Girlfriend hit level 50 yesterday, what should we do?

My girlfriend and I got our MM/Stalker duo to 50(I will never play a zombie MM ever again). She wants to make a Soldier and I have never really gotten into the VEATs so I'm curious(I played. What would go best with her? Would a Soldier/Widow be a solid duo?

Also, any budget build recommendations?

To answer your direct question, yes, a Soldier and a Widow would make a good duo. Considering your previous combo I'd recommend a Night Widow or Bane Spider for her and a Crab Spider for you.

Both Night Widows and Banes get the equivalent of Hide from Mask Presence and Cloaking Device respectively. Both branches can crit from Hidden status but only Banes get the equivalent of an Assassin's Strike. They can perform an "Executioner's Strike" by using Shatter while hidden. Night Widow's are more like stealthy Scrappers because their stealth value isn't as high so they'll be spotted up close without some other form of stealth. But they provide better sustained DPS while Banes do great burst damage.

Since you've got MM experience a Crab would suit you well if you build it to suit that style. Grab Call Reinforcements from Wolf Spider Training & Gadgets, Summon Spiderlings from Crab Training and Summon Blaster from Black Scorpion's PPP. Boom! You've got six uncontrolled yet hardy pets that'll do solid damage and take some aggro while you decimate everything with your AoEs.

I'd say a NW/Crab duo would be best because your girlfriend can focus on hard targets while you decimate everything else around her. I'm just getting my girlfriend into the game so I'm glad to here of another couple playing together. Best of luck

You can't really go wrong with two of any sort of VEAT, just don't skip Manuvers and you will be fine. Try whatever takes your fancy

I duoed a Crab Spider with a friend who had a Crab Spider too. Really fun.

I'd imagine any combo of VEAT might be fun. Remember you have dual builds so whoever is Night Widow can give Fortunata a try (mix of controller, blaster with defence-based toggles and powers), and remember that Crab Spiders who switch over to Bane build will still have Crab legs. One alternative to Crab is the Wolfspider build (technically Bane Spider, but more focus on gun).

Gonna throw my opinion out there and agree that any 2 VEATs will go well together. Hell, any 8 VEATs will go well together. VEATs are like defenders in that the more you have of them, the better all of them are.

Also Crabberminds = WIN!

VEATs go well with VEATs. They have mutually beneficial buffs and debuffs. Some combos may be better than others, but any VEAT will always act as a force multiplier for another.

I'd say that any two VEAT combos would be just fine, but they're a rough ride until you get their specialization compared to some other character builds. The following descriptions aver very bare-bones and may be ridiculed at your liesure:

Crabs offer good resistance and great AoE damage, along with a large number of pets.

Bane Spiders are scrappy stealth melee characters who use mace attacks with added toxic damage, along with powers like Surveillance to weaken enemies.

Night Widows have solid defense, stealth, claws attacks with added toxic damage, and a couple of ranged psychic attacks.

Fortunatas have ranged psychic attacks, stealth, solid defense, and good control.
