Quote:Star Wars Galaxies was $50. per character, and that was after they told their customers they had to move their characters because they were shutting down a bunch of their servers. So $10 bucks is hardly outrageous. It's like deja vu... from yesterday
No. There isn't.
As for the "outrageous" cost, it's $10. As opposed to, say, WoW's $25.
If some people missed out on the free transfers because they waited too long to come back then they are out of luck. That's the price we all pay when we decide to wait.
The players that bought the GR pre-purchase didn't get the free 30 days or the Item Pack.
The players that didn't buy the GR pre-order from Gamestop didn't get the 5 enahncement perks.
And the players who didn't have their accounts active during Jan 2010, and the first week GR went live all missed out on the free transfers. -

Quote:The ad hoc style of moderation and rule enforcement 'round these parts' nowadays is almost laughable at this point. Almost.
To wit; The recent surge of DCUO related threads that have managed to escape the inane "No game other than this one even exists" rule simply because it's mostly trashing it...
And you don't think the fact that the Mod who wrote the "no game other than this one" rule is no longer working here has anything to do with it not being enforced as rigidly as it once was. -
2 accounts, 80+ characters after reducung my stable just before GR went live. The number of characters was steadily rising until December when my graphics card died and forced a(n)? hiatus until I can replace my old system.

Quote:No offense intended but please pay attention to what we have been talking about. The names that would need to be changed if the server lists are combined are not the character names.Wasn't the OP suggesting not necessarily a merge but the opening up of all servers to all players?
This wouldn't cause there to be a need to have some players give up/change their names as they would already have them on the servers that they play on.... just like someone switching main serves from Victory to Virtue for example.
We are talking about the account GLOBAL names. The ones that appear on Friends lists and are used to send Emails.
@superdude
@Pyro679
There are many players who share the same GLOBAL names because the NA and EU servers are completely seperate from each other. So if/when the server lists get merged half of those people will have to get a new GLOBAL name for their accounts. -
Quote:so..having become bored of wow yet again..im looking into draging my bf back to CoH/CoV and just wondering how is the pop on most servers? is it fairly easy to find groups at low levels or easy to find an SG?
any help appreciated!@ thanks
As always it depends on the server you choose. Freedom and Virtue are the most heavily populated, but if you join a couple decent global channels you should have no problems finding people.
Try checking out the Mentors Project. I don't have a link for you but I'm sure one of the many members that frequent the forums will gladly post the link in this thread as soon as they see it.
If you aren't aware of it, there's been some new stuff added that requires the purchase of Going Rogue to play.
Welcome back and I hope you enjoy your stay. -
Quote:Oh yeah, I like the filters thing. That would be a great tool to help people find exactly what they're looking for.I'd see Prestige Earned as just another filter and have to agree, that as far as ranking goes, it's pretty meaningless. I'm sure that there are plenty of people out there that don't even know about the SG search function.
Not saying that it shouldn't be listed, but I don't think that an off-site SG roster should list them according to their Prestige, I'd prefer Forbin's suggestion of Server specific and alphabetically, with filters for RP, PvP, Farming, Theme, etc. -
Quote:How about simply listing them alphabetically, by server, and faction. That seems to be the fairest way to me.That would be fine, but how can you tell the PvP Groups from the Farmer groups? And why even worry about things like that. Each group does their own thing, no need to filter them out. Just because one group converts thier earnings to prestige doesn't mean they cheated or gamed the system, everyone has the option to do that. So it doesn't make one group better than the other when it comes to purchasing prestige.
But adding the ability to allow us to create a SG and give the option to use check marks to determine if we are a pvp group or rp, or if we've purchased infuence would be nice, but what about groups who converted to prestige, how to you determine which group is invalid compared to the next?
I personally wouldn't exclude anyone to be honest, but your filter idea sounds like a plan. -
Ranked? By what?
Prestige is meaningless since it can be padded with inf conversions.
Base Raiding has been turned off so there's no PvP ranking.
Membership is also meaningless since players can pad their rosters with fillers.
And doesn't Guild Portal already offer free sites for SG's?
Sure it would be nice if there was such a feature connected to the forums/CoH website.
Heck it's be cool if they listed our global names and then from listed what characters (with their avatars) we had on which server and their bios if any. -
I'm willing to suspend belief as far as the mask preventing recognition because it's a better disguise than the stupid pair of glasses Clark Kent wore.

A good episode with a nice cliffhanger to be finished off next week. The plot was predictable but except for the family angst scenes I enjoyed it.
Soon as I saw the Lich use the "dust" the Scarecrow from Batman came to mind and I realized he was going to spray people with his zombie juice. Then when I heard the Founders parade mentioned I figured the Lich was going to hijack a float and spray people like the Joker did in that other Batman movie. And who didn't anticipate that the Lich's secret identity was exactly who it turned out to be.
While this predictability is okay for now, it will hurt the show in the long run. The writers need to develop some longer running plots that aren't so blatantly obvious if they want to keep the audience interested. -
Quote:That's about as accurate as blaming the drop in Subs on when the devs increased the number of characters we have per server from 12 to 36. Since players could now fit more characters onto one account they let their other accounts lapse and the game is doomed because of it.Hmmm . . . why the drop after Q209? Mission Architect was released early April 2009 so I would expect an increase, not a decline. Oh! I remember, Positron had his hissy fit regarding AE exploits. They disciplined a number of players and instituted a forum blackout. I cancelled my second account over that for awhile, but eventually resubbed. I guess other people left and never came back.
-
But your not going to be able to drop all your influence, enhancements, etc, etc in a global bank. The storage they'd allow us would be extremely limited just like all the other items they let us use for storage.

I think it was The Ocho that once said a good rule of thumb was anything over 3 months start a new thread.
-
On one hand I'm glad to see that someone is actually SEARCHING before posting, but it's highly unlikely they couldn't find a more recent thread than one made 3, 6, 9 months ago and theres no excuse for necroing 2 year old threads.

Quote:With the access we have to multiple accounts it would be very easy for someone that got control of an SG to invite an alt on a second, third, or fourth account then promote that alt to Super Leader. Kick everyone to steal the SG and change the name so it won't be recognised and then feign shock and outrage over getting kicked on his main account. My reaction would be "Hey, @othersgguyIplayedwith, what happened to the SG while I was gone?" I mean, I'd have to remember SOMEONE who was in the SG.
CS won't get involved because the Super Leader owns the SG's lock stock and barrel and can do as they please with them.
Another valid concern I could see happening.Quote:My issue, as always, is with someone changing the SG name without saying anything to the group they lead (since this would end up as a "red star" decision.) I mean, do you check your SG name every time you log in? Plus, I'd *suspect* there'd be some sort of cooldown - 15 to 30 days between renames, for example - so it couldn't be changed back on a whim.
Essentially, leader has an issue, renames the SG to "worthless players" (for something censor friendly,) cleans out the base and leaves (or leaves the lead character in to 'lock' the name.) The rest of the SG gets stuck with that *or* has to start over in the middle of everything *else,* and the CS attitude - the reason they came up with that red star "superleader" bit in the first place - would end up being "They had the star, they had the right."
In the last dead SG I inherited I waited almost 2 years before I touched the base salvage that was still in storage (Base salvage not Invention salvage) in case someone returned and only this past December cleared the roster of members that hadn't logged in over 700 days.Quote:Now, none of the groups I'm in would have that issue, so this isn't a personal "I wouldn't trust so-and-so in our group not to do that." And I can think of a group I wouldn't mind tweaking the name on. But I could see that being an issue. -
Quote:Yeah. You really have to consider the length of time people will have to wait when suggesting vet rewards. While I'd be right there to get it on day one, others would not; and there are a lot of folks that would have to wait years to even begin approaching it.
The purchase option is better all around for everyone.
Now... if the Veteran Reward would be in addition to the character slots you could purchase... great! I'll take it! Hell, I already have several character slots I can redeem from previous Veteran Rewards, but can't really because I'm already at 36 character slots.

Quote:Have you forgotten (or just missed) the times the global system has gotten hosed? It's actually been - I'd guess at least two years since the last time, but logging in and suddenly seeing "unknown" globals is irritating - but that's exactly how it happens. First character that logs in from the account becomes the global. Fortunately they've been reset (or rather the global name tokens have been) so people could get their old one back if they wanted.
I've had my global lists vanish a few times but I don't recall seeing a bunch of "unknown" globals. -
Quote:"Clutter up the server?" Really? Somehow I don't think a new SG is going to be all that much "clutter." Hard drive space is dead cheap, even at enterprise/server levels with higher reliability, data redundancy, error checking and the like entered into the price.
Make all the other arguments you want - I'm not against the idea, though they'd have to keep it at 150 *globals* to be sure nobody gets accidentally kicked by a lower limit - but hard drive space is really a non-starter of an argument.
It would be nice if they could check the list of SG's and free up the SG names that are no longer being used.
Yes I know that the names of SG's that have no members are automatically freed up. I'm talking about the ones whose entire roster has inactive members -
The big secret is called shopping. Boxed copies of the game have been turning up in retailers bargain bins for years.

Quote:I think his perception is colored by bitterness over what happened with the previous account he was using.Whenever I see someone stating certainties about possible future events, I wonder what their agenda is. When they then preemptively dismiss anyone who disagrees with them as fanboys, their comments become even more suspect.
Quote:(I'm formerly InvisoBill due to account problems. Apparently you can't use your sister's account after three years of playing when they come to find out...)
All that time and effort gone, it's understandable that he'd be upset. I only hope he isn't account hopping to get around a ban. -
Quote:Well the first time they ran the program they told us most of the names that were freed up were under level 6. Of course back then it was a lot harder to get to 50 so it's likely there are a lot more names that could be freed up all the way up to level 50.Yes, that's how it works. Any account that doesn't have a global name has not been used since before they added in global names. After the 6 or so years since they added globals, it's a safe bet that player is not coming back. They really should free up any name that is held by an account without a global. Not just the ones under 35.
That being said, there will still be people whining that the good names are tied up on inactive accounts because they don't want to believe the names they want are being used on active accounts. -
Quote:So then how does it work? The first character they log in on becomes the account global name? When they added in global names, the name of the first toon you logged in to became your global name. Any account that doesn't have a global name is one that hasn't been played since before they added in global names and channels (have not logged in a toon so no name has been given.) If I remember right, it was something that was added around the time CoV came out so people could stay in contact with their friends no matter what side they were on.
