the Steadfast +Def to Deflection where it does more good and is available earlier in case you malefactor....
While we;re on the subject, why is Eradication in Shield Charge and not one of your earlier sets that has Oblit in it...malefactor considerations again....maybe swap that set lower and one of the Oblits higher...
I wont even get into explaining why people only slot 2 or 3 of a given set...look at Luck of the Gambler....the first 3 bonuses are great, the last two...not so much....
I would slot differently in a lot of places with your brute but I think thats mostly taste at this point... -
Quote:Pay attention.
Individual villains might be able to buy anything on the market, but overall, the supply of things redside is lower. That means inf transferred from blueside to redside is going to be less than inf transferrred from redside to blueside.
There simply are fewer villains than there are heroes. THis is a fact. In the aggregate, villains generate much less inf than heroes, just from the sheer weight of number. They generate fewer recipies, and less salvage.
While, yes, inf under a merged market would flow freely between the sides, the fact is, prices for everything would rise. And with fewer villains playing, that means individuals redside would have a harder time paying for things from the merged market.
Also, in a merged market situation, the flow of influence to infamy would quickly stabilize, leaving villains overall in a poorer position.
Teams are generally the best/fastest way of generating influence and infamy. Have you tried to form teams redside? Let me tell you, most of the time, you cannot get a large team together, redside, unless there is an event of some kind running. Blueside, on the other hand, it is easy to get into a team.
The developers have kept the markets separate, and it's a good thing they have. It keeps local market conditions local and doesn't force people to pay blueside prices, redside.
I agree with everything you said, really I do, except the conclusion. The flow of inf would stabilize. Villians, due to a lack of teaming would generate less inf as an aggregate....still in agreement. Heck the lion share of merits and pool c/d drops would come from blue side.
The part where we diverge is youre talking about generating inf and Im really talking about accumulating inf. Assuming all villains solo and all heroes team the villains are going to be getting the bulk of the drops and the heroes the bulk of the inf. That would seem to be a perfect match. I know the truth is somewhere in between but I dont think teaming has as big an impact as you might think on the accumulation of inf. And looking back at your post the only difference you point to is the ability to find a team
Villains as a whole generate less of everything....individually I dont agree.
At this point...and before anyone gets a bonnet with a bee in it or somesuch, Im going to offer to agree to disagree....
Merge Markets please -
Quote:Seriously? You do realize the market is a place to sell as well right? I mean sure...Capt Dogooder can pay twice as much as Commandant Evildoer can, but he does that a couple of times and suddenly the Commandant has a big pile of inf. Its a zero sum (minus 10%) game on the market. Mobs give the same amount of inf, and the same amount of drops on both sides....I once read an analysis of the CoH/CoV markets by an economics student (do we have any of those around here, currently?) and I try to find it every time this question crops up, and I never can, but the result is as follows:
Because the activity that creates money (inf) is also the activity that creates goods (drops), and because of established economic trends, merging the CoH and CoV markets will drive all prices up.
Essentially: Price(Hero) < Price(Hero + Villain) AND Price(Villain) < Price(Hero + Villain)
Since fewer people play Villains, the amount of Inf they can generate is less than the amount of Inf that Heroes generate, the supply will tend to go to heroes (because they can afford to overspend), eventually pricing Villains out of the market.
If yer talking about Heroes as a whole generate more inf, then I agree. But unless all the Heroes pool their resources to buy all the items then Villains will be fine.
Merge markets please -
Girlfriend hit level 50 yesterday, what should we do?
Have sex.... -
Quote:Not trying to split hair but the Oblits have two recipes in them that get pretty pricey as well. I think Ive just learned that my idea of a budget is not everyone elses.Lol that's a nice improvement, thanks. But I did state I'm on a budget and you've gone ahead and thrown 2 BotZ:KB's in there, which are going to cost me about 70 mill each.
I tend to prefer teaming, and therefore phalanx will help me hit softcap, so I see no problem there. I might need to squeeze some more recovery out of my build though, I'll see what I can do. -
Once again....I like Grant Cover because its provides some of your defense debuff resistance. A lot of the higher level mobs use -def and a hit or two results in cascade failure where your defense ends up in the negatives. I can see how if you skip Grant Cover you would want tough....I just dont like wasting a power choice on boxing when I can softcap going another route and provide a small team buff. For the record, that level 50 brute runs on +2/X8 (no bosses) and clears missions mindnumbingly quickly. I do tend to stick to mob types I can handle easily and the occassional SF.
Just so you know, the problem with shields is that its completely awesome with set IOs. Tremendously so....but its subpar with most anything else. If you really are on a limited budget I would create a Willpower brute and use him to get to 50 because that one looks really good with just common IOs. Then farm with that one to get a couple hundred million to put together a shield brute on the way up. A search for /WP should provide what you need...
For the record I have a VG I share with one other person. As one of my characters hits 50, I start planning the next build while the current 50 is still fun to play and start stashing away IOs for approximately level 35 on the new one. Then I level the new one and use the IOs I stored earlier. Money isnt an issue any more, time and market slots are.
Hope that helps....
Edit: I buy Zephyrs and other IOs by putting out a level spread of bids....usually around 5 near the level I want them....then if more than one hit I either store the extra or craft and sell at a profit. I can usually double my money doing that. -
Well youre gonna want to put Grant Cover in...its part of your defense debuff resistance
but barring that....if you dont want to shell out big bucks for the Numinas unique, you might as well pair down health and True Grit to two health IOs each. Id take those two slots and put in the third Blessing of the Zephyr in both CJ and Superjump (expensive) and remove the Multistrike set in Thunderstrike for 5 Sciroccos and a Force Feedback +Rech....then make Shield Charge and Lightning Rod both a full set of Oblits....that should come close to capping you to everything...

With shields you want to focus on soft capping the defenses to 45% then recharge I should think to take advantage of shield charge and Lightning Rod....
Its expensive though...try something like this.
